Problems with iCal invitees 10.6.8

Hi
I have just upgraded fro 10.5 server to 10.6 server, Ialthough iCal is basically workign Ok I cannot work out what to do about a problem with attendees in iCal.
Whenever I try to add an attended i iCal, as I start typing it tries to autocomplete just as it used to in 10.5,  However, whichever attendee i select, it always ends up with an exclamation mark next to it, and I get an error message:
The server responded:
“HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden”
to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation.
I dont quite believe the error message, there is not a problem with my permissions as such, because I can create and edit and delete events in this calendar to my heart's content.  This shared calendar was created with iCal Server Utility, and i used calendarserver_manage_principlas to give me write permission.  I know i have write permission fr this calendar, because I *can* write i, and because I can see in my delegation settings that I have write permission.
As this is a shared calendar, so I just tried to add an attendee to an event in my own calendar. the behaviour is similar, I get the exclamation mark, but no error message.
Is it relevant that we are currently *not* runnign a mail srver
Can anyone suggest what I can do to breathje life into this feature please - attendees are pretty important for us.
May thanks for any help.

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • Hi everyone. I have just started having problems with iCal.  Events that I thought I had deleted are appearing on Print Preview and on print outs. Likewise Events which I have not deleted have disappeared from my calenders, but appear in print preview.

Hi everybody. I have recently started having problems with iCal (Version 2.05 (1069). Events that I thought I had deleted appear in Print Preview and Print Outs. Likewise Events that I have not deleted have disappeared from my calender (Month View) but appear in Print Preview and Print Outs. I see that there have been similar problems with Events disappearing especially in Month View. I wondered how print preview seemrd to be picking everything up deleted or not, and what the solution may be?. First time of Posting. I hope I haven't embarassed myself.

    Hmmmm.
At the very least there must be a "com.apple.ical.plist"...iCal would not function without it.
Click on the Finder icon in the dock
    Click on Go > Home
    Double-click Library
    Double-click Preferences
Look for a file called "com.apple.ical.plist" and remove it to the trash.

  • GUI problem with iCal

Suddenly I am experiencing problems with iCal crashing after I try to drag items into the TO DO column. The calender grid suddenly shows through the TO DO area and everything comes to a halt. Any suggestions.
    Dual 450 G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

When I try to do anything involving the "to do"'s things just stop working. Here is where it gets strange. If I transfer via iSync a "to do" from my palm pilot to iCal the "to do" will not show up in iCal. BUT then when I sync Omni Outliner with iCal it will pull the "to do" from somewhere in iCal and put it in the "in box" in Omni Outliner. What in the heck is going on here?

  • Problems with iCal and Picasa: related to system battery?

Just over the past two days, iCal has been repeatedly showing alarms at 5 past the hour, and Google Update has been repeatedly (much more often than hourly) asking for me to update Picasa, even though I successfully updated the first time the dialog box appeared a couple of days ago.
The iCal alarm that popped up while I was reading this showed alarms dating back to 23:55 GMT on Monday 15 November. If I leave my computer for more than 2 hours I do not get duplicate alarm windows stacked up.
Racking my brain for recent changes made which may be significant (I use my computer so much it seems to be in a continuous state of flux):
    -I reset the SMC
    -I upgraded to 10.6.5
-My slot-loading drive has been failing to eject CDs (probably a red herring. I've been using a script to repeatedly use drutil tray eject 1 until ejected).
Other details which may or may not have a bearing:-
I use Parallels Desktop 5 regularly, which slows my machine down considerably.
I have an iPhone 3G which I sync with iCal, iTunes, Adress Book etc.
Any other changes, I really can't remember. Is there any way to look at log files (which I find monumentally off-putting, but would try), or something else, to easily pick out my recent significant changes? The fewer sources I have to check the better, as I am very time-poor.
Obviously thanks and respect go to anyone who can be helpful.

