Problems with CS3 and CS4 installations

Hello, I have a problem when I install any product CS3 or CS4. When the program starts establishing, a window appears in the one that says " verifying the profile of the system " but the window being blocked always to 90 %. Does someone know the solution?

This is a fairly common problem. Has to do with orphaned files on your system which have to be cleaned first up to make it work. Use the search above and type in installation fails at 90%.

Mouse pointer Problem with CS3 and windows 7

Upgraded
to a new PC which has Windows 7(32bit) as an operating system. Installed my Photoshop CS3 and everything seems ok except when I magnify in the navagator panel. Once I zoom in my mouse pointer changes to 3 hands in the navigator panel. I powered up my old laptop which has Vista and my CS3
then matched up the mouse settings in the control panel on the new PC. Used the same usb mouse on both PC's, the older Vista laptop worked fine but the windows 7 PC would get a tripple pointer in the navigation panel when I magnified. In the windows 7 laptop I then set the compatibility for Photoshop CS3 to run in XP mode but the problem did not clear. I see in FAQ for CS4 people have complained about tripple cursers in windows 7 but the replies indicated that the recommended fix did not work. Any help apreciated.

Thanks for your solution. I by changing the setting to 125% I am now able to use CS3 without tripple pointers.
My eyesight is challenged so the decrease in text is a challenge but I can change the setting when I will use CS3 so I have a workarount.

Printing Problems with CS3 and Epson R1800

Recently upgraded to CS3 and have now lost most printing options for Epson Stylus Photo R1800. Had no problems with CS2 running in Leopard. Anyone know what has happened?

Getting very nice results with an R1800, Inkjetfly CIS, and Red River paper. The R1800 has never had Epson ink run through it and has no abnormal clogging problems. In fact, clogs are rare.
Getting near perfect matches to the monitor with both Colorvision and x-rite calibrating/profiling equipment. The printer stays on 24-7 so the only ink used, other than printing, is a periodic nozzle check. I am not alone in this, so blanket statements like the above are specious at best.
And no, I don't sell prints for big bux, so whether they are going to last a hundred years is not a concern. Besides, until someone is around long enough to verify those claims, the jury is out. I've got color prints from the wet days that are fading after 20+ years. Third party inks are not necessarily lower quality than OEM. One of the reasons for the development of high quality third party inks was the dissatisfaction of B&W and fine art printers with the OEM products.
Of course the cheap refilled/knockoff carts being hawked on ebay and the like are a different story.

Problems with CS3 and Epson 4800

I am running Leopard on a Pro tower with CS3. I have a Dell laser printer along with a 4800. A few weeks ago, I set the Dell to be the default printer. All my prints on the Epson started coming out extremely flat, not matching my calibrated monitor at all. I finally set the 4800 to be the default printer and the prints looked normal again. No idea why that would happen. It baffles me. Driver conflict?
However, I am still having two problems. First, when I soft proof, the soft proof screen looks nothing like the print. I am selecting the correct print profile in the Custom screen. The soft proof looks dark and weird.
Second, the gamut warning is greyed out and unavailable to me, regardless of anything I try.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong or suggestions for fixes?

Problems with iMac and CS4

Hi out there! I`m a sales-person at an Apple-Premium-Reseller in Austria and I`m having troubles with a customers iMac (27'', 3,06GHz, 6GB Ram, ATI-HD4670 graphics with 256mb) running CS4. The problems are mainly when using Indesign. For example if I have a 4-page document with a few layers/transparency and i go to overprint-preview, it takes very long for it to load the images/preview, and when I move the pages they sometimes freeze/jolt when moving. If its a lager document (the customer is a graphic designer, often has to deal with 60+ pages and more, so thats a bit annoying) its even worse.
Since the hardware is a relatively new iMac with 256MB graphic, I assume that there's a software issue. Its runnign MacOs 10.6.5, I did all updates on both Mac and Adobe.
Has anyone heard about similar problems? Could it be that the graphic-card in this iMac is to weak?

What sizes are the images? "Overprint preview" pulls on the full resolution of all images. If they are hefty, it would be no surprise that the computer is bogging down.
There is an InDesign forum here that may offer more assistance.

Activation problems with CS3 and PS6

I own CS3 standard edition for Windows. Recently I upgraded Photoshop only to CS6.
All works well with PS/CS6. However, when I go back to use CS3 applications, the programs won't run. In Acrobat - the program I'm trying to run now - I get the error "Adobe Acrobat 8.1.3 cannot be launched..." and am told to open another CS3 program. I tried that, only to be told my CS3 is no longer registered.
I got out the CS3 disks, entered the serial number, and am now told I have too many activations. This makes no sense at all, as I just removed CS3 from my laptop.
Can someone tell me how I can run my CS3 programs with PS/CS6? I cannot afford to update the whole suite; that's just not an option.

