  • HT1526 I'm trying to delete files from the trash and an .InProgress file in Time Machine that cannot be moved to the trash. I cannot unmount the TM disk either.  If I use the chflags -R nouchg  command, I get a "Resource busy" message. Any suggestions?

    I've got one or maybe two problems.  Time Machine routinely crashes and there is a file in the TM folder that is an .InProgress file at the end of successful backups. Can't delete it, even using various sudo commands in Terminal.  These come back with a "Resource busy" message.
    Similarly, there is a Microsoft Office alias in my trash that will not delete, again including various delete or Terminal commands.  Also "Resource busy"
    I can't reformat the TM volume since it cannot unmount and it also cannot unmount the whole disk, which contains some other backup files I'd rather keep.
    Any suggestions?
    Mike

    I'm not sure I can be very helpful since I was doing a lot of things and ultimately the problems went away.  But one thing that definitely seemed to help was to shut down, restart, do something, shut down again and repeat.  So with a clean start, try to move the file to the trash.  If that works, shut down restart and look to see if it is still in the trash.  Empty the trash. Shut down if it appears to empty and then restart.  It seemed sometimes that the computer was doing what I wanted then something was overriding this and restoring.  The shutdowns immedately after I could do something but before it engaged an override operation seemed to keep this from happening.
    Sorry to not have more to offer but...

  • Can't see deleted files in the trash

    Hello,
    When i delete a file I am not asked any longer with the warning message if I am sure I want to delte and most of all the file does not appear in the trash folder.
    Any hint?
    catch you later
    Steph.

    Hi Steph,
    It sounds as if ali's diagnosis was more likely the problem. Glad that it is all well again and that my suggestion led you to fix something unrelated!
    By the way, just a suggestion, but in the future you may want to post OS Usage questions concerning your 10.5 OS in Using Mac OS X Leopard forum as many problems using the OS can vary greatly from one OS version to the next.

  • Problem with moving items to the trash

    Whenever i move items to the trash, i get a pop up window that asks me to type my password because "Finder wants to make changes". when i type my password, the item is moved to the trash but automatically is cleared from the trash, so when i open the trash there is never anything in it.
    Although my trash folder is clean from items, I still running out of hard drive space as if the trash hasn't been cleaned at all
    It all started happenning when switched to OSX Lion.
    How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks
    Aner

    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
    Move the com.apple.finder.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
    Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Problem with deleting files !!

    I want to delete file, but for some extensions it is not possible, how can I delete all files?
    I use
    myFile.delete();

    How about the return value from your delete call, is it "true"? What happens when you try to delete the file via your OS? Why do you seem to think that this behavior is specific to certain file extensions? Which extensions are you having trouble with?
    Sorry for all the questions. Just as a guess, I think the most common reason for a delete call not to work on a Windows box is because the file is in use by some other program - an editor, or maybe a web server. Trying to delete the file via the OS might give you a better idea of why it's not deleting.
    good luck

  • Problem with deleting record from the report.

    This is my first post here, just to let you know I just started playing with Apex.
    Here we go:
    I have a page with report where the link to the record I have changed with ULR to the javascript:
    javascript:doDelete(#RECORD_ID#)
    I have created javascript in the HTML Header of the page
    <script>
    function doDelete(id) {
    if (confirm("Are you sure you want to delete selected record?"))
    $x('P3_DEL_ID').value=id;
    doSubmit('DELETE');
    </script>
    and finally created a process for the page On Submit - After Computations and Validations.
    declare
    var_id number := :p3_del_id;
    begin
    commit;
    Delete from mytable where record_id = var_id;
    commit;
    end;
    I don't get error messages but record is not deleted.
    Thanks for help in advance.
    Robert

    Robert,
    That's the problem. With that type selected, change the value in the textbox to just: DELETE

  • Problem with deleting files from new Zen St

    I recently bought a Zen Stone and today needed to delete some files. Did this from Windows (like with my Zen Nano), but this did not free any space on the Stone.
    Went to browse files (albums) on Stone and found several names that did not show up in either a Windows Explorer or Media Lite search.
    Apparently when I deleted the old files, they did not actually get deleted (guess I have to use Media Lite to do this)
    Any suggestions as to how to remove these files without reformatting?

  • Problem with Offline Files with Cisco NSS322 (firmware 1.3)

    Hi
    We've recently bought a new NSS322 NAS box to replace an ageing Windows SBS 2003 file server. We've upgraded the firmware to 1.3, and begun moving files across from the Windows server to the new NAS box. However, we're having a problem with Offline Files on the NAS, as attempting to make directories available offline on Windows clients (only tried Vista Business 32-bit so far) we get loads of errors stating that these files cannot be made available offline "because they are in use" (or something like that).
    Any suggestions as to why this might be? It doesn't appear to affect all files, but most of them.
    I've read somewhere that the "allow oplocks" setting can affect this if disabled, but it is already enabled on the device, so this can't be the cause of the problem.
    Any help you could provide would be much appreciated, as at the moment this issue is rendering our NAS unusable as we rely heavily on the offline files functionality.
    Thanks in advance.
    I have some more information - this appears to be related to the ownership permissions of the files on the NAS. New files created on the NAS can be made available offline, and have the ownership of the person who created the file, however, the files we moved across from the server are all listed as being owned by the user "guest" (I think this may be related to the fact that when we moved the files over, the user was logged in as "admin" rather than a user on the AD Domain). I should be able to resolve this through changing the owner of the files on the NAS, but I can't seem to do this, as I get an "access denied" error each time I try to change ownership.

    Is there any chance someone's going to be able to help me with this? I've currently spent £500 on a box that I can't use. If it can't handle Offline Files satisfactorily, it's no use to us.
    I've been looking at this a bit more - if appears that each user can make files they have created available offline, but files created by other people cannot - the error message that appears is: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".
    I'm getting desperate here...can anyone help?

    Sorry, but I don1 speak very good english..
    I was Try this quick test: As a quick test, you can do a forward all and make sure you can get into the ftp server.
    but result it is to same.
    I think, that problem is in firmware, becasue I know more people who own this router with to same firmware version (2.0.1.3), and have they to same problem how I.
    I have DISABLED FIREWALL on my router and problem hold over.
    If I replace router Cisco Linksys WRVS4400N by Ovislink router or any other, issue (problem) already no is.
    Configuration in Cisco Linksys WRVS4400N and configurations in any other router is to same, but FTP connection via Cisco Lynksys always will crash.
    If I connect to any other FTP server, sometimes requieres from me ftp login and password. It is OK, but if I assign login and password, after connect me to this FTP server, i see folders and files on this server, but without reason connecting fall down.
    Few seconds later if I connect to the to same FTP server, sometime either not request login and password and connection fall down.

    If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else.
    There are several ways to back up a Mac that isn't fully working. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
