Problems with DOS
Hi guys,
I couldn't find an answer on Sun to the following problem.
I've downloaded j2sdk1.4.2_01 and put it into the path. I have all of my programs on the c drive in a folder called My Java. When I change the current directory to C:\My Java then type for example javac Backwards.java it doesn't recognise javac as a command.
If I change the current directory to C:\j2sdk1.4.2_01\bin where I transferred one of my programs to test, and type in the same command as above it compiles fine and runs fine.
Instead of having to type in C:\j2sdk1.4.2_01\bin everytime I start DOS I want to be able to compile and run files straight from My Java.
Anyone know why this is happening?
Thanks,
Chris
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>path
PATH=C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;c:\Python22;C:\Prog
ram Files\Sonic\MyDVD;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_01\bin
This was already done. I've renamed the My Java folder to MyJava and still not working.
Any ideas??
Thanks,
Chris

Problem with creating Kestore in DOS Environment
Hi
I am new to java security ,trying to generate keys by using ketool command but getting problem.
I am executing following keytool command from DOS prompt
c:\>keytool -genkey -keyalg "RSA" -sigalg "SHA1withRSA" -keystore myKeystore -storepass abcdef -alias xyz -keypass wxyzabc
when I execute the above command it displaying keytool Help. I suspect the problem with " -keystore myKeystore " parameter , if I remove that parameter the command gets executing.
Without giving -keystore parameter can create keys , in that case where should I look for the generated keys ,please help me out.
2) how can i create Certification request by using above generated keys.
please try to help me.
with regards.
jl.c:\>keytool -genkey -keyalg "RSA" -sigalg
"SHA1withRSA" -keystore myKeystore -storepass abcdef
-alias xyz -keypass wxyzabcOn Win2K under 1.4.2, that exact line works just fine for keytool - it goes right to asking me for the identifying information. What's your environment look like?
2) how can i create Certification request by using
above generated keys.c:\> keytool -certreq -keystore myKeystore -storepass abcdef -alias xyz -keypass wxyzabc -file mycertreq.csr

i have problem with firefox , it wont loud , the dose not come up , and it frizzes ? i even re-install the program but it wont work:( any suggestion would be helpful , thanks
i cant login anywhere as all my passwords are saved in firefox, i cant even access teh firefox preference to get my password, it's so sadYou likley have a corrupted Firefox preference or other support file in your User/Library folder.
Programs load these files from the user account to adjust to user specifications, instead of having multiple copies of the same program on the machine.
So when you reinstalled Firefox, it reinstalled the progrma only and the user support files remained from before.
To prove this point, use System Preferences to create another Admin account and log into it, Firefox should run like a charm.
To remove the Firefox support files from the problem user account your going to need to locate these files and delete them one at a time and try FF again and again.
The first one you shoull try is your FF .plist file located in your User/Library folder.
Clicm on the Finder and use the Go > Go to Folder and paste this
~/Library/Preferences
and press Go.
Now scroll down until you see the Firefox or Mozilla .plist file and Trash it, quit and restart Firefox, it will recreate the preference file with default settings you will have to reset it.
Next run through the list of fixes #1-13 here before proceeding.
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3353
If you need help deleting other FF files, download the free Easy Find from MacUpdate.com and search for anything "Mozilla" or "Firefox" in your User account only and take your chances you hopefully won't delete your password file in the process.
You should have site passwords written down someplace and locked up tightin case you need them, a computer isn't totally safe and reliable. -
Problem with DMGs and error: "No Mountable File Systems"
Problem with DMGs and error: "No Mountable File Systems"
The files are not corrupt. The problem is occurring with all DMGs that are apparently formatted in MS-DOS FAT16. No the file will not mount with Disk utility or any other disk mounter programs I have found.
This is now the second time this occurred and now effects my MBP and my iMac. First time i spent days with Apple support and the only solution was ultimately back up the data, reformat the HD, start over from scratch and reload everything. That lasted about a month before the problem resurfaced and is now an issue on both iMac and MBP.
I tried to identify all the programs I installed immediately before the error, as I am convinced it is the result of a software conflict.
Recent programs includes:
1) upgrading from Parallels 5.5 to 6.0 on both machines.
2) using an HP secure II usb drive and setting up a secure disk.
3) installing new itunes 10
4) new update to Flip For Mac.
The files affected are downloaded dmgs, including personal brain and google earth, both which are formatted in FAT16.
Any help or thoughts? Apple has now spent hours trying and they say i now have to reformat and wipe and start over. That is unacceptable and based on pasted experience the problem is likely to repeat itself. having to wipe and rebuild a HD ever month is not an solution. i need to fid the root problem.
In the meantime, anyone got a real solution on how to extract the data for a DMG using a different method?
Message was edited by: remaiaWhere you able to find the solution, i am having the same problem, all was fine till i install some programs only same one i saw did we both did was flip4mac i uninstalled it but the problem is still there, i also restored and erased the hardrive but im not up to doing that all over again. If you found anything out let me know i would greatly appreciate it

