Problems with 2.1 iphone install.

Hi. I have just downloaded 8.0 itunes to my computer and have attempted to download 2.1 to iphone. Unfortunately, now I have an error message telling me to restore iphone to original factory settings. I don't want to lose my SMS history and messages etc, but the phone seems to be frozen. Are there any alternatives to wiping out all of my settings and data? Please help.

Hi all, I'm new iphone (3G) user. Since the latest iphone 2.1 update came out, I've not been able to update my iphone. For some reason, itunes 8 consistently faced a network time out (error message: -3259) even when I had downloaded almost 90 percent of the huge file. Anyone knows what is wrong there? I don't have any network interruption, as I could continue to download huge files via Safari (like the leopard 10.5.5 update). Please help...

When you installed the new 3.1.3 firmware you locked the phone back with att. Previously being jailbroken and unlocked allows you to use other sim cards but now that you updated the firmware its not possible. What you can do is wait for someone to come out with a way to jailbreak the new firmware and unlock it yourself.

Of course other people have had problems. However, just knowing that other people have had some vague, undefined "network problems" most likely isn't going to be very useful. You'll get more and better help if you can give some details about your specific problem. Include who your carrier is, what country you're in. Then describe the exact nature of the problem. Then, maybe someone will be able to give good suggestions.
And, by the way, the free bumper program ended some time ago. It also was only a "solution" for one of many possible problems.

Error 23, 28, 29: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with the white USB Dock Connector cable that shipped with your device, on a known good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value, (00 499901 064000 0), can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software can also cause these errors.

With the word 'automatically', yes you do need pulseaudio. I'm sure you could cook up some udev or related rule to do that in Alsa, but pulseaudio would be easier.

simply try doing a back up and restore
when going thru the activation screen, select SET UP AS NEW and then test your device. if it is not shutting down then it could be 1 or more apps tht have been downloaded wch could be affecting the device
you will then need to follow the process of eleimnation, meaning add 2 apps and then monitor your phone, if nothing happes then add another couple of them and then check

Take it back to the Apple store. You can't activate it without the correct ID and password. This can't be disabled. Either get a replacement or get your money back.
