Problems with (a) import of .MPEG files (b) HDV material /tape
I have issues several issues with *Final Cut Express 4.0* and iMovie '09 which might be related. Basically the *import of HDV material* seems to be impossible, at least with the camera I use. I really hope this is not the case!
I currently try to convert from the Windows environment to Mac. On my Windows Vista system I use Premiere Elements 7 as a default software for video manipulation. The *HDV camera* I use is a tape based *HV-20 from Canon*. The import on the Windows system is done be a 4-pin to 4-pin Firewire cable which worked fine. The result is a file in format .mpeg.
When I try to import tapes on the iMac I firstly discovered - a new cable is required. The iMac uses the 9-pin Firewire 800. So I have this cable. However it seems this does not solve the issue. *Neither Quicktime nor iMovie nor Final Cut Express 4.0 can even recognize the HV-20 camera from Canon.* What could be the reason? (remember the same camera setting is recognized by the windows system).
Secondly I have issues in transferring my collection of .mpeg files to the iMac. Here I found out a mpeg-codec exists for Quicktime (applicable from Quicktime 7 onwards). This codec needs to be bought separately - however it didn't help in this case. Quicktime recognize now the .mpeg file but the screen remained black and the sound is silence. So, *how can I import .mpeg files into Final Cut Express 4.0*?
I seek for some good advice here. Hope somebody can help. Thanks.
Hi(Bonjour)!
Welcome to the forum.
You have to select Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 in easy setup dialog to capture from this camera.
No need of MPEG quicktime component at this stage. HDV is transcoded to AIC.
Here's an example of workflow when working with HDV material edited in HD sequence:
It's a must to use the correct setup in easy setup dialog to fit your shooted material on tape.
Here's the steps to follow if you want to edit in HD (by the way some camcorders can shoot in HD mode or DV NTSC mode: wide or standard screen (or pal for european model).
On the FX1
-find the camera menu and set the recording format to HDV (it sould be 1080i60 (1080i50 for FX1E model)as it's the HDV format used by this model).
-Set the output format to automatic or 1080i (this is the type of signal that will be outputed by your camcorder upon capture via firewire).
-turn off you camcorder and mac.
-Plug both devices with a firewire cable.
-turn on the FX1 AND the mac.
-Start FCE
In Final Cut Express 4.0.1
-Use "Easy Setup..." command in Final Cut express menu , select HD in format tab, 29.97 in rate tab and HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (or AIC 1080i50 for european models). Click "Setup" button.
-From this point, any new sequences and capture session will occur in Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (the format used to edit in HDV).
-Use command-8 to open the capture window. HDV is captured via a simple dialog. There are no capture settings or log clips info.
-Start your camcorder in *VCR mode*(the play button on camcorder or on remote) and click the capture now button into FCE HD.
NOTES: there is no sound from your MAC upon capturing. There is a lag time between what is played on your cam and what you can see on your mac screen, so use the camcorder screen to monitor the content.
-Hit the "ESC" key when you want to stop the capturing process.
Once the esc key is pressed, your mac will continue to process the captured material and the capture window should close.

Problem with an import of .wav files
Hello everyone,
I have a very annoying problem when I try to import a wave file: FCP doesn't respect the length of the audio file. It stretches it!
The audio file is the final mix of my film which lasts 59min25sec.
Exported from ProTools, the Finder sees the file as 59min25sec, idem for QuickTime Player 7. Everything is normal.
When I import it in Final Cut, it sees it as 59min21sec Stretched...
Help !Thanks for your answers!
@ darbypsnm and 2reverb
It's a stereo 48KHz 24bit file. I did a try with a 48KHz 16bit version: same problem...
I can read it on the specs that show me Final Cut and when I place the sound file on the timeline of my editing, a progressive desync happens.
@ Michael Grenadier
Ok I will check this but I think I've already done it...
I'm not sure it's a matter of frame rate because 4 seconds of length difference on a 1 hour film is not enough for a 25fps/30fps misunderstanding...
I'll do some further tests based on all your advises. Thanks again! -
Problem with the imported video clips
Hi! I'm very new to Premiere Pro, so please don't scold me :)
I have a video file (.AVI) that I want to remove the audio from, and insert a new audio track.
Here's my problem: When I import the AVI file into Premiere, and double-click it to preview it, it is really glitchy. The video is 1 minute long. During ~5 seconds in the very beginning, the whole video's "video" track is played, extremely speeded up (It plays through it all). The rest of the video consists of a freezed frame, and the audio is played in normal pace.
I do not know which codec the AVI-file is encoded with, is this relevant?
When I restarted Premiere the first time, it told me that it had to download codecs. I pressed OK and the codecs was downloaded and installed okay, but the problem remains.
I copied the .AVI-file directly from my camera (Canon IXUS 700 I believe).
When I play the original AVI file with VLC, everything runs perfectly with audio and video.
I'm totally clueless, anyone have a clue how I can solve this?
Any help at all appreciated, thanks in advance!>I do not know which codec the AVI-file is encoded with, is this relevant?
Very relevant. Please provide
these details to help us help you.

