Problems with artwork in coverflow.

First I already read the article in the FAQ section, and it still didn't help me. I have multiple artworks for the same albums. If its a single disc CD I'll have two artworks, one for the first song, and one for all the rest. This is the main problem. Another one I have is If I have a 2 disc (or more) CD, I would prefer to have them have the same album artwork yet still label them as for example the beatles last year disc 1 and disc 2. Is that possible?

For the single disc CD choose the song which has the artwork that you want, right click on it and choose Get Info, go to the artwork tab and right click on the album art and click Copy. Now exit, select all songs on the album, right click and go to Get Info again and simply tick the box next to artwork and Paste it to apply it to every song.
For the multiple disc problem the same method should apply, as long as they are labelled disc 1, disc 2, etc

  • Problem with artwork in iTunes 7

Since i got iTunes 7 a strange error started in my ipod video 60gb(fully updated):
First, the ipod was not showing any artwork. Then i tried to uncheck the "display artwork" field, and press apply. Then check the field againd, and press apply again. It started to optimize my artwork, but by the middle of the process, this error happened: "The ipod "Flavio" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred
(-50).". I started searching in the internet what could this error be, and found that it is a communication problem, or something like that, but could be caused by bad (corrupted maybe) pictures, photos or artwork. I erased them all (even all the artwork) and tried the uncheck-check process again, and the same error happened. I read that it could be lack of space in my computer, but right now there are 6.6gb of free space in my c: (is it enough?) and the error still happens.
Today i plugged my ipod on a computer with iTunes 6, tried the uncheck-check process again, and surprise, it worked! Unplugged the ipod, tried playing the only song with artwork remaining, and it worked too! So i came back home and tried again with itunes 7, but the error happened again, tried the song and the artwork wasn't showing again... Ok, so i tried with a laptop, itunes 6, and it worked perfectly again, then i thought "The problem can be happening just on my computer". Updated the laptop itunes, tried unchecking-checking again, and it seemed to work, no errors, but when i played the song on ipod, the artwork was gone again! Just like when the error happened... Tried again, no errors, no artwork, tried back on my computer, error, no artwork.
2 itunes 6 -> worked, 2 itunes 7 -> problems. The only possible conclusion is that there is a bug in this new itunes, or a new way of dealing with artwork (by itunes, not by the users). Am i right? Or can anyone help me?
I was thinking about restoring, but as i am adding everything by hand, nothing automatic, it could take a lot of time to choose everything again, and to make all the playlists again... And after seeing that this could be a bug, and could happen again, i decided to post everything here before restoring, to see if there is a better solution.
Thank you for helping! (or at least for reading this huge post, and sorry for my bad english...)

there is some problem with i tunes 7(the7.0.1 patch also) in that any artwork found by i tunes is visible whilst viewing tracks in your library if you transfer said tracks to your ipod then the artwork is not transferred, also it you use album artwork as your screensaver then artwork found by i tunes is not used. i can only think that something is not beeing written to the id tags of the tracks. any artwork found by yourself and dragged into the relevant box on the track or album information screen(called up by apple+i)is seen on itunes and by the screensaver. i have spoken to apple support and they assured me that they would get back to me as they had to investigate.that was a month ago. if the problem really bugs you then you can drag artwork found by itunes onto your desktop and then back into the tracks id screen. this remedys the problem but is tedious to say the least. hope this helps

  • Having problem with "artwork size & resolution exceeds the max that can be rasterized"

    Hi all,
Ok, I created a 162.7" x 90.6" document (artboard) for an exhibition display I'm designing. The document was created using all the defaults - i think this is where i went wrong. Illustrator is now telling me that "the combination of artwork size and resolution exceeds the maximum that can be rasterized" after i open the document and when i try to add a drop shadow to anything.
Other than some vector graphics i created in illustrator, I only have 3 180ppi and 4 300ppi photos tranfered right off the photograpers camera.
    I selected :
    1. "Print Document" from the initial splash window.
    2. I entered the artboard size, bleed and left the "Raster Effects" setting to "High (300ppi)"
I think leaving the Raster Effects setting at 300ppi is where the problem is.
Do i have to create a new document or can i fix the existing one?

