Problems with classpath in Fedora core 4
hello
i want to set class path in Fedora core 4 so that my jmf2.1.1e apis is properly taken during compilation and runtime. in short; i want to install jmf into Linux distro sothat i can compile and run its applications.
also i have a jar file of a jmf media player. now i need to know how to run it from a jar into my Fedora core distro...
i have downloaded the linux performance pack from sun site and also read the installation notes but that really doesnt help. they say to apply the command 'setenv' into the shell to set environment var but that doesnt work i have seen.
please help!
've found the solution to the problem. You have to use the -Xbootclasspath/a parameter when running java.
Example on unix:
java -Xbootclasspath/a:${CLASSPATH} -jar test.jar

While installation there are no errors. After trying to start oracle-xe (manually or after reboot) nothing happens (only errors in log files).you can ignore those errors, everyone gets them

NW04s Linux Trial : problem installing IBM JDK Fedora Core 6
Hi,
I'm trying to install the NW04S Linux Preview on a Fedora Core 6 distribution and I'm encountering a problem with the IBM JDK 1.4.2 installation.
I've downloaded the RPM package from IBM (IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-7.0.x86_64.rpm
), installed it as root but when I try to invoke the virtual machine (java) or the compiler (javac), I got the following error :
libjvm.so preloadLibrary: /libj9vm22.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
libjvm.so failed to load: j9vm22
Has anyone tried to install the Linux Preview on Fedora and encountered the same problem. It might be connected to some sort of the linux dynamic linker/loader (ld.so) or versions of librairies.
I'm really lost here and I won't be able to start the installation without a working virtual machine.
ThanksI have double checked the link provided to the IBM JDK in the Linux Trial and it seems I had the wrong version. I've downloaded IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-7.0.x86_64.rpm (1.4.2-7) and the special version for SAP is the IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-2.0.x86_64.rpm (1.4.2-2).
I have installed it : rpm -ivh IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-2.0.x86_64.rpm
I have installed it and activated it as the default JVM using alternatives command :
alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /opt/IBMJava2-amd64-142/bin/java 2
alternatives --config java
I now have a different error :
[root@macpro ~]# java
JVM not found: libjvm.so - libjvm.so
What could have I done wrong ?

I have Windows XP and Fedora Core Project 1 on my PC. I am trying to learn JSP and JDBC. I am using Wrox's Professional JSP book for reference.
I was able to executed the code successfully on Windows XP with SQL Server 2000 as database. I tried to execute the same code on Linux with MySQL 3.2.23 and J2SDK1.4.2. For that I also downloaded MySQL/Connector-J drivers. I modified the classpath to include the driver file (.jar) in it. But I get error "Authentication Failure for use root". I have exactly as it was written in the book. I am looking for some suggestion on this. If any one can help, that would be great. Also, let me know if any more information is needed.howdy,
from where u get this error ? it seems to be from ur linux box, or Mysql !
can u connect to ur Mysql database in a standalone/sample application ? [just test it]

I have this installer oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm already installed in Fedora Core 5 without any problem
when i didt it for Fedora Core 4 (other machine i have this error) (same instalation configuration!!!)

