Problems with clipboard in illustrator

greetings
i am doing some freeleance on a intel 10.4.11 mac running cs3. the studio here is havin issues with the following:
in illustrator:
1. cutting and pasting anything take up to a minute and a half. even text.
2. sometimes cutting and pasting between illustrator and photoshop will give error messages in the opposing program. if i am pasting from PS to Illy then the "unknown error" message box will pop up in PS. but item will actually finish pasting.
3. in illustrator there are deleted global color swatches that appear after deletion and or when cutting and pasting. the swatches are actually named "deleted global color". also, this happens with brushes, where they keep appearing after closing and saving or cutting and pasting.
4. alot of "unknown error, huh?" messages and crashes.
driving us nuts, the ladies here say they have previously reinstalled before i was here but no change (cannot tell if unistalled properly before). i have cleaned prefs and have copied new plugins and presets for illy. any help appreciated.

If you check your brushes/symbols/swatches palette, you most likely have a ton of items which really don't belong in one of those. That is what is slowing you down. You should get some speed back by clearing out these extra nonused elements, but you may find they keep coming back. If they keep coming back (or your file size is still abnormally large) you have to open the code of the file and follow the instructions in the thread.
Also do a save as and turn off PDF compatibility, to give you some relief and lots less code to have to scroll through.
Though this is not an intentionally malicous virus consider the slow copying files as infected. Copying even the smallest item from an infected file to a noninfected file spreads this every time.

i have a problem with Clipboard on iOS. My test code:

Clipboard.generalClipboard.setData(ClipboardFormats.TEXT_FORMAT, ts);
This code is OK on Android or Windows. Test string is in clipboard and i can paste it on other app. But on iOS not. setData return true, but text is not in clipboard.
Any ideas?

I'm having problems with CS2 (mainly illustrator and photoshop ) randomly shutting down while trying to save a file. Reformatted my laptop for fear of a virus and reloaded... I have gotten nowhere.

CS3 still had issues with the preferences becoming corrupt, so a possible workaround would be to reset the preferences.
The file is called AIPrefs and is located under 'Documents and Settings/User/Application Data/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings'. It is a hidden file. Delete it with Illustrator closed and when you launch the program again the file will be rebuilt.
May be it is also sounds like you need more memory for your computer. If you can navigate to your computer's memory controls, and allow your operating system to use a portion of your hard disk drive (HDD) as RAM (maybe 2Gb or so) it may solve your issue.

Problem with reinstalling Adobe Illustrator CS4 on new pc

Using a new PC with Windows 7. Upon reinstalling and inputting serial number, prompt appears..."We looked inthe default locations for qualifying products installed on this machine but none found. You may verify upgrade eligibility now by completing fields to the right." Choices given do not include Adobe Illustrator CS4. What next? I appreciate the help.

I have a disc in the same box that says CS3. I thought that was an older version. Should I try installing that disc first? It seems to have a different serial number. Thanks so much for your help. I appreciate it.

Printing problem with Epson R290 Illustrator and inDesign

I am running CS2 on Leopard and have recently purchased an Epson R290. The first time I used it with Illustrator and InDesign it worked fine but now whenever I print anything it prints a tiny version (about a sixth of the real size) of the design in the top left corner of the page. It does this both with new documents and old ones that used to print ok.

Since I posted the message about this problem I have discovered that it can be worked around by choosing a higher quality print. ie if you choose plain paper when printing from Illustrator or InDesign the printer prints a reduced size image but if you choose Ink jet mat or glossy the print comes out fine. I don't have this problem with Photoshop but that may be that I always print high quality from that application. I don't use Appleworks Draw so don't know whether this solves the problem for that application but iWork documents print ok.

I suspect that you need to adjust the in and out points of the text on the path. Try watching this tutorial, "Putting type on a path," in the Illustrator CC Creative Cloud Learn show to learn how to do this successfully.

Problems with saving in Illustrator CS3 - Windows

I'm using Illustrator CS3, Windows XP. Even the smallest files take a very long time to save. I try to save and it initally appears as if nothing is happening. If I click again, a portion of my screen goes white and the hour glass sits for what feels like forever while "Not responding" appears next to Illustrator in the bar. Eventually it finishes. Have run into the same problem with PhotoShop a couple times as well. Seems to have started after my upgrade to CS3. Can anyone help?

"it initally appears as if nothing is happening" - no-no, disk indicator should be bright and nearly no-blinking!
Solutions are (depending on the problem severity):
1. Make more layers (even for the same kind of objects, especially for texts)
2. Use RAID 5 disks for scratch files (VelocyRaptor is the best choice)
3. Use i-RAM for scratch files (if the project not too big)
4. Use RIndMA disk (http://hardwareforall.com/ww/serverRAMdisk.html) for scratch files

Problems with scaling in illustrator CS3.

Recently while working on a large file in Illustrator I've had a problem with scaling. Normally I scale with handles, and rarely with the input box. Now I can only scale with the input box. I have gone to preferences but that seems fine, (i think?). Is this a new glitch? Is their a way to solve this problem. Thanks.

