Problems with browsing on Safari and Firefox since Leopard upgrade ??

Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, I am experiencing consistent problems while browsing. Both Firefox and Safari stall when I click on links or try to load pages. The browsers just appears dead and the loading icons just stall. Firefox is much worse than Safari with every 3rd or 4th click causing a stall. I have to wait about a minute before the click is recognized and the page is loaded.
I thought it might be my airport connect but I have other Windows comps on the same network and they don't have the problem.
I haven't seen any thread in the Safari discussions about this and can't find anything on the net about it either.
Anyone know what the problem might be?
Safari 3.1.1
Firefox 2.0.0.14
Leaopard 10.5.2

There were no error messages in the console for the stalling. However after I plugged the ethernet cable into the Imac, the problem seems to have gone away.
This is good but how can I fix the problem with my airport wireless connection ?

  • Adobe Interactive Forms with Browser Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox

    Hi Experts,
    We have a requirement to implement HCM P&F using Adobe Interactive Forms. These Adobe Forms will be accessed using Browser Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox. I have come across that the Adobe Interactive Forms are not supported on these browsers. In the same regard I have also gone through the Product Availability Matrix by SAP which specifies that Forms are not support on these browser and neither SAP has future plans to support them.
    PAM can be found on link:          http://service.sap.com/pam
    I would like to know from experts that if any of the project has successfully implemented Adobe Interactive Forms with browser Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox or
    is there any solution which can make these forms work successfully on browser Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox.
    Your early reply will be highly appreciated.
    thanks
    Manoj

    Hello,
    Mozilla Firefox is supported for Adobe Interactive Forms on Windows operation system.
    Unfortunatelly we do not have support for Mac OS and Safari browser.
    Please re-check the PAM.

  • Problems with App store, iTunes and iCloud since Mavericks

    Hello,
    Since upgrading to Mavericks I've been having problems signing into iCloud and can't access the iTunes store. I also can't access or sign in to the app store, which obviously means I won't be able to get software updates either.
    I've tried a few things to fix the problem, including a fresh install, but nothing has worked so far.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    I know safari is mac's native browser. Since updating to OSX10.9, I have not been able to open safari. Firefox works fine but I preferred safari. Safari just won't open, it acts like it wants to, but the progress bar goes about half way across and stops. What other information do I need to supply?
    This is a very frustrating problem when I see that there are updates to apply, but am unable to open the app store to get them. I can't even see them.
    IT, in my opinion, has almost thrown in the towel since they are more PC-based.I believe it is a connection problem but they have been unable to fix it. They blame mac for a hasty upgrade release that was not fully tested to see if there were any Mac/PC connection issues.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Problem with fibre channel card and raid system after upgrading to 10.4.7

    Hello, I have a problem with our Xserve G4 DP. After the installation of 10.4.7 everything works fine exept our fibre channel card. This card is connected to a Hitachi Raid System which worked fine over a year. But after the update the volume was no longer mounted. I even reinstalled the server to 10.4.4 and no sign of our raid volume. Using the apple fibre channel utiltiy 2.0, I see that there is a connection - but still the raid volume is not mounted. When I restart the server the lights on the back of the card are shortly flickering and sending some packets to the raid system but that´s all. Has anybody an idea?

  • Problems with Facebook on safari and chrome

    Since a few days i am unable to view Facebook on Safari or Chrome.
    Just lines with text but no images only question marks.
    On top of that unable to open Firefox ( says Unexisting Profile)

    Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
    If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Problem with 2009.02 torrents and firefox (firefox bug ?)

    when i download any torrent files for 2009.02 with firefox (simply cliking on the link of the torrent), i end up with an empty file with 400 permission. (in /tmp)
    i need to use "download link target here" to get a valid torrent file. (i even have to do it twice ??)
    so i guess it's a bug in firefox ?
    or something is wrong on the ftp site of archlinux ? why the torrent are not provided via http ?

    Wow, that's weird. I just tried it and the links really don't seem to be working. It's not a Firefox bug, though. I'm sure because I downloaded the i686 Core ISO earlier today without a problem. Is the server the .torrents are hosted on down or something?
    By the way, I have an unrelated question about seeding: I have no need for anything other than the i686 Core ISO, but should I download the other files just to seed? I have a really good upload speed, and I'd like to give back to the community any way I can.

