Problems with iCal Server 2 and Snow Leopard Clients

I am currently running iCal Server 2 on Snow Leopard Server, with approximately 6 client computers connected to a single shared calendar account.  I have digest authentication enabled, and am thus using Kerberos (but not SSH), as well as 3 iPhones.
Upon initial connection, I can get all the clients - computers and phones - to properly pull down all the calendar data, and match one another.  However, several of the computers are having trouble updating properly when new events are added.  After some troubleshooting, it seems that the computers running Snow Leopard are not properly updating with events that are entered from other computers, either Snow Leopard or Leopard.  They can, however, post events to the server themselves without any errors.  Interestingly, the Leopard computers can push and pull updated events just fine, and will update with new events whether they originated from a Snow Leopard or a Leopard client.
We had some recurring login/authentication issues a while back, which seemed to resolve when I disabled digest authentication; I'm wondering if perhaps that has something to do with the problems now.  We're mostly using BusyCal as client software, with the iPhones obviously using iCalendar.
Just looking to see if anyone else has had similar problems, with Leopard clients working well and Snow Leopard clients having issues.  Thanks!

Noby_me,
A lot of folk are having major issues with many Adobe programs and Snow Leopard. You are not alone. For many, rolling-back to Leopard has been the cure. From "word on the street," it appears that Apple is aware of these issues and are working on an OS update. I have no schedule, but that word was out about a month ago, so let's hope that the update is soon in coming.
You might want to do a Search on this, the Encore and the PS fora for "Snow Leopard." There are plenty articles.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Problems with ical server and mail

    I have a Mac Mini with Mac Os X Snow Leopard Server. I have a external mail and when I receive a invitation ever it adds to local calendar, but I want to add in server calendar. How to configure it for add invitation to my server calendar?
    Another problem I have with calendar that's I can't send invitation to contacts I have added in CardDav Server, just I can send invitations to local contacts.
    And another question how to sync the user's contacts with CardDav account?

    this is a big pain in the ***, bug!
    when you have more than one calendar account (lets say one local one CalDAV iCal starts doing silly things.
    what i found that worked is click on the calendar you want the event to be in and drag the .ics to iCal from Mail and drop it on the calendar (in the middle of iCal NOT the Calendars name)
    i have write up a bug report to apple so hopefully it gets fixed now that MobileMe uses CalDAV.
    seems to be a problem that mail app doesn't see CalDAV calendars.

  • Leopard Server and Snow Leopard Clients

    We have Leopard Servers in our school district. People are purchasing new Macs with Snow Leopard installed. Can the Snow Leopard Clients be managed reliably with Leopard Server?

    Outlook 2007 has limited support for 'Internet calendars' http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA101673251033.aspx
    Outlook 2003 has none.
    Outlook 2010 may have more but is not out yet.
    You may find add-ins but if they have their heart set on Outlook it might be better to try Microsoft Online Services which is cheap, or Windows Live Small Business which is free I think (or used to be) - that way they dont need a server at all, although their data would be 'in the cloud'.
    I would tell your friend not to run mixed versions of Outlook in any case. Perhaps its time to buy 7 MacBook Pros

  • Problems with games server and client

    Hi! I am making an MMORPG game and I have problems with the server and client connection.
    I can connect to the server, but when a second player does, the server console tells me this:
    java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
    After that, all clients disconnect.
    Which is the problem?
    How can I solve it?
    Thank you so much

    Here is how my sever work. I took some of this code from a book called Killer Programming Games in Java. If you google for it, you will find it for sure.
    TourGroup tg = new TourGroup(); // this object stores information about all clients connected to the server
        try {
          ServerSocket serverSock = new ServerSocket(PORT);
          Socket clientSock;

            new TourServerHandler(clientSock, tg).start(); // this is the thread that monitors each client
        catch(Exception e)

      } This is some code of TourServerHandler
    public TourServerHandler(Socket s, TourGroup tg)
        this.tg = tg;
        clientSock = s;
        name= "?";
        cliAddr = clientSock.getInetAddress().getHostAddress();
        port = clientSock.getPort();
        System.out.println("Client connection from (" +

       new InputStreamReader( clientSock.getInputStream() ) );
          PrintWriter out =
    new PrintWriter( clientSock.getOutputStream(), true );
    // and here goes the rest... The TourServerHandler thread uses this code to send messages:
    tg.broadcast(msg); tg.broadcast works like this:
    synchronized public void broadcast(String cliAddr, int port, String msg)

            c.sendMessage(msg);
      } This is the error part
    public void sendMessage(String msg)
      PrintWriter out;
        out.println(msg);
          System.out.println("OK");
      } I can't find any error but I still get that Connection reset exception...

  • Problems with Photoshop CS4 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

    I just upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and now my Photoshop CS4 is constantly crashing on me.  Adobe was no help.  Is there anything I can do to fix this?  I don't want to purchase CS5 just to prevent this from happening. I had no problems with CS4 w 10.5.8.  I also did a software update on CS4.  Help please!!

