Problems with burning an ipod playlist

Every time I try to burn a playlist a window comes up halfway through and says: An error has occured: 4261. I don't know what this means but it is stopping me from burning playlists to CD. I am using Sony CD-R discs which I believe are the write discs to use. Before attempting to burn the playlist every song was ticked. The songs were from my own CDs as I have had no joy burning downloaded songs to disc either. Of the playlist that is made up from my own CDs, I made ten attempts to burn this playlist but to no avail. The only time it did burn the full playlist I took out the CD and put it into my CD player. But this was no good as every track was skipping and the CD had become scratched in the burning process. There is nothing wrong with my CD player as it does not do this to my other CDs and I have had no problems playing CDs on my computer. It's just that itunes won't let me burn to CD. Any help would be appreciated.

If the songs on the iPod aren't in iTunes you need to copy them back there in order to burn them to CD. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

iDump Windows Only
iRepo Mac and Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • Problems with syncing my ipod

Yesterday I updated my iPod tot 1.1
After that it had that crappie bug with the video's, so I downgraded my iPod. After that I updated it again tot 1.1
Now I have a problem with syncing my iPod (video's only).
First I had some series it synced with my iPod, also after the first update. But after the second update it tells me there are some files it couldn't sync. (some videos it did sync btw, and the problem with the sound has gone, I can play movies normal now!)
So the problem is now that it doesn't sync all my movies anymore, and I converted all of them with the same program..
Anyone has the same problem or knows how to solve?

  • Problem with a thousend empty playlist in iTunes Match.

I need a help to reset my itunes match because have a problem with a thousend empty playlist.

Funny thing: I just reset the iPad 2 again and was careful to shut off iTunes Match. Almost immediately my iPhone 4s updated and showed no more duplicate "recent" playlists. A check of my Laptop also shows none. So now it's isolated to the iPad. Guess I'll leave Match shut off for a day or two.

  • Problem with burning DVD's

I have Roxio Toast Titanium and I have a problem with burning DVD's. When I put a blank DVD-R in my superdrive, select the files and go to burn; the advanced recording options will not let me deselect the check in "close disk". It is shaded. But when I use a CD-RW I can and so far the Roxio help has...well has not been help at all. I mean why would I spend the money to buy a software package that lets me do the same thing as the basic OS-X disk utility would let me do? Drag a file, burn it and close the disk from any future use....
Sorry if this does not belong here, I did not see a area for general software questions way back in the main forum area not one here.

    Donald,
    Hi and thank you.
To give you more details on what I am trying to do; I am trying to burn in Mac & PC format. I am mainly trying to back up all my assorted college files (I am a college student), these files are lecture notes in Word with embedded audio recordings, standard Word documents such as essays, etc., spreadsheets, PDF documents, etc. The files I am attempting to burn should not be larger than 4.7 gb and Roxio has not given me a warning that it would be.
I am just frustrated that when I put in a DVD-R or -RW I only have one option, and that is to close out the disk when it is finished burning it. I have also gone to the recording tab, on the menue bar, to uncheck the "close disk" box after I put in a blank DVD and before I select files to burn. The option is shadded preventing me from even trying, which is not the case for a CD!
    Thank you!

I am problems with an older Ipod classic running 1.1.2pc using earbuds with Ipod inline remote. The earbuds work fine with my new Ipod but not the older one. Any suggestions?

    1) This is because of software version 1.1. See this
thread for some options as to how to go back to 1.0,
    which will correct the problem...

    2) This tends to happen after videos. Give the iPod a
minute or two to readjust. It should now be more
    accurate.
    3) This?

