Problems with DVR, STB`s

I had FIOS put in less than a week ago. The multi-room DVR recordings don`t show up on my STB`s. I have tried resetting them all at least 3 times. I tried resetting them through the internet, but it keeps saying login failed. In Home Agent freezes up when I try to reset the STB`s through that.  I called tech support, and was on the phone with him for an hour and a half...and he couldn`t fix it. I`m ready to cancel this and go back to Dish network.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

The suggestion is to call back and reuqest a tech visit.  Ask for a supervisor during the call if they put you off or try to go through the same troubleshooting you have already done, and keep escalating the complaint during the call as necessary.  Once it gets to a certain level, you'll be suprised at the attention you will get from Verizon escalation management.  My neighbor had a problem and once escalated, he was repeatedly contacted until it was fixed -- and a week after received a call to ensure that it was still working.

  • Problem with DVR playback on second STB

We have one STB with DVR, and one plain STB. I often record long programs on the DVR and play them back on the second STB. This hasn't been a problem until one of the system updates a few weeks.
Now, playback stops at exactly 2 hours. If I'm trying to play back a longer program, it stops after 2 hours even if the recording is 2:15 or 2:30 or whatever. It's as though I hit the STOP button -- it just stops playing the recorded program and goes to the blue "view recordings" screen.
And I can't just start up again where the program stopped (at the 2 hour mark) -- there's no "resume play" option. The only option is "play" which of course starts over again at the beginning.
I have no problem with playback of programs shorter than 2 hours.
Neither the DVR nor the second STB shut down when the playback stops at 2 hours. If I play back the long programs on the DVR/STB (on the first TV), the entire program will play, no matter how long it is.
Any idea why this has started happening, and how to fix it?

Just an update, I think I may have found the problem, but not a permanent fix. I failed to mention I am running a raid striped array. I tried inserting a 2gb usb drive with my video file into the computer. I then went into itunes and changed the itunes directory to the USB drive. I then proceeded to have Itunes convert the file for ipod, synced the file and then it played properly on the ipod. I do not have a external drive large enough to hold all my videos. It is either a problem with the raid array or the fact the files are on the boot drive. Anyone have a fix so I can you my computers hard drives??????????

P.S. Support still has not emailed me the article they were suppose to send. I have 7 days to return the ipod and if I do not get a answer back by then I guess I will return it for something else.

  • DVR replay on the non-DVR STB - very low quality

I started recording a football game on the DVR, and about 45 minutes later I began to watch it on the non-DVR setbox in another room.  The quality is very low: every 10 seconds (almost exactly) the picture gets very choppy, stops and starts.
On the DVR itself, the replay is good.
Is this a known problem with the STB?

Have you attempted re-booting both STBs?

  • Problem with Fios TV Central and my Home Media DVR...

I have had Fios for some time and I'm upgraded to the new 1.6 img. I can see and my vz media center works with the home dvr and the other  stb's can view dvr recordings from the dvr.
My problem is after logging into the Fios TV Central site it never finds my dvr.....it scans for some time then says there is a problem and to try later. I have done everything (I think) that was required to activate this on my dvr and the tv central site. I've rebooted the actiontec, unplugged and plugged in the dvr stb and the other stb's one at a time with no change.
    Any suggestions?
Called tech support but haven't heard anything from them.

    O.k.
Here's what the tech that came out to the house did.
We first went through the simple stuff and he called his tech guys which didn't really know what could be the problem since this is BETA.
Finally he had to leave but came back the next evening to replace the MI424WR router and the DVR.
He did the router but there system to register was down Friday evening so he had to put the old DVR back and come back the next week.
He finally came back on Tuesday morning and installed the new DVR and it registered ok.
Then you have to wait for the Fios TV Central and the DVR to update.....takes a couple of hours usually.
I finally was able to set up FTVC and it's working both from my computer and from my cell phone.
    IT WORKS!!!!!!!!! Yes!
I think it was the DVR personally because that was the last piece of equipment we replaced and it started working.

  • Fast forward problems with 2nd room DVR

I am enjoying my new FIOS set up very much.  I have the Home Media option on my HD DVR and STBs.  I'm having trouble with the "Fast Forward" when watching shows in my "non" DVR room.  When the show is longer than about 45 minutes... after scanning thru commericals the program jumps back to the beginning.  This is very frustrating and in some ways defeats the purpose of the multi-room option.  I'm considering canceling this option but wanted to check first to see if there's an easy fix.
    Thanks in advance.
    Arnie

    Hey nascar,
All three problems are reported issues and due up to be fixed.  The first of your problems isnt a problem with the site, as it is a problem with IMG.  The DVR content isnt being flagged properly after finishing it.  Number two, you already know what is causing it.  I don't know too much about this problem as ad insertion is handled on the network level.  I do know they are reporting to be working on a fix at this time.  Only a few areas at this time experience this problem as verizon does not locally insert ads in every market.  Number three has been around for a while. We have attempted to fix it but the "fix" actually broke more things than it fixed so we had to pull it off the boxes.  This one is still a work in progress to be fixed.