Hi Ed B,
First, if I understand your initial question, you have two fully purchased licensed Adobe products: CS3 Standard and PS6. Second, you had CS3 installed on your desktop and laptop…within Adobe is licensing agreement. Third, when you began to experiencing problems, you uninstalled CS3 from your laptop and proceeded to reregister CS3 on your desktop—I can help you with that.
If you did not “deactivate” CS3 on your laptop prior to its uninstallation, it’s still showing as one of your two permissible registrations. I ran into the same issue with CS5.5 after a rebuild. I had to call Adobe licensing division and tell them what I did; they corrected my error on their part and I was good to go. For future uninstalls:
fire up any CS3 app
click the Help button on the main menu
select “Deactivate”
then uninstall your product.
Now, as to PS3 and PS6 being on the same system…there’s no problem. Just make sure that PS6 has its own/correct license number. To check this is the same method as when you deactivate:
Open PS6
click Help button
select Activate and make sure the code displayed is correct, or put in the new product code.
After that, you should be good to go.

CS3 and CS4 installation

I just got a new HD for my late 2006 MBP and put SL on it and did a TM restore with all my docs and apps.
CS3 started giving me this licensing error:

I tried the Licensing Service Update and I ran the CS3 Clean Script and reinstalled. I called Adobe, they told me to uninstall, run the CS3 Clean Script and then to make a new user on my Mac and install CS3 from that account. I did this, installing from the original discs (legit student copies, not bootlegs).
Still doesn't work.
I'm thinking of calling Adobe again, but they were pretty much useless and only telling me things I already knew last time. It was also a 30 minute wait before speaking to anyone.
Any ideas anyone?

It appears I solved this.
I tried installing CS4 to see if that would work. CS3 isn't really supported in SL, so I figured, what the heck.
Well, I got the same error as in CS3 but then I read Adobe's Knowledgebase article for CS4.

I came to the section about renaming the FLEXNET folder, /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/FLEXnet folder. I couldn't rename "FLEXnet Publisher" or "FLEXnet folder". I tried all the usual permissions tricks inside the Get Info box with no luck (making myself the owner, giving myself r/w/e, etc.)
I finally went into the terminal and entered this to move to the Preferences folder:
cd /Library/Preferences
and entered this to renamed the "FLEXnet Publisher" folder with root permissions (that's what sudo does)
sudo mv FLEXnet\ Publisher/ FLEXnet\ Publisher2/
You'll be prompted to enter your password and then it renames it.
Then I opened Photoshop and a new FLEXnet Publisher folder was created and PS launched okay.

There is one thing the script can't do it for me.

I got a lot of topics or points in the passage. And I want to change the space between '(g)' and 'Management' into a tab character. So I revised the plain text file 1text.
PS: 1text.txt is filled with what to change.

I have to say "you are genius". I used to use the indesign CS2. There is no GREP function in CS2. When I get the new script, I do not know how to use it. Just when I saw the

Problems with Password and Printer Installation

I recently have been trying to install a deskjet and when I put in the installation disc and it asks me my password, I type it in and get the response
The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access priveleges.
I a) know my password is correct b) I was the only acount (therefore I had to be the administrator) until I went through the steps to make another administrator account so I could be sure that I was using the right password and acount. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!
I also know that when I purposely type in the wrong password, it tells me it is the wrong password, not the message I receive when I type in the right one.
I'd appreciate any help

Anyone else having a Problem with Leopard and Photoshop CS3?

I'm using CS3 with Leopard 10.5.4 at work and there are some very aggravating anomalies, that I'd like to nail down to a cause. Most frequently, when switching from apps to P'Shop, the menu bar stays for the previous app, i.e. when going from Finder to P'shop, the menu bar still says Finder and has Finder options. Changing from Lightwave to P'Shop, the menu bar remains Lightwave.
Occasionally, an Adobe app - P'Shop or InDesign - will simply disappear and not come back. The icon in the dock shows it as active, but no amount of clicking, Command-Tabbing will reveal the app and I have to Force Quit, losing unsaved changes.
I have a feeling it's Leopard, since, I've used CS3 on Tiger and CS4 on Tiger and never had a problem.
I'm wondering if upgrading to the latest Leopard would make much of a difference.
Has anyone come across this and found any kind of answers?

Right. If someone is having a problem associated with Tiger, it's PEBAK. If Leopard is involved, it's automatically because of Leopard. Apparently, with Apple's latest OS, trouble shooting problems are no longer necessary - just blame it on Leopard and call it a day.

