Problems with colour correction

Hey,
I am working on my first trailer for a feature film I shot. You can check out about the project at: http://www.alifemovie.com
My question is when I apply 3-way CC to my footage it looks OK in the Canvas but when I export out to the web via "Quicktime Conversion" and I compress it with H.264 codec it looks horrible.
Why is that? Any ideas? Also any ideas as to how to apply image control? I try to "de-saturate" as video looks too saturated for my tastes. I would love to hear people ideas. I shot my film "A Life" with the Panasonic DVX100 in 24p Advanced.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi:
Posting a capture of both screens can help.
Are you using a DV sequence (PAL or NTSC)? If you use a DVCPRO50 timeline you'll get better color space after the color correction.
Are you ewxporting directly from FCP timeline through Compressor? That way you'll get the most of the quality, in particular when aplying effects like CC.
My 2 cents !
Hope that helps !

  • Problem with colour correction

Hi, I am not able to use the colour correction filter (3-way) on the project I am working on, or any new projects I create. I am however able to use it when I on a previous project. Has anyone got any ideas on why this may be? I am using FCP 5.1.4
    Thanks

I was having the same problem but i fixed it for me.
go to sequence, settings, render control and check filters and frame blending for speed under render and play back.
    hope that works

  • Gradient Problems with colours

Hi I am new to Illustrator (just bought CS5) and I am having trouble with the colours when using gradients (colours are generally duller as well) but when I make a gradient from red to black the computer automatically puts a grey inbetween, (photoshop has no problems the colours are clear and bright)  I recently did a tutorial http://veerle.duoh.com/design/article/illustrator_inset_effect_on_text_in_combination_with _clipping_mask (she had the same tutorial in photoshop, which worked great) but my colours in illustrator are having this grey issue and the image came out looking very dull.
Is there some file setting I may have changed to cause this?
    Thank you

The color setup in AI is trying to simulate the way CMYK actually looks in print. Sometimes the simulated display goes overboard, and it's impractical to write you a textbook on the whole color management (color calibration) subject in a user forum. (Plus, replies in a user forum are as often wrong as right.) There is plenty of reading material out there for you on this. (Start with the Help files, as the Color Settings dialog suggests.)
When designing for CMYK print, work in a CMYK document. Switching color modes is bad practice, especially if you intend for your on-press values to actually be the values you specify in the document. For example:
    1. Set up your red (100M, 100Y) to black (100K) grad.
    2. Change Document Color Mode to RGB.
    3. Change Document Color Mode to CMYK.
    4. Look at what has happened to your original CMYK values.
The best way to work in CMYK is to have a basic understanding of CMYK and the real-world principles of process printing. For example, if you do as Jacob suggests, and make the black end of your grad also contain the "red" (100M, 100Y), you will have a 300% total ink coverage at that end of your grad. That may or may not be a problem, depending on the target printing environment.
Generally speaking, yes; CMYK print is almost always "dull" compared to viewing RGB on a monitor (and you are always viewing RGB on a monitor, even if it is shifted to simulate CMYK). This is true regardless of color calibration. Common sense goes a long way. Monitors glow; paper doesn't.
One of the most overlooked facts is that human vision is highly adaptive. Even in RGB, your monitor never displays anything even approaching a true black. Yet your eye nonetheless sees a dark rich black.
CMYK process, for example, is very poor at reproducing brilliant blues. Yet the combination of knowledgeable image color correction (as opposed to mere calibration), quality printing, and the adaptive nature of human vision can nonetheless result in printed blues that seem to "glow."
If you're designing for commercial print, you should seek to understand the process enough that you would be comfortable assigning colors while working on a grayscale monitor. Again, that comes from both study and real-world exposure. Actually visit the press room whenever you have the opportunity. Maybe even take a course in commercial repro at the local tech school. You can't really gain the understanding you need in a software user forum. This is a huge subject.

  • 5700 TV-OUT problem with colours

Hi!!! I'm trying to fix the problem with my vga, but I could not get it fixed... The problem is that sice yesterday the colours in TV-Out mode is wrong, it appears that is on iverse colours, but I cannot change it. I had already reinstaled the nVidia 56.72 driver, reinstaled Windows XP SP1, and didn't work. Earlier today, I tried to connect the composite video cable and get the right colours, but just before I connected the S-Video again to check if the colours was right as composite, but for my sadness, it wasn't. Then I reconnected the composite and the colours was worg that out too, now the two TV-Outs, composite and S-Video are with the wrog colours... I don't know what else to do... help me!!!
    Thank you anyway.

    Hi,
Try changing the TV standard. Brazil uses a less common PAL-M standard, which uses NTSC line and field rates (525 lines,60 fields/sec) and a unique colour subcarrier frequency, which is close to the standard NTSC frequency.  For more details on TV standards, look here.
You might have to experiment to find the combination which works best with your TV set.

