Problems with audio track when burnt to DVD

Hi there,
I'm using CS4, and have created a 30 minute film which I've exported as an H.264 - it's 653MB. When I play this file from my PC, it's perfect. When I burn it to a data DVD, however, the audio track is interrupted every few seconds with blips of silence - like it's stalling. (I've been unable to burn it as a video DVD so far as the various software I've tried rejects the file format.)
I've burnt it twice on my laptop and once on another desktop with the same results. I urgently need to send the file to a Mac owner - what should I do? Could this be a fault with the file or with the burning software? Perhaps I didn't do something right with the audio track?
I'll greatly appreciate your help!
Thank you :-)

For authoring a DVD-Video, follow Harm's advice and Export to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio.
For a DVD-Data, you should not have an issue with the H.264, BUT some have had problems if using Apple's H.264. Many users find that the Lead, or MainConcept H.264 has fewer issues.
Also, do you have a Matrox card? They have been known to cause Audio issues, so you will definitely want to update any Matrox drivers.
Good luck,

  • Problems with audio tracks

Happily pressing on with my first project when problems arose with audio tracks. Suddenly - when I added video clips I got sound on A2 but nothing showing on A1 (and sound only from right hand speaker). Clips are okay as sound is on both sides when played in Viewer and Canvas just can't add them both to timeline. It was okay up until the point I did my first audio fades within a clip (using the 'elastic bands'). Now I can't even insert a clip with both tracks ahead of that point. A1 just won't accept anything.
Now when I add a clip I only get audio on A3!!!!
Voiceovers all went onto A6 and are okay but is it normal for them to hide down there?
I am sure this is finger trouble on my part as I am so new to FCE but can anyone tell me how to recover?
    Thanks,
    Tom.

Sounds to me like the audio targeting is amiss somewhere.
In the audio tracks you will notice a1 & A1: meaning audio track 1 and the audio will go to that track when edited. To get stereo, two tracks will be used eg. a2 & A2. Having A1 and A2 is FCEs default setting with a1 & a2 selected. This setting will place stereo audio into these default tracks. If, for example, you want the tracks to be edited to A5 & A6 then you move the a1 to a5 and a2 to A6 (click and drag). This is called track targeting for obvious reasons, untill you change it, all new edited tracks go to tracks 5 & 6.
Click on a1 twice, did you notice it move and seperate from A1, this is a de-selected state (a gap between a1 & A1). When a clip is edited to A1 in this state it means no audio will be added to that track. Most likely you have an unlinked audio track. I hope this brief bit of info helps you figure out what audio ends up where in the Timeline.
Regarding recovery, you could try the AutoSave Vault. Go back to a date and time that is before things went wrong and open that project.

  • Problems with Audio Stutter when moving minimizing/maximizing windows

I am using an Emu 1820m (ASIO driver) with AA3.0. I'm using the same ASIO driver mode in both edit and multi-track view.
In multi-track view, I can have several tracks going (i.e., 24 tracks as I type this) and the audio is fairly rock solid. I can go to other programs, move windows around, minimize/maximize windows, etc. and the audio is glitch free. This is while running the Emu 1820m at 48k/24-bit and 2ms latency!
However, in the single edit view, this is another story. When I have an audio playing in the edit view, I get many audio glitches with audio events. The worst is when I minimize/maximize any window (not just AA3). I get a "brzzzzzt" while the window minimizes/maximizes. I can make this stop by disabling animations when minimizing/maximizing windows; however, why does mult-track view behave fine even with animations on?
Also, in single edit view, moving windows around causes a lot of dropouts in audio (but again, not in multi-track view.)
Can anyone shed any light as to what is going on here?
A very extreme case to show the problem even further:
In multi-track view, load up some tracks and play them. Now run dxdiag (while the multi-tracks are playing) and on the display tab, run the Direct3D tests. Even with the Direct3D tests running, the AA3.0 audio plays flawlessly while in multi-track mode. Now, play a file in Edit mode. Do the same test with dxdiag while the file is playing - GLITCH CITY!
This doesn't happen in other audio programs I have (i.e., Sound Forge, Sonar, etc.)
Please, someone, shed some light on this issue!

SteveG, I don't believe it is an 1820m issue at all. Do you have a single or multi-core processor? This behavior did not occur on my old P4 3GHz system. I only started observing it when I built this quad core system about a month ago.
By the way, today I replaced my mobo with one of the same brand and model and the behavior still exists (to rule out a defective mobo.) I've also tried 3 different video cards (although they were all NVIDIA) and the problem remains no matter which card I use.
    Durin,
As I was typing the first post, I verified that I was using the Emu 1820m ASIO driver in both Edit and Multitrack views. (As I was writing it, it crossed my mind that I might have it set to something else in one mode.) However, it is the same in both.
One thing I forgot to mention is that there is one more app that behaves similarly (Reaper). All other apps (Sonar, FL Studio, eXT, Ableton Live, Sound Forge, Wavosaur) do not show this behavior and are rock solid.
If you'd like to see my thread about this behavior in Reaper (and others who can reproduce it) see here: http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19036
I believe Sonar, FL Studio, eXT, Ableton Live, Sound Forge, Wavosaur, etc.. are doing something properly when playing back audio and/or initializing plugins that Adobe Audition and Reaper are failing to do properly with certain hardware configurations.