Problem with export / import
Hi everybody, I am having a problem with an import. I am doing an export with a value in an user exit:
EXPORT V_NLQNR = V_NLQNR TO MEMORY ID 'QUANTL'
And after I call import in another program:
IMPORT V_NLQNR = V_NLQNR FROM MEMORY ID 'QUANTL'.
But when I check the sy-subrc I am getting 4, so I don't get anything.
Does anybody why?? Is there a problem if I call the export from an user exit??
Thanks in advance.Hello,
I think you have the right idea.
As a suggestion I would name my variables to make it clear which data is being
exported/imported. I would also use different names on the left and right side of the = sign.
Here is a working example from programs that I use:
In the first program
EXPORT intercodata FROM g_data_exp TO MEMORY ID 'INTERCOWOS'.
where g_data_exp is declared as a global variable
In the second program
IMPORT intercodata TO g_data_imp FROM MEMORY ID 'INTERCOWOS'.
where g_data_imp is declared as a global variable
The syntax that you use ( p1 = dobj1 ) should work as well, just make sure that the variable v_nlqnr to the right of the equal sign has a value before the export.

Problems with multiple idocs in one file ( Inbound file )
HI,
Thanks in Advance for your suggestions.. Highly appreciated.
We have problems with multiple IDocs in one file.
We are using XIB ( Amtrix ) as Middleware to receive the files.
Curretenly When the file contains one IDoc then there is no problem. IDoc is created and everything is ok.
If file contains two IDocs ( for example two messages ORDERS and DELVERY ) then it is creating two IDocs but both IDocs contains ORDERS plus DELIVERY segements information. That is the problem. Some how SAP unable to differentiate the IDocs in the file.. But it knows that how many idocs are there in the file..because it is creating exact number of idocs.
We are using TRFC port ... Do I need to change it to File port..
When we have more than one idoc do we need set any parameter in the file ...Thanks for the swift response. Always ideas are useful.
As of now , Middleware cannot split the file.
Thing is SAP is creating two Idocs with different message types. Problem is First IDoc contains ORDERS message type but also DELIVERY segments as well. Second IDoc with DELIVERY message tyoe but ORDERS segments as well... This is the problem... I think we are missing some field activation in file for EDIDC record.
As far as I know file port supports the number of IDocs in one file.. Hope TRFC port also supports that -
Strange problem with linking to external vob-file
I have a strange problem with linking to external vob-file. I
have created a link using BudApi:
on mouseup
set OK = baOpenFile ( the pathname &
"Files\General\Video\VTS_01_1.VOB", "normal")
end
This code opens mpg-videos correctly, but nothing happens
when I try to open vob-files with the same code. The strangest
thing is that when I change the default program for vob-files to
WinDVD this code works and the file opens, but when I change the
default program to Nero Showtime this code doesn't do anything
(when I open the file 'manually' from the folder, it opens
correctly on Nero Showtime). My client uses Nero Showtime, so I
really would appreciate any help on this one.temes wrote:

If you open a command prompt, do you get an association
listed like this
example for .txt files:
C:\>assoc .txt
.txt=txtfile
C:\>ftype txtfile
txtfile="D:\Program Files\JGsoft\EditPadLite\EditPadLite.exe"
"%1"

