Problems with iCal 2.0.5 subscribing to a .mac calendar published with 3.0

I'm having trouble subscribing to a calendar published on my .mac account on my older machine which I keep at home. I have a nasty suspicion the problem may just be one of compatibility. But, as the home machine is only used for web browsing and itunes streaming I really have no need to upgrade it to Leopard!
Every attempt to subscribe results in the following message:
+"Error subscribing to the calendar+
+Data downloaded from http://[URL] is not valid."+
I've had a look through the forums and so far haven't found anything.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Surely Apple would ensure backwards compatibility to at least the previous version of iCal!!??!!

I have a similar problem, except my iCal 2 machine gets no error, just completes its subscription-refresh and ends as though everything went just fine. Although nothing ever gets updated.
I did check the .Mac location and the real ical file is there and updated per its modification date.

  • I have an iMac with 10.9.1 and an iPhone 5 also updated to the newest system and I cannot get a sync set up between Ical and the iPhone or Outlook 2011 mac calendar with the iphone

I have an iMac with 10.9.1 and an iPhone 5 also updated to the newest system and I cannot get a sync set up between Ical and the iPhone or Outlook 2011 mac calendar with the iphone. I would perfer using outlook but will settle for the Imac calendar

It depends on what iMac you have. If it is an old PPC (G4 orG5) iMac then no further upgrades are possible. If it an Intel iMac:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):

  • Problem Trying to Subscribe to a Google Calendar in iCal

We work with a freelance contactor who has shared his Google calendar to one of our staff. When he shares it she gets an email invitation, follows the included link, and can see the shared calendar just fine in Google Calendar.
She wants to have the calendar visible in iCal on her iMac as well. When we go to ‘Subscribe’ in iCal and enter the URL for the shared calendar we get this error:
There was an error subscribing to the calendar - a calendar wasn't found
The Google Calendar invite link includes a button for iCal – which generates the URL we enter when getting that error. There is also a button / option to get it in XML – we have tried that too and got the same error.
Has anyone seen this issue? Any suggested fixes?

Having the same problem here - it's driving me nuts!
I tried installing YAI, but I can't make it point to the correct calendar. I can cut and paste an event into the Google Calendar, but if it's an outlook invite it will delete the event on all the attendee's computers.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Those calendars are worthless and have not been updated in ages.

  • Problem with subscribed calendars

Hi all, I have a problem with subscribed calendars and a app that I use the developer says the problem is with apple so I thought I would ask here.
I use Roster Buster to decode my airline roster which is then available as a calendar for me to subscribe to, this all works very well but as soon as I subscribe to my wife's roster buster calendar the problems start. Every time I enter calendar all events are there for both my wife's flights as well as my own but as soon as calendar refreshes all events change to the same so we both have the same flights ( either all my flights or my wife's ) so I have to refresh all calendars again to overcome this.
This only happens on the iPad and only since  ios7 works fine on the iPhone 5.
    Any ideas ?
    Regards Stuart.

I've got what i think is a pretty good fix to this.
subscribing to calandars via iCal on your Mac is the way to go. you can subscribe, set the colour and tell it to push via iCloud to your iOS devices. they come through with the correct colour and stay that way.
    all good
however, i can't seem to delete the subscribed calandars i have on my iPhone. every time i delete the subscription, they just come back in again! quite annoying, but at least you can untick it so that it doesn't show up. which it would go away for good though.
much happier now i'm controlling everything through iCal and iCloud

  • Intermittent problem with iCal

My girlfriend has a new Macbook, and has set up 3 calendars (1 of which is Published using www.icalx.com) and she subscribes to my calendar (which is published over MobileMe).
Every time (or nearly every time) she opens iCal, no calendars are showing up at all. In fact, sometimes even the dates don't show up in the mini-month view.
It seems to be a problem with the iCal app more than anything, it's as if it isn't opening properly.
Her shared calendars are still showing up in my iCal on my iMac, so I know the data hasn't been lost, its just a local display issue.
    Any way of reinstalling/repairing iCal?
    Cheers

After further investigation, Ashley is spot on - if I exit iCal with the ToDo bar open on the right, the next time I open iCal my calendar's have disappeared and the little blue push pin icon that closes the ToDo list won't work, it can't be de-selected.
However if I choose Hide ToDo List from the menu, the ToDo list disappears and my calendars reappear.
If I exit iCal with the ToDo list hidden, the next time I start iCal everything is fine.
I even tried reinstalling iCal from the OS X Install CD, but no luck, the problem persists.
So it seems the temporary solution is to not use ToDos.
By the way, this problem only exists on my girlfriend's new MacBook - I can use iCal on my iMac, including ToDos, just fine.