Problem with T400 and external monitor (1920x1200 resolution)
Hi there
My laptop:
ThinkPad T400 2767-C99* (graphics is: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 256MB / X4500MHD (Switchable Graphics)), OS is WinXP
I just installed the newest video driver from the lenovo page (which also installs "ATI catalyst")
Externale Monitor:
I just bought a Samsung SyncMaster 2443FW, 24" TFT monitor with maximum resolution 1920x1200
Problem:
Monitor works great with my newer T400s and my old Acer laptop. However, with my T400 (described above), I can't make the monitor use the 1920x1200 resolution. However, all the other resolutions look ugly so I need it to work with 1920x120
- If i change the resolution by rightclicking on the Windows XP desktop (and then properties=>settings) and set the screen resolution there to 1920x1200, then my monitor only used a lower resoltion (1440x900) and I get a scrolling effect as I move my pointer across the screen
- if I use ATI catalyst software to set the resolution, I can only chose smaller resolutions (it does no go up to 1920x1200)
Questions
Is that a hardware (maybe the graphic card does not support 1920x1200) or a software problem (maybe some problem with the driver) or just a matter of setting?
What can I do?
Help would be very much appreaciated!

Thank you for your answer.
I have already installed the newsest drivers from Lenovo. I don't really see why I should install a non-official driver. I am convinced that it must work somehow with the official driver.
Kind regards
there are plenty of instances where the official driver have glitches... just look around the forum to find instances of which.... while official drivers maybe better in most instances, there are always the odd case where it doesn't work as well as it should. If they perfectly out of box, then there would never need to be multiple revisions and updates.

Problem with "System.in.read()" read() method!
import java.io.*;
import java.lang.*;
class Count {
public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException
int count = 0;
while (System.in.read()!=-1)
count++;
System.out.println("Input has " + count + " chars.");
in this code the loop stucks and it increments the count variable infinitely of course as long as i hit enter. I am trying to understand the problem with read() method of system class's in object. in its definition it says; when the inputstream ends it returns -1, but in this code it does not return -1 ever. another question of mine is that what args[] array do? what does it store??Java doesn't bother much with the dos console and it a bit limited and limiting - no pretty colours /graphics options - just text - that's because java graduates to GUI's where there is laods of power and object /component support to do everything and everything you could imagine and more. System.in.read() ??? - thats a fine start!
what args[] array do? what does it store??
Good question !
It provides a means of passing a parameter argument from the command line to the program - consider this;-public class HelloWithArgs {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("Hello I am " + args[0]);
}What does it do and how does it work? Or this;-public class HelloWithArgs2 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
try{
String myName = args[0];
catch(ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException aob){
System.out.print("No names: program will end");
System.exit(0);
System.out.println("Hello I am " + myName);
}Study them and have fun. Though to answer the question -
" public static void main(String[] args) {" // or
" public static void main(String[] parameters) {"
is the 'entry point' of all java programs, in order to do something it has to have a main() method and if youre going to pass on parameters, then why not a String array? If you think about it anything else would be fairly useless. -
Problem with Class and Classpath
Hello ME Windows Users, now before you place a wry smile on your face, I have a problem with path and classpath. Stop it, I can see you smiling!
By visiting the the last 10 pages of the forum and reading Sun installation notes, some tooldocs and by given some answers by some nice people, I have become an expert in turning off my computer, about 10 times/hr. I still am trying to make my first cup of java.
With the ME computer,
I'm unable to right click on the desktop and go to properties, advanced,
I'm unable to go go start, run, sysedit,
I'm unable to change the ms-dos window of autoexec.bat, it just shuts down.
Now before you tell me, I should of bought a different computer, the only place I can find to modify the path and classpath is in the environment which is in system configuration under tools. Here I have placed numerous configurations, like
C:\java>set path=%path%;c:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin
C:\java>set classpath=%classpath%;.;
;java_dir\bin where ;java_bin is c:\j2sdk1.4.2
.; java_dir\bin; %path% where ;java_bin is c:\j2sdk1.4.2 and the list goes on.
But, I know you are still smiling, the % signs comes up in a dialog box, saying too many, and will not convert the text to the environment to be saved when I close down for the tenth time in the last hour.
Can someone help me before I make a real cup of coffee and accidentally drop it on the ME box.
Have a laugh on me Mik.C:\java>set path=%path%;c:\j2sdk1.4.2\binGood
But it is no good because it has to many % and a dialog box appears, saying you have too many parameters.
Are you saying I have to shutdown again to answer your ?
From the HELP menu-

