Problems with back-p

Tryin gto back-up my hard drive to a firelite 60 Gb external and the process hangs after only about 30 mb's transferred.
The last line in the terminal log file reads:
lsof: WARNING -- child process 1808 may be hung.
Have tried several times after restart etc-same result
Using Super Duper back-up software. Their support says I should do an archive and install......leery of that.
Any suggestions?

I did an Archive and re-install-verified both the external Firelite 60gb drive and Mac HD-no problems shown-repaired permissions. Deleted Garage Band per Super Duper Support tech-and it went further into the back-up but hung up again. Each time I receive a different child process # code "hung"-this time it is "child process 384 may be hung 384"

When you setup the wireless and ethernet in the computer.. ipv6 will be on automatic.. this is wrong for the latest TC firmware and airport utility. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4597
Go to the wireless and ethernet setup in preferences and change ipv6 to link local.
Once you do the big backup by ethernet the wireless will function fine for incremental.. it is obviously not estimating the size correctly..
A full back-up on the iMac would be about 650 GB. The partial updates that I have been trying start out at 115MB and keep growing indefinitely. The original back-up never finished nor have any of the follow-up attempts.
The first estimate should be the full backup but it will keep growing as the backup advances.. I would also delete any inprogress files to make sure it is not messing up .. delete even a sparsebundle if there is one for the imac on the TC and start afresh once you have ethernet connection.
See A10 here.
Pondini may have some other clues there to give you an idea of why the backup is slow or not finishing.. there is a lot of issues with TM when it decides not to work.

OneKey Recovery 6.0. Problem with back up operating system from recovery cd'ies

Hello, i have problem with back up operating system from recovery cdies.
When i acceped start button to backup partition system i get an alert "space not enough"
I had linux before and i whant change it to windows back. i deleted all ext partitions. I have all unlocated space.I shouldnt have problems.

I would use something like Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director to first create a FAT32 partion for your C: Drive where your OS will go and be sure to leave 10GB or so unallocated for the secondary FAT32 Partition where your "factory image" will go.
You then create a Logical Drive with the unallocated space and make it hidden (PM or ADD will do this). Install your OS (preferably Windows XP if you want less problems) and then after you have setup everything the way you want (drivers, applications, etc), then use Acronis True Image to create your "factory restore" image on the hidden partition and activate the Startup Recovery Manager.
This is the way I do it and it works like a charm!

Hard drive died - multiple problems with backed up home folder

My friend called me when she started having some problems with her home iMac. After we did went through a myriad of troubleshooting items, I determined that her hard drive was failing and suggested she backup her home folder immediately to another drive. She copied her home folder over to her old Mac and took the iMac into the Apple Store for further diagnostics. Sure enough, her hard drive had failed and they replaced it for her.
She reinstalled Leopard and set it up with a new account. We tried using the Migration Assistant to copy her old home folder back over but because she copied it rather than using Time Machine, Migration Assistant doesn't see it as a viable home folder. I'm very comfortable using the Terminal since I support both Macs and Linux in my department so I logged in as root and copied over her folders to the new account. That generally worked but we now have a ton of permissions problems of which Disk Utility doesn't fix. I'd like to start fresh again from her backed up home folder. So my question is if I can't use Migration Assistant to move over her old home folder, how do you make OS X see her old home folder as a viable account? (I hope this makes sense.)

I would suggest the following.
make a new temp admin account and get rid of the new account she made already. log in as the temp user and copy the old home folder from the external to /Users. then go to system preferences->accounts and make a new account with the same short user name as the name of her old home folder. It will say that a home directory by that name already exists and ask if you want to use it. say "yes". this should recreate that user and take care of all permissions issues.

