Problems with iMac 21.5 inch screen

Dear all,
As you can see on the pictures I have the following problems with my iMac. I get spots if I have to drag folder for example or when I open a picture in Preview. It is a normal background picture but if I open it in preview I get dots and since Maveriks it has become more worse. I get real weird lines.
I have the following iMac 21.5 inch:
- 21.5-inch, Mid 2010
- 3.6GHz Intel Core i5
- 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
- ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB
I have already tried:
- New internal memory;
- Reinstall OS X;
Apple can not really help. They also do not know what is problem. I also have no apple warranty.
Would anyone help me with this? You are my last attempt.
Thanks in advance.

My guess is your GPU (graphics processing unit) is failing. Take the machine to your local Apple Store and have a Genius examine it or take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). Please click https://locate.apple.com/country  to begin looking for an AASP in your area.

  • Problem with Powerbook G4 - 15 inch, machine ins currently connected to the

Problem with Powerbook G4 - 15 inch, machine ins currently connected to the DVI/AVI adapter so I can use the powerbook with a monitor attached, and have been doing so for about 3 months so far, with no problems, now, it wont boot up without giving me the grey screen with the "please restart, hold done restart button for several seconds etc". I did the power management reset, take out battery - even though battery dead, and remove adapter, hold down button for 5 seconds etc... it worked, finally booted up, but the DVI/AVI monitor adapter stuff was not connected when it booted up. When i put them back on, and tried to restart, i get the same "please restart, hold done restart button for several seconds etc" what do you think could be happening, could it be the DVI/AVI adapter or something a lot more serious

    Thanks and noted.
I'd suggest you post in the PowerBook G4 area. This forum is for
older, pre-G3 PowerBooks and so is probably not the
most likely place for you to get help with your G4.
    Good luck.

  • I have a problem with Imac mid 2010 graphics card (ATI Radeon 5670 512MB)

I have a problem with Imac mid 2010 graphics card (ATI Radeon 5670 512MB). When I play video formats like xvid, mkv, avi iMac freezes and emits horrible sound,in service said the problem is not overheating. Not a problem with memory or hard disk because I placed second correct parts. The same problem is with OSX 10.6.8 and 10.8.4 and other players.Apple hardware test found no problem and tech tool pro found no fault.
After five days of testing in the service they can not  found fault and it was decided to change the graphics card.
New graphics have been tested for two days but it is not reproduced divx ... but their test software which did not find any fault on the old graphics...
Do I have the right to complain if repair does not fix the problem because I use non apple softwere and video formats.

You could look at the System Profile for the info it presents for the card.  But why wouldn't you think it's not up to date if you have the latest install (according to your sig above)?
What program are you trying to run?  Is there anything in the system log?
I think it's the program that's having the problem and not anything with your video software.

  • Problems with pricing in Internet Order screen(CRM E-Commerce 5.0)

    Good afternoon !
We are using CRM 5.0 with CRM E-Commerce 5.0, and we are experiencing problems with pricing in the order screen.
When we create an order and insert one item at this order, this item is processed and the price is calculated and shown correctly, both in the item and in the table of totals at the right corner(where is the Total Net Price, freight value, etc).
If we change the quantity of this item, or insert more one item(with the same or other product), the price turns to zero, both in the item(s) and in the table of totals mentioned above. Also, in the table of totals, the freight value remains being calculated, even in this cases when the prices is turned to zero.
What can be happening in this case ? What can I check to determine the cause and solve this problem ?
            Thank you in advance !

    Good afternoon !
This problem was solved adjusting some parameters of partner determination.

  • Problem with InDesign CC redrawing the screen too slow while using Zoom tool

Hello. I got a problem with InDesign CC redrawing the screen too slow while using Zoom tool. Sometimes it takes more than a secong to zoom in or out. However InDesign CS6, Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC works just fine. What could be the problem, videocard or something else? Below is my PC configuration: OS Windows 8 Pro (x64); processor Intel Core i7 2600k CPU 3,40GHz; video adapter NVIDIA GeForse GTS 450; monitor NEC PA271W (2560x1440).

Yes it’s a bug. The trick is to select the tool and then left click the photo information strip and hold for a few seconds until you see the windows bar at the top of the screen (not responding)
The lasso tool should then work normally.