Having data problems with ios6, seems to be a unique problem?
My little brother recently bought an iphone 4s and imediately upgraded to ios6. Since the phone has been in use (less than 30 days) the phone company (bell a canadian company) claims he has used up 17 Gigs of data but the iphone counter says he has only used 5 gigs. I realize the counter may not be totally accurate but that big of a difference seems a little crazy. I also have an iphone 4s with the ios 6 and my data usage that my phone counter displays matches what my phone company says almost perfect (a few mb difference). The data amounts come in large chunks on my brothers phone and at very odd times such as: 1456.28 mb at 4:04 am, or 4268.07mb in one session. He does not use his phone for streaming or anything like that, We are aware of what uses large amounts of data and what does not. he uses it for facebook twitter web browing etc.
When talking to tech support one guy said that we could have a "lemon" phone claiming that a known problem with ios6 can cause the data to somehow get "scrambled" and completely making up data usage numbers to send to the phone company. According to him this makes it an apple problem.
My main question is has anyone heard of this? If so I am looking for articles talking abut this problem, we are looking at $1000.00 in overage chrges and are preparing for a fight with the phone company.
The counter has never been reset and I know that I use my iphone 4s much more than my brother (I stream utube and radio stations alllll the time, goole maps etc) and have never once gone over my 6 gb limit. It just seems quite crazy to me that the difference in the iphone data collector (about 5 gb) and what the phone company has (17gb) is so great. To me that is indicating a serious problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I have upgraded from a SB Li've! to an SB Li've 24-bit, but I HAVE performed a complete format/clean install of WinXP SP2 to try to correct this problem. WinXP at first recognizes the card as a "Multimedia Audio Controller(the whole yellow "!" found in device manager). Upon installing either the drivers that came with the CD or the updated drivers from the website, the card works fine until I start the system up again, and I'm back at square one, having to install either set of drivers again(and rebooting) to have the card work properly once again. But after shutting down AGAIN... It's like I never installed the drivers in the first place. I'm running in a vicious circle here, like WinXP refuses to acknowledge the drivers permanently. I have formatted and reinstalled WinXP SP2 a total of three times now, to no avail. I'm a computer tech of 2 years and have NEVER seen a problem such as this. Each time the device manager comes up as "drivers for this device has not been installed". And from personal experiences/general knowledge, this does not sound like faulty hardware to me. It's THIS kind of instabilaty that makes me actually MISS dos! Um... help?
Hi
Sounds like your system don't recognize the sard (BIOS or OS).
Does your system recognize the card as a "Creative Li've! 24-bit" or something (is PnP functionality in use?) even it don't work? Is BIOS battery well?
Have you tried by installing Li've! in another PCI slot?
Is there some security settings set on XP, and are you installing with full admin rights? Can you find the driver files even when your card is not functioning?
Also, have you tried install drivers by executing the ctzapxx.exe found on installation package.

Problems with LR 3.5? Mac Lion 10.7.3
I have been having problems with LR 3.5, seems to have occured after I installed the latest MAC update, but not sure. I have installed my copy over the original program and updated it. I have even completely removed LR 3.5 and re-installed the program and its updates, and the same thing happens, after a while, when I launch the program it crashes and I get the following information. I am unsure as to why this is happening, but am reluctant to move on to 4.0 until I get this problem solved. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.