Problem with windows not liking any files named prn
I recently found a problem with windows not liking any files
called prn.html, prn.cfm etc etc. If you try and create a file like
prn.html then it will say "File already exists".
I initially thought it was a Cold Fusion error as I was
getting some bizarre error messages when trying to write prn.html
using cffile.
Does anyone know a work around for it?Hi,
Not only "prn" but also for the terms like "AUX", "NUL" you
can't create any directories or files in Windows because these are
reserved terms with Windows which is meant for some device
drivers... -
Getting Started with FCE - Problems with my imported files
Hi,
I'm trying to get started with Final Cut Express, but I'm experiencing lots of problems when I import my project from iMovie.
My project contains video, which I imported into iMovie at 960 x 540. It also contains some keynote animations, which I exported from Keynote as quicktime files.
When I export my files to FCE, I instantly get problems.
1) When I add the imported file to the sequence, I get an "Attention the clip does not match the sequence's setting or any of your sequence settings" error.
2) Whether I choose to translate my settings or not, I try to play the video in the timeline, but there is a continuous beeping sound, no audio from my video and when it hits the keynote animations, it just says "unrendered" or "media offline".
Please can you offer any advice on how I can get started with FCE more successfully.
Thanks!Hi(Bonjour)!
(please specify iMovie and FCE version)
Well, your sequence settings in FCE should be DV-PAL 48 Khz.
Create a new sequence.
From iMovie and Keynote, export your movie with quicktime conversion andd select DV-PAL 48 kHz (*And Not* DV Stream...). This material should play without rendering because his format and codec match the sequence's codec.
Import your files and everything should be OK.
Michel Boissonneault
The audio should be AIFF 48 kHz 16 bit linear PCM -
AE CS4 Is no longer importing my mpeg files - error 86: 1
Hello,
This is really weird. As of yesterday my HD mpeg files imported and played just fine in After Effects. Today I went to import a new clip (that I just captured in Premiere CS4) and it gave me error 86:1 saying it is an unsupported format, when it isn't.
I have over 20 AE projects that contain mpeg clips from my camera, none of these projects will open any of these clips as of today. Every project I open gives me error after error saying this clip and that clip are unsupported then it says the clips are missing footage. Yesterday everything was fine but today not so good.
Does anyone know what the hell is going on here?
I am on a Mac running the latest version of Leopard. I installed the 10.5.8 update a few days ago and these mpegs have opened in AE since then.So I am ruling that out
Other than that everything else has been normal. As I said, yesterday these mpeg clips were working fine. Now they are not.
any advice anyone can offer is appreciated.
Aloha,
~ 0well shortly after posting the same problem started happening with Premiere as well, except Premiere would tell me the pixel dimensions were to large on the footage (??1920x1080 too big)anyway, I uninstalled and then reinstalled both AE and Premiere and repaired my disk permissions again and everything is okay now. Wheeeeew. was praying I did not have to reinstall my os.

