Problems with headsets

Hi,
We're having issues with Plantronics's CS50 headsets and 7960 phones. Users are having choppy voice or even audio cut-off during a conversation, this happens when both the caller and the called one are talking simultaneously.
One of the users seems to be having more problems than the others, we changed the phone, the headsets, the sw port, we checked the wiring, nothing fixed it. We even exchanged device, headset with another user who's setup is exactly the same, but in the office just next to him, same issue again with the other one's gear. So we tought it was an "environment" thing, like something is interfering in HIS office only.
But since this morning, we have the issue with 3 users, 2 of them are physically next to each other and the third one is physically apart, so not on the same sw, but still in the same building. So, I'm confused and don't know were to look at.
We did the Plantronics procedure to reset the headset, did the tuning, reset the phones, etc. but nothing seems to fix the problem, so now the users are using their handset...

That is a tough one! Like David, we use many CS50's with a variety of Cisco phones (7940,7960,7941,7961) with little or no problems. We did have a bad power bump one day that forced us to have to reset a number of CS50's. Maybe you had a power problem last night or this morning that has caused this. I would do a system reset on all 3 headsets to start with.Here are links to a couple of good Plantronics guides;

For the one user that you have been having more problems with is the base unit a good distance away from the phone,PC, monitor,printer,photo copiers etc? One other thing is that we always have set the compatability dial to 4 for best results.

The problem is, that the default recording device "Line-in" doesn't detect any sound when I have it plugged in. Further more, when I change it to "SB X-Fi micropone" it does detect my voice, but its on some kind of feedback loop, because it then transmits whatever the mic picks up onto my speakers/headphones/whatever I have plugged into it as an output. Its almost like they have the "line-in" and "microphone" functions either switched or blended into one. I did a complete reinstall of the drivers and software, but no luck. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    What I mean is the microphone jack on your x-fi notebook. since you are saying you can hear yourself when you switch the recording source to microphone, I would assume that you have plugged in a microphone into your x-fi notebook. You should check if there is a microphone control on your volume mixer and whether it is unmuted if there is one. There are many sound card which allows for the microphone audio to be heard on the speaker output if the microphone source is unmuted.

  • N95 problem with headset

    Guys, I have a strange problem with my N95 and it's headset... When I plug the headset in I get a message saying "Enhancement Not Supported".
    ANy ideas why this could be happening?

    wierdly enough i had that same problem amoungst others. After doing my head in and contacting service providers u will find that the head set is used as mainly for audio purposes (ie listening to music etc)
    if however u do recieve a call u can answer and talk BUT! the headset control buttons cannot control making a call !rather its main only function is to listen to audio files.
    pretty silly really.
    it is briefly mentioned in the manual.
    and the error msgs of file not supported usually come up when the user tries to do anything but play audio files (ie: make a simple call, or pressing the headset buttons after exiting audio files)
    The only bluetooth headset made for talking is the BH-900
    which would've been the best option supplied instead!!

    in order to maintain a low profile on the streets, I use an old wh-102 headset on my N8, and it worked - even with a Belle upgrade.
    It is possible that the plug in the headset is not plugged all the way in, you should hear a loud click when it is properly plugged in.
    I have this problem before, the protective case have a small hole for the headphone jack which prevented the insulator of lhe jack from touching the phone when it is fully plugged in. 
    At first I thought the problem is related to the Belle upgrade.  But after I removed it from the protective case, the 3.5 mm jack plugged in with a loud click, and the headset works like a dream.

    I have the following problems:
    - I can't manage sound through headset by using the volume-control on the side of the device (thus, I can't choose volume when watching videos, because there is no audio adjustment function in the video program besides this)
    - The volume-control on the side of the device seems to do nothing when headset is coupled (no change in volume in general settings).
    - Raising og lowering the volume in general settings has no effect.
    - The overall volume range is set too high (I can adjust volume by tapping on screen when listening to music, so I figured this out. Too loud in movies...)