Oracle has hundreds of products. I like to group them into 'technology' and 'application' products.
The 'technoloy' products I group into
- data management == database
- data access == applicaiton server (fusion)
- data manipulation == developer tools and languages
- data sharing == collaboration suite
Without data access, the data management and data manipulation is plain 'client-server' stuff.
With data access, you stick an application server (web server, J2EE server, other server) between the client and the database.
The Oracle Application Server is a collection of Oracle technology designed to support n-tier computing. The technology includes:
- http server (Apache stuff)
- reporting server
- portal server
- forms/data entry server
- generic J2EE server
- BPEL and SOA orchestration
- Web Services server
- workflow and intergration server
- centralized security and single sign-on server
and a lot more.
The Oracle database, of course, stores and manages data. Oracle now has many 'database managers', including
- Oracle Database == the traditional one
- Times Ten == in memory only, but very high speed
- Berkeley == embedded (to be included as part of your application)
- Lite == for laptops and remote devices
and more
The traditional Oracle database has many features. These features may not be needed by all organizations. So Oracle has created several editions. These are Express, Standard Edition One, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Personal Edition. In the order presented, each adds more feature than the one before but includes all the features from the one before.
The Express Edition has the fewest features and the simplest install. It has no official Oracle support and has size limitations (4GB data max, only runs one 1 CPU). It includes Application Express which allows you to access the data from a web browser. I think of this as 'Microsoft Access, with Oracle multi-user reliability, on the Web'.
The Standard Edition One has everything from Express and adds: Java in the database, ability to use up to 2 CPU, many more features such as multi-media storage, no data size limit. It also changes the install to use the Oracle Univeral Installer.
Standard Edition adds Real Application Cluster to allow up to 4 CPU to be used, whether the 4 CPU are on one, two or four machines.
Enterprise Edition adds many high availability and scalability features to ensure the database will try to stay up all the time and will be able to handle many hundreds or thousands of users. Many DBA features are added to allow detailed tuning and management. And many options such as Partitioning, Label Security and Spatial can be purchased and added to this edition.
Personal Edition includes all of Enterprise Edition AND all of the Enterprise Edition options except Real Application Cluster. It is designed to be used by the Oracle developer so it is very inexpensive (in comparison to the Enterprise Edition) but it is limited (by the honor system) to one user access.
So when you use Express Edition, everytthing you do can be done in Enterprise Edition as well. Express Edition is a great learning tool for getting comfortable with the commercial Oracle database. All of this is described in a few pages of documentation (about 70 thousand) at http://docs.oracle.com. If you want to understand Oracle well, you may have to spend a bit less time with the nuns for a while. -
i've made a java applet with three classes, two of which are classes to construct variables needed for the main interface to work. but the interface class cannot recognise that the other two classes exist. it gives out the cannot resolve system error. i know that there is no problem with the program syntax (or which directory they are in) because it compiles on other computers and i can compile the individual classes on my sustem. i have made numerous one class programs before so the compiler definitely works in some situations. i'm thinking then that the problem must be with my jdk in some way. i've tried re-installing my jdk and installing a different jdk but stil no joy. someone mentioned to me it could be something to do with how the classpath is set up but this is something i'm a bit unsure about, i know though that XP is slightly different to the other windows o/s. any advice would be much appreciated.
My Windows is not English so I'm not sure whether it's exactly the same:
Start>Configuration>System>Environment variables
If there is a variable with the name "CLASSPATH" (system variables) look if . is in your classpath. If not, add to the classpath ";." . And if there is no CLASSPATH variable, add it (and add the value . to it).

The problem is that the Fedora series uses cutting edge technology. The Fedora technology cycles every 6-9 months.
Oracle likes things very stable. So Oracle builds a clean copy using a specific set of APIs at a specific release of the kernel, the glibc and so on. They chose the commercial releases which cycle every 18-24 months - in part so they can get people trained to provide support.
Due to the nature of Linux, you CAN install the correct APIs and get it to work and many of the free distros. Just don't expect Oracle to provide assistance or support. (After all, where do they stop - there are hundreds of free distros, and even more when you count the 'objsolete but still running' ones.)
If you really want to proceed, then you need to read up the cookbook sites from experts such as Ivan Kartik (http://ivan.kartik.sk/) or Werner Puschitz (http://www.puschitz.com) As long as you realize that the install is NOT recommended for production. -