Problem with Back button in Top Level Navigation

Hi all,
We are facing a minor problem with the Back button in the Top Level Navigation in Portal. This button is present under the Roles and Worksets menu along with the History, Forward, and Add to Portal Favorites links.
The problem is faced when we have some worksets under a single role. While browsing accross these worksets by randomly clicking on them, we wish to use the Back button as well to go back to the previous workset. But when we use the Back button, the Detailed Navigation panel in the last workset is not retrieved.
I will explain with the System Administration Role. I open the worksets under this role in the following manner:
First I open Transport;
Next I open Portal Display;
Next I open System Configuration;
Now I wish to go back to Portal Display workset by clicking on the Back button. But when I do this, although the Portal Display workset opens up, but I cannot see the Detailed Navigation Panel. See the screenshot below:

Problem with "back" on Safari

Hi,
I´m having problem with my Safari. When i hit back or swipe on my trackpad to go on the site i just browsed, the Safari diplays an older version of the site, usually 1-2 days older. For example: When browsing news sites i get 24 hrs old news :-) To fix this i have to refresh the page but that´s really annoying all the time. I´ve seen this problem here on this community but no repair or sollution of this problem.
Please help me, i don´t want to go to Chrome or something :-)

i dont think we are talking about the same issue here, my english is maybe not so good(i´m in iceland)
my pages load allright, but just old pages and sometimes this happens and sometimes not. I restarted my notebook and deleted my cache and history and that fixed the problem(obviously, since there are no old pages to load in the memory).
But i´ve been reading here on support community and many have this problem but no fixes in sight. I dont want to delete everything constantly, so this remains a mystery.

Having problem with back button on

The bottom left hand button on the Zen Micro won't seem to work correctly unless it is charged into the power adapter. I've tried the clean up mode but that didn't do anything, is there anything else that I can do other than rebooting it because I would hate to have to go through the whole method of inporting my music back on there cause it takes hours. Please give me any advice you have!

Sound problems with back line out port

Hey everyone, I just sent an email to MSI Tech Support, but figure I would post a message here as well. I just put together a new system, but I'm having a problem with the back line out port.
My problem: When I plug in the front panel audio connectors (Left Audio Out, Left Audio Return, Right Audio Out, Right Audio Return) in the motherboard on pins 5-6 and 9-10 of JAUD1, the back line out does not work properly. I get sound on only the right speaker of the headphones.
More info:
- Audio Driver: 5.10.0.5620 (from MSI CD)
- If I instead plug the headphones on the front audio line out, then sound is fine
- Here's the strange part, if I unplug the front audio connectors from the motherboard (and short pins 5-6, 9-10 with the jumpers, obviously), then the sound on the back line out works properly!
- My Windows sound settings are fine
Has anyone heard of this problem? Any ideas/suggestions of what I could try?
Could this be a defective board? Could it be bad wires on the case? Seems unlikely since both back line out and front line out work depending on what I have setup.

I appreciate the reply, but I believe you are wrong. Yes, I have searched the forum and did find that thread. Yes, I have read the manual. The only thing that it says is: "If you don't want to connect to the front audio header, pins 5 & 6, 9 & 10 have to be jumpered in order to have signal output directed to the rear audio ports. This can't be ByDesign. Either my board is defective or MSI is not following the Intel Front Panel I/O Connectivity Guide correctly. The whole point of having 4 wires for the front panel audio ports, 2 of the wires being Aud_Ret_R and Aud_Ret_L, is so that the audio signal is sent to the front line out and _returned_ to the back line out if nothing is plugged in the front line out.
I have an IBM machine with an intel mobo at work and it works as mentioned in the design guide.
Any other ideas, anyone? I can still RMA my motherboard, but it's a design issue, i guess I'm stuck. I never got an automated reply from MSI Tech Support, so I guess my email never went through. I'll send another email and let the forum know of the results.

Problem with backing up my FCPX file

Hi all,
my FCPX "library file" is 1.5 terrabyte and I can't back it up. Every time I try and do it, it stops after approximately 100 gigabytes (the HD I'm trying to copy it to has more than enough free space. It's between two 4TB G-raids with approximately 2GB free on each. My computer harddrive has 215GB free space). The file works just fine in terms of opening and working with but I can't back it up. This is really scary since I've already spent 4 months of work on this. Does anyone know of other ways it can be backed up other than just copying the library file to another harddrive? Or has anyone had the same problem and found a workaround to at least back up all the timelines?
It seems very strange to me it's all just an ENORMOUS file and no folders, editing files, etc to back up separately for security. Or have I missed something?