  • MacBook Pro display....problem with coloured pixels appearing

I wonder if anyone can help - I have recently noticed on the left hand side of my display on my MacBook Pro that there is a large number of coloured pixels appearing more and more by the day. I have had the MacBook since Christmas, and it has been treated very well, i have never dropped it or damaged it in any way etc. At the moment the pixels aren't causing too much of a problem but i don't want it to get any worse. Has anyone had similar problems, and if so any suggestions?
    Many thanks in advance

I haven't had any luck what so ever - only thing left for me to try is to completely wipe the system and re-install everything from scratch, if that doesn't work then i think i'll be contacting Apple..... which i should have done already to be honest, would have saved a lot of time and hassle! Only difference between mine and what your describing on your Mac is that the pixels are visible at all times on mine, no matter what apps i'm running etc, it is definately a problem with the screen.....i'll keep you updated with any developments

  • Ongoing problem with colour in CS4 .

I have been battling this problem for about 18 months now. I am certain I am doing everything correctly and I am at a loss to know what I can try next!.  I have an Epson 1410 printer and am using CS4 with  windows Vista. I callibrate my monitor regularly and have developed my own paper profiles using a Color Munki.I have a reasonably good DEL U2410 flat screen monitor. I know how to use my printer- paper  profiles and switch off colour management of the printer. I custom -proof my images before printing but they come out nothing like my proof. They are much, much, much darker, often muddy looking and often with a green cast. I feel sure it something to do with Photoshop and not the printer as after discussing the issue with Epson they advised me to download "Epson Easy Photo Print" and use it for a test print. "If the print is OK" they said "then the problem must be with Photoshop". Well I did, and it was! ( well heaps better anyway) Although I have more or less learnt how to compensate for the extra darkness and colour cast by increasing exposure and changing the colour balance dramatically before printing to get a half decent  print I feel frustrated that after spending heaps of money on color munki and upgraded my monitor to solve this problem that I am no better off! I have wasted SO much paper and ink trying to get decent prints by trial and error. I have paid a "Photoshop proffessional" to come to my home on one occasion. PLEASE can somebody help. What would you do ??

Maybe post screen shots of your print setup and even one of your images to see what it looks like on another monitor. I recently had an issue with an epson profile i was choosing, which was wrong. i had 2 different profiles for epson glossy, one had a different 2 letter code in front and after finally trying the other one,my printing returned to normal.may be totally unrelated to your issue, but i figured i would throw it out there.

  • Problem with colours and tonalty in LR 1.1 conversions

Im having hard times trying to get great colour and tonalty out of LR conversions. Some times it seems that its just impossible to get there where I want with LR. No matter how much I tweak sliders in Calibration Tab or in Colour Adjustment Tab, subtle tones and colours are just impossible to get.
    Example
Both pictures have been edited in converters only resizing and text has been inserted in photoshop. Picture taken with Konica Minolta 7D.
    http://luotokuva.fi/noudettavat/Oranssi_2.jpg
    1. Under cloud there is subtle colour gradient with DxO conversion that LR conversion lacks
    2. Colour transitions in DxO versions have much more life. There is just one tone on lake in LR vesion.
    3. Suns reflection in LR conversion clips and is ugly. Again DxO verson has far more natural tonalty.
For those who believe they can do better job with LR conversion here is the raw file for them to play.
    http://www.luotokuva.fi/noudettavat/PICT0906.zip
I hope LR conversions would be better because programs usability is far better than DxOs.
    -Sampsa Kaijaluoto - Finland

The problem is not in the tone, but in the lack in the number of tones. I can change the colors, but i can't get the colors to slide in a perfect gradient. Look these images:
This is how the area around the sun should look (Canon DPP)
    http://jkphoto.pp.fi/upload/sun_dpp.jpg
And this is how Lr converts it with defaults:
    http://jkphoto.pp.fi/upload/sun_acr.jpg
In past i have done accurate profiles for my cameras to ACR with the color checker and calibration script and calibration has no effect on how the tones just clip off.

  • Tran.FBL1N - problem with showing correct amount regarding partial paymants

    Hello,
Every day at my workplace I use transaction FBL1N which I use to see how much money I own to vendors and also to se how much is payed. However I have problem whit showing payed amounts for partial paymants (transaction F-59). For example:
I own some vendor EUR 20.000,00 and I decide to pay him EUR 15.000,00 using partial paymant option (transaction F-59) because that's amount I have at the moment on my bank account. After that, when I choose that vendor using transaction FBL1N (with enabled option Open items on current date) so I coiuld see how much it is left to pay him, amount EUR 15.000,00 is not subtracted and reprt is still showing me that I own him EUR 20.000,00 which ofcourse is not correct.
I also must note that in case I payed that vendor full amount I wouldn't have this problem and transaction FBL1N would show correct amount.
I hope someone can advise me about this and help me solve my issue.
Any help is appreciated and many thanks in advance for prompt replys.
    Cheers;)