Can there be any external hard disks - if so How is/are it/they formatted ? Must be Mac OS Extended (hfs) if used for Video.
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most but not for VIDEO.
What this means in Your situation is above me - BUT.
• free space on internal boot hard disk? How much ?
Video codec used
• streamingDV, AIC etc. (not .avi, .mp4, .m4v, .wmv etc as they are containers not codecs)
Picture file format
• in what format ? .jpg, .bmp, .tif, else ?
Audio file format
• from where/what format ? iTunes, .avi, .mp3, .aiff, else ?
Did You try to - Trash the Pref file ?
Many users has not observed that there are TWO libraries.
• Library - at root level
• Library - in user/account folder - THIS IS THE ONE to look into
from Luke Burns (relveant when using iMovie)
I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..
Klaus1
You need more free space on your hard drive.
jonorparkerjon (relveant when using iMovie)
After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....
Where do Your material come from
• Camera
• External hard disk
• USB-memory
And all hard disks (etc) are connected so that the Application can find it ?

Printing problems with Canon Pixma IP4700
I used to use a PC, photoshop and my Canon pixma IP4700. With this i could achieve perfect results on an A4 image. I have embedded the correct paper profile and my colour management system was set up just right. I have now upgraded to a mac(running Snow Leopard OS) , but i am now getting problems with my prints. I opened up the exact same .psd file without changing anything and sent it off to print on my canon. The result has came out far too bright?. When i used my PC I would have a lot more controls within my printer driver screen, but now with the mac the printer driver screen dosnt have very many controls at all. Even when i soft proof the print on the print screen it dose not show it any ware near as bright as the end result print.
I am a student of photography and i have asked a few of my class mates and they say that they have had the same problem. They tend to use a professional printers, but as i had received such perfect prints before I know this result is obtainable.
Is there anything anyone can suggest to help??
If there is any more information i can provide to help just let me know.
Thanks a lot in advanceHi there,
In reading your post I'd be curious to see the cups error log. Given that the Gutenprint drivers would not print also, I would say that something is wrong with the core printing system. The log would show which filter is causing the spooler to stop.
Thinking that it is CUPS related, I would try resetting printing system (if you haven't done so already). Then I would add the queue again using the Gutenprint driver for starters. If this doesn't work then no need to try the Canon driver.
Note that the Canon test print is not an actual print but an instruction to output the inbuilt data. But the test print via the Gutenprint printer queue is a page generated by CUPS. So this would suggest that the CUPS usb backend is okay and something further up the spool creation process is failing. Again, the cups error log would give some clues as to what is going wrong. As to why both driver sets are failing is interesting...

Printing Problem with EPSON LX 300+
Dear all,

Edited by: Agung Adrianto on Aug 28, 2008 8:17 AMHi Agung,
Here is a way out for the issue you have submitted. I can't guarantee that this wayout work perfectly:
Question:
As we know that the dos matrix printer supports dos prompt and thus printing speed and
life of the printing head is comparatively more than what we print the same in graphical format.
So when I tried to print from SAP Bone in dot matrix printer, the printing speed is very slow and quality of printout is not good enough.
Any clarifications on this regard would prove very helpful to me.

Consultant Business solutions.
Solution:
Do you use one of this printer types:
Dot Matrix, Printer, Needle Printer, Citizen ProDot 300 , Oki Microline, Epson FX880, Epson FX890 ?
Here the stepwise I have tried :
In order to print using Dot Matrix printers, follow the below
instructions:
1. Run SAP Business One.
2. Click the upper menu 'File' and select 'Page Setup'.
3. The Print Setup window opens. Under 'Paper', in the field 'Size', select 'Letter' from the drop down menu.
4. Click OK to confirm your selection.
5. On your desktop, click Start => Settings => Printers.
6. Right click on the required Dot Matrix printer and select 'Printing Preferences...'.
7. Click the 'Paper/Quality' tab page and click the 'Advanced' pushbutton.
8. Under'Paper/Output'=> 'Paper Size', click on the underlined paper size(e.g. A4) and select 'Letter' from the drop down menu.
Note that if you leave the value 'A4', each page will be spreaded over 2 pages when printing using Dot Matrix printers.
9. Under 'Graphic'=> 'Print Quality', click on the underlined value (e.g. 230X250 dots per inch) and select '120X144 dots per inch' from thedrop down menu.
Note that in case the value '120X144' is not available you should select a similar value from the list.
I did not test it yet and I am not so sure about the result but you could test it.