  • Ical on multiple computers - There was a problem with an alarm

I set up my iCal to sync between my home computer and a Mac at work on my desk. Whenever I schedule an important appointment I schedule a reminder that runs a script that says "15 minutes to your appointment" or something similar.
The scripts are stored on the hard drive of my laptop at work and it works pretty well there. But on my home machine every day I get "There was a problem with an alarm" dialog boxes because it cannot find the script.
I tried working around this by storing the scripts on my iDisk drive, but then the proper functioning of the calendar and the reminder depends on whether or not the Internet connection is up and the iDisk is online.
Any recommendations for how I can eliminate the issue? I think the solution probably lies in storing the scripts in a similarly labeled folder on both machines, e.g. /Users/mpender/Documents/Speech, but that doesn't quite work for me. Also, it would be highly desirable to have the speech folder sync so that changes like the introduction of new reminder messages would appear in both places.
I'm open to suggestions, but there has to be some way to address this using relative path name addressing.
    Thanks, Mike

I found that this works reasonably well if I store the speech scripts in the iDisk and turn on iDisk syncing to keep a local synchronized copy of the speech scripts.

  • Problems with Repeating Events on Palm and iCal

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with daily-repeating events entered into either my Palm or iCal. When I put events in my palm and sync them to iCal, the iCal calendars look right, but then the Palm events become truncated,i.e. only the first day of daily event will be visible. If I do nothing but just sync again, the events in iCal become weirdly duplicated, i.e. if an event had two repeats, the "original" occurrance will be there, along with a second, starting on next day of the series, lasting for the same number of repeats. Is there any way to make one calendar the overwriting calendar while using iSync? Or do you know of some other fix? This problem doesn't seem to affect other repeating events, either monthly or yearly.
    Thanks

As I just posted in another thread, there are a whole series of 'representation disconnects' between the Palm calendaring application and iCal.
While this article— iSync: About Syncing Recurrent Events Between iCal and Palm OS Based Devices—would lead to you believe that iSync is primarily the issue, it's not: this behavior occurs primarily because of the differences between the calendaring programs in each environment, and only secondarily because of the manner in which records are pushed and pulled by the synchronization framework.
iSync itself is simply another compliant sync client, and there is unfortunately no workaround for the issues delineated in the article.

  • ICal syncing problems (with Lion?)

I've only noticed this since upgrading to Lion but I am having problems syncing my phone and iCal via iTunes.
To start, I spent almost 3 hours on the phone with Apple a few days ago and we thought we fixed the issue.  Here were the original problems:
event made on phone would not sync to computer at all
event made on computer would sync to phone but...
it would also make duplicate events in one of two ways:
would make identical event at same time on different calendar
would make random New Event items where I never made them
So, we spent 3 hours and basically fixed it
Now, today, I'm having major problems with recurring events getting screwed up.  I'm a teacher, so I put in my teaching schedule via recurring events.  Fine.  Then I delete a week off for a break on the computer and sync and it still shows up on the phone.  Computer is blank and phone has weekly schedule still there.  So, I pick a day and manually delete events in the phone and sync again.  That day is now gone from phone and computer but the other 4 days of the week (which were blank on the computer) now REAPPEAR on the computer.
Does anybody have any solutions or has anybody experienced the same?  My impression is that it started happening when I installed Lion.  I am not sure that is the case because I wasn't intensely using my computer in the month after I installed Lion.  Maybe it has to do with iOS?  Maybe iTunes?  It is really a horrible feeling to no longer trust your calendar program.  How do I know if it's accurate or not?
What happened to the days when Apple just worked?!  That is why I paid a premium for this computer and phone.  If I want to troubleshoot important things all day on a Sunday I can save $1000 and buy a PC.