  • Problems with Menu Bar Vertical and Firefox

    The menu bar looks fine in IE.  When viewing in Firefox the submenus are not displaying correctly.  I can only see the edge of them. Please help!
    Thanks Mary
    www.cwa1118.com

    Mary,
    You have added overflow: hidden; to one of your menubar styles. That is why the submenus are, well, hidden!
    Go to this rule and get the hidden overflow out of the stylesheet:
    ul.MenuBarVertical li
         margin: 0;
         padding: 0;
         list-style-type: none;
         font-size: 100%;
         position: relative;
         text-align: left;
         cursor: pointer;
         width: 12em;
         background-color: #FFFFFF;
    /*               overflow: hidden;     delete this */
    /*     border-color: #000;
    */     outline-color: #333;
         outline-style: none;
         outline-width: thin;
         border-top-color: #000;
         border-right-color: #000;
         border-bottom-color: #000;
         border-left-color: #000;
         border-top-style: none;
         border-right-style: solid;
         border: 000000;
         border-bottom-style: solid;
         border-left-style: solid;
         border-top-width: thin;
         border-right-width: thin;
         border-bottom-width: thin;
    The reason this hides the submenus is because submenus are lists nested in the top menu items. By their nature, they overflow from the extent of the top menu. By hiding them, the only part that shows up is the small portion that lies within the extent of the top menu item.

  • Problems with conference calls(adding and merging calls) after upgrade to ios 8.1.2 on iphone 5s

    I am having weird problem intermittently with adding calls or merging them or swapping them. The issue happens 8 out of 10 times whenever I try to do a conference call. This issue came up after I upgraded to 8,1.2. Never experienced this in 8.1.1 or previous version.
    Some of the scenarios that I have experienced is:
    1. While on the call, when I try to add a new contact, it just doesn't dial the second number.
    2. Sometimes the second number gets dialed, cannot merge the calls.
    3. After talking to the second person, cannot go back to the first call.
    I am very sure that this is not a carrier issue as it worked flawlessly before upgrade.
    Anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the above infromation. I did a complete restore of my iphone through iTunes connecting it to my computer via cable. iOS8.1.3 was re-installed. I then added back my settings and data which were backed up prior to restoring the phone. I still have the same issue with conferencing and adding a third caller. When I hit the [+] box, the existing caller is not put on hold. The phone appears to be making a call but it is not dialing to the 3rd party. Shortly thereafter, the Merge icon appears but there is no active call to merge with. I have tried this several times using my wife's iPhone and our home phone to set up a 3-way call. I know it is not working because the 3rd phone (our home phone) does not ring. Is this a hardware problem? My wife's iPhone 6 works with no problem and was purchased the same time I purchased my iPhone 6. Probably time for a visit to the Apple Store unless there is another solution.

  • Safari and Firefox seem to have issues with Flash?

    Hi - in the past few days every time I try to view a website with video, both Safari and Firefox hang with the beachball and I have to force-quit. I tested to see if it was just taking a long time to load, and it was still the same after an hour. I've read on this forum that Snow Leopard and Flash have some issues, and I've done everything suggested: un-installed Flash then re-installed the latest version, cleared out Safari cache and reset Safari, repaired disk permissions...I am at a loss. Any ideas are appreciated!

    Hi,
    Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
    Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
    If Safari still crashes, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • Command + R (Refresh) not working in Safari and Firefox need Help!

    I been having trouble with Command + R (Refresh) in Safari and Firefox for a while, I used to have a MBP 2006 intel 2.4 running Leopard when the problem started,but since I was planning to change to a new computer I didn't pay much attention.
    Recently I got a MBP w/ Retina and migrated the info from my old Mac to the new one, and it seem like the Command + R problem to refresh in Safari and Firefox has been brought with the migration.
    Another pointer is that I have my mac setup in Spanish although it was setup in English before. This does not seem to be the problem.
    Any Ideas on how can I solve this?
    Than in advance.

    Recently Safari started slowing and presenting the infamous spinning wheel of death whenever page has anything flash in it. Since many pages have ads coming in on flash many pages are effected. I almost thought that I had a virus on machine, being a PC guy for 20 plus year prior you can get, pun intended, flashbacks of deadly blue screen etc. Was happening on both my machines readily apparent on homepage msnbc and the like. I cleared caches etc etc infinitum thought I was back on Windows for a minute. I know from listening to various Mac tech shows on twit.tv that Apple apparently is not fond of flash programming as evidenced that flash not on Itouch or Ipad. But what, trying to kil it on regular machines?
    When I first came to apple a couple years ago I was using Google Chrome browser on MSFT macines and loved it but atthe time Chrom did not make Mac version. I used Safari and was happy enough UNTIL LATELY with it not to bother with other browsers. NO MORE, so went hunting and happily found that Chrome for Mac available. AMAZINGLY no problems so far msnbc loads, without exaggeration, TEN times faster than on safari, no spiining wheels of death EVERYTHING faster like someone gave my Mac's a B12 shot and restored them to how they used to be. Easily transferred all favorites over simple import.
    So far only down side I have found was that bank statement pdf downloads and the like that Safari had bottom screen popup to one click download not on Chrome and print to pdf doesn't seem to do it right so far but I amstill playing. So when I do bank statements I fire up Sarari and suffer the speed.
    There is no reason for this APPLE!!! If you are not going to have Safari be the best browser out there for a mac then you should dump it and recommend sometghign else. Please don;t be like MSFT and Internet Explorer junk!