nados you are a little confused that's all I think things are ll right and you are probably set to go with out going to Photoshop.
    1. Your file is probably fine as is
    2. Make certain you images are linked and not embedded
    3. Your Images are probably ok as far as they are for the the specs required do not lower the resolution just make certain they are linked.
You may have to reimport them and in the place dialog make certain link is checked.
    4. The Raster Image Effects setting is fine leave it as is.
    5. The jpegs are fine lee your images as is if that was what was supplied to you and they look clean.
    6. When saving the file save as .AI format and in the AI save as option dialog uncheck include linked files
(you will send them the jpegs as well as the AI file.)
    7. Send the images in what ever format they are now since that is jpeg leave it be just make certain the dimensions are the same as is being used in the document at 100%.
8 Make Certain you select the text and got Type> Create Outlines before saving the file.
9 Do not export the file to any other format.
10 Send the printer production house the AI file and the Jpegs you will be fine.
You should not have a problem with this file.

  • Library Shared Between Two Users- Problems with Artwork

My iTunes library is located in the Shared folder so that I can reach it from two different log-ins, and both have (or should have) the same access privileges, but for some reason I can only change the artwork when I'm logged into one of the accounts. When I log into the other account, the artwork options are grayed out. Any advice on how to fix this problem?

The problem with that method is you are sharing the same set of media files, but you each have your own iTunes databases, so you get that issue where songs added in one account do not show up automatically in the other. Likewise, one account can delete stuff and the other account won't know.
If you don't have a need to have both accounts accessing the iTunes library at the same time (meaning if you use fast switching, then each user would have to remember to close iTunes first), you can relocated the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the shared folder (not just the iTunes Music folder). Then use these instructions to open the library from that location...
How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
If both accounts use the above to point to the same library, you will both be using the exact same database files so what is done in one account is automatically there for the other account to see. However the downside is since both account use the same database files, you can not have both accounts running iTunes at the same time since both will be trying to access and write to the same file at the same time (bad thing). In addition, this also doesn't allow you to have different sets of playlists, playcounts, ratings, etc. Same database, so you would both have to see the same set of info including those.
If you rather stick to the old method of the same media files but separate database files, then you will have to continue to manually add stuff to the other account after importing from the first account to the media folder.

  • Problems with artwork

I started to organize my music and add missing artworks. But it doesn't work very well... I fixed about 5 albums, it was working, but with one album it wasn't.
I selected all songs from album, Get info, add artwork, OK, but nothing has changed. I tried another image, I tried restart itunes, restart mac, remove album from itunes library and add it back but nothing changed.
Another problem: if I change (also in this album) the "Artist" and confirm it, it is changed. But when I "get info" again, artist will change immediately back.
Where is the problem? Could be the files "locked" or something like this? How could I change the artwork? I use iTunes 10.0.1

I am having the same problem with some (not all) of my music files.
Sometimes when I edit the tag info like Name or Artist, and then click OK... the track information reverts back without the changes.
Also, I have problems when trying to add artwork. I will select the JPG file I wish to save as artwork, and then click OK to close the Info window. But the artwork does not save. When I open the track's information the artwork remains blank. This does not happen all of the time, maybe 25% of the time. But it seems to be completely random.

  • Problems with artwork and now more

    For background, I use Vista
I've owned my iPod Touch (2g) since June(?), and I didn't have any trouble with it until about a month ago, when the artwork on my iPod started getting mixed up. For example, the genius mix covers started showing up on single artist's albums. This got a little annoying, when it started showing showtunes mix albums for Neutral Milk Hotel and the like. I tried wiping the artwork for the songs that it was messed up on and reloading it, but it didn't work. Then it did it for my music videos (all of them), as well as it stopped syncing my television shows. Finally, instead of just mixing up the artwork, the album covers would start to mix together so they would be half and half and look like they had crashed together.
So finally, I did a restore (because I didn't know what else to do). It didn't work, and the artwork was still messed up. Now, in addition to having messed up artwork, sometimes songs will skip halfway through to the next song, and genius is messed up (for example, it will give me all of one album, only give me 13 songs or give me a mix of Regina Spektor and Mindless Self Indulgence).
I haven't had any problems with my iPod other than this, and the artwork is fine on iTunes. I don't think it's anything outside (i.e I haven't been dropping my iPod, I have a case, I didn't spill any liquids on it). I don't know what to do. Also, since the restore, it won't reload any of my purchased applications, music videos, or television shows. Can someone tell me how to get these back on?

