Problems with French external keyboard with the Playbook

I just bought the Microsoft Wedge mobile bluetooth French keyboard. My playbook sees it and connects to it, but believes it to be an English keyboard and types the associated English keys when the French character keys are pressed. It's a French Canadian keyboard, not French from France, and none of the three keyboard options the settings menu for keyboard offers me seem to correspond. How do I get it to recognize the French characters properly?

You cant switch off the power to the monitor but you can send it to sleep.
1 - Apple > System preferences > energy saver: set the monitor to sleep at the shortest duration
2 - While the second display is connected and powered on, System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement: deselect the Mirror Displays option
While the presentation plays on the secondary display, the Mac display will go to sleep as there is nothing on the screen during play, entering display sleep within seconds.

How to reset SMC (MBP Unibody 17 mid 2009) with an external keyboard?

Hi all,
I had a problem on my MBP and left shift key on internal keyboard is not working.
How can I reset the SMC (left side Shift of internal keyboard is needed) with an external keyboard? Or what else can I do to reset it without the Left Shift of integrated keyboard?

thanks for suggestion I know but changing keyboard on a Unibody 17 is very expensive as it's all the top assembly part, and before deciding about it (I can live with one shift key not working) I need to try an SMC reset...and it's very strange there's no other way!
I was looking at the possibility of reinstalling the firmware again (overwriting it with same version) but I can't find any SMC frimware update on apple website for my model as it was provided with the latest one anyway.
Any idea?

It's very difficult to find a Mac with a non-US keyboard at a US store, but Apple sells Macs with different keyboard layouts at the Apple Online Store if you want to > http://store.apple.com/us/mac/family/macbook-air
You can buy a MacBook Air with a French keyboard at the Apple Online Store, but if you want one with a Swiss keyboard, I recommend you to call the Apple Online Store to see if it's possible in the United States (1-800-MY-APPLE)

Can I buy a MacBook Pro with a foreign keyboard in the US?

I will be moving to Sweden soon and was wondering whether or not I am able to buy a MacBook Pro with a Swedish keyboard, in the US? It is a lot cheaper buying one in the US than in Sweden (I would save a few hundread dollars). The computer I am interested in is the 13 inch MacBook Pro with the Retina display.
If I am able to do so, do you know how I would order it? I can not find any options for it online...

I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. I don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key. Due to a brain injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She also uses a text to speech app to verbalize all of her needs since her speech isn't intelligible any longer either. And her vision was significantly affected also, so the keyboard has to be mounted about 6 inches from her face. So to reach across the keyboard with her left hand to the right side delete and enter button is physically difficult and causes typing errors, which cause people to not understand what shes trying to say.
The best keyboard so far is the Zagg folio mini. I just had to make stickers to enlarge the letters on the key buttons.
Does anyone know how I can reprogram these two keys? Or where I can buy a wireless mini keyboard for Ipad made for lefthanders with these two functions on the left side. I have searched for days and days. It's sooooo important to me that she be able to contribute her voice again. Imagine if you got in a car accident and couldn't speak clearly any longer, but understood everything still. Thanks for any help and suggestions you all take the time to share with me. I really appreciate the kindness of strangers to help me help my daughter.

You can definitely just connect a mouse and keyboard and then an external monitor and it will work. In the power options in the Windows control panel you will have a choice as to what happens when the lid is closed. Set it to "do nothing" and then you can shut the lid of the laptop and use only the external monitor.

i have bought an aluminium case with an external keyboard for my ipad. it is a nice tool, and i would like to present it to a friend as well. but this friend lives in aother country with an other keyboard.

The selection of a different display keyboard does change the way the external keyboard works. There is a settings for software keyboard layouts and hardware keyboard layouts. How well it works, I don't know because I'm not familiar with any foreign keyboards. If you are familiar with a keyboard from your friend's country, perhaps you should add his country's keyboard to your setup and give it a try.

I am about to switch from PC to MAC, and I would like to buy Macbook Pro 13" 2.4Ghz.
I am French and I am living in Ireland for 6 months, so I have to buy my Macbook on the Irish Apple website.
During the ordering procedure, I saw I can order a computer with a AZERTY Keyboard (French), but I'd like to know if it's possible to order the computer with a French Leopard OS, or will it be by default in English and after I can put it in French ?? Please answer if you know, this is the last step before I buy my Mac!

Yes there is one. Click on the Service parts link at the bottom of the 55Y9003 page for a list of part numbers for various language versions. 55Y9014 is the French version.

How do you reset pram with an external keyboard

Hi, this is related to the keyboard and trackpad not working anymore on my 21month old MBP. I tried reinstalling osx 10.5 and no luck. Tried holding down the power button for 10seconds, got the beep but no trackpad and keyboard afterwards. The preference pane does not show up in the system pref panel anymore for the trackpad. I even downgraded to 10.4. and no luck. So question is there anyway to reset the pram with an external usb keyboard hooked up to the MBP. That is the only way that I can type right now. Or should is this a logic board issue. My video had been having issues about a week ago. The screen would stay blank and also zoom would work properly with pdfs or in CAD (it would be very pixelated at times). Any thoughts. Did the new firmware update fry my computer. Help Apple!

Hi Bob.
You can reset pram via a external usb keyboard the same way you would normally reset pram. Apple + Option + P + R. However pram will do nothing to your situation. Sounds as like you are having much bigger issues. When you reinstalled the OS, what type of install did you do? If you did an erase and install without bringing back you data, you probably have a hardware issue.

I was wondering if I could buy a MacBook Pro with a Turkish keyboard while I'm in the States? In the store you can choose whether you want an English, Spanish, Japanese or a French keyboard, is this possible for any other language such as Turkish?
Please don't answer saying "Why don't you just buy it in Turkey?" because the Macs in Turkey are out dated and cost nearly twice as much.

No, you cannot buy Mac's with Turkish keyboards in the US.
Mac's are always more expensive outside the US and everyone thinks it would be great to bypass their local resellers to save money, but it's not possible unless you want one of those 4 keyboards listed in the store.