thnx loky46, I understand it better now - I hva one more important question regarding this:
Is there any way I can found total amount I own to one or more vendors (_regardless_ if it is full or partial paymant or combination of both paymants)? For example:
    Line 1 || VENDOR I || Eur 20.000,00 RE
    Line 2 || VENDOR I || Eur 15.000,00 AB
    TOTAL                     Eur   5.000,00
    but without using this option:
you have to add the field "invoice reference" to your line layout and make a subtotal on it.
Also, is it possible for line Eur 15.000,00 to become Close item because that part is payed and for rest of amount of Eur 5.000 to be Open item because is still not payed. I assume this can't be done but on this way I could now exact total amount of money which I own to my vendor(s) and it would be a of great help to me in every-day work.
    Thank you.

  • Problem with colour after deinterlacing with JES

    Hi all,
For all my HD AVCHD stuff I have been successfully using clipwrap followed by deinterlacing with JES deinterlacer (with conversion to AIC, doubling fps) before importing to Final cut pro x.  This has been working great. However....
when I now try a similar procedure with some old SD mpg footage it all goes pear shaped.
I first convert the files to AIC using MPEG streamclip (also uncompressing the sound)
I then use JES deinterlacer to deinterlace the clip.
both the interlaced and deinterlaced clips play fine in quicktime with no problems.
However when I import into FCPX the deinterlaced clips are a deep red in hue
the interlaced version's colour is fine (which you can see in the timeline), but strangely FCPX doesn't recognise it as being interlaced.
any ideas why I am getting this red hue (but not in quicktime) and any quick fixes?
    thanks in advance
    Colin

If your "white on black" setting is on, turn it OFF, click Settings App>General>at bottom Accessibility>White on Black, click it OFF. If this setting is already OFF, then a simple fix for some LCD color problems is a Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons for about 15 seconds, the iPhone will turn off itself and then restart. If you still have the color problem, you could try a Firmware Restore in iTunes.

  • Problems with colours - Photoshop to InDesign to PDF

I have created a small header image in Photoshop. It consists of a background with a number of layers using blue and grey (the grey is RGB: 202, 202, 202). I placed the image in InDesign and then converted to press quality PDF for printing. In InDesign I have also created a number of shapes (rectangles with rounded corners) which I have made the same grey colour (202, 202, 202). On the screen everything looks the same grey, however, when I convert to a PDF and print, the grey in the image I placed from Photoshop looks a completely different grey colour to the rectangle shapes I created in InDesign with the same background colour. The grey colour I am using is all 202, 202, 202.
Why when I print are there completely different shades of grey?

I checked with our IT dept and the links I sent previously are in public folders, so there shouldn't be any need to log on anywhere.
    Anyway, do these work?

    https://fileexchange.imperial.ac.uk/files/503745fea71/Banner_template_no_pics_new_colour.p ng
I just converted the Photoshop image mode in Photoshop to CMYK and created a rectangle shape with the same grey colour underneath it and printed it directly from Photoshop. I then converted the image to PNG and placed in InDesign, created a grey rectangle underneath the banner image and printed directly from InDesign and finally I converted to press quality pdf and printed. All still have the same colour difference between the grey colours. It appears to me that it is something to do with Photoshop, because the greys WHEN PRINTED in photoshop all look the same but strange - kind of washed out with some magenta in it. They look fine on the screen. If placed in InDesign as a PNG image, the grey still looks okay on screen as it does in Photoshop, alongside a grey rectangle created in InDesign. However, when printed the difference in grey is considerable.
The weird thing is the Photoshop grey looks weird - kind of washed out with some magenta in it.

  • Problems with colour profiles

    Hi,
Since I reinstalled Win7 and Photoshop, every time I open a document it is in the "working RGB" colour profile, which makes the document whitish. So I have to assign another profile, namely the one associated with my monitor.
But I have to do this every time I open a document, even if it's the same document !
Is there a way to tell Photoshop that I want him to open all documents with my monitor's profile ?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    zibizibi wrote:
I would love to recalibrate my monitor but what does that mean exactly ?
Generally this involves the purchase of a separate mesurement device to measure the colors of your monitor, and attendant software to create a profile and put it in the right place for your color-managed applications to use.
There are upsides and downsides to doing this (for example, a calibrated/profiled system will almost always show the same image differently in different applications, depending on which is color-managed).  You should try to read up on Color Management and really understand what it's all about - and weigh that against your goals.
Notably Windows ships with sRGB as the default monitor profile, probably because this is a minimum common denominator setup and it does provide somewhat more consistency.  It may not be as valid as it used to be, as modern monitor capabilities exceed the sRGB space by ever more, however.