  • Problems with iMac retina 5K (artifacts, glitches and etc.)

    Hello dear Apple.
I have bought new iMac with retina 5K display and I have found lot of problem with it. It was December 2014 when I got my first iMac. And after then I have found few real problems with it.
The first problem is I can't open high resolution image with standard Preview.app. I mean 'high resolution' - more then 30-40 megapixels. When I open them, I can see image, but only 2-3 seconds, and after that I see horizontal artifacts only. I can't open images, like this Rembrandt.jpg; Carpaccio.jpg; Holbein.jpg
The second problem, when I change resolution in to scaled mode (System Preferences/Display) for increase image on display. I found when select some area on background of desktop it has left some lines after itself. It is particularly unpleasant if you have plain colour desktop background. You can view, how does it look here.
The next problem with animation in different parts of interface, e.g. sometimes when I open Time Machine some parts of windows are freezing or appear some artifacts or glitches near borders of window. And I have the same situation, when I open Mission Control, or any Adobe app or other, or simply rename a files. I have found few discussions with problems like mine, but in the separate places
    5K iMac - bad GPUs?
    Graphic Problems with Retina iMac
    iMac 5K and indesign glitch
And after that I want to tell you that I have this problems on four (4) iMacs. It was really difficult to arrange four replace. I have lost a lot of time an spent a lot of nerves for discuss and resolve my problems with Apple support. Finally, they told me that they do not know about problems with iMacs, and they could offer give my money back. I glad to get my funds, but now in my country price for iMacs has doubled. And if they refund my money, I can buy half new iMac only.
I am sorry for my language and style, but I do not know what I should doing with that. And should I hope, that my problem resolve with OS X updates? Or it is hardware problem of the whole iMacs 5K...

Yes Ralph, absolutely correct, 4 times. Do you have the graphic card the same as me, or m290? Could I ask you check your iMac for few things, please?
For the first, can you enlarge scale in System preference/Display and install plain dark color desktop background. Are there any footprints after rectangular selection like in my video https://youtu.be/dBglFvjJx1Q?
And for the second, could you download this image https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/Rembrandt_Harmensz._van_Rijn _-_Nachtwacht_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg  and open in plain Preview.app, and zoom it? Are there any glitches?
    Thank forward.

  • Screen Problems with iMac G5 20" (iSight)

    Hello!
I had the same problem with my iMac G5 20" (iSight) as described by Bob North Apr. 18, 2006 at http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/imacg5/topic2276.html#apr25:
"""" I repair Apple products, and recently I've seen strange and erratic display problems with the G5 flat-panel (iSight) 17" and 20"...and I am very curious about the origin. The picture will display what I will call "plaid pixles". Upon boot, the dispaly appears normal, but within 5-10 minutes, either at desktop or in ASD, the normal display will "crash" to the "plaid" display. The desktop, or whatever, can still be distinguished in the background, but it is overwashed by the plaid patterns -- which do change slightly, and also cover the full space of the screen. I've seen different scenarios, 3 in 2 weeks, where the symptom is exhibited with no particular failure pattern -- both before and after repair. I've replaced the main logic on one occasion, with no fix...but the 2nd try replaced both display panel and inverter. The display issue was fixed, but the system exhibited lockups only when it reached the destop. Another repair the same issue was seen after replacing the 20" main logic, where the symptom was not present previous. Personal opinion of the late 2005 IMAC flat-panels, in the hardware sense, is the likelihood of component manufacture issues, possibly the main logic boards or the panel displays themselves. Repair of this model, as opposed to the earlier, non-iSight flat-panel 17 and 20" models are extremely difficult -- access to main componenets is blocked by the display panel, which must be removed for each troubleshooting attempt. The internal hardware design is not oriented for repair ease...they are by far the most difficult to work on.
Any input regarding the display issues? Thanks.""""
I can't use the mouse or anything else, and after a while the fans start to go on max. This is the second time I encounter this problem within 30 days. What I have noticed is that the day before, the brightness of the screen started to "blink" slightly -- like if the screen tried to adjust itself.
But I haven't experienced what Bob North describes as the: "Upon boot, the dispaly appears normal, but within 5-10 minutes, either at desktop or in ASD, the normal display will "crash" to the "plaid" display".
I just restart with the power button and everything is working OK. I made an Extended Hardware test without any problems detected.
I have been looking for this issue with iMac G5 20" (iSight) and only found it at http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/imacg5/topic2276.html#apr25 :

Does it look anything like this?