This solved my the problem ! The solution was written by a Googe employee.
I assume you've enabled two-factor authentication for your Google account. In this case, you'll have to generate an access code at https://www.google.com/
accounts/IssuedAuthSubTokens - and use that code in place of your password in the iPhone Mail settings.
You'll have to generate a new access code for each place you log in that doesn't support two-factor authentication (i.e. anywhere except in a browser).
Since the apple email client doesn't support the new gmail authenticator, you have to generate a code via the link above and use that in place of your regular password.

  • Problems with iCal syncing

I had this problem with my original iPhone and I also ran into it this morning while using my new iPhone 3G.
While syncing the iCal events to my phone, iTunes basically says it is syncing continuously. I actually went to bed one night with it saying it was 'syncing Calendar events' and when I woke up it was still doing the same thing.
I don't know if it is because I have events in there, like birthdays or PayDays, that have it as a yearly or weekly cycle, and don't have an ending date or if there is something else causing the problem. I've tried changing the end dates to the end of this year, but it didn't help.
So I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem, or had a solution to it. Any helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have not experienced the same, but I suggest resetting the sync history on your Mac as a first step. This is done with iSync preferences with the iSync application in your Applications folder.
After selecting reset sync history, restart your Mac and try again.

  • IPod touch sync problem with iCal

My iPod touch (3th gen) doesn't sync any new appointment with iCal anymore (and vice versa). He only sync the older appointments, even when replacing all data from iCal to the iPod. I think the problem started since installing OS X Lion. I do not work with MobileMe, but directly via iTunes. How can I solve this problem?

Did you try to click either "all" or "selected"? If you click "selected" you need also to click on the different calenders that you set up. For example, if you have djm027 calender (that is calender for yourself), another calender for sister, another calender for your brother and so forth. You need to click them all if you want to be seem on your iPod Touch. And if you only want yours then you just click djm027. I am not sure if this help. This is how I fix the problem myself.

    Matt02,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Those calendars are worthless and have not been updated in ages.
Go back several years and you will probably find entries.

I suggest that you submit: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ical.html

  • Annoying cosmetic problems with iCal

Since I upgraded to Leopard, I've noticed 2 cosmetic faults with iCal. :
    1. In the icon for iCal, the number that represents the date is too low down. You can only see the top half of the date. Above the number there's just white space. It looks like iCal is writing the number too low down.
    2. In iCal itself, the current month is also too low down. You can only see the top half of the month "November 2007" - the bottom part is truncated.
Does anyone else have these issues, or is it just me?

Haven't seen those image problems mentioned by the first poster.
Hate the bungee jumping panel which requires much too much mousing and would very much like to see an info panel/pane/drawer again.

  • Intermittent problem with iCal

My girlfriend has a new Macbook, and has set up 3 calendars (1 of which is Published using www.icalx.com) and she subscribes to my calendar (which is published over MobileMe).
Every time (or nearly every time) she opens iCal, no calendars are showing up at all. In fact, sometimes even the dates don't show up in the mini-month view.
It seems to be a problem with the iCal app more than anything, it's as if it isn't opening properly.
Her shared calendars are still showing up in my iCal on my iMac, so I know the data hasn't been lost, its just a local display issue.
    Any way of reinstalling/repairing iCal?
    Cheers

After further investigation, Ashley is spot on - if I exit iCal with the ToDo bar open on the right, the next time I open iCal my calendar's have disappeared and the little blue push pin icon that closes the ToDo list won't work, it can't be de-selected.
However if I choose Hide ToDo List from the menu, the ToDo list disappears and my calendars reappear.
If I exit iCal with the ToDo list hidden, the next time I start iCal everything is fine.
I even tried reinstalling iCal from the OS X Install CD, but no luck, the problem persists.
So it seems the temporary solution is to not use ToDos.
By the way, this problem only exists on my girlfriend's new MacBook - I can use iCal on my iMac, including ToDos, just fine.