No, I didn't optimize any media though I've rendered proxies for all media. I have about 14TB of R3D footage on five external harddrives, it's a feature. The proxies and sound files which I copied to the library makes the library file that big. I can't consolidate all media, as far as I know, since I don't have a drive even close to the size of all the R3D footage.
In terms of copying I have only tried the good old "copy/paste" method. I have never used any of those programs you mentioned. Can those programs be used to copy certain files or will they copy an entire drive?
Will the automatic back-ups FCPX does every 15 minutes save my timelines if something would go wrong and the library file would dissappear? I don't fully understand how that back-up process works. I could always render new proxies, though it would take time, but re-editing all those timelines is a whole other thing. Important to note here is that I'm used to Premiere Pro and the "old" FCP which is why all of this is so confusing.

Problem with Back and Next Buttons: a solution?

Hello,
It is well known that including the Back and/or Next buttons in Captivate quiz questions presents real problems. I have come up with what I think to be a solution. It should allow one to include both Back and Next buttons, if one wants to do this. It involves doing the following:
With Question 1, do not include a Back button. (This is so that the quiz-taker cannot get out of the quiz scope in the forward direction.)
Create this advanced action: If cpQuizInfoTotalUnansweredQuestions = 0, then Go To The Next Slide (i.e. the results slide); Else Continue.
Insert a slide after the final question (and before the results slide). On this slide, include the following:
A message to this effect: ‘You have not answered all of the questions. Please go back and complete all of them.’
A button labeled ‘Return to Questions’ (on success: Jump to slide with Question 1). But include no other buttons. That is, if the quiz-takers lands up on this slide, he or she has only this option.
On Enter (i.e. on entering the slide being described here), Execute Advanced Action = the advanced action described in Item 2 above.
Now for something odd. Before the slide described in Item 3, insert a slide with a Text Caption with variable $$cpQuizInfoTotalUnansweredQuestions$$. Keep the slide as brief as possible (something like 0.5 sec.) and make the text of the Text Caption invisible. And why all this? Because I found that, without it, problems arose quite regularly. If one or more questions were not answered, the quiz-taker would come, as expected, to the slide described in Item 3 above. The quiz-taker would then go back to complete the unanswered questions. But then—sometimes—the Item 3 slide would still appear, even though all the questions were answered! The quiz-taker would return once again to the questions (since this is the only option available), only to find that now none of the questions were answered! And at this point, there was no escape: the Item 3 slide would always appear no matter what one did. Why should inserting the additional slide described in the present item solve the problem? I don’t know. All I can say is that (1) without it, the problem arises often (though not always), and (2) with it, the problem hasn’t occurred yet, even though I’ve done lots of testing.
Final note. It will be clear that this solution is meant to be used together with the option Allow Backward Movement. Will the solution work with Branch Aware? I don’t know yet. Will it work with Question Pools? Again, I don’t know yet. I’ve only done a bit of testing in both cases. The results thus far indicate that at least one of these options presents real problems. Both might.
I’m still testing this solution (or what I hope is a solution). If anyone else wants to try it, I’d be interested in hearing how it goes.

1. 'I don't get it why you don't use the Submit All option?'
Submit All is fine in some cases. But it limits the options: the quiz-taker does not get immediate (question-by-question) feedback. So where immediate feedback is wanted, the Submit All option presents problems.
2. "Why do you need a Back button . . . ?'
a. The Back button is needed during Review. Otherwise, the quiz-taker can only review in one direction.
b. In some quizzes, the quiz-taker should be free to go back, whether to check earlier question slides (since the questions and/or responses can be relevant for the current question) or to re-read/re-hear information slides inserted between question slides.
But the more general issue is this. The Cp Back and Next buttons provide us with possibilities, with further options. Workarounds are available, such as not allowing backward movement and placing a Clear button over Next. But these workarounds limit the possiblities, i.e. the possibilities that are there—i.e. that Adobe puts there. It's not that we always need these possibliities. But neither should we be hindered from using them if we so choose—and especially when we would be hindered simply because Cp doesn't work as well as it should.

