Problems with bootcamp on Mac mini (Mavericks) late 2009

Hi all!
The problem I encounter is that I get an error message saying that the files aren't available on the software update server (?). I don't get to the point where to partition the hdd or in my case the ssd.
I have tried with an external 500 gb hdd (FAT formatted in the mac mini) and with windows on a dvd but it doesn't work. I use 64-bit win7 ultimate, but can use any win7 version as long as it works. The mac has 160 gb ssd, 4 gb ram, dvd-drive, connected to the internet.
Can and would some kind soul help me get past this problem?
The error message loseley translates (from swedish to english) into: Can't install the software since it isn't available on the software update server right now.
Regards
Pierre

Ok. I now have downgraded to Mac OSX 10.6, made all the software updating and now i get to the partitioning part. Yay! But since bootcam now is 3.0.4 the win7 64 dvd won't boot. I suspect I need the 4.0.4 version of bootcamp to make that work. This is now undergoing.
If anyone can offer an explanation for this tedious task to get wn7 64 on the computr, please feel free to spek your mind. I know I would like to with some guys at apple...

  • Problems with wrt610n and mac mini (MA206LL/A*)

i purchased a new wrt610n and one of the machines that is connected is a mac mini, 1.66 ghz intel core duo.
#ma2066/ll/a for those who want to compare notes. the computer is stock with the 802.11g wireless card
that came with the machine. it is running the current software and all the updates are up to date.
    i am using wpa 2 personal w / aes
their is some kind of incompatibility or issue between the wrt610n and the mac mini.
either using the wireless connection OR connected directly to the router, web pages are very slow to load. sometimes it can take
up to 45 seconds for the mac mini to open up a webpage. for 45 seconds it is at 'contacting website'
when  i try to run software update, i get a time out error -1001, make sure you can connect to the internet and try again.
hulu desktop is also running slow.
copying a file from the mac mini to a another computer over wifi averages about 1 mb/s
when i informed linksys about this problem, they took my phone number and said that a linksys technician / senior tech support employee
would call me back. that was a day or so ago. i asked if i can have any newer firmware, considering the latest is 5 months old.
i am considering returning this router, but i don't see a lot of good alternatives that have similar features. i have 21 days to return this. the restocking fee will be 15% i am also considering various 802.11n solutions for the mac mini, even including the dell 1500 wireless mini card, i heard it works as an airport card.
if i do get a different model router i would like external antennas.
my previous router was a 5 year old wrt54gs version 2.0, and it never had a problem with any of the computers with the network.
the trouble shooting steps involved changing the beacon to 75 and the mtu to something else, i forgot. it did not make a difference.
i moved the mini and connected it wired to the wrt610 and turned off the airport wireless card and there was no improvement.
when i disconnected the wrt610n and connected the mac mini directly to my dsl modem. the issues were suddenly gone.
theres some kind of problem with this particular unit. and i would like to hear from others who have solved this or are experiencing
    the same probem

  • Problem with en0 on Mac Mini (mid 2011)

    Hi all!
I have a strange issue with the network (en0) on my Mac Mini: it just stops working after a seemingly random amount of time.
I found this line in the system log (repeated hundreds of times):
    Mar 30 20:52:20 Kandinsky kernel[0]: AppleBCM5701Ethernet [en0]:        1        4 timeoutOccurred - logic error in eed/low-power cycling.  fReady, fSleepState
Any suggestions as to what may be causing this? Maybe a hardware issue?
    Thanks for your insights!

Hi Dirk, some things to try...
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
(SMC reset=  Shut down, disconnect power cord for 10 seconds, reconnect power cord, wait 5 more seconds, turn computer back on)
but it is slightly different:   (PMU REST = Shut computer down, disconnect power cord for 10+ seconds, reconnect power cord WHILE SIMULTANEOOUSLY PRESSING POWER BUTTON, let off power button for a few seconds, then press power button again to restart the mac mini.)
See if it's related to this...
It also seems to be related to later OSX versions, like 10.8.x & 10.9.x
The 2012 macs (and later apparently) (also later OSX versions on earlier Macs can do it also), not waking normally from sleep after hours being in sleep. (noted here ...

The sleepimage file still reappears even if never slept. Delete it (hibernate off, etc) - within minutes its back.