Hi All,
I'm developing a web application written in J2EE that uses Java Reporting Component (JRC) to display crystal reports from some filters recovered from a jsp and passed to a report .rpt previously designed and invoked just at runtime.
I have a problem with printing a PDF:
I want, after entering the filters in a jsp, to print a report in PDF format (WORD) without opening it
with Adobe Reader (Microsoft Word). The class of API JRC used for export is ReportExportControl.
Can anyone help me?
I wish a great day to You all.Hi Ted Ueda,
sorry for the delay of my answer.
I understand very well the problems related to security.
With the following code that I used to produce a report (PDF) at runtime,
is the PDF created on the server and then sent to the client, or is it directly created on the client as PDF
from RTF previously realized?
ReportExportControl exportControl = new ReportExportControl();
String report = report path;
ReportClientDocument reportClientDoc = new ReportClientDocument();
reportClientDoc.open(report, OpenReportOptions._openAsReadOnly);
Object reportSource = null;
reportSource = reportClientDoc.getReportSource();
//The method setConnectionProperties() stores all the connection parameters in the collection
//ConnectioInfos
ConnectionInfos connInfos = setConnectionProperties(request, reportClientDoc);
exportControl.setEnableLogonPrompt(false);
exportControl.setEnableParameterPrompt(false);
exportControl.setReportSource(reportSource);
exportControl.setDatabaseLogonInfos(connInfos);
//Single method to pass parameters to Crystal Reports. Using classes ParameterFieldController and
//ParameterFieldDiscreteValue
setReportParametersValue(reportClientDoc, reportParameters, subReportParameters);
ExportOptions exportOptions = new ExportOptions();
//Set the export format (PDF)
exportOptions.setExportFormatType(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
PDFExportFormatOptions PDFExpOpts = new PDFExportFormatOptions();
exportOptions.setFormatOptions(PDFExpOpts);
exportControl.setExportOptions(exportOptions);
exportControl.setExportAsAttachment(true);
try {
exportControl.getHtmlContent(request, response, getServletConfig().getServletContext());
} catch (ReportSDKExceptionBase e) {
throw new ApplicationException("error code", ": error message"); }
As, however, I predicted in my previous message about the direct printing on the client,
I read about ActiveX, but I don't know how to use them.
I read this information in the 'Crystal Reports for Eclipse Developer Guide' about "printMode" attribute:
"In ActiveX print mode, an ActiveX control is downloaded to the client machine and the report is send directly to the printer...."
The ActiveX alternative is a java applet that runs on the client and takes the pdf from the server and prints directly onto the clients through the commands that I used in the DOS command line:
1) AcroRd32.exe /p /h FILENAME
where
/p = print
/h = hide window
to print the report and
2) tkill AcroRd32
to close Adobe Reader, because it doesn't end automatically after printing and the command /h is used just to minimize the process.
I hope you can give me advice because I need to print directly on the client. Thank you -
A problem with sample application modification
Hello,
I trying to build my application based on the Oracle HTML DB sample application (SA). I do have âordersâ and âorder_itemâ tables and forms â similarly as the SA dos. However I do have a problem with a fact that SAâs âenter order headerâ page only mandatory (not null) columns are obtaining values from a sequence (order_id) and popup key lov (p201_customer_id).
In my application, I do have additional mandatory column â due_date. I canât find a way to populate this column at the same time when process âprocess row of demo_ordersâ is executed. This processâ type is âautomatic row processing (dml)â and as I can see it only deals with one primary key and one secondary key.
On my own âenter order headerâ page I do have âp201_due_dateâ item displayed as âdate picker (dd/mm/yyyy)â so when I run my âenter order headerâ page I can select âcustomer nameâ similarly as on SA, and I do have additional âdue dateâ field where I can select a date from calendar-type popup window. However when I click on âcontinue >â I am getting error ORA-01400 because I donât know where to set that my due_date table column has to get populated from p201_due_date when I click on âcontinue >â button.
Is this doable using build in âautomatic row processing (dml)â process type or I have to write my own pl/sql anonymous block to handle this?
Thank you for your time.
DanielDDoes p201_due_date have a source type 'Database Column' ? It should in order for the fetch and DML processes to know about it.