I think 3,4, and 5 are related. Try the options I

I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again

  • Problems with burned playlists audio format

I was doing fine, burning and burning without any issues. Not sure if something got updated to cause this. One day I'm playing an audio CD in my car that I burned from a playlist in i-tunes and it sounds like a "skip". then another. I pull the clean, brand new disc out and clean it off, go back it's still there. Same deal on other cd players also. Since that day I've burned about 15 discs from a couple of playlists and only 1 has been without these errors. There are usually about 10-12 per CD and they sound like a quick skip or dropout and they repeat if I go back in time on the song, they are there each time. The song data in i-tunes and on the ipod is perfect. I've tried a couple of brands of CD-R's. Same issue. I've tried with and without sound check. With and without other programs running. I've tried to update the burner driver but couldn't find an update. I've run a disc with many of these problems in "EAC" a bootleg burning freeware to see if they show up as errors, they do not. Here is what I'm running Itunes 6.0.4.2 driver 2.0.4.3 DLL 2.0.3.2
    Confused. Thanks for any help.

Oh, and a couple more observations. The "burn disc" yellow/black wheel doesn't spin smoothly like I thought it did before, and the burn hangs up at the "burning disc - finishing" stage, I have to manually quit it. The disc plays, but with these little dropouts.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Problems with itunes and ipod

If anyone can help me with this problem i would really appreciate it
The problem started about a week ago when i had just finished downloading some music off of morpheus. My computer displayed a message saying that I didn't have anymore space on my ipod, i knew this was incorrect because my ipod holds 500 songs and at the time i only had about 270 songs. Itunes displayed another message saying that it would select various songs to a new created playlist. The problem with this is it only put 70 songs back on the ipod. So I deleted it. The next day i tried putting more songs back on it, and i got another message saying that itunes was corrupt. Strangely, itunes wiped ALL my songs off my ipod. I have virus protection so i ran the mcafee virus scan, and no files were infected. Now Everytime I hook up my ipod to my notebook i get a message saying " Ipod cannot be updated because all the selected playlists for updating no longer exist." I have tried resetting my ipod, updating itunes, creating new playlists, and nothing just seems to work.
If anyone knows how to remedy this problem please let me know.
    Thanks.

" Ipod cannot be updated because all the selected playlists for updating no longer exist."<<</div>
It sounds like you have the ipod set to automatically update selected songs and playlists only. Try placing it into a different updating configuration.

  • Major Stopping/Skipping Problem With 30G Photo iPod

Hi all. I'll try to give the short version of my major iPod problems I've been having. It's been going on for a couple months straight now.
The first thing that started happening was, in the middle of playing a song, it would freeze, and then start skipping through of the rest of the tracks on that playlist or album. It would sometimes make a "whirring" sound when going from track to track without playing them. Sometimes, this process would start instead when trying to manually skip from one song to another...it would just start to skip through tracks. It had to be restarted a bunch of times, and none of these problems had been present in the 2 or so years previous I owned it. Eventually, it showed an "unhappy face" and nothing else could be done.
I brought it back to Best Buy, where I bought it, as it was still under warranty for another year. They sent the iPod back to Apple for repairs. The "repaired" iPod was back in my hands in about 3 weeks, and for a week or so worked perfectly. Then, it started having the skipping tracks problem again.
Not long there after, it started having more serious problems. It needed to be resetted very frequently. The skipping of tracks, the first warning sign, became the least of it's problems. It needed to be completely restored. The first time it was restored, it got through about 600-1000 of the 5800 songs on it, then stopped and said the restore failed.
Other times, it showed the dreaded "1418" message. Other times it had messages like these:
Attempting to copy to the disk “Andrew’s iPod” failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).
The iPod “Andrew’s iPod” cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.
The iPod “Andrew’s iPod” cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.
Eventually, it synced correctly. But the problems continued, and over the course of two weeks it had to be completely restored about 3 or 4 times, although it would then work again perfectly fine for, like, an hour.
So I took it back in again. This time, Best Buy told me that I would be quickly sent back a "Refurb" unit (a refurbished iPod that someone else had returned, I guess and had then been fixed or what have you.)
After a few days, I got the refurb unit. It's not my old iPod, I could tell just by looking at the front and back. And, for about 2 weeks, it worked absolutely perfectly. It reloaded like a charm, and played completely fine. The battery life seemed a little iffy, but nothing crazy.
Then, yesterday, this iPod that *is not* the same iPod I returned as far as I can tell, is having THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Yesterday, in the middle of a song that I had played many times before, it froze, stopped, and started skipping songs. It needed to be reset, what else is new. So, I did, and got the "unhappy face" with the address of iPod support once again.
I'm really confused. What is the problem here? When I had my first unit returned, I figured perhaps the problem hadn't been addressed. But this doesn't even appear to be the same unit.
Could there be a problem with iTunes 7.1.1 with my iPod? For what it's worth, I followed the advice found online to try to find corrupted music files, and can't find any. When it had restore problems with the last unit, I checked to see if it was stopping on any particular song, and it was different every time. Even so, I erased those songs just in case.
Also, when it freezes and stops now (and with the old unit, for that matter) it was never the same song. And it was almost always on a song that had already been played many times, perfectly fine, many times before, and recently to boot. I've also played through almost every song through iTunes over the last couple months to check for any obvious problems, and never found any.
With over 5750 songs on my iPod, I don't know how I can possibly know with complete certainty if there's anything with a problem amongst them, although completely erasing my iPod library that until 2 months ago never had a problem is kind of a worst case scenario.
What on earth could be wrong with my iPod? It's currently plugged into an outlet, vacillating between the Apple symbol and the "unhappy face." Anyone have ANY ideas?!?!?

I wondered what a 'photo' iPod was. This forum is for the 5G video. I don't know how long an iPod is supposed to last. I think it is based on use and how roughly it is handled if it is a hard-drive model.
Maybe time for a new machine?

  • Problem with burning audio CD's in iTunes 10.x.x

Just had a situation where I had to burn three sets of CD's, each with similar (but not exactly the same) audio tracks.  I labeled the discs CD_01, CD_02 and CD_03.  The files are recorded .mp3 music tracks.  I was sure that each playlist I created for each CD in iTunes contained the correct cuts, though after they were burned as music CD's, the Mac Pro computer and iTunes seemed to get confused about which CD # and playlist was loaded.  iTunes apparently did not burn the correct playlist that was selected.
I re-burned the discs and when I thought they were finally right, we tested the master discs on our car stereo, and we could see all the track information fine and that the CD disc numbers were correct.  However, when we made duplicates of those master files, once again the computer and iTunes again appeared to be confused!  The disc master that had been confirmed to be CD_02 was now coming up as CD_01!!   And when I loaded the discs into a different computer with iTunes 11, none of the track information that was once visible could be seen!  The disc was called "Audio CD" and each track was reduced to just a number.   Now my fear is that I have sent out discs with all incorrect versions on them !
Has anyone else had issues similar to these when burning audio CD's?
    Thanks!

I also seem to have problems burning with the new iTunes 7. I thought it was neat I could backup my whole collection and that worked fine. But just burning an audio CD seems to be a problem. I've successfully burned one and this was accomplished by deleting one song from the playlist. I'm not trying to burn multiple CD's from a long playlist.
    iTunes.
    1. Checks media Ok .
    2. The message says it's initailizing the disk.
    3. The first song starts to burn and it stays there showing NO progress. It never burns.
What I've tried also is lowering the burning speed, unchecking and rechecking boxes in the burning preferences (like including text). I've used different media.
    Seems to be a bug.

  • 2 Problems with 2 different iPod Touch models.

Hi, recently I've experienced a few problems with my First Generation iPod Touch, and my Second Generation iPod Touch also. The first gen. was updated to the most recent software, whereas the second gen. hadn't been updated with iOS 4 yet. Neither have been jailbroken or have had illegal software on them. I hadn't used them excessively recently, so that may be a factor. So first, I'll start with the first gen. iPod.
It's been working fine with little problems for the almost 2 years I've had it. A few days ago, I decided to clear almost all apps, music, and videos so I could make room for anything I'd like to put on another time. I put a few things back on it, and unplugged it. The next day, I turned it on, organized some apps, than restarted it (forgot the technical term, just the hold power button and sliding the bar to turn it off) I than could not turn it back on, so I plugged it into iTunes. After charging a bit, iTunes said it was in safe mode and I had to restore it, so I did. After it did restore, I plugged it back in and got the message that the iPod may be damaged and it cannot be activated for use, and that I should see an Apple Store. After searching around a bit, I found that this sometimes happens to Jailbroken iPods, turning them "bricked". None of the methods that I read to fix it worked. I don't really have time to see an Apple Store person anytime soon, is there any advice on how to fix it? It currently has a "connect to iTunes" screen on it, so I cannot use it or restore it again.
On to my second generation iPod, a few days ago I used it, it was out of battery so I charged it, and when I did, it charged, than continually started resetting so I couldn't so anything but charge it. I ignored it. Today I decided to do something about it, so it's currently plugged into my iMac. It charged for a bit, than went to the apple logo screen like it does after you reset it and turn it back on. After it stays on that screen for a few minutes, it goes back to the charge screen, showing that it has no battery left, which is odd because it has been charging for the past hour. The sequence then repeats, with the battery screen going to the apple logo screen and repeating. Because of this, I cannot use it at all, there is never the opening "slide to unlock" screen. It also doesn't show up on iTunes because it isn't on that screen.
It seems I've been hitting some bad luck, I hope that someone can give me tips on how to fix it, if nothing works, I will just bring them to an Apple Store. Thanks for reading.

    Hi there,
I'm sorry I cannot help you with the first generation iPod.
However, with the second one I think I know what the problem is.
The USB port in many cases does not provide enough power for the iPod to charge and the drainage is greater than the input power. This constantly happens with my iTouch. I usually fix this by removing all other USB devices such as my mouse. This seems to transfer more power to the iTouch which eventually after rebooting a few times has enough power to turn back on and then charge. I believe you should either connect it to a wall based charger and charge for 4 hours or leave it connected to your PC with all USB's removed for a while.
    I hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • Problems with iTunes and iPod running under Windows Vista

I recently changed my computer. I now have an HP Pavilion running windows Vista (use to have XP). I have a video iPod -30GB. I downloaded iTunes onto the new equipment without incident, but that is the last thing that went smoothly.
I can no longer watch TV shows or movies from iTunes. The video plays like a slide show of stills (the audio is real-time however). Eventually I will get an error message from Windows and it closes the application.
I am also having issues with syncing my iPod and computer. I get a message requiring me to delete all of the content of the iPod and replace it with the contents of iTunes. I haven't done this -no trust and no backup
The delete message is from iTunes. I suspect it is a security feature to prevent downloading to more than one iPod, as iTunes doesn't seem to 'know' my iPod anymore. Syncing has also caused iTunes to close and my computer to reboot. Has anyone else had these problems?

  • Having problems with my new iPod touch can you help me a first time user?

I cannot locate my photos in the iTunes library, I have no problem with the Music entry, is there something I have to do to create a library entry?
Also I do not get the photo folders only the individual photos in one large file (3500+) good quality but not good for specific look up, again is there anything I need to do to have folder organization?
I'd appreciate any help that I can get, and would thank any particant in advance

Hi Kappy. I have located the photo files from the sync to my ipod, by the way I am a Windows XP user, and what is showing is a file called 'ipod Photo Cache' which contains folders which have the photo conversions of what is in my 'My Pictures' folder, this cache folder follows at the end of my photo library content.
The cache folder files have an extension of .thumb these are conversions for the ipod and appear to change when I delete or modify any photo in my library and to further complicate things these photos (.JPG format) have an intermediate conversion to a (.cpt format)which are contained within my photo library folders. None of this bothers me since I have my photos on the ipod which is of great value to me.
Thanks for your efforts on my behalf, I will now let this rest and proceed to other new challenges in the ipod world.