is that correct? If you installed the developer's kit into c:\jsdk1.3.1 then that is correct. You need to include the directory where you installed java. Typically, that is c:\jdk1.3.1 for example (and add \bin). You can try to "cd c:\jsdk1.3.1\bin" and try javac again. You must have NO spaces in your Path setting. -
Hi, this is my first message in Xilinx forums, althought i;m not new with Xilinx FPGAs neither with VHDL.
I'm trying to make an FFT with the Xilinx IP Core and to test it i'm giving a sinewave in the testbench and i'm saving both input and output in files that afterwards I read in Matlab.
Details of my FFT IP Core:
Length 2048
Target CLK 100MHz
Radix4,BurstIO
Fixed point
Input width 10 bit
Unscaled
What I'm doing in the testbench is basically feeding a new value of the sinewave every clk_period, then if data valid =1 i save both input and output in files that i read with matlab afterwards.
When I check the FFT of the input with Matlab it looks as it should, but when I check the output of the IP Core I get some results that I can't even interpret.
The DC components are correctly placed, in 1 and 2048, but then I don't have the two peaks that would correspond to the sinewave's FFT.
I attach both pictures of the results here and also the project and the matlab file to read the files (you'll have to change the path)
If someone have any idea of what is going on here I would really appreciate the help!

MartinI'm saving the xk_index and plotting the result of the FFT following the xk_index it gives me the following:
It is different than what I was obtaining previously, now at least the negative and positive parts of the FFT are symetric, which makes sense, but the bin where the peak should be is not correct.
The way I'm saving the value of xk_index is to_integer(unsigned(xk_index)) and then I just plot following those values.
Is that the correct procedure? -

Since the problem only occurs when running on battery, perhaps changing the Energy Saver settings to match the settings used for when it's plugged in will fix the problem. The default settings for how the computer operates are different for the battery and power adaptor. When you unplug the power, the computer automatically shifts to the alternate settings.
So, try this:
-Open System Preferences->Energy Saver
-In the "Settings for" drop-down menu, select "Battery".
-In the "Optimization" drop-down menu, select "Better Performance".
-Under the Sleep tab, choose "Never" for both computer and display sleep and uncheck the box for "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible".
-Under the Options tab, uncheck the first two boxes.

Problems with classpath and accessing a specific file
I'm currently running an application using NetBeans (I know this is the Sun Forum but maybe someone can help). For those who aren't familiar with this IDE, whenever a project is created, a ProjectName folder is also created. Inside that folder are 5 new folders (*build*, dist, nbproject, src and test) as well as 2 new files (*build.xml*, manifest.mf). The dist folder contains the *.jar* file.
Seeing that this is an audio application, I am constantly working with audio files. In the ProjectName folder, I've created a sixth folder (*audiofiles*) were I load and save such audio files. To access a specific audio file, I do the following:
File audioExample = File("audiofiles" + File.separator + "audio.wav");When I run the project from the IDE there doesn't seem to be a problem. However, when I try to run the project by simply double-clicking the *.jar* file in the dist folder, the audio files can't be accessed. In order to be able to access them, I need to change the path:
File audioExample = File("C:\...\ProjectName\audiofiles\audio.wav");This seems to solve the problem temporarily, but if I decide to change to project folder location, I also need to change the path.
QUESTION:
What is the best way to access files so that they are not dependent on where the project folder is located? Do I need to modify the classpath or simply write the path in File(...) in a specific way? If I need to modify the classpath, how can I do so in Netbeans?

Some other directory where you can ask the user to point to? On a different computer?The audio files are located in a created folder in the IDE project folder. I know you mentioned that I should stop thinking about this as an IDE project but I don't know any other way to think about it. I'm kinda new to Java, and the only way I've learned how everything is structured is through the IDE project structure. I'm realizing that this is probably not the best way to go about as it doesn't allow me to have a good understanding of the Java file structure. What changes do I need to make in the way I view my IDE project to make it more into a deployed version?
I'm also having a hard time understanding the classpath concept. I've been under the impression that the classpath was simply the location of the packages and classes of a specific application. How could I check if the audio files are in the classpath?

