Problems with a Presario 5000

I bought a Presario 5000 wya back in early 2007. It worked fine for a while then it all of a sudden got really slow. It loaded slow when powered on, opening a program etc. So, I took it back to Best Buy told them, they fixed it because I still had the warrenty. Got it back worled fine then shortly after the same problem. By then the warrenty was done and BB couldn't do anything about. I got fed up and had a lot of stuff going on in my life at the time where I didn't persue anythign else about it.
Anyways, I was curious as to if their was any known issues concerning this kind of problem back then and if HP knew about it and did anything for it and or if HP at any point did anything to help this situation if anyone else encountered it. I just now started look through it again and it runs even slower now then before. Any kind of help would be beyond appeciated. I would like to get this baby working again. Thanks in advance,.

Do you mean the V5000? For goodness sakes that was 5 years ago and you are asking if there is some way to still hold HP accountable? The V5000 was not part of the dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 mess. When an old computer starts to run slow like that I think it needs to be opened and cleaned out so that the cooling system can do its job. AMD laptops seem particularly prone to that issue. I also start to think it could use a new hard drive. So open it up clean it out and put new thermal compound between the processor and heatsink. Then run a hard drive scan and see if there are problems there. You did reinstall the OS, right? That is likely part of it, too. Lastly, how much RAM does it have? HP used to sell XP machines with 256 megs and Vista machines with 512. The minimums IMO are 1 gig for XP and 2 gigs for Vista/7.

  • Problem with Compaq Presario V6000 laptop

Hi forum members! I am a newbie to this forum and i would like to introduce myself, my name is Hammy and I am from Glasgow. I have a problem with my laptop whih is a Compaq Presario V6000 running windows Vista, 32 bit product number V6254EA.
A few weeks ago when i turned on the computer it failed to boot up, the only thing visible on the screen is the bar at the bottom of the screen with `Microsoft Corporation` displayed below it.
I have tried starting it up in SAFE MODE but all that happens is that a certain amount of windows system drivers are loaded and then goes no further!
I have purchased recovery discs with no joy! I have also tried a hard reset which has not solved the problem. I tried the `hard drive self test, which after approx 30 seconds carrying out a quick test displayed the following message #1- 07 Fail.
If it is the hard drive or the motherboard that has failed is it possible to replace them.
    Thanks

Did you burn the recovery disks? Will follow up with the manual and a link to buy the hdd.

  • Re: rollover keyboard problem with a Presario C769US

This Presario C769US  OS Win7 Home 32 bit works just fine except for 1 game that I play a lot away from home.  Like if I have a few hours to kill before a meeting starts.  This older games are simple to play using just the keyboard.  So I don't have to lug around cd/dvd's,  joysticks and manuals.
1 game Bio Menace requires certain keyboard cmd's to be entered during game play in order to turn the cheat menu on.  1st  C+A+T   then C+O+D  >  a box opens up and type in 91827 then hit enter.  (Here is were the Rollover cmd error starts)  I next press and hold J+I+M wait a 1/2 second then press space bar.   Then let up all 4 keys at the same time.  If timming is correct The cheat menu pops up.  I checked the keyboard with a keyboard testing prog.  When I press J+I+M everything works fine.  But holding J+I+M down and pressing space bar,  The space bar just doesn't get seen as been pushed.  This is the 2nd laptop that I got.  The 1st one an Acer one laptop had the same kind of keyboard problem.  Now my primary home computer is a Gateway laptop model MD2614U  OS win7 32 bit and that big old Toshiba M60 laptop (before the screen croaked)  is the one I carryed in my backpack.  Now the Gateway laptop and the Toshiba laptop both could handle the J+I+M then space bar cmd with no problems.    Is there any way to fix this rollover problem in the Presario laptop?

  • Sound Problem with Compaq Presario

    Hi,
I am using a Compaq Presario SR 1630IL desktop, Prod # EG224AA#ACJ, S/N INI54709VG. In my system Windows XP and Ubuntu 9.4 are installed with Ubuntu as the default OS. The PC is using Realtek ALC 880 sound card. The linux sound module is snd-hda-intel.