    "...Adobe was no help...."
    Meaning what exactly? CS4 should work with some problems. Google, "cs4 and snow leopard" and read the issues. You are also not alone if you look the the right side of this web page under, "More Like This" you'll others with the same issue.

  • Problem using text to speech with Pages 09 and snow leopard

    Hi,
    I am writing a large document and use the start speaking function often to hear parts of it read back after I write it.The speech sounds great for a page or two and then starts to become choppy and skips words and eventually becomes inaudible except for a few sputters. I would like to be able to listen to the entire document when I am done and would like to either solve the sputtering problem or find a new app that will allow a long paper to be read back by the computer. This problem is consistent on my macbook(2010) as well as my iMac(2009).
    Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

    I have to constantly reboot/restart between Lion on my New Thunderbolt Mini and Snow Leopard off and External Drive.
    Why? There is no good way to do what you're doing.

  • Problems with mail server and clients

    I have set up OS X server on my iMac with 2 MacBook Pros as clients. I have set up the server to be a mail server.
    I have two problems.
    1. I can successfully send and receive emails between the server and one MacBook Pro but neither send or receive mail on the other even though the settings are identical. I get the standard dialog box 'cannot connect using Port 25'.
    2. On the MacBook Pro that will send mail I can also send mail out of the LAN but mail sent to me is bounced back to the sender.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new to OS server my learning curve over the past week has been vertical!!!

    You are not alone. I have started a current thread because of the same problem, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1278072&tstart=0.
    Another thread ended with the poster claiming to have things working after a clean install, but I have had no such luck with any of my installations so far.
    Do you have only one domain on your server, or are you hosting virtual domains also?

  • Strange problem with AIX server and windows clients

    I am having a real bizzare problem with WLS 7.0.1 running on AIX 5.1 and
    clients on windows. We have J2SE Swing application as a client.
    If the client is w2k or XP, the first client gets good response. If I start
    another client the second client is horribly slow (2 sec vs 16 sec). Even if
    I kill the first client the second client continues to be slow. If I have 2
    clients open together, the first one continues giving 2 sec response while
    the second one continues with 16 sec. For that matter if I start another
    client after shutting down first one I get slow (16 sec) response.
    If the client is NT client I always get good and consistent response from
    the server. Irrespective of how many client I have on the NT machine, I keep
    getting good response. NT and W2K laptops are seating right next to each
    other on the same n/w and infact the NT is a much slower and lessor memory
    machine than W2K.
    We did similar tests keeping server on Solaris or NT server or W2K server,
    and the clients "behave" normally i.e I get consistent repsponse time (it
    may be slow or fast, but it is consistent and is consistent b/w NT and W2K).
    We even tried putting my laptop on the same network as the AIX server, but
    it did not help. Unfortunately some of our clients will be using AIX and

    Sounds like a reverse DNS lookup or similar network timeout.Thanks for the suggestion, but then why would the first client on w2k or XP
    get a better performance and the subsequent clients get worse performance?

  • Problems with iCAL,iPHOTO and Windows XP (using parrallells) after Leopard

    I installed Leopard and now iCAL won't publish to the web. When you try to access it from the web it says the page can't be located... that the calendar may have been deleted or renamed. No body at Mac can figure it out so far.
    I also can no longer open iPHOTO or any applications in Windows XP which I run from Parralells. This is a new issue that just occurred 3 days after the intial installation of Leopard.

    Because I created FAT32 partition using Boot Camp tool few days ago I installed my custom copy of Windows XP with SP3, IE7 and WMP10 integrated using nLite (for WMP10 integration use RVM Integrator). I did not use Boot Camp tool this time - I just booted CD using Option key. Then I installed Boot Camp 2.0 drivers you can find on Mac Disk 1. After this I installed Boot Camp drivers 2.1 update. In Add or remove Programs I checked drivers - I uninstalled old drivers which call identical, but you can skip this. Everything works fine BTW it is better to format your partition to NTFS - you have much less disk errors, you do not waste time for disk errors scans during Windows startup, your data are much more safe. If you need NTFS write permissions use great tool Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX or open source NTFS driver.

  • Tiger Server and Snow Leopard Server

    I have 2 servers. 1 is an old tiger server and the other a snow leopard. When I try to connect to either in the workgroup app. I am getting and error 14105 line 2334 error and the app unexpectedly quits. I want to be able to have a share point on the old server without users having to log in again. I would assume you could use LDAP for users but I am relatively new the MAC OSX servers. Thanks

    No progress yet. Have tried a lot of things with preferences on the server. I have confirmed with another snow leopard machine that this is not related to the machine in any way. I have not yet had a chance to test it on another Tiger server but given the fact that you are seeing it as well I would say there is a problem with the two operating systems cooperating.
    As I said, I do have a temporary workaround. If you do a save as with the document, choose to overrite the original it works and then lets you continue to work on that file and save for that session. After you close the file and reopen the problem returns but at least for that session you are fine.