  • Problems with iCal Server 2 and Snow Leopard Clients

I am currently running iCal Server 2 on Snow Leopard Server, with approximately 6 client computers connected to a single shared calendar account.  I have digest authentication enabled, and am thus using Kerberos (but not SSH), as well as 3 iPhones.
Upon initial connection, I can get all the clients - computers and phones - to properly pull down all the calendar data, and match one another.  However, several of the computers are having trouble updating properly when new events are added.  After some troubleshooting, it seems that the computers running Snow Leopard are not properly updating with events that are entered from other computers, either Snow Leopard or Leopard.  They can, however, post events to the server themselves without any errors.  Interestingly, the Leopard computers can push and pull updated events just fine, and will update with new events whether they originated from a Snow Leopard or a Leopard client.
We had some recurring login/authentication issues a while back, which seemed to resolve when I disabled digest authentication; I'm wondering if perhaps that has something to do with the problems now.  We're mostly using BusyCal as client software, with the iPhones obviously using iCalendar.
Just looking to see if anyone else has had similar problems, with Leopard clients working well and Snow Leopard clients having issues.  Thanks!

    Noby_me,
A lot of folk are having major issues with many Adobe programs and Snow Leopard. You are not alone. For many, rolling-back to Leopard has been the cure. From "word on the street," it appears that Apple is aware of these issues and are working on an OS update. I have no schedule, but that word was out about a month ago, so let's hope that the update is soon in coming.
You might want to do a Search on this, the Encore and the PS fora for "Snow Leopard." There are plenty articles.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • 6 weeks of problems with Ical- Please help

For 6 weeks now I have been having problem after problem with Mobileme, Ical, and contacts synchronizing with my imac, laptop, and iphone after at least two years of no problems. I have been to the Apple store over 6 times and have had 3-4 hour long chats with Apple technicians and have had 3-4 emails with an advanced technicians. Everyone is quite nice and really seems to be trying to help fix the problems, sadly, this situation is still not resolved. My confidence that Apple knows what is going wrong or knows how to fix it have really taken a hit and I'd ask anyone who has the savvy to help me with this to PLEASE help me out here.
    The current situation is:
Cannot log into Mobile me to get my calenders - Apple can't either. We both can log in to idisc, contacts, etc. though all are duplicated 2-3 times.
If you try to sync with the phone, including after re-setting what appears to be a correct calender on to mobileme first, the phone calender will appear completely blank.
Manual sync with the USB works. However, even if you totally wipe the whole iphone and then install just what is on the computer, some appointments are missing on the iphone! I have verified that there are just the correct calenders listed on the imac so the appointments missing on the iphone are part of the calender listed on the imac. (When I wiped the iphone and choose automatic sync, numerous calenders were seen. Part of the reason there were so many calenders at all was part of the problem I initially had and the result of apple technicians trying to fix it!)
I now have. mac and .me mail accounts listed on my iphone despite the fact that the .mac account had been replaced with the .me account of the same name by at least two technicians at the Apple Store and Ichat.
I need help immediately and cannot either wait for Apple or have much confidence they know what is going on.

