Problems with 4th Gen Nano

I got a yellow iPod nano late August from my aunt as a going away present for college. Since then, my iPod needs to constantly restart. If I unplug it from the macbook, I need to restart it in order for it to work normally. Then, when I turn it off to reserve power and turn it back on later, it either restarts completely instead of being on the music screen. Sometimes, It won't turn on AT ALL, despite the fact that I have full battery!
I had a first and second generation iPod nano and when I turned them off and turned them back on, it wouldn't have a problem at all. Is my current iPod a dud?
Thanks!
Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6)

Update: I just put it into Disk Mode, and then it finally showed up in both iTunes and Finder. When I then tried to restore it, error message 1429 popped up. (The iPod then disappeared from both iTunes and Finder.) Following Apple's resolution, I'm supposed to eject it from iTunes, but how am I supposed to do that when it's not showing? The screen says "Do not disconnect."

  • Docking systems compatible with 4th Gen Nano?

Can anyone give me a list of current docking stations on the market that are compatible with the new 4th generation Nano chrome? I'm looking to get one for my daughter who got one for Christmas. And, as many of you have mentioned, I was unpleasantly surprised to see that it is incompatible with my existing docking systems!
    Thanks.

  • Problem with 6th Gen Nano - itunes install stops

I had an upgrade message a few months ago and after that my PC  itunes prog would not see the nano and the message was that it could not be accessed and that i should reinstall itunes. I did all this and then it would not see the nano and i got a long message .... Microsoft VC80.CRT. type ="Win32".version = "8.0.50727.4053".publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b" processorArchitecture="amd64",HRESULT - 0x800736FD..... I called apple support and after reinstalling all componments they agreed to replace the nano. The replacement worked straight away. After a few weeks i had another upgrade on the software and the same problem occured so i called supplort and they again replaced the nano. This time when it arrived it came up with the same error message above. They changed it again and again it is not working.  Has anyone else had this problem? How did you resolve it? Is it a software issue or a hardware issue? I am about to wipe my drive and reinstall windows 7 home edition, but do not want to do this is is this is some other issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Problems with 4th gen 20gig iPod

A few days ago my iPod began to act strangely: it started to freeze more than usual, and the device sometimes made strange noises when I tried to play songs. When it froze I would just press menu + select and it would reset, and so I did that tonight, but it froze soon after and started emitting a louder, stranger noise. It was as if the iPod was crying or whining (and I apologize for the lack of a more descriptive simile) and clicking. Then it turned off and I couldn't turn it back on or reset it, but it was still making the noise. I tried plugging it in to the USB cable but nothing appeared on the screen. It continued to make the sound for a while and then it stopped.
A few minutes later I plugged it into the USB cable again and this time the apple logo appeared on the screen, so I tried to turn it on. I then got a picture of an iPod with a x_x face and a ! sign and the URL to Apple's tech support below. The screen shows that it's now charging its battery (although it's strange because it has been charging for over an hour now and the on-screen image of the battery has not filled up, unless this is normal because I have never watched my iPod charge before), and the Apple logo and image of the "dead" iPod and the URL reappear over time.
Anyway, I went to tech support and followed the instructions given for my problem, but they did not work: I cannot get into disk mode. Instead, the x_x face will appear when I try to put it into disk mode.
This iPod is old; I bought it used from a friend, but the only thing that was wrong with it was a screwed up screen. Other than that it had been working fine up until a few days ago. I have not dropped it or mishandled it or anything. Also, I don't think this thing still has a warranty on it, and my friend (from whom I bought the iPod) is unsure...
Any help with finding the proper support for this problem would be appreciated!

I just bought a used fourth generation iPod on ebay. It never synched right to iTunes; and when I tried to reset it, I got the sad computer face. I've tried all manner of resets, to no avail. Only the sad face returns, after a moment with the apple logo. The power is fully charged. At one point yesterday I did have empty menu topics, after an overnight synching, but no tunes ever were transferred. Now it's just dead in the water.
I'm contacting the seller but have had no response since yesterday. Seems I was sold a dud.
If I can fix the thing and avoid having to return it, all the better. Any suggestions?

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

  • What's wrong? Having problems with a 4th gen nano.

My 4th gen nano's clock is frozen and trying to change the time causes the screen to freeze. Resetting it brings it "back to normal", but the clock's still frozen. The lock hardly works, and the iPod starts playing music randomly. It is not recognized by iTunes or Finder; iTunes seems to eject it before recognizing it or saying it's plugged in. The following error message says that it should be ejected properly and that iTunes/Finder will try to restore it the next time it's connected.
None of the solutions in the Help Center fixed it and the screen's now frozen at "Connected."
Other than that, it's working perfectly fine...

  • 4th gen Nano - only 1 channel plays when docked with external speakers

    * bought 4th gen Nano direct from Apple
    * Boynq iCube - music only comes out of right channel (iPod Video works fine though)
    * Jensen JiMS-185 - music barely audible from left channel (iPod Video works fine on this as well)
    * Insten cradle / supplied iPod cable - both channels work fine
    * headphones work fine
Are there any known incompatibilities between 4th gen Nanos and some external speakers, or is does this sound more like a wonky refurb'd unit? Both problematic speaker systems were purchased new. If it was just one I'd think it was the speaker system. But given that similar issues are spanning 2 different speaker systems I'm not sure what the problem is now.