  • ICal, Busysync, and Snow Leopard

    When I was using Tiger, I had iCal 2.0. I wanted to sync back and forth to my Google calendar. So, I bought a 3rd party app called Busysync that did the job just fine. Now I am using Snow Leopard, and my iCal version is 4.0. I am still using Busysync, which syncs just fine, but it looks like the current version of iCal can subscribe to my Google calendar without Busysync. Indeed, I just bought my wife a MacBook Pro, and I set up iCal to sync to Google Calendar no problem. So, is there any reason to continue to use Busysync? Is there something that Busysync does that I am missing here?

    Did you ever figure out an answer to this question? I'm wondering the exact same thing and I can't quite figure it out....

  • Problem with Time Machine, running Snow Leopard

    Hi all,
    Last week I had a new hard drive fitted into my iMac 8,1, after which Snow Leopard was reloaded (10.6.3 from the disc, updated to 10.6.8), followed by the restoration of data via Time Machine from my external hard drive. Whilst my Mac is now running beautifully, I am having problems backing up with Time Machine.
    When I run a backup, it prepares about 100,000 items, then starts to backup, usually about 650mb. It crawls along in kb until it gets to about 1mb, then jumps quickly to the end, but then it adds extra mb on the end. Then it suddenly starts again "preparing x items....." and off it goes again.
    I have tried repairing the backup disc, and it appears to be ok. I even erased it and started again. Time Machine did a full backup (139gb) in about 2 hours, then immediately added another 640mb at the end - strange, but I do at least have a full backup from yesterday. But now, everytime I run backup, it looks for the same sort of figure (650-700mb) and then goes round in circles.
    Any help would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks, David

    Hi Eric
    Thank you for your reply.  Here are the screenshots for each change:
    Having prepared about 95,000 items, the backup of 612mb begins
    14 minutes later a message appears
    Another 3 minutes and another message. You will see from this screenshot that the backup figure has changed to 613.1mb
    Another 30 seconds and it all begins again....
    And finally, 7 more minutes pass, another 96,000 items are prepared, and another 604.8mb backup begins.
    I might add, that between posting this morning, and your reply, I also went into disk utility, chose the top leve of the external drive, clicked on the partition tab, charged current to 1 partition, renamed the drive, erased it, and did a full back up of 139GB. After 137GB it started again, looked for 602mb, backed them up and finished the backup, which is why TM states that the last back up was at 18:16 today.
    Thanks again
    David

  • Issues with Safari 4 and Snow Leopard

    I had just installed Snow leopard and tried to run safari. I got an error message that said you can not run safari 4 public beta with this version of Mac os X. I went to the apple website and downloaded the new version of Safari 4 4.0.3 for Leopard and tried installing that. When the download completed i ran the dmg. file and began installing it was going smooth until i received another error message that said you can not install this version of safari because my Mac os X was not new enough and said i need version 10.5.8 or newer. I am running the newest operating system for a Mac. So i had figured that the version that i was trying to install was incompatible with snow leopard. If you encounter this problem rerun the installation disc and click optional installs this file contains the compatible version for the Safari web browser. When you open the file you choose the optionalinstalls.mpkg once in this file it will walk you through the onscreen installer follow the instructions and when you get to the installation type click the arrow on the left hand side of the applications and this will bring down a list of optional installs select the safari check box and click continue this will solve the safari issue.

    I know this is already marked as solved, but wanted to add to this.
    I "cleaned up" my dock by making separate stacks with links to the apps so I could put all internet in one, all games in another and so on.
    After I installed SL I too was having this problem, it wasn't until I went through the finder to each individual program and opened that way did I realize that my stacks were no longer pointing to the updated programs.

  • Com port failed with boot camp and snow leopard - Please help!

    Hi. I have been a very happy leopard and macbook user for the last couple of years. This week I upgraded to a macbook pro with OS X 10.6 snow leopard. I set up boot camp with Windows XP SP3as I have a couple of windows only applications that I need to use and they both need serial port. I had a Keyspan USA 19-QW serial adaptor that worked fine with Leopard and my old macbook. I installed the driver that came with the Keyspan adaptor. Now when I plug the adaptor into the USB slot it finds new hardware and says it is ready to use and the adaptor is listed in my ports as being on COM3 in device manager in windows but when I try to run the programs I get the message 'the selected port could not be opened. Either the port is in use by another application, or the port doesn't exist'. I'd be very grateful for any advice you can give me to solve this problem. Do I need to buy a new adaptor? Is this a settings or driver issue? I'm a user and not a techie person so please can you leave me easy step by step help. Many thanks. Karen

    And was wodering if snow Leopard is pré installed
    Yes.
    And also which disc that came with thé machine has boot camp on it
    None. Windows is a separate purchase.
    i havé read that to install windows7 you need to pût thé snow leopard disc in to complete thé installation
    That refers to the Boot Camp drivers for Windows, not Windows itself.

    OK,
    Well I have demoted my ODR (diary.mydomain.com) to just being connected to an ODM.
    Again, editing the user/groups records on the ODM doesn't give me any option to enable calendaring. However, I am able to enable calendaring for users and groups in the WGM if I connect to WGM as diary.mydomain.com. As my ical server is no longer a ODR, and only connected, is it safe to edit records on it and enable calendaring or I am still not getting this right?