Error, problem with saving documents, Illustrator

I have a problem with saving documents in Adobe Illustrator (CS6): when I import to my document some jpg, tiff etc (even it isn't huge) Illustrator is crashed ("program to stop working correctly because of a problem. Windows will close the program and notify you if there is a solution available."). Next: program close.
But when I work only with objects from AI - everything is ok - any error, I can save it.
I have reinstalled and updated AI. And nothing changed.
What is a problem?

Problems with printing in Illustrator CS5 - Last Chance

So here's my problem:
I own a small scale graphic design studio and from time to time I print letterheads, business cards and other fun stuff from my printer.
Few weeks back the text starts to look "jagged/pixelated" around the edges and the same for vector artwork. (For example see www.tohei.dk, the logo there somewhat represents what comes out of my printer, though not quite as bad). It is mostly with diagonal lines like in the letter M or K.
I've spent countless hours (and paper and ink) trying to solve the problem. I've even called Adobe Technical Support in Denmark, but no help there.
The strange thing is that in Photoshop, Microsoft Word and other programs the print is as perfect as ever, so that eliminates the printer as the problem. It is ONLY in Illustrator the problem occurs. I've run tests on my old windows computer with CS4 and there is no problem there either.
The printer is a Canon IP4700 and is 4 months old. I run MAC OS X 10.6.3 and Design Premium CS5.
I think that about covers it. This is my last chance as I have no idea how to fix it!!

Save as PDF and print from Acrobat.
The Canon printer is not a Postscript printer, therefor it prints the low resolution preview of any Illustrator file. You need a RIP (Raster Image Processor). Acrobat is a software RIP which will translate the postscript data to a raster format yielding better print results. The reason Photoshop, Word, etc print fine is they are sending raster data to the printer, not postscript data.

Problem with typing in illustrator

When ever I hold down the shift key when I am typing in illustrator nothing comes up. It completely ignores every character I try to put in. Lower case works but upper does not. Has anyone heard of this or knows a fix I could use? I am not sure what I hit to make it do this.

I have the same issue with a font I want to use. Works fine in word programs, note pad, simple text, MS Word. It will show up in Illustrator's font list but when I select it my type disappears! Yes, it was a free download. I have tryed a lot of things, re-downloaded same file, I have used three computers with illus, I downloaded the pc version(TTF), tryed that, then I converted it to Mac, I tryed it on an older machine and Illus 6.0, I tryed to resave the font and export outlines in FontMonger, tryed to resave as type1 and type3 - nothing, Font Dr. says it's ok but FontBook says there are major problems when I activate it. I don't know what the problem is with this font. Seems like it has the preview info but no outline data. If I know how Illus uses fonts differently than other programs I would have a better idea as to how to fix it. I hope Illus isn't doing something so people will only use Adobe fonts... who knows, no one from Adobe is talking - from google searches, this has been a known issue for a long time.

Problems with the fullpage-illustration in iphoto

I have the follwowing problem: the little pictures in the preview are corectlly to be seen, but if I try to get the fullpage-illustration, there is only a grey field with a broken line of a square with an axclamation mark in the middle.

It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
Your choices now are two fold:
1. restore things to the way they were
or
Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library Folder allowing it to overwrite the damaged file. If not, then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
I'm guessing that you renamed the folder to make finding the pics easier? There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Rolls in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.

Problem with eps transparency, Illustrator CS4

I truly hope you can help me with this because I really can't find the answer myself.
I need to save eps-versions of the files I make in the Illustrator.
I have made a script (using Javascript) to get the right settings for eps automatically and it has worked fine, but now that I upgraded to CS4 there's suddenly a problem. Script used to work so that any excess transparency around the image was cropped off. Now it remains there and causes problems later in the processes where these eps-files are used.
If I look at the eps-files in the Photoshop I can see that the size of the artboard remains there as transparency.
Here are the settings for saving eps in the script:

I need a solution where the tranparency is cropped off, but the artboard area is never made larger by the script...
Any ideas? Anyone?

Trouble with clipboard between Illustrator & Photoshop

I'm having trouble when I copy and paste items from Illustrator into Photoshop. When I create a new PS document with the preset "Clipboard" selected, ordinarily the document should auto-size based on whatever item is on your clipboard. The clipboard is sizing with the same proportion as my copied item - but far smaller. For example, a vector that is 12cm x 12cm in Illustrator resizes the PS canvas to 2.88cm x 2.88cm.
I have played with the PS preference settings such as "Export clipboard"and in Illustrator the "Include SVG code", "PDF" and "AICB" settings. None of it helps.
Have just upgraded to CC, have a brand new iMac. I'm wondering if there is something going on with the actual Mac clipboard itself, maybe it's affected by Anti Virus software??
Would appreciate some help, I copy and paste from Ill to PS constantly, this is driving me crazy!

I beleive someone mentioned that this is a known bug in photoshop.
When creating a new document in photoshop, pay attention to whether the dimentions are in percentages or a physical size. Ppi will only work for one and not the other.