Yes this has been a nightmare for me and started with duplicate dates, followed by duplicate calenders, and 2 years of lost data, followed by duplicate contacts. I am clear that some of this is the direct result of how I was advised to fix my problems.
I have seen 2-3 people report problems around this same time frame. The techs at apple have denied a system problem from that time but like you it is odd that a system that seemed to work perfectly went wrong at that for at least the two of us and three other people that I know of. I have only reviewed a portion of the posts.
My conclusion is that Apple does not provide adequate warnings or instructions regarding how to interface with ical, syncing with mobile me, or what needs to be backed up even though one is putting one's data on the cloud and 1-3 other devices. Further, the protocols Apple techs use to deal with these kinds of issues seem to be leading to more problems.
I have saved a comprehensive log of my chats with Apple and my interactions with the "genius bar" at Apple that I'd be willing to post here or share via email that shows how this process evolved and what choices were made to remedy the situation.
To briefly illustrate my point consider these things I've learned in the process:
1). Apple does not design all of it's key software with auto back-up like they do with Final Cut, or Intuit does with "Quicken". Apple told me that they expect someone would use the "export" or " back-up iCal" from the file menu. They also said that I had the option of using the utility "back-up" or "Time Machine" if I wanted "auto" back up.
I must admit to feeling pretty stupid about all of this until I remembered that Apple emphasized the automatics of "the cloud" as next step after the "Palm". Even the "Missing Manual" bills it that way. So... I just plugged and played as they say and did not actively make sure that I needed to back Ical up! I also thought that since my iphone backs everything up when you synchronize that everything would be saved. Anyone have any ideas how to get your calender off the iphone back up if the cloud and your computer files are wrong? I've been told that you cannot. I am also a bit unclear about what files need to be backed up if I want to use Time machine or back up to protect my Calenders? Again can't they just say so?
2). It has come to my attention after talking to 4 different Apple reps that the Itunes interface is a bit unclear. I was told that IF YOU USE MOBILE ME, YOU CANNOT HAVE THE SYNC BOXEXS CHECKED FOR ICAL, MAIL,CONTACTS, OR YOU WILL HAVE DUPLICATE ENTRIES. I am not sure if this is true or what started the whole problem. It does kind of make sense given there are Mobile me options in the system prefs for what to do with them as well.
Apple should have told me the above after they tried to resolve this duplicate problem last December by resetting my mobile me with my laptop, deleting and reinstalling my account on my phone and syncing with Mobile me. If they had, I would not have had the duplicate entries and as well as accounts a few weeks later. I also would not have tried using the same method to re-fix the problem leading to all my calenders prior to mid December being destroyed!
Why wasn't that warning in the itunes sync dialogue box to begin with?

  • Strange problems with iCal group calendar

    Hi,
I got some strange problems with group calendar. They are evil so that we may decide to throw it away because under this cirumstances it's not usable for our company.
    1) If we add events running more than one week in webcalendar, we can see it in the actual week, but not in the following weeks.
    2) The webcalendar seems to be 2 hours in the future, we cannot find how to change time zone or whatever. We can see, that we added a new event at 4pm, in the list of recent changes we see that this event was added at 6pm.
    3) In the Wiki we can see the usernames in the list of recent changes, but in calendar there is only unknown. But there are no anonymous users, only named users within these group.
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Rene

If I hadn't been using iCal/Google Calendar for over 18 months, with reminders from both systems playing nicely over that period, I'd happily agree with you. The issue with Reminders only began (for me, at least) in February this year. I agree that there's potential for conflict, and maybe both sets of developers finally threw in the towel. This is a pity, because I like both systems, but I feel slightly irritated at being effectively told by Google or Apple that I have to choose sides.

  • Problem with iCal events after waking from sleep mode

I have a daily iCal reminder that starts playing a playlist in iTunes at 6:00 am. However, if I leave the computer in sleep mode at night, and then manually wake the computer (BEFORE 6:00 am), the iCal event won't play on time...it's delayed 20-30 minutes. Any ideas why?

Have you tried it with a different mouse? I'm no expert, but you might want to find out, if the problem is mouse-specific.

  • IPhone sync problem with iCal and Address Book

I have a new iPhone 4 that is not syncing contacts or events. It doesn't seem to matter whether the event or contact is created in my iMac or on the iPhone. Either way, the data doesn't move. During the iPhone synch process, where iTunes tells you what is going on, syncing calendars and contacts doesn't even appear. When I had my iPod Touch, all worked well. I saw a post about resetting in iSync, etc., but when I look there, I don't even see my iPhone, and so far I can't add it. My only option there is to add a bluetooth device. So I need some help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Chuck

    You're welcome.
You can't hurt anything by resetting the sync history on your Mac, and doing so may resolve the problem.
Syncing contacts direct with a supported Address Book application and syncing calendar events direct with a supported Calendar app on your computer via the iTunes sync process has nothing to do with a MobileMe account - a trial account or otherwise. Completely separate and not related even if you are syncing contacts and calendar events over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone. If you are doing so with your iPhone, syncing direct with the Address Book and iCal via the iTunes sync process is not required.