My nearly 3 year old Titanium PowerBook G4 just did this one day, out of the blue. The problem went away after a few minutes, but I had already taken photos. Thanks to those photos, Apple gave the powerbook a new logic board.
(This PowerBook has had its logic board replaced twice, a new optical drive, and a cracked case edge replaced. AppleCare has more than paid for itself. Despite the occasional problems, I remain very happy with this machine. I'm sure I'd be much less happy if I had not bought AppleCare!)

  • Problems with flashing images top of screen in CS4

    Hi there: I'm running Photoshop CS4 on an iMac 27 inch - Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 / Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 / Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB / OS X 10.8.2.
Ever since buying the Mac I've had problems with what I can only describe as flashing, bitmap images around the main image but not within it. This problem mostly occurs at the top of the screen (in the 'Rulers' area)
but occassionally happens to the left and right of the image too. I've reached the limits of my 'tech' expertise and trashed the Preferences a couple of times but I still have the problem.
I found one similar problem on the forums but not the same as it was all over the screen and required a complete reboot; I only need to quit Photoshop or ignore it - although it is very distracting!
Their problem was the video card, could this be the same? Very grateful if anyone can shed light.

    willspring,
Just to make sure: As I understand it, things worked in CS4, not only in earlier versions.
To reset settings in Illy, you may Move the folder, but it may not solve the issue (the simpler but less thorough resetting being to Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup).
Have you made any changes, such as printer driver or whatever, between success and failure?

  • MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 Problems with iMac 27" Late 2009 TDM

    Hi,
I just got problems with my iMac 27" Late 2009 (Mini-DisplayPort) and my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 (Thunderbolt).
When I try to use my iMac as external monitor for my MacBook, there are massive glitches and graphical bugs on my second screen.
I bought a MDP-to-MDP wire from Belkin which works perfect on other computers.
    I tried these things:
    - Disconnected MagSafe from MacBook + unplugged all USB devices + switched graphics to discrete.
    - Shut down all computers ... then booted MBP, iMac and triggered CMD+F2
    - SMC, PRAM reset on both devices
    The cable works, because:
17" MacBook Pro Late 2011 works perfectly on my iMac screen with my Belkin wire!
I connected my MacBook Pro 15" to a 27" Cinema Display and it works flawless.
After that I plugged it out and tested it again with my iMac screen -> suddenly it works.
Retriggering CMD+F2 or replugging breaks it again with massive bugs.
The MacBook Pro 17" is on 10.7.2, 15" is on 10.7.3, but I also tried to trigger dual screen in 10.7.0 setup with the same issue.
Maybe its a problem with the internal 6750M of my MacBook Pro 15"?
The 6770M of the 17" is working well.
    Sample Video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_pgc52syes
All updates/firmware updates of iMac and MacBook Pro are installed.
    Any solutions?
    Greets,
    Kai