  • Major Problem with audio from Final Cut to DVd Studio Pro

I am posting this problem again because no further responses have been received regarding my first post. I purchased an MR-HD100 Firestore device from Focus Enhancements. When I use clips from it alone or with other clips created by digitizing from min DV tape on a sequence or timeline the audio works fine in Final Cut. When I import any type of file and believe me I have been trying all kinds of suggestions and wasting almost a dozen DVDs. Whether it be a Final Cut QT file, going straight to compressor and producing an MPEG-2 file and a dolby audio file .ac3 importing them into DVD SP and making the adjustments that MR. Harbsmeier suggested DIAL NORM at -31dbfs and COMPRESSION MODE to NONE, as well as the suggestion to make an aif file with the audio and importing it into DVD SP as well as the video. I get the same result with every try, the clips made with the firestore are so low you cannot hear them. NOTHING WORKS!!!!. And yes I have tried making a DVD with just digitized footage and yes it turned out fine. I called Apple support today and that gentlemen basically told me I am out of warranty so phone help was not available. However, he made a suggestion of changing sequence presets in Final Cut which has now developed into another problem. I have messed up my settings so bad I don't know where I am I can't LOG & CAPTURE in the manner I used to ???? Could someone please advise as to why this problem exists and the correction to resolve it. I do not understand why the audio works fine playing the sequence on the timeline in Final Cut. It plays fine after making a Final Cut QT file. AND it plays fine in simulation mode in DVD Studio Pro. However after you burn a DVD the audio from the firestore clips are not to be heard unless you crank up the speakers or TV to it's maximum level and you can barely make it out. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME Projects are stacking up and was really hoping to go tapeless

Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound?  This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.
What does it say for audio?

  • Different Audio Tracks when you import DVD VOB Files

I imported some vob files from a dvd and it only gives me the first audio track in premiere but i need the 2nd audio track. How do i tell premiere i only want the 2nd track?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Colin Brougham wrote:

If there is no way to get the 2nd audio track then i would consider that to be a bug that hopefully Adobe can fix in next patch.
Ideally when you import a vob fileset premiere should automatically drop all the audio tracks into the timeline, not just the first one.
Don't use a DVD, plain and simple. The fact that we can edit this stuff at all is just a handy shortcut that works most of the time. I suspect that, given the nature of the material and the far greater precedence for native editing of professional camera sources, this is about as good as its going to get. You can certainly report it as a bug (which its not) or request it as a feature, but I sincerely doubt that this would be given a great deal of priority.
I'm not saying this just to be a jerky naysayer: the fact is that there is limited time and resources that go into development of each point release and each full version, and the things that benefit the most people have the greater likelihood of being fixed or included. I'd be surprised if even 1% of Premiere users needed this functionality. Believe me--I've wanted dozens of things that I know won't ever make it into the program, simply because they won't benefit many people. But make a feature request and see what happens...
wow??  what a terrible, mean, and unnecessary negative response?  "jerky naysayer" ??  never heard that term, but it sounds accurate.
Thats like walking up to someone and saying "i dont mean to be cruel, but your fat and ugly"
anyways, not sure what your point is, other than you have a crystal ball that tells you less than 1% of the premiere users in the world ever need to grab a b-roll from a dvd and i think i could find plenty of people who would disagree with you. I have been doing digital video editing for 20 years and been using premiere for about 15 years now i think since it first came out. I work at a tv station with lots of other video editors and we have all needed to pull a clips off dvd's many times in our lives. Im sorry that i dont have an XDCAM HD video tape of the first moon launch to capture, so for now i have to grab a clip from a dvd.
Thanks for your attempted "help" but i'd rather you not hiijack my thread by negating my questions and requests. My company has purchased probably over a million dollars in adobe software licenses over the years and there is nothing wrong with my opinions and requests.
    thanks

  • Problems with audio in quicktime file for dvd authoring

i have converted sequence into quicktime file for burning into dvd. i have am experiencing some problems with voice over which disappers and comes back later in the quicktime file when i play it. this quicktime file is made as self contained movie. I have traced this back to the original sequence in the timeline to a white line or series of line in at the top of the time line. one is for video and the other is for audio. when the first line appears the voice over gets interrupted and audio stops in the quicktime file but its ok in the timeline. when the white line shows again the voice over can be heard again in the quicktime file and audio stops again at the start of another white line. there is no loss of audio in the sequence in the timeline. so please can someone help me understand what the problem is.