  • Problems with uVerse DVR connected to a network switch and 1x3 HDMI switch

So that I can connect multiple devices (Apple TV & BluRay player), I've connected my uVerse DVR to a network switch with IP Quality of Service function.  Is it known whether or not this will cause problems?  I am having problems, but see next question for probable cause. I have also connected my HD TV to a 1x3 HDMI switch output, with inputs from the uVerse DVR, Apple TV, & BluRay player.  This clearly has caused problems because the DVR goes through the power on sequence almost everytime the TV is turned on, I have intermittent problems with the HDMI switch displaying video on the TV, and on several occassions, shows scheduled for recording haven't recorded at all or only partially recorded.

I've been having problems with this for months especially with the GigaPower rollout and broke down and decided to resort to some network engineering tactics versus calling out AT&T Techs. The Techs are good at their job but they are only knowledgeable about the hardware aspect but are dumb founded on this one and it's not their job to know.  To the point of using a switch next to the DVR and this counts truly for all set top boxes via Ethernet they need to be physically seperated wires. Well, unless you want to pay someone to put an extra Ethernet drop next to each wired set-top box or DVR this isn't feasible so options are deal with it or spend $20 more dollars on a switch that supports 802.1q trunking which makes two 'virtual' independent ethernet cables over one line.  If you can do it great otherwise this takes a higher than average knowledge of basic networking.   A basic setup would be: + Get two switches - Netgear GS108T or GS108E I've found does the job well. + Enable 802.1q advanced VLANs+ Make two additional vlans 2 and 3 (1 is the native VLAN)+ Mark a port as tagged 'T' for the trunk port to the other switch for VLANS 1,2,3 (I used port 8)+ Assign VLAN 2 and mark as untagged for ports 2-7 - this is for data traffic+ Assign VLAN 3 and mark as untagged for port 8 only - this is for video multi-cast traffic+ ***DISABLE*** MULTI-CAST IGMP SNOPING otherwise IPTV won't work. On the back of the Uvserse router, take an Ethernet wire and plug into port 8 and take an Ethernet cable and plug into port 7.  This does not create a loop though sounds like it, we've created two unique layer 2 networks.  Now configure the second Netgear switch (or switch of your choosing...) the same exact way but plug your DVR into port '8' and all your data stuff XBox, whatever... into ports 2-7. Whalla, you've eliminating multi-cast flooding and DVR traffic is independent.  Ever since I started doing this I increased the speed throughput from 10 MB/s or to never working to a full reliable gigabit speed or respectibly whatever UVerse service you get.

  • Problem with archivelogs in a phy stb

    Hi every body!
I want ask you about my problem with the archivelogs in a physical standby.
this standby works perfectly, but every time it recives a archivelog from the primary database, it generates another archivelog bigger than the it recives.
    -rw-r----- 1 oracle dba 43314176 Mar 13 16:06 1_1794.dbf
    -rw-r----- 1 oracle dba 52429824 Mar 13 16:06 1_1795.dbf
Those files are archivelogs. 1794 is recived from the primary database, and 1795 is generated by the standby, as you can see the 1795 is bigger than 1794.
when i generate another archivelog this is the result:
    -rw-r----- 1 oracle dba 4290560 Mar 13 16:40 1_1795_637513013.dbf
    -rw-r----- 1 oracle dba 52429824 Mar 13 16:40 1_1796_637513013.dbf
i generate 1795 in primary database, and physical standby generated 1796...
Doy you know the solution to my problem....
Thanks a lot for your time.

Yep you do have to down the standby database I'm afraid, do a shutdown immediate then a startup nomount then issue the alter database mount standby database; command. Once this is done run the below statements to recreate the relevant standby redo logs. See the below SQL for a syntax example.
    ALTER DATABASE DROP STANDBY LOGFILE GROUP 4;
    ALTER DATABASE DROP STANDBY LOGFILE GROUP 5;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE GROUP 4 ('D:\somepath\STBYREDO_GRP4_A.LOG','D:\somepath\STBYREDO_GRP4_B.LOG') SIZE 100M;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE GROUP 5 ('D:\somepath\STBYREDO_GRP5_A.LOG','D:\somepath\STBYREDO_GRP5_B.LOG') SIZE 100M;

  • Problems with my DVR-104 drive

    Hey there,
I'm experiencing a few problems with my Superdrive. When I try to burn from Toast (7.0), the verification always fails, and inevitably the DVD can't play properly. It also has problems reading some DVD's, whether burnt or blank. The CD reader and writer works fine, but I'm at a loss for what might be wrong with the DVD.
I checked to see if I could update my firmware, but no updates exist. Any suggestions??
Is it time to get a new drive?
    Thanks.
    Mario