Multiple Video Tracks Problem with Back Button

Hi,
I am making a DVD that has to contain 16 films. Unfortunately the videos don't have the same aspect ratios, so I have to create one video track for each film.
When the DVD is started they are supposed to play all in a row (no menus). So the end action for each track is to jump to the first chapter of the next track.
My problem is that once I am playing, say, track 5, there is no way to get back to track 4 with the "back button" on the remote control.
Do I have to script this? And if yes, how?

That is exactly my problem. Chapter markers only work on the same track, for some reason you can't jump to a chapter in a different track. What I need is a solution to jump from a track to the previous one when pressing the back button on the remote.
As I wrote before I can't use just one track for all films, because they have different aspect ratios.

Servlet Problem with Back Button on IE

Hello All:
This is a weird problem I am facing on IE.
I have a servlet which is invoked by the doGet() method. This servlet
has a FORM which has few fields. One of the field has a hyperlink which
makes a window.open() call for Onclick. This pop-up allows a user to
search for some value. The result of the search is displayed in a
SELECT box. Based on the value selected in this SELECT box, the field
in the servlet that called this pop-up gets populated. After this is
done, I close this pop-up & click on the proceed button of the FORM
(using POST) which takes us to another servlet. Then when I click on
the back button, the fields on the form which were populated are gone.
I have made the following analysis:
(i) On clicking the back button, a request is sent to the server.
(ii) It works on FireFox & not on IE
(iii) If I do not use the hyperlink to bring the pop-up, and then I
click on proceed and then back, the fields do not vanish.
(iv) I tried using http://www.google.com to the call on window.open().
Does not help
(v) The very action of using pop-up by clicking on it causes this
problem
(vi) I tried replacing the hyperlink with a button. It did not work.
Any help or tips in this regard would be helpful.

I dont know how you can post on the back button, and am a bit confused as to why you need to go back, you would normally want to go forwards :).
What I would do is have the same servlet handle both cases.
I would make 1 servlet SUBMIT TO ITSELF.
You may have to pass an additional parameter to indicate whether this is the initial / first request, or a subsequent request where the servlet has re-submitted back to itself.
If you want to disable the back button you can use javaScript

I used this when I found that users could use the back button and re-submit when I didnt want them to, kind of the opposite of your problem!

BDC problem with back button

i have idoc number in alv output.when the user clicks on this ,it should take the control to BD87 transaction with idoc number getting transferred there .also BD87 screen has changed on select option where the default is sy-datum .i need to clear this along with transfer of idoc number.
i tried using submit statement,but its not working.
then i used call transaction in error mode to acheive this functionality and i was sucessful.

So,the control directly takes me inside the BD87 screen just after the screen which we get after execting the selection screen of bd87 with idoc details
the problem is whn i click on back button or F3,the control does not take me back to the ALV output screen rather it takes me to the selection screen of BD87.
So,any way out to solve the back button problem???

That's a really tough report to handle by submit.
You can try to call the transaction in error mode and place one moment to force the screen to appear. Then complete the BTCI with the last steps to exit the selection screen.
Try it like this:

i have very strange kind of problem , i have a page where i am shwing tabular data with data scroller , thats work fine , in this tabbular data we are shing user infomration , and a link on user name ti see his details , this link works fine , and take user to user details page ,
but from that page if user press back button , and reaches back to tabbular data page , in this page if user select any link , page reloads , and stay there , and after reloading page if user select any link then it works
Any one geting this kind of preoblem , hope i am not alone