  • Reboot problems with iMac dual intel 1.83 OS 10.4.6

Needing help. Mac user since 1999 but I'm feeling like a novice with this. Wife was playing Sims 2 when it locked up and wouldn't allow the game to be turned off. Did a forced restart, disk went to the grey screen with the spinning gear for an extended period. Went to bed and the next morning the blue screen was on with OS X label as if computer was booting successfully but the hard drive sounded as if it was stuck in a loop. Got the installation disc and figured out how to eject the game and install the disc. Did safe boot and computer will goto the grey screen with the spinning gear and then will turn itself off.
Tried to reinstall OS X 10.4.4 while archiving in a separate folder and after verifying the disc the install fails. Ran hardware check came back o.k. Tried to boot from install disc and it just takes me back to the install disc start-up. Ran disc utility to repair premissions and it hung up after 30 minutes and the hard drive sounded like it was stuck in a loop. Ran disc utility to repair hard drive, first checks came back o.k. and then stated it was not completed due to an underlying issue when it tried to back out.
The hard drive is partitioned from boot camp, deleted windoze and tried to install OS X on the 20 gigs partitioned. The disc again verified but then failed- which threw me for a loop (does not appear dirty or scratched). My intention was to boot up on the partition and then try to retrieve pictures and videos on the hard disc, unfortunately only 1/2 is currently backed up.
I have not tried fsck yet because I was confused how to get to it, I think I am supposed to use the start up disc and go to the terminal application then enter the command, is this correct?
Unfortunately I am having to type this at work while the computer is at home- so if there are suggestions please dump them on me and I will try all of them tonight. No broken folders, kernal panics or exclamation points thus far.
    Thanks for all the help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
When you verified with disk utility the disk, you basically ran fsck. Permissions are another factor here, but the fact it failed the disk check suggest major directory problems with the hard disk. Unfortunately the only third party directory repair utilities that I know work well currently are for PowerPC Macs only. If you have another Mac, suggest putting the iMac in target disk mode and see if it is seen by the other Mac. The target disk mode is described by this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
If it is, then you can recover your data.
If it is not, my suggestion is to get an external Firewire hard drive, and Prosoft Data Rescue and see if it is able to recover the information to it.
http://www.macsales.com/ sells equivalent Firewire hard drives for good prices, and http://www.prosofteng.com/ is where to get Data Rescue.
In addition, there may be suggestions people in the Boot Camp forum can offer:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1165
My suggestion is to find a way to completely and safely remove Boot Camp and only use it on non-production machines.
I don't think your problem is an online networking issue, which I see you posted in that forum.

  • Massive problem with iMac i5

Today I bought a new i5 iMac with 8Gig of ram. I had massive problems with the instillation of Lion. I spoke with Apple for nearly 1.5 hours. I finally got it working and now it has crashed 9 times in 30 minutes. Why?? Please Help. I am going to take it back to the shop tomorrow.

    Thanks fro your quick reply.
I get the slow darkened screen that moves down the until it says that I have to hold down the poer button for a forced restart.
I tried opening all the really big memory hogs ll at once, eg Final cut pro, apature, imove HD etc, and that was no problem. It seem sto be completly random.

It was a 4 Gig ram imac, but the store made it up to 8 gig with 4x2 gig before I collected it.

  • Problem with my mac freezing and screen glitching?

I have the 2013 15 inch retina Macbook Pro and I have been having a problem with it lately. Whenever I use safari, my browser is freezing constantly. Its is only when I use safari, not any other applications, such as Microsoft word. Normally, I wouldn't consider this a big issue, but it gets worse. When I don't navigate on my computer and let it rest for a minute or so (while running safari and sometimes other applications) this screen pops up:
I have not dropped my computer, nor done anything to cause any damage to it. It hasn't moved from my desk and I am clueless as to what the problem could be.

    Hi patrickk9,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If you are continuing to see this type of display distortion on your MacBook, I would suggest working through the troubleshooting steps outlined in the attached article.

  • Many problems with Imac

I've had my iMac for a little over a year and now I am having problems with programs not opening, but then not being able to close. the arrow is under them but no matter how many times I force quit it won't close. Happens mainly with Toast and Itunes. Also, sometimes the computer will go to sleep and I can't get it to wake up. when this happens the fan just goes crazy. I have reset permissions and verified permissions. I have run the OSX disk with hardware utility and everything checks out fine. Will I have to reformat or just not use it anymore?

    Jason -
    Sometimes zapping the P-RAM helps:
    1. After the startup tone, hold down <cmd><opt><r> until 3 additional startup tones are heard, then release the 4 keys.
Sometimes doing the Open Firmware resets helps:
    1. After the startup tone hold down <cmd><opt><O><F> until a text screen appears (that's the letter Oh, not the number zero).
    2. When you can start typing, enter the following commands, following each command by pressing <return>.
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
The mac will start normally at this point.
If still not successful, try this as well:
After the startup tone, hold down the <shift> key until you (hopefully) reach the desktop. This start is called "Safe Start" and it will be longer than normal, because Disk Utility's "repair" is invisibly run; it also will bypass any login items. If the system gets to the desktop OK this time but stalls when the shift key is NOT held down, the problem may be some login item that will need to be removed, using the Accounts panel of System Preferences and its Login Items section.
If none of these suggestions work, you may be required to perform an Archive and Install re-installation of the Mac OS. This is one of the options presented by the OS installer when you run it, and it preserves all your settings, data and added programs, but puts a new copy of the OS on the hard drive from which to boot.
Please let us know how you make out,
    Miriam