  • Mac Mini Server (Late 2009) - Won't boot from Windows USB/DVD

    Hello all,
I have a Late 2009 Mac Mini Server (Macmini 3,1) with OS X Lion.
I have created a Bootcamp Windows Partition on one the 500GB Disk using Bootcamp 4.0.
After the partition is created, I have tried installing Windows 7 using the Bootable USB method as well as using the CD Drive from the attached SuperDrive.
But all I encounter is either the blinking cursor or after the "Starting Windows" logo, a BSOD.
Any tips/help on how to proceed?
    Thanks in advance.

    Cattus,
    Thanks for the reply.
I did use BC to create the USB stick. I also tried to create the USB on a WIndows Machine (just in case). But still can't boot from USB. What's the WIndows Utility you mentioned?
Also, according to the this LINK, The firmware for Macmini 3,1 should be MM31.0081.B06 (EFI 1.2).
However, the BOOT ROM info on my mac mini says MM31.00AD.B00 and I can't seem to update the EFI Firmware. I get a message "This computer does not need this update" when I try to run the MacminiEFIupdate.pkg

  • How do I install windows 7 with bootcamp on Mac mini from USB

I have read every help thread and tried them all but nothing seems to work.  Here is what I've tried.
    1.  Running each step in bootcamp multiple times and individually.
    2.  Two different ISO files downloaded from the win7 community.  Links I found on these forums.
    3.  When the "no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" is on the screen I have tried a hard wired keyboard.
    4.  I've tried every USB slot on the machine.
    5.  Shocking myself with a dog collar to get a bright idea.
Nothing has worked, especially 5.  If someone can see what I am doing wrond or knows a way to fix it, please let me know.

have you tried rebooting holding the alt key and booting into your windows drive?

  • 3D Vision via bootcamp on Mac mini (continued)

    Hi
Before I read this archived thread,
3D Vision via bootcamp on Mac mini
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2545736?start=0&tstart=0
I downloaded the latest NVIDIA driver 285.62 for my Mac mini server
    (2010,GeForce 320M graphic chip)
    for testing hdmi 1.4a frame-packing 3D output under windows7 x64 Boot Camp.
First time,I tried the NVIDIA driver with “recommended install” option,
then it output black screen, I can’t do anything,
so I entered the safe mode,
recover to the origin driver come with Boot Camp 4.01.
I find some suggestion from someone’s experience by Google,
second time, I tried the “Custom install-whole new install”
(or something like this, I did it under international version),
it passed the part where first time fail,
It seems OK then installation completed and reboot.
    After reboot,
I can’t enter the boot camp partition by pressing “option”during restart,
The list of choosing HDs or recovery HD option not shown at all,
    it just boot into OSX,
I can still see boot camp partition under “Finder”,
but boot camp is gone under Startup Disk control panel.
After repair procedure of Disk Utility,
the boot loader still not shown
& boot camp still gone under StartupDisk control panel.
The driver seems damaged the boot partition table.
I think I need to re-create the Boot Camp partition
    and re-install windows 7 again!
    Above is my foolish experience.
    The question is:
Is there anything I can try to recover my boot loader?
What’s the version of driver successfully support 1920x1080 24p 3D output?
Is the newest NVIDIA driver 285.62 available for mac mini
by modded.inf method mentioned from the archived discussion?
    Thank you~

After updating NVidia driver newer than 267.76,
I got black screen after Windows Logo shown during reboot.
    After countless annoying tests,
I installed the newest NVidia 285.79 driver without problem finally.
    My original prefered display configuration:
link the primary monitor with HDMI port
I already followed the GeForce Driver Installation Guide, step by step,
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=169555
but there's still black screen after reboot.
THEN, I TRIED TO USE mini-DISPLAY PORT INSTEAD AND REBOOT AGAIN,
video signal was connected to my DELL 2707W(only DVI port)
by MiniDP to HDMI adapter/HDMI-DVI cable.
The display is NORMAL NOW !!
    Root Cause assumption:
Maybe the driver newer than 267.76 always regard miniDP as primary signal output port,
even if you set the HDMI port as primary.
I think this is a serious bug, but no solution after mote than 30 driver updating.
The following configuration worked on my Mac mini 2010 system:
    mini─miniDP to HDMI adapter─
    HDMI cable to HDMI splitter─┬HDMI-DVI cable─Dell 2707
                                                  └HDMI cable─ 3D projector
but I found that the configuration can't play 3D video...
So I changed the configuration to:
    Mac─miniDP to HDMI adapter─HDMI-DVI cable─Dell 2707
          └HDMI cable─ 3D projector
    For your reference.