Problems with CLASSPATH in a executable jar file

I'm having a problem that I don't know how to solve. My generalq uestion is:
"Why isn't my CLASSPATH (java.class.path) forwarded into ar unnable class inside a jar file?"
The situation is:
I have made a runnable jar file containing an ant build.xml file, a jar file containing some patch files, and a class called AntLoader.class. AntLoader are the file that are executed (inserted into the manifest). This works. The class are executed, but it can't find the package needed for starting ant.
ant.jar is in my CLASSPATH, and therefore everything works fine if I'm running AntLoader outside the jar file.
I know that I can use different ClassLoader classes for dynamicly loading of a class, but then I need a path to where ant.jar is located. And then again my system wont be general. The jar file is supposed to be distributed as a system patch to customers. And their location of where ant is installed will not be the same.
So what I'm looking for is a way to pass my CLASSPATH from my environment on to a jar file. Is that possible?
running java -classpath "${CLASSPATH}" -jar cpc.jar doesn't help at all. The java.class.path is still set to cpc.jar when I'm executing the AntLoader class inside cpc.jar.
Can anyone please help me?

Example on unix:

Despite what I said to Kayaman about Runtime.exec not expanding the asterisk, it looks like that's what's happening, so that you're getting
java -claspath library/aaaa_something_before_antlr.jar library/antlr.jar library/bbb.jar library/ccc.jar org.mypackage.TestMainProgram param1 c:/input/files c:/output/filesThat is, it *is* expanding the asterisk to a list of files in the directory, and the first one is being taken as the classpath, and the second one--library/antlr.jar is being taken as the class to execute. I'm certain this doesn't happen on Linux, so it must be a Windows thing.
Two suggestions:
1) Try single quotes instead of double.
2) Try the exec that takes an array

Power and battery problems with MacBook Pro intel core duo
Hi there, I've been having this problem for about a week now with my macbook pro where it shuts down a second after it's unplugged, even though the battery is full. I tested the power cord with another that works, and the same thing still happens. I've zapped the p-ram, and reset the MPU where you take out the battery and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and all that. I think it might be the logic board, or something within that? Any suggestions before I send it in to Apple for investigations?
I started having the same problem several days ago. Unplug the magsafe connector, and the MBP powers suddenly powers off, even though the battery shows a full charge on both the menu bar and the battery leds.
I decided to try a new battery after reading a number of posts here about the same problem.
Back to normal with the new battery. So now I'll go back to Apple to get the non-functioning battery replaced under AppleCare. (I wanted a second battery anyways)

Problems with classpath and oracle drivers
Hi, i've developed an application that uses oracle drivers "classes12.jar" using Eclipse. While i was writing the code, i manually specified the classpath which contains "classes12.jar" file using Eclipse's own configuration tool and now it works perfect when i run it under Eclipse. I then tried to run it using dos prompt but when i tried to run the program i got "ClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.driver.oracledriver". As you can guess, i thought that was a classpath issue so i set the classpath as follows:
set CLASSPATH=C:\oracle\ora92\jdbc\lib
where the directory "C:\oracle\ora92\jdbc\lib" is the one that contains classes12.jar file which i had also specified using Eclipse before.
After that, i recompiled my application and tried to launch it as follows:
->javac Test.java
->java Test
But then i got the following runtime error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Test
Since this happened after i manually set CLASSPATH variable, this has something to do with that. What should i do now? Thanks in advance.Correct - the JAR has to be spelled out in the CLASSPATH.
I'd also recommend that you not set CLASSPATH using a system environment variable. Better to use the -classpath parameter on javac.exe when you compile and java.exe when you run. Put the command into a script that you invoke when you start up the app. It'll document the fact that it's needed for anyone that comes after you and relieves you from having to change the CLASSPATH on machines you deploy to. And, for good measure, app servers like Tomcat and WebLogic totally ignore the system CLASSPATH. I don't even have one.