Bizarre problem trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into PSE7 Organizer
Hi
b Summary of problem:
*I recently upgraded to PSE 7 / PRE 7
*I am trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into the PSE7 Organizer
*I get a "...did not contain any supported file types..." error on attempted import
b HOWEVER...
*I can edit same footage in PRE7
*This footage is automatically added to the Organizer
*I can play this footage in the PSE7 organizer but generating thumbnails takes ages
*Camera: Sony HDR SR12 producing .MTS files (full 1920x1080i HD)
*PC: Intel Core i7 940 CPU, 6GB RAM, RADEON HD 4870 512MB
*OS: Vista 64 bit
b Detail:
I have recently upgraded my PRE/PSE bundle to ver 7 primarily because the new version of PRE boasts support for AVCHD.
Having installed the new software I quickly tried editing footage in PRE7 with video taken on my Sony HDR SR12 camera (footage taken in full 1920x1080i HD) and it works! Hoorah! I can now finally edit AVCHD footage in it's native format using PRE. Thank you Adobe!
But my joy was very shortlived because when I tried to import some other footage from the same batch into my PSE7 Video Catalog it wouldn't work. I got a pop up box containing the following error:
i "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog."
Under this message is a list of the files that I tried to import. Next to each one there is a reason (it's the same reason for each clip):
i "Reason: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer."
To import files I use the following method: File / Get Photos and Videos / From Files and Folders
HOWEVER, the files that I imported directly into PRE7 in order to edit them have (surprise, surprise!) automatically been added PSE7 Organizer's Catalog. It takes a quite a while to generate a thumbnail for each clip but it does eventually do it and when it does I can play that footage in PSE7.
Just in case you're confused by this stage... If I try and manually add files to the PSE7 Organizer it doesn't work BUT if I edit that footage in PRE7 and then load the PSE7 Organizer I see the footage has been automatically added. This makes no sense whatsoever!
Am I doing something really stupid here? Why oh why will the PSE7 Organizer not import .MTS (AVCHD) files?!
NB: While searching for a solution to this problem I have, thanks to this Forum, found out about the K-Lite Codec Pack. I downloaded and installed the Basic pack v4.4.5 and now I can, at least, play my .MTS video files in Windows Media Player... I wish I had found out about that a couple of months ago because it would have saved me from buying Cyberlink PowerDVD 8!
Please someone help before I lose the plot.
Thanks
Patrick
b PC: Intel Core i7 940 CPU, 6GB RAM, RADEON HD 4870 512MB, Vista 64 bit
b Camera: Sony HDR SR12 producing .MTS files (footage in full 1920x1080i HD)Hi
I'd just like to add an update to this post.
b Summary:
*K-Lite Codec Pack clashes with Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software
*Analysis of video in Sony's PMB is well worth doing!
*You can Drag and Drop clips from Sony's PMB into PRE7
b Detail:
As you've probably gathered I have now settled on using Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) to Catalog all my video. Sorry Adobe to talk about someone elses product but the Adobe Organizer just can't cope with AVCHD footage no matter how you manage to import it! It's far too sluggish and my PC has an Intel Core i7 940 CPU with 6GB RAM and a 10,000 RPM HDD!
Anyway, in my first post you'll have read me raving about the K-Lite Codec Pack but sadly I've had to uninstall it because it kept on causing PMB to crash. PMB runs much smoother and quicker WITHOUT that codec pack. Something about it clashed with PMB. The once agile PMB became sluggish and unresponsive.
Having now removed the codec pack PMB is back to being agile and generaly lovely.
To view AVCHD footage outside of PMB I have reverted to using Cyberlink's PowerDVD 8 - there's always a pregnant pause between double-clicking on the clip and it playing but that's the only drawback.
If you are going to use Sony's PMB for cataloging your video collection (and I recommend you do so BUT only if you have AVCHD footage - otherwise stick to Adobe's Organiser) then I can fully recommend "Analyzing" all of your footage. This takes time and a bit of patience because it kept stopping for no apparent reason but would readily start up again (without having to do anything else) BUT once it's done it'll reward you with the following:
*Filter on any combination of Scenery, People, Smiles - e.g. with a click of a button you can isolate footage that contains smiles, etc
*Face Search - if you select some or all of the footage in the right-hand pane it will then put a small thumbnail for all of the different faces in that selected footage in the bottom "Face Search" pane. If you then click on one of those thumbnails it will jump to the clip(s) that contain that face and grey out all the other clips
*Expand Videos - This tool is brilliant! In normal viewing mode you get a thumbnail of the video whether you're in Folder view, Calender view or Detail List view. If, however, you select "Expand Videos" from the tool bar it will show you a series of frames contained within that clip. You can choose from "Highlights" or various regular intervals (5 secs, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc). The Highlights option does a pretty good job of picking out the significant changes within the clip
Lastly, I have discovered that you can drag a clip from Sony's PMB into PRE7. It won't let you put it directly onto the Timeline but it will let you drop it into the Project file list (found under the Edit tab).
I do hope that this info has helped others like me who are trying to get to grips with editing and cataloging AVCHD footage.

Performance and usability problems with Illustrator imports
I am usually an enthusiast advocate for Adobe Software. As a UI/Interaction designer I regularly showcase your products as a shining example.
That's why I am somewhat frustrated about the Flash Catalyst Beta. I trust you guys to come out with SOMETHING GREAT eventually, but I have just spend an entire day with Catalyst and it was not particularly a joy. Couldn't you have released it a bit later to save me the frustration?
Situation:
- Medium size Adobe Illustrator CS4 import (10 screens/stages with 20-100 Illustrator objects per screen)
- Target : 800x600 embedded UI for medical product
- Illustrator file chosen as starting point
Performance / reliability problems include
- Crashing (Vista Core2Duo with 2gig of Ram)
- Super poor performance (wait 8 seconds to hide/show a layer)
- No show of thumbnail images anywhere
- No matching of document size (exact 800x600 from Illustrator became 800x599)
- Playing the file did not work
Usability issues
- Poor test display
- Poor match with Illustrator file (things seem to be rendered differently!)
- Window selecting does not work well
- No hand tool
- No ability to lock layers
- Cluttered interface (Not enough space for the "stage"or what you call it)
- No way to resize Illustrator elements from one of 9 edge/center points
- etc. etc.
Building a wireframe version from the ground up (with Illustrator import) seemed to work fine
I played around with the MS Blend beta for a while, and while the basic concept of your product is much more clear, the execution of the MS product in the beta phase was lightyears ahead in terms of stability and usability
I'm sure you can do better!
KoenKoen,
Thank you for the detailed feedback about the performance problems you have experienced and your thoughts about features you would like. Let me respond to each of your points
Performance: We are aware that Catalyst doesn't perform well with large complex files. We have made many performance improvements since the current plublic beta, so you should find Catalyst more responsive with larger projects when the next beta is posted.
Here are a few things you can do to work around the performance issues you are seeing with the current beta:
- Consider rasterizing complex elements that don't need to scaled in Catalyst
- In Catalst turn complex artwork into optimized graphics using the "Convert to optimized graphics" in the float HUD (heads up display panel)
We have also found that particularly on Windows that Catalyst can run out of memory with large files. This area is also being worked on so stay tuned for the next beta.
Features:
- Poor test display [tv] Do you mean the design display doesn't match the appearance of the published project?
- Poor match with Illustrator file (things seem to be rendered differently!) [tv] we have fixed a lot of bugs here. Expect this to improve a lot in the next beta
- No hand tool - [tv] coming soon :-)
- No ability to lock layers [tv] coming soon :-)
- Cluttered interface (Not enough space for the "stage"or what you call it) [tv] Yes, Catalyst currently cannot dock/undock panels
- No way to resize Illustrator elements from one of 9 edge/center points [tv] This is also a known limitation. I agree it is useful
I hope the next beta comes closer to meeting your expectations. A lot of performance work and new features has been done since the last public posting, so look forward to beta II.

