Problems with charging MacBook Pro with Retina display (15inch)

Today, I connected my MacBook Pro with Retina display 15inches to my charger and it did not charge but was showing that charger is plugged but battery is not charging. I checked by disconnecting my charger and I had only 2% of charge left. By the way, when I disconnect my charger, laptop works on its battery.

  • Charging Macbook Pro 15 Retina Display

    Good Afternoon
As I put to charge the first time the computer.
and if at any time I leave on all the time would drop the computer not the computer's lifespan
    Thanks

    for example
When I'm playing, and I get to download the computer that I would lose progress.
So my question is if I leave it plugged in all the time I can not reduce the lifespan of the battery.
and the other question is how many hours should I stop loading the pc for the first time?
    thanks

  • Why App Store Speed is very slow on Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display?

    Hi,
I'm facing few problems on my Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display in terms of Net Speed.
I live in Delhi, India. I have 8 MBPS Broadband Plan. I have a Windows PC too at my home and Galaxy S2 Smart Phone. Both gives an awesome speed of around 7 to 8 MBPS Easily.
But my Macbook Pro never gives a speed in App Store. It takes lot's of time to download Apps or Updates.
    Additional Details:
I'm using Airtel DNS as my connection is Airtel.
    202.56.215.54
    202.56.215.55
    For example see this:

EVERYONE is downloading that update right now - whenever I received a Developer Seed notice, it would take hours for me to download the new beta release, becasue so many others were downloading at the same time. Usually that little 840MB combo update would start out at 5 hours or so and then successfully download in 2-3 hours. So you're just going to have to be patient on this one.
If the Mac App Store is slow on other files, however - say you're downloading EverNote for the first time - then I would contact the MAS support folks - http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/.
The 10.8.3 download is just going to be slow, however, because people all over the world are downloading it and there are just so many Apple servers and just so many copies of those files on the server.
So, on this one, just take a big breath and relax!

  • MacBook Pro 15" Retina display with distorted graphics.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Retina display purchased in Nov. 2014.  When surfing the net areas of the screen will sometimes begin to display distorted or blinking graphics.  The distoreded area are usually about 2" high by 3" long of either blinking text or filled many small rectangles of distorted graphics.  I ran diagnostics and no problems found.  Here is a link to a video of the problem.

    Howdy dalefromdeatsville,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where you're seeing graphical distortion on your Mac's display, please follow the instructions below.
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

  • Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display Issues with Wifi with Bluetooth.

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 2.3 Ghz model.  I've noticed that while on wifi, when I use a bluetooth mouse or even turn on bluetooth on my computer, the wifi performance severely decreases for a short period of time.  While using a bluetooth mouse the wifi intermittently fails and I need to shut off wifi and turn it back on to correct the issue.
Using the ping utility on terminal I have confirmed this in that when bluetooth is turned on, a large number of packets are lost for about ten seconds.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem and is this an issue I can correct myself or should I contact Apple?
    Thanks

I have the same issue with my macbook pro with retina display. I have 2 macbook pros. I never would of thought that a bluetooth signal was interfering with both of them. I had a gateway wireless router that only had 2.4 Ghz 802.11 b/g, which is the same frequency of bluetooth. I know that bluetooth bounces from channel to channel, whereas wifi sticks to one constant channel (normally). I have reinstalled my mac twice, thinking that somehow my drivers were corrupted. This was false becuase everytime I reinstalled it did the same thing, Act fine for 5-10 minutes and randomly the internet connection would freeze up all together for 10-20 seconds. I have also tried contacting apple multiple times and they tried to do a smc and pram reset. They also tried to get rid of my chaches in my computer. It all seemed to be fine, and then when I got off the phone it would act us once more.
I have read numerous articles to try and fix the situation; one of them was to try change the location of the network and change the MTU size. No help. I called At&T (my internet provider) and got a new router and that did work for a while. But eventually acted up again. The router was still 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g. I read this article and found out that my Magic Mouse might be causing the issue. Turns out to be true. Everytime I would browser the internet or browse the itunes store and it would freeze, i would immediatly turn the bluetooth off and what do you know, it works!!! This is a huge dissapointment in apple however. It seems to be only a macbook pro w/ retina display issue. My other macbook pro only acts up when i'm using my newer one (something is wrong with the bluetooth and wifi in the retina for the 2.4 ghz frequencies.
I just got a Airport express, and have not experienced this issue what so ever. This is due to the fact that it is a dual band wireless router. It supports 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz both at 802.11 a/b/g/n which is a major improvement compared to what I had. I use the 5Ghz frequency and have no issues still.
This is still an issue however because if I want to go out and use anothers persons wifi, I can't control their frequency. So I will still have this issue.