Hard disk problems with Far7 ?
Hello Everyone, I am new to this board, and this is my first post.
I purchased a FAR7 board about a month ago, and slowly came to realize I could not get Windows XP Pro to install.
The problem appeared to be with the IDE Controller. In the BIOS, it would not autodetect correctly and the install would always freeze at the point where windows would be started and it needed to communicate with the drive in 32bit mode.
Not to mention needing to clear the CMOS constantly, reset, reboot, etc.
Below is the letter that I submitted when I RMA'd this board, I hope this might help if anyone else is having a similar problem, or perhaps others have fought this battle and succeeded where I have not.
Just wanted to add that I appreciate that MSI has this support board, they do have a good service record as far as I am concerned, which is a very important consideration when choosing hardware.
I have bought many MSI graphics cards, motherboards and add in cards exclusively for the past several years and have never had a single issue with any of them and have been totally satisfied with all of them.
Any comments, thoughts, suggestions are appreciated !!
2x 242 Opterons
Antec TruePower 2.0 550 EPS power (dual 12V rails 19A each).
Kingston PC2700 ECC KVR333S4R25/512 2.5 REG (QVL Cert by MSI for this board)
BIOS 1.12
Main problem:
IDE Hard Disk Channel not working correctly in 32bit mode.
Cannot install Windows XP Professional
Cannot install Windows XP Professional with SP2 slipstreamed
Setup was a Single Master disk on IDE Primary
Cable Select on Hard Disk and 80 line cable supplied with the motherboard.
I am able to see the hard disk in 16 bit DOS, only if I select
[IDE Primary Master]->[Access Mode]->[LBA] (no matter which drive I tried)
I am not able to edit Capacity, Cylinder, Head, Precomp, Landing Zone or Sector
These are automatically filled in when an Access Mode is seleted
(like LBA, CHS, Large or Auto).
This contradicts the manual on pages 3-6 and 3-7 which
says these parameters can be edited.
In the case of the Western Digital 1200JB drive, selecting
[Access Mode]->LBA did appear to select the correct
Capacity, Cylinders, Heads but the same problem occurred with all
drives tried.
Otherwise, I am not able to access the disk drives.
Booting directly from Windows XP pro CD, installation is able to proceed
until the point where Windows is started and installation tries to do anything
related to accessing the hard disk. System freezes.
I tried installing Windows XP pro via DOS,
Booted from DOS floppy, format 2 GB C: partition
run winnt.exe from <CDROM>/i386
Copies files to the hard disk, starts windows and freezes
at same place as above when installing off of
installation CD of Windows XP Pro.
Secondary problems:
Constant freezing during power up on Memory test
Several reboots needed to produce successful post
Things I have tried:
New power supply -> Antec EPS TruePower 550 watt supply.
Specs here -> http://www.antec.com/specs/TPII550_EPS12V_spe.html
Changed RAM to MSI QVL certified 512 MB PC2700 ECC stick
New (KVR333S4R25/512)
Tried several hard drives.
New Western Digital WD160JB
New Seagate 120GB EIDE 7200.9
New Seagate 120GB EIDE 7200.9
Older Western Digital EIDE 1200JB
Older Maxtor 20 GB EIDE
Upgraded BIOS,
the board came with 1.0,
I upgraded to 1.12 from MSI web site
Various BIOS settings
Clear CMOS, power off,
Load Fail Safe defaults
Load Optimized defaults
I have spent many hours and considerable expense,
trying to make this motherboard work.
I have made many attempts to install Windows XP Professional.
and tried many variations of the BIOS settings but no success.
Please help, it cannot be this hard to setup a motherboard.
I registered the motherboard at the MSI web site immediately upon purchase
Thank you!I used the 80 wire cable that came with the board and ran the WD's jumperless (cable select) with the drive at one end and the blue connector on the MB. I also tried a 40 wire cable with the drive set to master. Both of these scenarios worked fine on my other computer, which I switched back and forth several times to prove to myself that the drives were fine and the cables were ok.
I did run spinrite from dos and was always able to work with the drives as long as I selected LBA access and disabled [Integrated Peripherals]->[VIA OnChip IDE Device]->[IDE DMA Transfer Access].
The MB never autodetected any of the drives correctly. Only when I used the the older WD 1200JB with access mode set to [LBA] and disabled IDE DMA Transfer Access did i get partial success. Admittedly, this is a very obscure problem and not many others are hitting. Hopefully the service guys will be able to sort it out since it is easy to reproduce.