    Hi, I get two problems about my Lumia 920 and my phone is still in warranty. Im just wondering whether these two issues are included in the warranty?
    1. The left one of my headset suddenly goes wrong today, it cant give any sound now.  Can it be fixed?

    Refer this for more details and the respective validity period ..
    BTW, for the Headset issue, first check whether you are inserting the pin properly till the end. You may try a slight rotating actin or pull / push a few times and see. Also check whether there is any dirt within the post on the device that you can clean without damaging any terminals inside ..

    Please try a battery pull restart , if you have not done yet . Do it by removing the battery while your device is Powered On , wait for atleast a min. then reinsert it back , after reboot please check if error persists .
    If problem continues then you should try to perform a Clean OS reload to rule out any software issue , for help you can refer to this Knowledge Base , but first do a backup using Desktop Software :

    If it is software, set it to factory default, else re-install FW after backing up your files!
    If hardware, you might have a sticky switch contact, try to spray the phone receptacle with contact cleaner, or a perfume(contains alcohol), lighter fluid if you don't have one. Be sure the phone is turn off & battery remove. Push & pull the headset several times, allow the spray liquid to dry up. Replace the battery & power up.

    Prior belle fp2 sound was working fine, after updating to belle fp2 headset sound turns too noisy, reinstalling update is of no use as i came to know that these update actually update the rom better to patched ROM. Once you have a buggy update it is hard to fix it by updating, The only solution i see is the BOX Flushing. I am pretty sure this is a software issue, as i have tried different headset and also changed the audio jack. Visiting the Nokia care is a pathetic experience. I already visited once, they charged me for doing nothing, when my cell was in warantee period. Cell was returned as it was. I don't believe on nokia anymore, i am expecting someone can help me in this situation.

    It can be the same issue, as there are actually two microswitches in there: one for diverting analog output from the speakers to the phones, and another one for switching analog to digital when a TOSlink cable is plugged in.
    Do you see a red dot of light way in the back? If yes, then the jack got switched to digital mode.

    The other options are "mono mix", "stereo mix", "Aux", "CD player", "Line In" and "Phone Line".
    None of them seem to work though.

    Hy, for starts I will say I run Windows 7 and my problem with headset is that when i use application that uses microphone (Skype, Ventrilo) I have some background sound distortion. I can't explain it best, for example: when my hard is processing data i hear that distortion in my headset and its only when i use programs i said above. I've did all the things you advised in previous posts with changing sample rate, updated firmware, downloaded newest drivers, first the ones for Vista 32 bit, then for Windows 7, neither fixed the problem. I also downloaded Creative Console Launcher and turned off 3D sound like someone said in previous posts but that didn't work either. After all of these things I finally went to shop where i bought headset and i got new ones and they have the same problem. So please can u give some solution?

    When you post about Windows / Boot Camp, in Mac Pro (workstation) forum where others with a MacBOOK would be more likely to have same hardware configuration, and you won't find Windows drivers on Apple downloads. More like at

    They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

    I recently bought a Corseca Byte bluetooth headset.
    The headset works fine with phones.
    Initially when connected to the laptop running windows 8.1 it works well and continues to flawlessly for hours.
    The problem is when the headset is connected to the laptop but there is no audio streaming (e.g paused a movie playback for attending some other job) and resume playback after 10-15 minutes the audio starts stuttering/ becomes choppy. If I switch off the headset
    and restart it works fine unless it lays unused for some time.
    Windows recognizes the device correctly. I've turned off power management for BT devices and tried to update the drivers without any positive result.
    Initially I thought the headset was defective but since it works flawlessly with phones I think it is a problem with Windows 8.1.
    How to solve the issue?

    Have you also tried to disable power management on wireless network connection adapter? Since some OEM computers also combine some features of Bluetooth to wireless network connection adapter.
    This issue can be mostly caused by drivers. Please contact the menufacturer's to see if the latest driver is compatible with Windows 8.1.
    If not, I suggest you find the driver for Windows 8 /7 and install it in compatible mode in Windows 8.1 to see what's going on.
    Also, post back the C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log and event log you can find in event viewer related to this issue here for our research.