I have an iPod touch, bought in 2008. My artwork, too, gets jumbled. At first, I noticed incorrect artwork downloaded from iTunes. I could replace that. But now, incorrect artwork will show up with individual songs (though the album artwork will be correct, both in iTunes and on the touch). Even clearing all the artwork on the album and replacing it does not work -- I have also tried deleting the artwork that showed up in error, but that did not solve the problem.
Not, obviously, an operational issue, but hugely annoying. Is there any fix out there for this?

  • Problems with artwork displaying in iTunes but not on iPod screen

    I have iTunes (7.6) and a 5th gen, 80GB, firmware 1.2.3 iPod.
Not infrequently, I find that a song's artwork is visible in iTunes, but not on the iPod itself. Sometimes the artwork is displayed simply as a black rectangle on the iPod.
The converse situation also sometimes happens - when album info is retrieved from the CDDB, sometimes album artwork is also retrieved - but this is not displayed in the iTunes software, only on the iPod.
And yes, the "Display album artwork on your iPod" checkbox is selected in iTunes.
Does anyone have any more info about this?
Are there any restrictions on image file formats? Maximum size? Type? Interlaced or not?
Last time I asked this question I got zero response
It is an irritating problem, cos there's no way to check what the artwork looks like on the iPod without disconnecting it from my PC :/

OK to drag this thread back on topic:
I think the "sync" thing is irrelevant anyways.
What I tried in the end was viewing my iPod in iTunes,
navigating through to the check box for "display album artwork",
    UNcheck it, and click apply.
At this point, iTunes said, with NO confirmation "Are you sure?" dialog, "DELETING ARTWORK ON iPOD" !! :-O I was not pleased
However I then re-selected the "display album artwork" box and clicked Apply. The process took about 10 minutes to complete.
When I then disconnected the iPod, the black squares were gone, and the artwork was NOT deleted (phew!) and was displaying correctly. I was pleased
The amount of "other" megabytes on the display in iTunes for my iPod's contents had shrunk.
I dunno what all this actually did - are the artwork files embedded in the MP4 files on the iPod? Or are they stored seperately and linked to them?
I'm wondering if the "black square" thing is caused by an MP4 having an embedded image, and there also being a conflicting image file elsewhere on the hard drive? But this is just guessing.

  • New Problem with Artwork in iTunes 10

Now with iTunes 10 I can put various .Jpgs in but iTunes will show them in the iTunes artwork window but will only display the first one!

Nope! It keeps several but SOMETIMES displays only one.For example running iTunes 10 on my G5 I imported a few albums from my CDs.I searched for Artwork on Google and found 2 .jpgs One gpr the cover and one for the back cover. On my G5 it only displayed one! On my G4 12" Powerbook also running iTunes 10 I instaaled the same CD using the SAME artwork. It displayed BOTH the front cover as well as the back cover. On the G5 the artwork window in list view shows the arrow but only displays the front cover however in the window it shows both covers.

  • Ipod photo: problem with artwork

It seems that on Itunes, my artowrk is all correct, but on my ipod, the imgaes are jumbled up for some of the albums. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks.

When I try to check the "Display album artwork" box and update my ipod, I get this error message:
The iPod cannot be updated. An unknown error occured (-50).

  • Problem with artwork

I Have a full cd on itunes and for some reason one song will not take the cd artwork, all of the other ones will but this one wont, can anyone help me please?

That drove me nuts too!! find a track that holds the artwork you want and highlight it. Right click on it and choose "Get info" in the dialogue box choose the artwork tab, and right click on the album image; copy. Now, close the dialogue box, highlight all the tracks for that album, right click, choose "get info". It may ask you if you want to choose option for multiple tracks, or something of the like. Say yes. In the new dialogue box there is a window on the right side that says "artwork" Paste the copied image in it. WHALA!