I have tried  all the howto's available in the webbut couldn't improve the situation. Is there any problem with ALC880 chipset in lunux.
Eagerly waiting for the assistanse from HP

  • Wireless and batter problems with Compaq Presario CQ45-315TX Notebook PC

Was using my Compaq a year or so when it suddenly stopped detecting the battery. Short time after it stopped detecting the wireless module (listed as error 702 during startup).
I've already made sure all of my drivers are up-to-date, automaticaly and manually. I read in other forums that a BIOS update would fix both of these problems. I downloaded the reccomended update to go from BIOS Version F.66 to F.66A. I'm not sure if it actually worked as the update was to the same versio and ID as the existing BIOS.
Is there another update for BIOS F.66 as the ones I've tried don't seem tio change its version after they run, or is there another solution to this problem?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the Conexant HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45166.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Conexant device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the Conexant installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Problem with Compaq Presario CQ60 Laptop

Periodically laptop will not turn on.  I had a message "critically low battery".  Tried plugging in and no response.  couple of days later, computer responded and did turn on.  This situation causes great distress as I fear work will be lost forever.  do i need new battery?  Please advise.  Helene

    Hi,
Let me summarize, your laptop won't start from time to time and you had (have?) a "critically low battery" message.
When your laptop doesn't start, plugging in does not help.
When you face the problem, try to remove the battery from your laptop, plug it in and try to boot without the battery.
Batteries are well known to cause that kind of issue and if your computer does start without the battery then you may need to replace it with a new one.
But before you purchase a new battery, have a look there :
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00821536&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3791961
This tool will certainly help you.
Regarding your files, even though at that point there seems to be little to fear, you should always back them up as they are more valuable to you than any piece of hardware!
With an up to date backup, anything can happen to your computer, you're safe otherwise there is always a tiny chance they can't be recovered (it's impossible, as an example, to recover files from a stolen laptop...)

  • Problems with Compaq Presario CQ61

I have a Presario CQ61 and recently updated the iTunes software installed. Everything worked fine until I went to shut down the computer. While waiting for the windows menu to load it crashed, since then it hasn't worked (some 5 days).
When I turn it on it asks if I want to restart in normal windows mode of safe mode (recommended).
I have tried both options. They both seem to work, the green bar moves but then I am faced with an indeffinate blank screen.
I have tried removing the battery, making sure there is a full charge and that everything is connected properly. The power button is lit up white and the WIFI button is blue.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue booting the notebook up. You could be having an issue with Hard Drive in the notebook, Sometimes when the Hard Drive is bad it prevents the notebook from booting windows.
Try and test the Hard Drive in the BIOS. Follow this document and it should guide you through testing the Hard Drive and the memory.
Please let me know the outcome. If you have any more questions let me know.

  • Problem With Compaq presario V3500

Currenty i have used Compaq V3500 since september 2008 ( before i bought CQ40-308TU, since i feel satisfied with HP-Compaq product). but a few days ago, my notebook suddenly crash, after (unfortunally) my guarantee has expired. After i can solve the crash, and can enter into system, my ram only detected 1GB( i have been upgraded into 2GB). i tried to check and test whetever sodimm is dead. but after i check, the reslt for my sodimm is alive. i found later, the problem is on  the socket for sodimm, one socket is dead. since my guarantee is expired, i tried to service at general notebook service centre. but they also give up for this matter. they suggestion is to change the mainboard with new ones, and  this will be costly enough. could anyone suggest the other option to fix this problem without replace the mainboard with the new one??or this was already general problem for V3500 user from the start?( maybe v3500 is a failure product from HP-compaq?)
    This question was solved.

With a dead memory slot your only option is a new motherboard. Yes, the whole V3000 line is a cousin to the Pavilion dv6000 line, which has not been a sterling performer to say the least.

  • Audio Problems with a Presario CQ56.

I picked up a Compaq Presio CQ56, just over a week ago. When I'm either watching videos online or using iTunes, the laptop has a tendency to cause some audio problems.
The audio begins to lag severely, causing everything else to lag until the computer is rebooted. The audio also has an almost "screech-like" sound while it lags too.
I've attempted to use the HP Tune-up and I did a system restore, but nothing happened.
Does anyone possibly know what the problem is?

  • Intermittent boot problem with Compaq Presario V6305NR

On pressing start button, laptop starts, but blank screen comes. After every few seconds, it keeps on rebooting, but nothing happens.
I have tried pressing F10 and Esc button on startup, but nothing happens.
Moving finger over multimedia touch buttons causes them to beep.
Few times, it shows the BIOS, but does not detect the hard-drive.
Very rarely, everything works fine and OS boots and works fine (without any sign of problem).
I replaced RAMs, hard-drive and DVD Reader in other laptop and there they worked absolutely fine.
I even tried removing the battery, connecting external monitor, keyboard, but nothing worked.
    BIOS version is F.3D.
When opened, CPU fan and heatsink were dustfree.
    Product Specs: HP Presario V6305NR, 1.6 GHz AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-50, 1024MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm), NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 (UMA)

After few days my laptop stopped starting.
It showed no activity, as its motherboard had got fired up.
It was fault on their side (the faulty BIOS fan control algorithm), that let the motherboard to over heat.
I updated the BIOS, but it was too late by then.
Luckily my laptop was still in extended warrenty period (2 years from date of purchase).
I sent it to their service center and they repaired my laptop free of cost.
    Its working fine now.