It would cost you to about $40 to replace that drive with the newest Pioneer, the 112, which is an excellent drive and would give you much better performance and work with a much wider variety of media. Pioneer updates their firmware often, but after a certain number of years discontinue updates.
It isn't unusual for the cd or dvd side to work but not the other as they are 2 different assemblies, and one of them no longer working is a very common symptom of a dying drive. There are things you can try that may work at reviving the drive (a lens cleaner, blowing out dust from the interior of the drive with the tray open) but at the age of that drive I'd just replace it if it's within your budget, as you've already done a good job of checking out most of the basics. Here's a link to some info on the 112:

  • DVR/STB Troubleshooting

I have been having some issues with my service or DVR since the new guide/firmware update last year.
The first issue is that an average of 50% of my DVR recordings will have a glitch in them:
Jogging forward or fast forward causes the program to end and return to the recording menu.
Not channel specific or time specific; could be any recording.
Steps taken to resolve this issue:
Auto fix STB issues under In Home Agent - no change.
Auto fix DVR issues under In Home Agent - no change.
Power cycling STB - no change.
Called into support and they sent out a replacement DVR - issue seemed to be resolved for around a month but reoccurred.
The above process was repeated with the new DVR/STB with no change.
I have also tried turning Program Chaptering On/Off and the problem still occurs regardless of this setting. One thing that I have noticed is that during the affected recordings the information bar will often disappear completely or have the incorrect recording time (IE when playing a 30 minute recording and pressing Info button the program will show 10:00/1:30:00 or 10:00/0:00:00 as if the DVR does not know how long the recording is actually). The jog forward or fast forward causing the program to end usually occurs after 10 minutes of record time. This issue is very annoying as it defeats part of the purpose of the DVR and being able to skip through the program.
The second issue that I am having is intermittent issues with what seems like signal quality and delays changing channels:
Turning the DVR on and changing channels usually results in anywhere from a 30 sec to 2 minute delay (DVR stays on the selected channel or goes to a black screen until the DVR processes the channel change and goes to the selected channel).
Seems to occur when changing from a local channel to a premium or HD channel or vice versa (3 to the HD 503 or any channel to 70 or 76).
At times the signal seems to drop out and I get a lot of audio freezing and some artifacting in the picture.
The channel change/audio skip or freeze usually occur once or twice an hour.
Steps taken to resolve this issue:
I did a search and found that some users had success changing or turning off the SD override feature, I have tried Off, 480i, 480p and Stretched - no impact on channel change delay or audio/video freezing.
Auto fix STB/DVR with In Home Agent - no change.
These issues are very frustrating and hard to pin down from a diagnostic standpoint. Each time I call into support when the issue is occurring the Menu Diagnostics or STB/DVR reset throws a red herring in that the problem seems solved until the next day when the problems start again or I have a DVR full of recordings that I cannot fast forward through. No offense but I am tried of going through Level 1 phone support and running through the book resolutions only to solve the problem temporarily. If anyone can shed some more advanced light on this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Edit for formatting.

What you are describing in both scenarios is a signal disruption. Please unscrew the coax cord from both ends (from the DVR and from the wall). Make sure the tips are good and straight. Screw both back on. If you are still having troubles, then try using a different coax cord all together. If you are still having troubles, it might be a problem with the wall jack or the main splitter. For further assistance with those, please send me a private message.

  • Does the DVR/STB have to be on the LAN for In-Home Agent to work?

I'm a brand new user and am trying to learn the the new features that Fios brings to the party.  When my install was done I asked that the wireless feature be disabled on the router (I have a good wired network for my PCs and they were all connected to the supplied router).  All of my services work (TV, Ph, Internet) but I just noticed that when I go to In-Home Agent, the only selectable option is that for Internet.  I have a sneaky suspicion that the DVR/STB are controlled over the network.
Can I connect the DVR to my wired network (Ethernet connection) and get the In-Home Agent functionality back?

Verizon boxes communicate with the LAN via MoCA.  This is done over the coaxial cable.  If you have guide information then that is working properly.  Youy don't need wireless and the RJ-45 on the back of the STB is not active, so "hooking up" to your wired network would do no good.

  • Acquired DVR, STB. and Router from Apartment cleanout; Return?

I am trying to do the right thing but poor customer service is not allowing me. I do IT work and received a DVR, STB, and Router from an apartment cleanout from a property owner. I am uncertain if the boxes are paid off or what, but rather than accept stolen property or flip them, I want to contact Verizon and have a return put out on the equipment. Hey maybe I'll get a credit or a few months of movies or something. But I certainly am not spending another minute sitting on hold to do this. I could not get through over 45 minutes yesterday. If I call and specify that I want to buy new service though, I get right through- only to be redirected anyways. Funny how it works. I love my FIOS service, always have, but to call them for anything requires taking a half day off of work. So, with that said- does anyone have contact info for equipment returns? Pittsburgh/Monroeville PA area. Again, if it's going to cost me anything, screw them. I will throw the stuff away as it should have been in the first place. If the equipment was paid for, it would be nice to have it activated to my account and no longer pay rental fees for my STB and DVR.
Message Edited by betteroff on 08-14-2009 06:47 AM

Don't know who to contact, but the video equipment is never considered paid off and remains forever Verizon property (that's how they make money on them).  After a year I belive Verizon doesn't require the return of the router.  They will not activate any STB without it being in their inventory and charging you a monthly fee.

  • Multiroom DVR STB Keeps Resetting

For the past 36 hours or so (maybe longer), the only thing that works on my MR-DVR STB (500gb motorola version) are tv channels. Menu, DVR, guide and everything else all nonfunctional. The STB acknowledges the command, but does not do anyting. The STB does not display the time when powered off.
Every 15 or 20 minutes (guess, havent measured). it reboots itself. On boot, it displays an error:
    Please Re-Insert CableCard
I am not using a cable card. AFter displaying the message it boots up and displays TV, but again, none of the advanced features work.
I have tried resetting the MR-DVR from a separate STB. This fails with an error saying to try again later (tried many times).
I have tried resetting via in home agent. The first 5 times I used the app it did not even acknowledge I had TV service. When I finally got it to recognize that, it failed saying I had a problem it could not fix.
I have tried resetting via verizon website, but it says that it cannot reach my STB.
I refuse to pull the plug on the unit since the last 2 times I have done that it resulted in the DVR losing its pairing with my external drive (forced reformatting) and wiping 2TB worth of recordings.
I suspect that a recent update to the STB has not worked properly and it is stuck in a continual loop of trying of trying to apply it/fix itself.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

  • DVR/Stb Functionality

I am new to this forum, so I don't if this has been discussed. I was with Comcast since Lord knows and have used their DVR for at least 4 years. One feature I got used to and loved was being able to pause live TV and "swap" to the other tuner to watch another show. I could then pause the other tuner (or not) and swap back to the first and continue watching from where it was paused. I have yet to figure out how to do this with the FIOS DVR. If i have something paused and change the channel and change it back it is live.
Another question I have is it seems like i can't keep something paused for more than an hour before it unpauses itself and returns live. If anything, I would prefer it to remain paused a little longer than one hour or resume from where it is paused. you have very little room for error.
One last question, how do I get to the settings of the STBs? I have an HDTV that use to switch from 4:3 to 16:9 accordingly with the channels with the STB. But when I got another one moved it to another TV, it now stretches 4:3 to widescreen and I can't stand it. My wife doesn't mind, but i have to change the display manually on the tv whenever we go from HD to SD.

To swap paused tuners you need to use the LAST button on the remote. Pause the channel you are watching, select other channel you want to watch, pause the second channel, now hit LAST and you should return to the paused first channel.
The 1 hour limitation is due to the buffer size on the DVR (which coincidentally is 1 hour).  It would make sense if the buffer is an hour it won't hold pause any longer than that.
The last issues sounds like a setting in the TV.  If you have to go and "change the display manually on the TV" it is not the STB, but a setting in the TV.  The other possibility is that the 4:3 override in the STB has changed.  You can try playing with the different modes (OFF, 480i, 480p, or stretch).

  • DVR STB Not Accessible on Web

For the past several months, I have not been able to access my DVR STB online.  I used to do it all the time for programming, etc.  Now no matter what I do i get the message that my STB is not responding.  I gave up trying months ago, but I really want this functionality back.  But honestly, I don't want to spend extended periods of time trying to work with telephone support.
    Have others resolved this issue?
What can I do to fix this problem???
    Thanks.

  • Audio problems with CHS 435

Hello all, I'm having audio problems with my FiOS set top box. When I start to change channels I lose audio and can't get it back unless I turn the TV off/on or I change the HDMI source on my TV . Seems after changing a couple of channels the problem happens. I've tried the in home agent auto correct, and different HDMI cables. I have a Westinghouse TV and I'll try a firmware update for the TV and see if that fixes it. Any fix for this and the possibility that it might be the set top box ? I just got FiOS and all is going well besides this issue. Seems that the other STB that are model # 335 aren't having this problem.

Some TVs have had issues with the HDMI handshake and the Audio. You may be required to use the separate bulkier HD Component cables with separate audio cables. Or try it as a solution on that TV.
I have CHS 435 DVR on a Samsung, and 2 CHS 335s on different model Vizio TVs, all with HDMI, and no issues. Others have reported different issues. I did a search here with the following results. Perhaps this information will help.