Thank you for sharing Derek. I have exactly the same issues you described in your bullet points, and it started with the Lion upgrade (I even bought a MacBook Air at the same time...)
When you say "we basically fixed it" -- can you share what the issue was and how you fixed it with Apple?
    Thanks

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • ICal Problem with Mobile Account/Home and where are the calendars stored

I am using MacMinis in an office with my MacPro SnowLeopard Server running LDAP with NetworkHome accounts. Almost everything works except this ical is driving me nuts.
The problem is iCals don't sync with the NetworkHome. When I look in usr/library/calendars a new calendar appears there but it won't sync on to a different machine.
What is even more frusterating, if I disconnect the server so I am just logging in locally, I can delete all the calanders in usr/library/calendars, but when I log back in the calendars just re-appear. So where else is ical storing calendar information?
    thanks
    jake

where else is ical storing calendar information?
in a folder in usr/library/syncservices/local. You will have to look in the clientname.txt file in each of the folders to find which one is for iCal.

  • ICal 3.x .ics import - problem with recurring events and non-unique UIDs

Upgraded to Leopard over the holiday break. Under Tiger's iCal (v2.x), .ics files exported from other calendar programs (Outlook via iAppoint/O2M in this case) and imported into iCal behaved 'normally'. However, in iCal 3.x in Leopard, for recurring appointments in the exported calendar, only the last appointment in the series shows up in iCal (although some meetings show up for about 0.25 seconds during the calendar import, then immediately disappear! This post by MalcolmS provided the critical clue - it seems that for recurring events, the .ics file has all of the events in the series with the same UID. Previous versions of iCal didn't care, but v3 apparently does - and deletes all earlier versions of the event, leaving only the last one with that UID. I confirmed that is the case by opening the .ics file in Word, which clearly showed all of the recurring events, and all the events in a series (e.g. a weekly meeting for the year) had the same UID. After the import to iCal, only the last one is in the calendar (in the above example, the one meeting of the series occurring in the last week of December). Manually editing the UIDs of a recurring series in the .ics file (to make them actually unique) allows them to all show up in iCal after import.
Since many of the events in my Outlook calendar are accepted invites for recurring appointments, re-creating them as individual calendar events in Outlook is not a viable option. The frequency of changes to my calendar means I usually export it once per day (or twice); thus, manually editing the .ics files is also not a viable option.
Any suggestions on workarounds for this problem? Alternatively, any other suggestions for getting the calendar data from Outlook into iCal?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Problem with printing the correct "ical" pages.

    G'day
I have only recently started using "iCal", on the cloud, having upgraded my laptops to "Lion" and my iPhone to "5", so that I have NOT experienced any of the "syncing" problems of which I have read elsewhere.
BUT, I do have an irritating problem, the solution to which, being a long-term Mac user, should be obvious.
The problem stems fronm the fact that I am located on the east coast of Australia, and my laptops know this.
The first, really daft, thing that I did was to create a whole lot of iCal entries, in iCloud, without noticing that the default timezone was "Pacific".
So, OK, I fixed that by going into my ID on iCloud and changing the timezone, and then editing every single event that I had entered at that point in time.
So, I then thought that I had beaten the beast, because I had only been printing "Weekly" calendars, which were OK.
Today, I decided to print some "daily" calendars, and the system WILL NOT PRINT THE CORRECT DATE.
My iCal entries are mainly to do with a trip that that starts on 1st August this year. I bring up iCal on the Mac, go to the print page, select 01 Aug 2012, and it prints 31 July 2012.
This happens whether I tick the "Timezone" preference in iCal on the Mac, or not.
    What else should I do?
    Dave the Desperate

    Hi Srikanth,
In the second page you can insert a command to set it to goto page 3,and an additional event in the command (only after the end of main window).
As soon as the main window ends in the second page...u will get the third and rest of the pages.
Keep the goto next page in PAge 1 as Page2
and in Page 2 as Page 2.

  • Problems with iCal syncing

I had this problem with my original iPhone and I also ran into it this morning while using my new iPhone 3G.
While syncing the iCal events to my phone, iTunes basically says it is syncing continuously. I actually went to bed one night with it saying it was 'syncing Calendar events' and when I woke up it was still doing the same thing.
I don't know if it is because I have events in there, like birthdays or PayDays, that have it as a yearly or weekly cycle, and don't have an ending date or if there is something else causing the problem. I've tried changing the end dates to the end of this year, but it didn't help.
So I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem, or had a solution to it. Any helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have not experienced the same, but I suggest resetting the sync history on your Mac as a first step. This is done with iSync preferences with the iSync application in your Applications folder.
After selecting reset sync history, restart your Mac and try again.