  • I have a macbook pro 15" Retina Display with 2.6 ghz and 8gb of ram yet when i try to download a HD movie from itunes it says my computer doesn't support HD?

i have a macbook pro 15" retina Display with 2.6 ghz and 8gb of ram when i try to download an HD movie from itunes it says my computer doesn't support HD? i went to the support on the apple website and looked at the specs that a computer has to meet in order to play HD movies and mine is well above them. Why can't i play the movies?

That would at least partially explain it.
These MacBook Pros drew more power than the power brick could readily supply, and so would only run at top speed when the power brick was supplemented by the battery.
Though the applicable tech note has been removed, it stated:
"If the battery is removed from a MacBook or MacBook Pro, the computer will automatically reduce the processor speed. This prevents the computer from shutting down if it demands more power than the A/C adapter alone can provide."

  • I just brought Macbook pro(without retina display) on 15 june 2013 and since then put it on 6-7 hours of charging but still my macbook pro is not 100% charged. but why? (green light is displayed on the adapter pin)

i just brought Macbook pro(without retina display) on 15 june 2013 and when i switched it on the battery was 72 % charged and now the battery is charged to 62%, i used the charger that came with it and kept it for 6-7 hours on charging but it is not charged to 100% but why? also the green light is always on when i plug the charger with my mac book pro. Please tell me the meaning of Green light on power cord lid (mac book pro not charging or charging?) and also the other light if there like amber or any other colour.

    Hello Shailendras33,
Congratulations on your new MacBook Pro!  Thank you for providing all the information about what is going on with the charging issue.
Firstly, I found some information on page 11 of the MacBook Pro User Guide about what each color of the LED means on the Power Adapter:
When you first connect your power adapter to your MacBook Pro, an indicator light on the
MagSafe connector starts to glow.  An amber light indicates the battery is charging.  A green light indicates that the battery is fully charged.
You can find the MacBook Pro User Guide here (this is not for the latest MacBook Pro, but the information about the MagSafe adapter is true for the newest model):
    MacBook Pro User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/macbook_pro_15inch_late_2011.pdf
It sounds like you are not getting the amber light indicating your computer is charging, and you are noticing that the battery level is depleting.  I recommend resetting your System Management Controller when something like this is occurring:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • My macbook pro w/ retina display fell sideways on the charger and now the charging works on and off.

    Hey,
So my macbook pro w. retina display fell off my bed (only like 1 foot though and on carpet) sideways on the charging port. Now when the charger is plugged in -- it sometimes stops charging like it's not connected.
Hope the damage isn't too bad but would like to know what to do.
    thanks!

First time I've seen this problem - can you power on while holding down the Shift key.
And, yes, if you're within 14 days of purchase you can return it for a replacement or refund. I'd let the Apple folks look at it before deciding what to do.

  • If I buy a new MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display is OSX Mavericks Preinstalled? Or we should pay separately for the OSX Mavericks.

I was planning to buy a Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display. I was kinda confused if the MacBook Pro has OSX Mavericks pre-installed or we should buy it separately? Pls. Reply ASAP... We will buy it this Christmas Season 2013... Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The latest MacBook Pro is only compatible with OS X Mavericks, so it comes with OS X Mavericks. The problem comes with older MacBooks Pro, because they may come with Mountain Lion or OS X Mavericks.
As OS X Mavericks is already installed, you do not need to do anything to get it. Also, OS X Mavericks is free of charge

  • Extract data off a broken MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012?

    Hi,,,
I had a problem with my MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012  - display and something ending with logic being broken = black screen. Since is was over £1000 to fix it, i decided to buy a new Macbook pro with Retina Display 16gb ram, 512gb.
Now, what is the best way to retrieve the data out off the old macbook pro SSD? If I open the computer and take it off, how do i connect it to my new mac? is there a cable to connect to the SSD, as i searched and can't find. Really need to transfer all my files that is inside the old mac to the new one.
Thank you in advance for the help

Remove the SSD from the old MBP and put it in an external USB enclosure. Connect to your new MBP and transfer your files. You can find a good enclosure at OWC.

  • Keep Macbook Pro w/Retina Display?