Sounds like you have an issue with the pins on the dock connector of your Nano. There is a left and right outputs on two of the pins on the dock connector. It could very well be that one pin is bent and on one radio no connection at all while on the other barely touch causing bad sound.
Alternatively it might be dirt, grime, oil, or other debris caught in the pins as well that simply need to be cleaned out.
Get a good magnifying glass, eye loupe, etc. and inspect the dock connector on the nano for debris and for damaged pins.

  • Can't import TV show from Itunes to 4th gen nano-running OSX 10.5 with Imac

This message has also been posted to the general use forum of the 4th gen nano forum.
Bought my daughter a 4th gen nano for Christmas. Also purchased a TV show from Itunes some time back.
This TV show has been in Itunes for months, and is on my 5th gen Ipod and plays fine, but will not import to the 4th gen nano.
Here is what I have done so far:
1.Plugged the nano into the computer, highlighted nano, clicked TV show tab, clicked the TV show we wanted to sync, then clicked the sync button.
2.I downloaded a sample movie into Itunes from the apple support site, and it won't import into the nano.
3.After researching, I downloaded and reinstalled Itunes and Quicktime both.
    Nothing seems to be working.
Funny thing is, there was one music video that imported from Itunes to the nan when I first registered and set it up, and it plays fine.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

My 13 yr. old daughter solved this problem, and successfully imported the TV show to her Ipod.
She tells me she has no idea how she did it, she just did it.
So, although I guess my problem is solved, I'd still love to know what the answer is.

  • Weird Bugs with new 4th Gen Nano

I've been getting weird bugs only a week after I bought a 16GB Orange 4th Generation iPod Nano on ebay New of course. First off, while at school the other day, it shut off and the apple screen showed for about 30 seconds. Then none of my 600 songs would play. However, I reset the ipod by pressing the center button and menu and holding them down for a few seconds. What do you think is wrong? Thank you so much.
    John

I just bought a PURPLE 4th Gen Nano 8gig, and I have been having the same problem. If I skip to the next song more than 4 times, the Nano shuts off and reboots. I did have one particular song, when "played," that was causing it to shut down, so I removed it. I did not attempt to re-sync it. Now, if I skip to next track more than 4 times, it shuts down and reboots. This happens a few times a day. Depending on my mood, I may not want to listen to Rock tracks that day, so I skip them to get to my R&B tracks. Some days I want to listen to DANCE tracks. So, for clarity's sake, I do tend to skip songs a lot. But that should not be cause for constant reboots, from any MP3 player. It certainly was never a problem for my Sandisk Sansa e280, that I owned before switching to iPod.
Another item that bothers me is that my tracks are not all in alphabetical order. Or rather, I should say, they are listed alphabetically in multiple sections. Out of 1500+ songs, there are approx. 20 sections of A-Z. For example: If you scroll through the song list A-Z, you will not find Nat King Cole's "Nature Boy." But after Z, the list "continues" A-Z again!! But "Nature Boy" is not in that list either. The list continues on AGAIN, A-Z... and viola, there is "Nature Boy." In the THIRD section of A-Z of the song list. Anyone, have a clue as to WHY the entire library of music is not listed alphabetically? But rather parceled out in sections?? None of the tracks are repeated, each section of A-Z contains different tracks!! It makes finding a song you are wanting to hear, a real chore!! And is NOT indicative of a world class company, nor a world class product.
And before anyone reads off their teleprompter as to how "I should check to see that my computer is blah, blah, blah......" It IS up-to-date. Every driver, every piece of software, every security definition, every release, every add-on. I spent an entire weekend making absolutely POSITIVE that THAT issue was resolved. Vista SP1, Windows Defender, IE7, Firefox 3, iTunes 8, eve-ry-th-ing!! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I'm looking for a little thing called "real answers." Thanks.

How can I sync my 4th gen nano with the music I have in my iphone4 or iPad2? I no longer use a regular computer, and have music in my iPad I want to put on my iPod. Is it possible?

No.  Music can only be synced to the Nano via iTunes on a PC or Mac.

  • Can bomberman game work with 4th Gen ipod Nano?

In the games section it says they all work for the 3rd and 4th gen ipods and then inside the games it says different in some cases, and in the bomberman game one it says only the 3rd gen nano, will this not work with the 4th gen nano? Lemme know thanks! AIM me at azrael4791 about this! THanks!

You're looking at this one, right?

Interesting, the main page does say 3rd & 4th gen nanos, but the Bomberman page doesn't. However some of the other games I checked randomly do say 4th gen nano.
If I were you, I'd contact Hudson Software - the makers of that iPod click-wheel game.

  • HT1351 Got a used 4th gen nano, but i need to sync it. i can see it but i cant figure out how to authorize it

Got a used 4th gen nano and I need to sync it with my library on my computer. I can see the ipod but i cant figure out how to authorize it

You don't need to "authorize" it, unless you are trying to sync content that uses DRM (copy protection).  You probably just need to set up syncing.
First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected.
Select the iPod in the sidebar.  The iPod's Summary screen is shown to the right.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music to the right of Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  If your iTunes music library is small enough to fit on the iPop's storage, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  From the lists below, select what you want to sync the iPod.  One convenient way to set this up is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, and put ALL of the songs you want on the iPod on those playlists.  (Or you can use existing playlists.)  Back on the iPod's Music screen, select (checkmark) those playlists under Playlists.  You can also select other items on those lists, as desired.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs the songs in your selections to the iPod.  Going forward, to update the iPod, just update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes updates the iPod with the same changes automatically.