thanks tom. i am refering to render bar in the timeline, upper for video and lower for audio. May be i shoud describe them as white line gaps between dark grey or steel grey bar color.
what do you mean by down mixing? please advise

  • Problems with audio track through US-122 in Logic Express

    Hi,
This may be a completely stupid question, but I'm having problems with recording through my Tascam US-122 in Logic Express. I can't get anything to register on the level meter in Logic Express (neither direct input nor microphone input). However, I can get the input from the Tascam to register in the system preferences menu outside of Logic, and can get the built in mic on my IBook to register inside of logic. Does anyone have any ideas for me to try out? I've looked in the manual and I'm supposed to be getting the Logic Express training book soon, but I was hoping to record sooner than that.
    Thanks!
    Shawn J

Sorry, ignore the above. I needed to enable record before the level would show up.

    Hi,
    You are a GUITAR student.
You need not worry about how LOUD your mix is, and should be concentrating on your GUITAR PERFORMANCE...
Here's the hint of the week:
    LOUD not equal to GOOD.
Repeat this as often as necessary until you exorcise the demon of loudness from your mind.

  • Problems with audio panning.

Am having problems with audio tracks. For example: when capturing a clip where a person is talking, there would be 2 tracks of audio - one a radio mic (Track 1) and another mic (Tack 2)capturing ambient sound. I often delete the ambient track (Track 2) and am left with the the main audio from a radio mic (Track 1).
The problem is when I open up the main audio track (Track 1) and pan the audio track from -1 to 0 or even to +1! It says it has done it but the sound still comes out of the left speaker.
It is a very recent problem that I wonder may be something to do with preferences or settings.
We have had no problems with the speakers at all.
    Thanks very much,
    Geoff

You have your audio outputs set to 'dual mono', not 'stereo'.... go to:
Sequence>Settings> 'Audio Outputs' tab > then highlight the 'Stereo' button, then click OK...
    problem solved...

Is there another way to adjust tempo of loops the faster way, any other technique?

No clue why the final processes have suddenly started to take so long. Two things I'd try: a) capture from an older tape to see if some problem with the new tape is at fault.  And b) check the health of your RAM and the hard drive.
The red frame sounds a bit like a glitch we used to have in OnLocation (actually in its predecessor HDV Rack) which was caused by a partial GOP. But that was a product of HDV Rack recording from the live video stream. It turned out that HDV cameras intentionally interrupt the data stream for an instant upon starting to record--specifically to avoid recording a partial GOP to tape. So my gut says that the tape has partial GOPs at the points where you stopped/started recording.

  • Missing audio track when importing video into Premiere Pro CS3

When I import my M2TS video into the editor there is no audio when viewed in the source.  There is also no audio track when I drag a clip down to the timeline.  Any fix for this?

I have the same problem with M2TS files in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. The audio track is there - Adobe Premiere just doesn't recognize it. If you open the same clip in Nero Showtime, Corel Ulead VideoStudio, etc., the audio will be there. The audio is probably multiplexed.
I have been recording High Definition TV using the Hauppauge HD PVR 1212. About 15-20 % of the M2TS files recorded will be seen as video only clips by Adobe Premiere. The remaining clips will be conformed by Premiere and you will have a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. If you convert the video only clips to .MP4 and then re-import them into Premiere you will then have the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track back and you're good to go.
I use either Xilisoft or Arcsoft media converters to change to .MP4 files. If you use Arcsoft you will have to render the clip. The files converted by Xilisoft don't have to be rendered for playback.

  • Problem with Audio on HP Envy 6-1130sw (C6F62EA)

    Hello everyone.
I have a problem with audio on my ultrabook HP Envy 6. Sometimes when I try to play music there are no low tones and music plays really silent... And then when I restart PC problem dissapears and music plays fine... I thought there is a problem with speakers, but when I connected 5.1 speakers there were also only high tones. Same thing happens on headphones. Is it a hardware problem or maybe software? Actually I use Windows 8.1 and drivers are up to date. If any one of you had same problem please post.
    Thanks.

    Hi piotrek1130sw,
From what you have described, I think the best approach would be to restore the original IDT driver, restart the computer, test that driver, then install the driver update, and test the outcome of installing the newest driver.
Use the following link for instructions to recovery the ITD driver using Recovery Manager. Restoring applications and drivers.
Once the driver is restored, restart the computer and test the audio. If the audio is good you can continue to use this driver, or you can reinstall the update and see what happens. IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver.
If installing the newest driver causes the issue to occur but the recovered driver worked, I suggest recovering again.
If neither driver works I will gladly follow up and provide any assistance I can.
Please let me know the outcome.

  • How can I turn off the sound from the original midi  or audio tracks when I turned on the duplicate tracks for editing ?

How can I turn off the sound from the original midi or audio tracks when I edit or listen to the duplicate tracks in Logic Pro 9 ?
I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

    Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps
