Problems with cd rom drivers on win 98

Ok I have a MSI 6524 mb and a sony cdrw drive, an LG cr rom and 1st gen dvd that dont like to read cdr's. I have formated my hd and put win 98 se on it, but it will not load the cd rom drivers , and because of that, the IDE drivers wont install cause they come on later from win 98. I've check all manufactures web sites and non offer a cd rom driver cause they are all plug and play.
Now I have a windows ME boot disk that does have the cd rom drivers but I keep getting an error message about disk cache utilitly being on my hard drive when I use the ME boot disk Is there a way to use the ME and not have errors? I know there is a way to load cdrom drivers in DOS, but im Super stuid with DOS and even with instructions from the net I cant get it right. Can somone please offer me some very GOOD instructions on what to do.

Well I tried that, but only the Windows Me boot disk seems to have drivers for my cd rom. I even tried to use a patch that adds 4 more cd rom drives to my win 98 boot disk, but I couldnt understand how to do that. I think it was a bad patch.
The main reason I'm redoing my Hd is because everytime I try to use any thing , any program, run anything, it will work for a few seconds and then freeze to a blue screen that says "windows has had a fatal error, press any key to continue or press control alt del to restart" So I push any key and explorer has performed an illegal opperation, so I click on close, and then another program does the same thing , and then another, til there is nothing left running, or the comp is completely frozen. And then everysingle time I reboot , the same thing happens.

Hello I haven't been here in a while, I did an Arch Linux install a few months back and it was quite the learning experience for someone like me being a noob . I loved Arch( I was using 64bit) but the only thing that made me leave it was because after several tries I never could get the ATI VId drivers to install properly for my ATI 3870hd video card I could'nt do any serious gaming which suckedso I ended up uninstalling Arch. I did stay with Linux and stayed away from the MS OS's and now I am back and wondering if the installation problem is still there. I am using Ubuntu Hardy right now and although it is a good OS I really prefer Arch but like I said I just want to know if I am going to have the same problems with the Video Drivers as I did the last time. which I could never figure out because I did have duel boot 64bit ARCH and 64bit, Ubuntu but with Ubuntu all I needed to do was go into the system/administration/hardware drivers and check( turn on) the ATI accelerated hardware drivers I had no problems since.
I just realised that my single simple question turned into a short story so I will post this and hope that my problem with the Driver installs are solved so I can reinstall Arch with out any huge problems when I want to game

Problem with CD ROM driver

My name is Divyeshkumar Aghera. I have HP Pavilion g6 series laptop with windows 7 homebasic genuine operating system.
I am having two problems with my laptop. May be those two are interlinked.
Problem number-1 :
When I go to option devices and printers in control panel, I see a caution mark sign (i.e. " ! ") in yellow tringle on CD ROM device icon. CD ROM name is "PWNI FK5QZSTQ SCSI CdRom Device". When I write click on the icon and choose troubleshoot option windows shows error showing message " There is a problem with the driver for A2VR14UR IDE controller. Reinstalling the driver might fix this problem". When I choose option apply this Fix, it shows an eoor stating " A2VR14UR IDE controller has a driver problem" and status "Not Fixed". Please help me to get the drivers for CDROM to for trouble shooting.
Problem number-2 :
I have made 1 out of 4 DVD of windows recovery successfully. But now when I insert blank DVD to make other DVDs, CD ROM automatically format the blank DVD after choosing option to create Normal CD/DVD or Create USB Flash DVD. Then on my computer screen DVD ROM icon displays the date when it got automatically formatted. And DVD Drive does not accept the Blank DVD which got formatted automatically after insertion and ejects it back saying that this DVD is not suitable to burn for Windows recovery Drive. I have lost 6 DVDs till date. But when we do normal burning of data then it allows to burn it normally. Blank DVD formatted automatically after insertion also occupies some space. If DVD has 3.68GB free sapce before format, After format it will show 3.67GB free out of 3.968 GB. Please help me out I am totally lost.

The Windows systems (no mater what Win system) use the standard Microsoft driver to control CD/DVD drive. The driver is part of the system and cannot be downloaded or installed separately.
This means that driver is already installed.
Do you see the CD/DVD drive in device manager? Is it marked with yellow exclamation mark?
In such case I recommend uninstalling the device from device manager (simply mark the device and click on uninstall driver or press delete).
Then go to registry and remove the upper and lower filters from following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control\Class \ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then reboot.

Problem with cd-rom on kt3 ultra2

hi, i'm having a very weird problem and have no clue what it could be
every time my cdrom has to copy multiple files to the harddisk, it generates errors on reading the files.
i have tried several different ide-cables (also 80-conductor cable), 2 different cdrom-drives who worked fine on another mobo, 3 different hard-drives, 4 different cd-rom's that i've all checked with Fix-It-Utilities and should be completely without errors.
after about 15 attempts with several os's i've managed to install windows xp but with several files missing, causing big instability, freezes on startup and stuff.
the problem with the cdrom is only when it has to copy a lot of data
if anyone has an idea, plz let me know coz i don't know what to try anymore ?(

my ram: 256MB pc2700 ddr sdram from Twinmos
i used memtest, got it at http://ftp://ftp.ulyssis.org/pub/semi-os/memtest/
i put the memory in different slots, tried on 100mhz fsb and on 133mhz and each time it generated errors
i contacted the vendor to see if he'd know any other thing i could try but he just told me to send it over
that's all i can say i guess ...

Solved flicker problem with newer fglrx drivers

This has been annoying me since the move from 8.29 to 8.30: I have an integrated Xpress 200 on my laptop, and newer proprietary drivers caused the screen to flicker. This has caused me to stick with the older drivers, which restricted upgrades to X.org and the kernel. I was misled by some posts on the Internet to believe that this was the result of using custom modelines.
I have finally solved the problem yesterday. I am posting my findings in case anyone else has been suffering from the same behaviour.
The newer drivers come with an ACPI script, installed under /etc/acpi. The script is invoked every minute and inspects the current power status (i.e., A/C or battery). It then invokes
aticonfig --set-powermode=[MODE]
to adjust the driver to the new settings. Each time this command is executed, it causes the screen to flicker.
Obviously, there is no need to run the script if the power mode has not changed since the last call. I have therefore modified the script to first check the current driver power mode, and execute the mode command only if a new setting is required.
I hope this helps someone.

this seems to be the problem I'm having, ie the ac/battery event being called too frequently, but have no idea how to edit the script. I'm on an asus w3n, will it help to replace apci with asus-laptop and apcid daemon...or just add those and leave acpi daemon?

Continuing problems with Audigy2 Zs Drivers. Help!

Hi all,
I have had a recurring problem now that has gone on for far too long and is really killing me. I have the specs for the computer in my signature.
What happens, is everything works perfectly well until I install my Creative Audigy2 Zs Drivers for my second soundcard. Then when the computer reboots, the pc halts just before desktop to a blank screen for something like 30-45 minutes. The only way I can bootup, is if I remove every USB device from the system. It doesn't matter what USB device is plugged in, the computer just won't boot.
I have tried everything: updating drivers, changing around sound card PCI slot, changing IRQ's but nothing seems to fix the problem until I uninstall the soundcard drivers, where everything boots up as normal.
I really don't understand this, and i'm suprised noone else I can see are having problems with this soundcard, and drivers. I have searched the interweb for a solution, and others that are having this problem, but to no avail so far

I have a problem with my HP 15 - n086sl .
With native Windows 8 did not.
the problem is the following :
moving from windows 8 to 8.1 I lose the switch graphics cards.
I mean : if I click with the mouse on "configure switchable graphics cards " I get out of a window that says " Unable to start Catalyst Control Center. currently there are no other settings to configure with CCC"
I tried to update the drivers with the ones on the HP site for windows 8.1 , but nothing changes .
From " Device Manager " I noticed that the drivers you have installed AUTOMATIC moving from windows 8 to 8.1 are the same version as on the hp website .

If I install the drivers from the AMD website I have the following problems :
the switch returns to work but hibernation no longer works and if the screen of the PC goes into standby by moving the mouse or pressing both buttons it never recovers . I have to turn off the computer by holding down the button.

Hi, I installed the previous version of the nForce unified drivers (2.03) and I have had problems with the latest version of the unified drivers also (2.41). These both have ethernet drivers "3.13 (WHQL) + TOT .NVU"
They seem to be the ethernet drivers fault. If I install one of the latest versions of the unified drivers, windows does not boot up, it just hangs at windows logo. ?(
If I remove the ethernet cards drivers using safe Mode, the system will boot up fine. I also have to re-install older versions of the ethernet drivers to get the system to boot.
I am using the K7N2 motherboard with onboard ethernet.
Any reasons/fixes would be great , cheers :]

Problems with custom roms and recovery

Hello, recntly ive unlocked the bootloader of my xperia z2 and flashed xzdualrecovery and paranoid android. a few days later paranoid android had problems with calling so ive decided to flash another rom so i downloaded the aroma installer of existenz ultimate 3.0 and tried to install it with cwm recovery. it didnt work on cwm so i tried to install twrp with a 1-click twrp flashtool. i didnt get the twrp recovery working so i ened up still having cwm. then i rebooted my phone into flashmode/fastboot mode to flash my recovery with fastboot witch didnt work either. i booted back to cwm and flashed cm11s for the xperia z2. but then when i started booting up into thesystem my phone stuck in the bootanimation, so i tried to flash the boot.img from the rom but my phone wont enter fastboot mode.

Problems with cirrus logic drivers. bootcamp 3.2. osX 10.6.6. win XP

got the soundproblems with the cirrus logic audio drivers as stated several times in the forum.
latest version of osX and bootcamp. win xp sp3. tried 3 installations...
mic creates the "darth vader" voice. this can be fixed with this hacked driver from the web from 2009. sic!!
soundrecordings destorted. btw. the stereomix in soundrecordings is gone. was stereomix disabled in the driver? there is no hidden features. worked on macbook from 2008 with leopard and realtek hardware.
windows xp seems to be an OEM. can this be a reason?
does the sound work properly on windows 7?

I have the same problem (MBP 13", Win 7. Getting green bars, red light in headphone jack but no sound. Ages in fourms, driver installs, system restore - am pretty fried).
I wish there was some solid advice from Apple on this rather that trawling through these forums putting together the pieces of the jigsaw. No downloading the Realtek driver (if you could even get them without paying a subscription to so 'device driver doctor app'), nor the Cirrus drivers from the disc.
This is really frustrating. I want a clear 'how to' from Apple. As an Apple user for years I find them quickly loosing their plug and play shiny image - so Apple, get it together.

Problem with installing the drivers from cd-rom CTREG

I have the following problems.
st.. this one is the most urgent.. the problem is I can't seem to install from a drivers cd.. the error I get is like CTREGSVR.. it says it cannot find differnt applications on dri've c... there is like a whole bunch and in the end you just keep clicking ok ok ok until it continues to install. the drivers intll fine but none of the appliations seem to work. the funny thing is with the message is that its looking for someing like c:\program files\creative\sbzs2\then differnt dll and stuff and it says it cannot be found..
the other problem I have is that once in a blue moon the mixer will not work and the only way to get it work is to pretty much go through the painful installin/re-intallation of the whole thing because nothing seems to work. It says the sounds blaster card could not be found...
anyways if you guys could just help me out with the st prob. that would be great.

Problem with UTF-8 japanese on Win XP

I have a Client/server application with a server coded in C++ and runing on HP workstation and the GUI in java runing in a web context via java webstart mechanism on PC machine with win XP sp2 OS.
when logging into the HP workstation in japanese SHIFT_JIS and downloading the application japanese Charcters are displayed correctly on my PC.
However when logging into the HP workstation in japanese with UTF-8 encodage and kaunching the application characters aren't displayed correctly only rectangle charcaters are displayed, when launching the GUI on HP workstation it displayed correctly.
Can any one help me to resolve this problem.

Both SHIFT_JIS and UTF-8 are character encodings. SHIFT_JIS encodes a superset of JISX-0208 to double-byte codepoints and JISX-0201 to single byte codepoints. UTF-8 encodes all of Unicode.
The problem here is that you are relying on "default" encoding for a client-server application. This only works when the default encoding is the same on both ends.
Go through your code, looking for everywhere where you convert to and from Strings, including reading and writing to IO Streams, and replace the methods you are using with equivalent methods that let you specify an encoding.

so you see it want to upgrade my kernel which I dont want. because my kile and k3b programs gives Segmentation fault when i try to start them.