  • Leopard printing problems with HP Laserjet 5000

Hi to anyone who might be able to help.
I've just installed Leopard, and now my HP 5000 Laserjet (hooked up via ethernet) will not print. When I print, the computer says it is printing, but the printer never prints anything, and even though the printer shows up in the print window, the computer never actually finds the printer. I have downloaded the latest driver from the HP web site, which hasn't helped at all....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Angus

    Hi Gus1,
Since it's hooked up via Ethernet, I assume then it's a 5000N? We have one of those and it works just fine in Leopard. So there must be something wrong in your setup. Two things you can try.
    1) It's an old, kind of slow protocol, but it works. Turn on AppleTalk. It's in the System Preferences under the Network tab. Choose "Ethernet" in the left pane. Click the "Advanced" button. Click on the AppleTalk tab and turn on the check box for "Make AppleTalk Active". Choose "Print & Fax" in the System Preferences and remove any entries for the 5000. Click the Add button and then the Default button. The 5000 should show up and show AppleTalk as its connection. Choose it and click Add.
    2) On the printer. Press the Menu button to the right once so the display reads, "Information Menu". Press the Item button twice to the right so the display reads, "Print Configuration". Press the Select button. The printer will kick out two sheets. On the first page under the "Printer Information" heading is the IP address for your printer. It's the second entry from the bottom labeled, "HP JetSend Address: ip: 192.168.5.6 (your actual address will of course be different).
In the "Print & Fax" heading of the System Preferences, remove any entries for the 5000. Click the Add button and then the IP button. Under the Protocol pull down menu, choose "HP Jet Direct - Socket". Under "Address:", enter the IP address on your printout, like my example of 192.168.5.6. Under "Name:", put in something meaningful, like "HP LaserJet 5000N". Assuming you have the PPD installed, then under "Print Using:' choose "HP LaserJet 5000 Series". Click the Add button.

  • Problem with Compaq Presario F700, F767NR

I am having trouble with my laptop,
    -The bottom gets hot fast
-Shuts off unexpectedly (it is almost like the battery dies but it is within 30 minutes or less of the computer being fully charged)
    - When the computer is started up the screen that has the horizontal scroll bar, it will stay on the screen not leaving it until the computer is restarted manually with the button and the computer is restored. ( I believe there is a correlation with the installation of updates and programs makes this more likely to happen)
-When the computer is on and the lid is closed, when it is opened again it takes and unusual amount of time upwards of 5 min to get a picture to show up.
I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could give.

try cleaning the fan. I had to open mines up and clean the fan real good and also put new thermal paste on the cpu also

troubleshoot problems with a compaq presario sr1603wm
whenever i turn on the computer the mouse, keyboard, and the monitor doesnt turn on. but the weird part is that when i use the 2-port usb KWM switch and switch them over to my other pc unit they work just fine. to make things worse my external hard drive, and the net card are showing that they have power going through them. im totatally lost cause i cant even get into dos, bios, or the start up screen. other monitors, keyboards, mouses dont work either. can you help me

i`ve narrowed down to1 thing wich may overheats my laptop:
The video card NVIDIA GeForce G103M might be the problem. i hear it has a kind of organic material , like glue, or other things wich keeps it togheter. this organic materials are not ment to resist to heat, wich makes them weaker. The temperature rises very quick, and the laptop performace goes down, when i start games or other video applications. so it must be the NVIDIA GeForce G103M. still whaiting for advice, or an ideea. thanks.

  • Compaq presario problems with vista

Hello, I am having major problems with our compaq presario sr5233wn desktop, os windows vista home premium. It started shutting down about ten days ago randomly, then started with a blue screenthat has displayed different messages... I have completed 6 different restore points and this didn't work... I then backed up my personal files and performed a complete system recovery installed on the pc...it worked great for about half an hour then the freaded blue screen popped up and I had to shut it down...i did this three times to no avail...then I did a complete recovery from the two discs I made shortly after purchase...that has not worked either...does anyone out there have a fix for this..I need my ole puter.
    Thanks Elmer

    Hi Elmer,
Sounds like the first thing you need to do is test for a hardware failure.  Check out Testing for Hardware Problems Using Hardware Diagnostic Tools (Windows Vista) and since it sounds like you are having problems running Windows for very long, skip to the bottom to the section called Using Hardware Diagnostic Tools when Windows does not open.  Run the tests and report back what you find, if anything fails then there is probably a hardware component that needs replaced, possible culprits include the memory or the hard drive based on the symptoms you are describing.  If everything passes, post that back as well, and let us know, and we can look for other causes of your problems.
    Good Luck!