  • Having problems with iPhone coverflow

I have a problem with the iPhone coverflow : some album artworks appear 2 times on coverflow with the same song in the 2 of them, like if i had the song 2 times, and the other thing is that, for example, i normally have 4 songs on that album but on coverflow only 1 of them appears in it.... but when i search for the songs they are all on my iphone, they just don't appear on the album...
So i tried to check and uncheck the songs that had that problem, but it didn't change anything... the weird thing is that on iTunes it doesn't do that just on the iphone..
So i'd like to know if my iphone has some type of problem or if it's iTunes ??

Perform a reset and see if that corrects the problem.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Problem with Coverflow & Artwork

I use to have an ipod Photo and all the songs displayed the artwork properly. I just got a new ipod classic and I'm having several issues:
    1) Albums not showing artwork properly in Coverflow
    2) Songs showing artwork even if the Coverflow does not have an image ( but the file does )
    3) Albums may be repeated .. because of Upper/Lower Case differences .. but when one of this albums is selected .. all songs are included .. also the ones that have different upper/lower case
    4) Albums with just one song & artwork does not display properly .. neither in the coverflow or artwork for the album or song
Does anybody know if the iPod classic compares the images (checksum or something) to display the artwork in coverflow ??
Why can an album with just one artwork and one song not display properly ??
Any other comment that may help would be appreciated.

There seems to be some inconsistency in the iPod's sorting system - as you say differences in casing can trigger multiple covers in the cover flow and album menus. The first step to improved cover flow is to ensure consistency in shared fields across each album, e.g. Album, Album Artist, Part of Compilation, No. of Discs. Sort Album etc.
Annother issue is that iPod cover flow is effectively Album by Artist rather than Album by Album Artist. This can cause multiple covers whenever guest artists are included in the artist listing for a track. There are two possible workarounds:
*Workaround #1* Append *(Feat. Guest)* to track title and change Artist to *Album Artist* whenever Artist != *Album Artist*
*Workaround #2* Change *Sort Artist* to *Album Artist* whenever Artist != *Album Artist* (Works for Album & Cover Flow menus, but has side effects in Album menu)
When you select an album, however all tracks with matching (case insensitve) album titles will be selected, even when the albums are by different album artists. The most common example is Greatest Hits where all the tracks from all the Greatest Hits albums will be listed together under each artist's Greatest Hits album. There are two possible workarounds:
*Workaround #3* Change album title to *Album - Album Artist* whenever the same album title is used by more than one album artist.
*Workaround #4* Append different numbers of spaces to the album title of different albums whenever the same album title is used by more than one album artist.
*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant jpeg images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

  • Coverflow problem with iPhone

I have several problems with the coverflow feature in my iphone:
    1) Some covers does not appear even they are in itunes
    2) Covers are scrambled .. does not corresponde to the actual album .. and they are correct in itunes
    3) In coverflow .. the artwork for an album is incorrect .. since you can see the albums to the side .. when you move to one to the side of the incorrect one and you can just side not the from but the side of the album .. it displays correct .. but not when you see the front cover.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Are you seeing this issue with albums purchased from the iTunes Store?
Have you used any iTunes plug-ins or 3rd-party apps which collect and add album artwork to iTunes?
Try removing the music from the iPhone, just uncheck sync music from the music tab in iTunes, click the advanced option in iTunes and choose Get Album Artwork and then sync the music to the iPhone again.

  • Problems with Cover Flow and Artwork.

    Hey,
this is my first time having iTunes or iPhone/iPod, so I have tons of albums at home. It's no problem to get the music on the phone, but
    1. There is no artwork although all albums are original.
    2. All the songs show up single in CoverFlow. Instead of tapping one album and having the songs appear, they all appear in CoverFlow.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Righty, I'll start with the weird coverflow. Go into itunes and have a look at the song and album titles for your songs. For each album, is each song's album title and artist title the same? If not, select all of the offending songs, right / shift click, select 'get info' and change the album / artist title. This should work
Now, whilst you have the 'get info' window open, select 'Artwork', go to amazon and find the album you are looking at. Grab the album cover and drag to your desktop. Now, drag to the image to the artwork window and you should be all set!