So I recently went out and purchased (not even a week ago) a Mid Tier, Mid 2014
Macbook Pro with retina Display 13' because of my previous Macbook Pro 13, mid 2012
base model had reached the end of its life cycle.
Or so I thought. I mustered up the courage and took it in to the local Apple Store to get it
check out since it had display issues,  and they ran their test said it was fixable,
so I took the leap and had it repaired.A few days later it turns out they repaired a the logic board,
plus the HDD, and the display at no extra cost. So old machine is back to working condition
Now that I have the old machine back in my possession, I'm not sure if they new
Macbook Pro w/retina display was worth the buy since they old one is fixed.
So would it be wise to keep the older one, and return the newer one.
Or just keep the new one and sell the other one since problems could always arrive after
    the 90 warranty period?

I would keep the Retina display model and sell the older one.

  • HT4110 What is the best battery setting for the MacBook Pro 13 Retina display?

I want to know the best setting for the battery for the MacBook Pro 13 Retina display.

    To add just a little
Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles down on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery, but not plugged in all the time. When not being used for several hours, turn it off.
And best "tip" is if its near a socket,...plug it in as long as you can (especially at home) since cycle count on the battery are the "miles that wear out the tires (battery)", however again, not plugged in all or most of the time.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
"Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time."
General rule to remember of Lithium batteries is:
Never drain them LOW  & dont always/often store them HIGH
While cycle count is commonly seen to be the “miles” on your Lithium Ion pack cell in your Macbook, which they are, this distinction is not a fine line at all, and it is a big misconception to “count charge cycles”
*A person who has, for example, 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 50-60% remaining of a 100% charge has better battery usage and care than another person who has 300 charge cycles at say 15% remaining on a 100% charge.
DoD (depth of discharge) is far more important on the wear and tear on your Macbook battery than any mere charge cycle count.  *There is no set “mile” or wear from a charge cycle in general OR in specific.    As such, contrary to popular conception, counting cycles is not conclusive whatsoever, rather the amount of deep DoD on an averaged scale of its use and charging conditions.
(as a very rough analogy would be 20,000 hard miles put on a car vs. 80,000 good miles being something similar)
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your Macbook and therefore you cannot overcharge it when plugged in and already fully charged
*However if you don’t plan on using it for a few hours, turn it OFF (plugged in or otherwise) ..*You don’t want your Macbook both always plugged in AND in sleep mode       (When portable devices are charging and in the on or sleep position, the current that is drawn through the device is called the parasitic load and will alter the dynamics of charge cycle. Battery manufacturers advise against parasitic loading because it induces mini-cycles.)
Keeping batteries connected to a charger ensures that periodic "top-ups" do very minor but continuous damage to individual cells, hence Apples recommendation above:   “Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time”, …this is because “Li-ion degrades fastest at high state-of-charge”.
This is also the same reason new Apple notebooks are packaged with 50% charges and not 100%.
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your Macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
A lot of battery experts call the use of Lithium cells the "80% Rule" ...meaning use 80% of the charge or so, then recharge them for longer overall life.
Never let your Macbook go into shutdown and safe mode from loss of power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
The only quantified abuse seen to Lithium cells are instances when often the cells are repeatedly drained very low…. key word being "often"
Contrary to what some might say, Lithium batteries have an "ideal" break in period. First ten cycles or so, don't discharge down past 40% of the battery's capacity. Same way you don’t take a new car out and speed and rev the engine hard first 100 or so miles.
Proper treatment is still important. Just because LiPo batteries don’t need conditioning in general, does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesn’t need conditioning.
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
    Storing your MacBook
If you are going to store your MacBook away for an extended period of time, keep it in a cool location (room temperature roughly 22° C or about 72° F). Make certain you have at least a 50% charge on the internal battery of your Macbook if you plan on storing it away for a few months; recharge your battery to 50% or so every six months roughly if being stored away. If you live in a humid environment, keep your Macbook stored in its zippered case to prevent infiltration of humidity on the internals of your Macbook which could lead to corrosion.
    Considerations:
Your battery is subject to chemical aging even if not in use. A Lithium battery is aging as soon as its made, regardless.
In a perfect (although impractical) situation, your lithium battery is best idealized swinging back and forth between 20 and 85% SOC (state of charge) roughly.
Further still how you discharge the battery is far more important than how it is either charged or stored short term, and more important long term that cycle counts.
Ultimately counting charge cycles is of little importance.  Abuse in discharging (foremost), charging, and storing the battery and how it affects battery chemistry is important and not the ‘odometer’ reading, or cycle counts on the battery.
Everything boils down to battery chemistry long term, and not an arbitrary number, or cycle count.
Keep your macbook plugged in when near a socket since in the near end of long-term life, this is beneficial to the battery.
    Peace