  • Using External Boot Drive with New Intel Mac Mini

I have a 1st Gen MacMini and use an external 7200 RPM Lacie drive as the system boot drive along with all the applications.
If I were to purchase a new Intel Mac Mini, is it possible to use the current external drive as the system drive or is there some conversion steps that would be necessary ?
    Thank you.

You can use the hardware, but will have to repartition and reinstall the OS from the disk shipped with the new Mac Mini.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303220
If you create a disk image of the Lacie on your Mini, you can later use setup assistant to restore users and applications from that image.

  • Mac mini server (late 2012) - mLion 10.8 - hangs on startup

Just got a Mac Mini server late 2012 running mLion 10.8...out of the box...I was setting up my Server and the Wiki & profile manager went out. I surfed around and found a wipe solution (/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/devicemgr/backend/wipeD B.sh) through terminal which did work. Later on they went out again after changing my host name or some ip options for the server but my Open directory started erroring as well. Tried to do the terminal thing and I got a error. So I shut-down and restart only to get the pinwheel screen. Tried safe mode (shift) to no avail. Then to lion recovery (cmd+r) which open the terminal and disk utility. ok. But from here I'm lost. I found somethings to check like fsck and chmod 775, checking/verify permissions but they didnt get it. I'm thinking its a permissions problem but I'm not sure. Any thought on what to check out from here?

6 hr reboot of mLion thru the cmd-r start up worked...it took me back down to 10.8.1 from 10.8.2...just had to reload some apple updates to the server.app and java....maybe some other things too...anything on mLion prolly...not sure yet, but all my apps and files were still there...
*The reboot didn't fix Profile Manager or Wiki in the server.app but it did get me back online and OD is ok again...
*Sifted some articles about the OD, wiki, PM stuff and my problem is similar to this https://discussions.apple.com/message/20561662#20561662
So...this thread is prolly in the wrong place srry bout that...Here's a link to the lion server board.

  • Is Anyone else having problems with their I MAC 24" Foggy display?

Is anyone else having problems with their I MAC 24" having a foggy display in lower right hand corner after the computer has been on for 30 or 45 min? This is now the 2nd computer that has this same problem. Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue with the IMAC 24"? Does anyone know what might be the cause? I have only had the computer for a month. Thanks very much.

Thank you for the nice welcome.
Sorry about posting in the wrong area I found the correct discussion board. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7998535#7998535
Its seems that I am not alone in my problem but I do have good news to report that apple support has acknowledged the issue is happening and a fix is in the works. The support and assistance I received today helped greatly to restore my faith in apple product satisfaction.
Lets hope you don't have this experience in the future, hopefully a solution can be reached that is in everyone best interest. I may have to drive a greater distance to another apple store but for myself and others like me feel its worth the extra effort to get better customer service in the long run.

  • Problem with facetime for mac

hello guy! I've got a problem with facetime for mac.My sister has a I-pod touch fourth generation with factime but i cna't phone her a message come on my mac.It say "xxx can't receive facetime's calls"!Can you help me??

    Thanks, Dah•veed.
I did see mention of using Google Public DNS while I was searching the forums prior to posting, but to be honest didn't think it was a DNS-related problem.
However, to rule it out I've set the prefered DNS servers on my router to Google's, but FaceTime still disconnects after 4-5 seconds when calling between me and my brother-in-law.  It doesn't matter who initiates the call.
As a test, before I made the changes to my router, I logged into FaceTime as him on my MBP and tried calling myself on my iMac, and that was successful.
The same test between the two iMacs when they were here was unsuccessful, so now I'm definitely thinking it's something on the '08 iMac.
Now I just need to figure out what...

  • Problem with Twitter for Mac notifications

    Hello,
I have a strange problem with Twitter for Mac. On both my home and office Macs. New posts appear in app window but there aren't any notifications even though notifications are set in preferences to show in both dock and menubar. Perhaps anyone noticed similar strange behaviour? I didn't find anything similar on Twitter forums.

go to Terminal and post this:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/support/lsregister -kill -seed
if it doesn't have that specific directory try this:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -seed
once the scanning is done (can be short or long, depends on how heavy your system is) RESTART the computer.
when you're back, go to Apple>system preferences>extensions.... guess who's there.
    I hope it helped.