After admonishing him for not providing more information about his setup by posting the obnoxious big blue link on how to ask questions (ahem - we know NOTHING about his machine or configuration, such as which machine, how much RAM, scratch disk or attached peripherals), there'd be all kinds of trouble shooting advice given - "try a new user", "repair permissions", "run DiskWarrior, and on and on ...
But no, since he mentions Leopard, none of that is apparently necessary and the completely, utterly
b irresponsible
advice is given ... "that's just the way Leopard is".
Those are some serious problems he's reporting that have nothing to do with Leopard. Something is obviously hosed!
As for discounting my experience because I don't use every app in the suite as extensively as I do Photoshop, I'm FAR more qualified to discuss Leopard and CS issues than Ann or Neil who do not use Leopard at all (and have never used it as far as I know.)
"Others have problems with it", is their battle cry but it's extremely weak. Do I really need to remind you all that these forum are ALWAYS filled with people who have problems, regardless of version or OS? You act as if this forum was a ghost town when Tiger and CS3 were current!
Gee, Ann ... people are STILL reporting problems with 10.5 and CS3? How shocking! Guess what - people are STILL reporting problems with 10.4 and CS3 too! Let me make a prediction - people will have problems with 10.8 and CS9!

Yes. You do. Even if you never type a single line of text, every application uses fonts to create menus and other GUI items. If one of those fonts are bad, it can create all kinds of problems, including the very problems you mention.
The fact that you don't seem aware of this and you're still using 10.5.4 leads me to believe you're not familiar with the basic practices of maintaining a healthy system. Again, how did you install Leopard on that machine?
Look, if you're simply trying to justify using CS4, go right ahead. It's a worthwhile upgrade in it's own right. However, if you install it on that machine in it's current state, CS4 will NOT fix your problems because you do NOT have a healthy system.

and STILL not have your issues. I haven't experienced anything like your CS3 problems in Leopard - on both a 2006 Mac Pro and a 2008 Macbook.

Enabling Installation of CS3 and CS4 products that will not install on Windows 7 64Bit.

Adobe installers are not known for their helpful or forgiving ways & I have more than once had to reinstall Windows when installation of CS3 and CS4 products has failed with patently inscrutable errors.
The background to the current issue that I was attempting to install PS CS4 on a W7 system which already had CS CS3 installed. The CS4 installer threw up inscrutable messages indicating that the installation could not proceed and to contact Adobe (they are joking right ? Their phone & web support is notoriously UN-helpful).
After reading through threads suggesting that I uninstall CS3, apply CS3 and CS4 cleaning scripts I was in exactly same position I have found myself in on least 2 occasions with WinXP. By this time I couldn't event get CS CS3 to reinstall!
Then I decided to review the event log and found a number of installer events thrown up by the Adobe installers resembling "Error 1402. Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\xxxxxxxx".
I tracked down this very helpful solution which allowed me to change the registry permissions on the parent key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\ Components and propagate the new permissions down to the child keys.

My advice is to follow instructions for "A More All-Encompassing Solution" and propagate the permissions right down to all the child keys as I could see a number of separate adobe installer errors in the event log. Also note the instruction to change the Owner from 'System' to 'Administrators' in Advanced settings. This is necessary in order for the Permissions change to be accepted and replace all the child object permissions.
As with most registry changes good advice to backup your registry hive first (although I didn't; by this time I was already expecting to have to reinstall Windows) and restart your system after making the registry changes before attempting to install / reinstall CS3 or CS4 products.
Hope this solution works as well for others as it did for me as the Adobe support on this issue has been next to useless.
[P.S. Q: Did you hear the joke about the guy who worked on product installation at Adobe rocking up at job interview with 'Adobe Installation Project Team' on his Resume? A: That that is the joke! If you wanted another job in installation development you would hardly admit to experience at Adobe ;)]

I don't use LR and rarely use the bridge so I can not answers about thumbnails in them, However thumbnails in windows file explorer and windows dialog for CS2 files will only show if you have installed codec into windows that will produce them. Windows does not do CR2 thumbnails on its own. I use FastPictureViewer Codec package for RAW File and PSD files thunbmail support.

this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem?

I have the MacIntosh volume and the Boot Camp partition only. I know that when I installed Lion, I had to go through a whole back-up and recovery of Windows and then re-format the drive.
The tech at the Apple Store had a previous life as a MSCE and was very helpful. I believe he even said that I should not have htis problem with Mountain Lion which is why they gave me the flash with it onboard. I was in the process of starting a new job when I went to Lion, so I have waited to do this next and probably last upgrade to this old MBP since I doubt Apple will support this MBP in Maverick.
I do not have another installation, so that is not an option. I will try to create an external, I have plenty of hard drives around and see if I can get it done that way. It might take me a week or two to get back to it, but I will comment back upon completion of that effort. Thanks for your help....Dave Iverson