I never used that JPWR2 connector, the manual stated that it was to supply power to the graphics card but my card has a regular 4 pin molex that i could get directly from the power supply. Wonder if the board would blow up if someone stuck the 4pin lead from their PSU in there ... maybe not such a great feature.
I did not try a single CPU or run memtest86 - things I probably should have tried. The problem to me seemed to be the integrated IDE controller was just not working correctly, so after changing ram, power supply, drives etc and seeing the exact same problem with the hard disk, I became more convinced it was just a flakey board. Plus the need to clear CMOS and reboot constantly to get the board to post added to theory.
Oh well, it is in RMA land now, so when it comes back I will let you know how it goes. -
IDE/SCSI Problems with Neo 4 Platinum/Sli
I am routinely getting Event 11 and Event 9 errors in my event viewer which are basically "The controller detected an error on device " then lists a controller and a harddrive. I never got errors like this on my old rig (an Asus A7Pro Motherboard) and I'm using many of the same components. I get controller errors on my Adaptec Card/HDD which is very odd since I'd imagine they were totally separate from the nVidia or Silicon Image SATA/IDE on the board.
New Rig:
MSI Neo4 Platinum/SLI
Athlon 64 3500+
Thermaltake K8 SilentOrb
1 GB (Dual Channel 512MB DDR) Kingson Hyper-X
1 BFG 6800GT OC (PCI-E) (with an Artic Cooling NVSilencer rev2)
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (although I may change to the onboard 24bit SB Live)
Adaptec 29160 PCI Ultra 160 Controller
Belkin 54G Wireless Adapter
Pioneer SCSI II slot load DVD-ROM drive
Toshiba SCSI II CD-R/CD-RW drive
500+ Watts Vantec Stealth PSU (with good voltages on all rails)
74GB Western Digital Raptor (SATA connected to Slot 4 - nVidia SATA channel, no RAID)
80GB Western Digital 8MB RAM, Special Edition UDMA 4 IDE HDD
36GB Seagate Ultra2 Cheetah
Old Rig had the WD IDE drive, the SCSI card and dvd/cd drives, the sound card, and the wireless card.
I originally had a 40GB IDE Maxtor drive (which I replaced with the Digital Raptor) but it had all sorts of event 11 and 9 errors and exhibited slow IDE performance and even created conflicts with the WD IDE Drive outside of windows. I had problems running the WD diagnostsics software (runs in DOS) when the Maxtor drive was set to primary master on either of the two IDE channels.
What I'm wondering is if there is a BIOS upgrade or Driver release or anything that fixes these problems for people. I'm using BIOS 3.1 (when I upgraded to Bios 3.4, my computer would BSOD in normal and safe modes, and I didn't feel like reinstalling Windows, so I downgraded back to 3.1) The nVidia IDE drivers (6.53) caused massive problems with my drives (event 11 and 9 and endless lockups with the IDE light remaining on, requiring cold boots) so I ditched them for the windows default drivers.
I'm curious if people have checked out their own event viewer (Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer->System for all you non-power users) and checked out the errors listed there.
The only other stability problem sI've noticed is when playing Half Life 2 in 1280X1024 resolution (1024X768 didn't have the problem) would cause complete crash of the machine. Monitor would lose signal and a cold boot was required... reset button didn't fix the problem. I figured this might be a cooling issue so I checked temps and they were fine. Then I figured it may be a power problem so I upgraded to the Vantec Stealth PSU (from my Antec 380W SilentPower) I haven't tested HL2 extensively since, so I'm not sure if this problem has gone away. The other problem occurs when trying to rip a CD in iTunes with "cd error checking on" System totally stalls out and a cold boot is required to get the SCSI happy again. If I rip using error checking off, things seem to work, however I get a problem sometimes where a track will suddenly squeel and crack in the middle and then the remainder of the song will be the first track on the album. The next track in the sequence will have a half second blip of the previous track on it, essentially meaning that two tracks are "broken rips" Ripping in AudioGrabber with ASPI doesn't seem to exhibit these problems.
Any similar experiences or sollutions/advice would be greatly appreciated.It's been fixed for the Neo2. I am using a modded version called 1C3 EasyBios [rev.2]. I think it is based on the latest version or new beta of the official 1.B. Read all about it:
