Problems with FileVault, wont turn off:/

Some time ago I turnd FileVault on to see what it was. But as I now know I dont need it, its youst a pain. And also, its very hard to turn off. If I say "Turn of filevault", I get the message that it needs 4.8 tb to turn it off. And, suprise!! I dont have 4tb:P
Is it any way for me to turn it off? Or do I have to take backup of my stuff and reformat? When I install leopard, can I youst take a clean install, and the harddrive will be reformated in the instalation process?
Thank You

Hi HunterK,
Do you have the administrative password? How big is your home folder? Whatever the size of your home folder is, you need to have to have the same amount of free space on your hard drive. Lets say your home folder is 1Gb, then you need at least 1Gb of free space on your hard drive. Try going to System Preferences > Security > Turn off FileVault > Enter the login password > click Continue > You should see a message come up, click Turn off FileVault. Do you have the "master password"?

  • If you have problems with your ipod turning off and charging look at this..

I have to send in my 80gb ipod video because I am having problems with the battery,I charge it until it says charged and in ten min it shuts off and when I try to turn it on it says that there is not enough battery life to even turn on so i called it in and they told me that I have short battery life and that I have to send it in and they will fix it...If anybody out there has the same problem call it in and they will replace it...and if you don't have the number here it is:1-800-275-2273

hey man I'm glad they replaced it...but if you look
most of the problems are with the battery or the hard
drive...I know that people make mistakes and I do not
expect it to be perfect, but some people expect for it
to be working perfect...and those people tell other
people that there product was defective, and that's
    how Apple loose customers..I didn't say I was Mad...I
don't know why your getting mad, I'm sorry if I
offended you, I was just trying to give Apple advice
    sorry.
Not true, most problems are with software, then with the earphone jack I quote from a letter that I recieved from a service manager that I worked with several years ago who wrote me two weeks ago and I am quoting. "Although the percentage is small it seems that if I had to put it into words I would say that software glitches seem to be the number one problem with the earphone jack a close second. Although both are not a major percentage. All in all it is a great product." Not mad,and sure that Apple will be far better off with your advice. Maybe they will move up from the number one maker of the number one mp3 player in the world and make some serious money with it now that they have it. But be advised that they do not monitor this for advice. You might want to try here http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
and I will run out and buy more stock.

  • Filevault wont turn off.

i have had my computer since last christmas and somehow my filevault got turned on. i have had some difficulties resulting from this, and i am hoping to turn it off. when i go to turn it off, it says that there was an error decrypting. there is enough room on the hard drive for filevault to "unravel" everything. i called apple support and they said to hold down some key and do something that way using the start up disc, but i had misplaced it. now that i have found it again, my applecare or whatever is up so i can only use these online forums. please help!!

my mac book air turn on with grey apple icon and spining wheel. then it wont turn off.pls help

Have exactly the same problem with my wife's MacBook Air. After restaring in Restore mode and trying to repair the disk (Disk Utility showed errors in the verification), the system tells me to backup as much data as possible (how?), re-format the disk and restore backed-up files. Error comes up when "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required".
Original restart action was done due to software update requesting it, if I remember correctly, iTunes was updated.
I don't want to start a painful back-up procedure (although I do regular back-ups): how should I know, where iPhoto stores it's data or where my mails are (yes, still using local mail)? How can I access the data if I can't boot?
My iMac's disk crashed also a couple of months ago and I'm still recovering. I have four Apple devices, two of them have failed. Can Apple afford such a ratio?

i will never order one because i got an i pod 3 g i have not had it long and it wont turn off or on or charge i cant believe that you would try  to sell me something when the one i have now is good for nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how do i talk to someone about it i called the 1800 # with no luck i would like to e mail someone!!!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 30GB ipod video wont turn off

all of the sudden after a month of having my ipod video, it wont turn off
any idea what to do? will resetting it even help??
it plays music just fine and nothing wrong with the connection to my computer

Like the guy said, different levels. You only have to hold down Pause, and then the system goes into Sleep mode. The problem is that you probably moved your finger when the button was pressed. Don't. Keep your finger still on the button. This happened to me oh so many times
Otherwise, add a Sleep item to your Main Menu. Hold down Menu for a few seconds to go back to the Main Menu. Go to Settings > Main Menu. Scroll down to "Sleep", and turn it on. Now go back to the Main Menu, and choose the Sleep option.

  • T61p 6459CTO monitor wont turn off

    Hello,
Been having a problem with my thinkpad T61p (bios dated 6/6/2008)
I'm using windows XP pro 32bit, fully up to date and have killed all non essential programs from taskman that i can think of and my computer STILL wont turn off its LCD monitor (via energy star count down or FN-F3 shortcut)
it shuts off fine for a couple minuets but then randomly wakes up as if i have touched the mouse or a key...I'm thinking it has to be either a service or an application im overlooking but have no idea where to start...i will provide logs upond request.
    Can anyone help?

everything i could see in bios relating to waking has been disabled from the start.
Ubuntu 8.10 has no problems keeping the monitor off until i move the mouse or hit a key, its just windows XP ... is there a way to see what handle or program is interupting the sleep mode on my LCD?

I had a similar problem with my dad's iPod Nano, here's a way to fix it for ALL iPods:
    1. Enter Settings
    2. Select Main Menu
    3. Switch the last option: Sleep to On
    4. Select Sleep from the iPod main menu to turn it off, then (of course) put the Hold switch on Lock.
    Must have solved your problem