  • Slow responce for MAX OS mail, safari and firefox

    Hi,
    I have a puzzeling problem.
    I have a IMAC intel late 2007 nov with 4gb ram and a 1TB harddisk (850GB disk free space)
    With SnowLeopard and have run all software updates.
    My problem is that mail, safari and firefox are running slow. But as I also have Parelles Desktop 6 I checked my Windows connection, and to my surprice my win explorer is running at normal speed. I then thought it was an issue with my Parallels configuration, but everything is set up with "run MAC faster" and I only dedicate 500mb ram for Windows so I stil have 3,5 GB ram for the MAX OSX.
    It is not a boardband issue as I also run a macbookpro on same broardband with no problem.
    I have tried to clean the mac with Macclearner and run antivirus. But still the 3 internet broadband programs Safai Firefox and mail through MAC OSX is runnning slow.
    I hope someone can help me with fixing toe problem.
    Best regards
    Mads

    Mads,
    It's possible your problem is being caused by the very products you are using to prevent problems, in other words the antivirus software and MacCleaner app. OS X does not need any third party maintenance software, in many instances such software tend to create more issues than they solve. I would STRONGLY recommend following the manufacturer's recommendations for removing both apps. Then empty the trash and do some basic trouble shooting using the tools built into OS X. The first thing I'd do is when the computer runs slow already have Activity Monitor open and check to see if a) how much FREE RAM  it has and b) look to see if there are any processes using a large %CPU. Your computer should have at least 500MB of FREE RAM at all times. If it runs low that will slow it down. What tends to use a lot of RAM are browsers, if you have lots of tabs open that will eat RAM like crazy. In that situation manage the amount of open tabs and restart the browser.
    If you cannot track down the issue the next thing to do is restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible this is your problem one or more have become corrupted. I had this happen just yesterday, I noticed my system was running very slow and did a Safe Mode restart and bingo it's running like a new computer again.

  • Safari and Firefox do not open search engines

    I have an IMac 8.1, with OS 10.5.8.  Recently, our internet browser programs (safari and firefox) will not open any search engine (google, bing or yahoo).  However, I am able to navigate to web-sites that I manually type in (e.g., www.cnn.com). Does anyone know what the cause, and fix, to this issue?  Also, this behavior did coincide with a recent update to our Intego Antivirus software, but I think this is unrelated.
    Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks,

    Also, this behavior did coincide with a recent update to our Intego Antivirus software, but I think this is unrelated
    Maybe not. Most, if not almost all, anti-virus software interferes with OS X and is not required.
    Try installing Glims:
    If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
    http://www.machangout.com/
    which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! Such as enabling Safari to run full-screen, and more.)
    (It adds items to Safari Preferences).
    Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
    Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.

  • Slow, slow, slow ... (Safari and Firefox)

    I have experienced a drastic slow down lately with loading pages and downloading files. For example, it may take 30 minutes to buffer a YouTube video. Even some pages that are almost entirely text take forever to load.
    This seems to be the case regardless of browser (both Safari and Firefox are effected - Sorry, I didn't know where else to post this message). Also, this happens both at home or using other WiFi networks outside. Any advice?

    Welcome to the forums!
    (First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
    Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
    Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    (An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
    Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
    Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
    Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
    This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
    Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
    If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
    Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
    Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
    Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
    Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
    Less likely, but possible, is that the slowness is caused by a Trojan such as the one called 'DNSChanger' or 'OSZ.RSPlug', which can alter the DNS settings of your network connection. This particular Trojan can be inadvertently installed if you have come across certain Quicktime movies where got a window stating that you have to download and install a particular codec in order to see the video.
    If you have agreed to that installation, your system can be infected and your DNS settings altered, which results in your system using the wrong DNS servers, which can slow web surfing to a crawl.
    This can be fixed by downloading and running a freeware utility called DNSChanger Removal Tool which you can download from here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696
    Once you have run that utility you have to re-boot your Mac, then reset Safari, and re-enter your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network.