Problem with EXPORT IMPORT PROCESS in ApEx 3.1
Hi all:
I'm having a problem with the EXPORT IMPORT PROCESS in ApEx 3.1
When I export an application, and try to import it again. I get this error message
ORA-20001: GET_BLOCK Error. ORA-20001: Execution of the statement was unsuccessful. As a workaround, I check the exported file and found this
wwv_flow_api.create_flow
p_documentation_banner=> '牃慥整⠤㈰㈯⼴〲㠰〠㨷㠵㈺′äµ
And when I replace with this
p_documentation_banner=> ' ',
I can import the application without the error.
somebody knows why I have to do this??
Thank you all.
Nicolas.Hi,
This issue seems to have been around for a while:
Re: Error importing file
I've had similar issues and made manual changes to the file to get it to install correctly. In my case, I got:
ORA-20001: GET_BLOCK Error. ORA-20001: Execution of the statement was unsuccessful.<br>ORA-02047: cannot join the distributed transaction in progress<br>begin execute immediate 'alter session set nls_numeric_characters='''||wwv_flow_api.g_nls_numeric_chars||'''';end;There are several suggestions, if you follow that thread, about character sets or reviewing some of the line breaks within pl/sql code within your processes etc. Not sure what would work for you. -
IMovie and Final Cut Pro unexpectedly when importing 720p MPEG files
I'm running iMovie/FinalCutPro on Yosemite. Every time I try and import a 720p MP4 with 60FPS both programs quit unexpectedly while generating the thumbnails. The files I am using have run/imported without any problems into Quicktime, VLC, Adobe Premiere and my brother's iMovie on his Macbook Pro machine.
What I have done in no particular order:
1. Cache/preferences cleaning
2. Re-install iMovie
3. Delete all codecs except AIC and AppleMPEG2
4. Install codecs (Perian, divx, xvid)
5. Delete Flash Player
6. Repair permissions
7. Repair hard drive in safe mode
8. Delete iPhoto database, tinker with GarageBand
9. I logged in as a guest user and the problem persists
10. 540p MP4 with 30FPS and that had no problem importing into iMovie
I believe I have isolated the issue to a quicktime engine that is either corrupted or defective that is causing both iMovie and Final Cut Pro to crash. I could use Adobe Premiere or another machine, but I prefer iMovie and would like it to work on my machine. The only solution I can think of is reinstalling the OS, but I really am against that.
Let me know if you have any other ideas. Please see the Problem Report below:

Problems with .aaf import in premiere pro cc
Hi,
So I'm having problems with importing an aaf file into premiere. The weird thing is it was working about a week and a bit ago, then stopped. I can't work out why, to my knowledge nothing has changed but if someone could point me in the right direction that would be massively appreciated.
I'm using premiere pro cc and avid media composer. I'm trying to export from avid and import into premiere. I'm creating an .aaf file in avid and trying to import into premiere. When I press import, the progress bar comes up and gets stuck instantly. I can close the aaf import window, but then it leaves the import files progress bar still up and premiere stops responding completely.
At first it worked fine, within premiere I can still use the aaf files already imported, I just can't import more (I can't even import the files I had previously done successfully). I just can't work out why?
Any help would be massively appreciated,
Thanks,
JackHi Jack,
Please check the below Forum thread and roll back to the Initial version 7.0 of Premiere Pro CC. You can choose to update Premiere Pro CC to the desired version from the below links.
