Problems with "imported" photos in iPhoto

The default on my version of iPhoto (V. 8.1.2) seems ot have been just import links.  But I really would prefer to have the photos actually imported into theiPhoto library, so when I upgrade (both iPhoto andmy computer) I can just take the library, and not worry about the links being broken.
Is there some way I can do this, without having to re-create the whole library?
Thanks

Set iPhoto to be a managed Library and then
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

When we import photos to iphoto it looks right and the events is updated, but when we reopen iphoto, the photos are not there and the events count is back to what it was before the import.... any suggestions to solve this, from anyone.... we have used iphoto for a year without problems

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • The problem with copying photos from iPhoto...

Good day! I have a problem. After the system upgrade to Mac OS X(version 10.7.1) iPhoto(version 9.1.5) program was absolutely not perform adequately. I do a lot and often edit the photos using iPhoto, and then copy the finished photos on removable media. After the procedure, Copy - Paste is that the images recorded on a media without correction. Please understand this situation, so how to use iPhoto with this error then I can not.

File is saved in JPEG, but the photo was not taken into iPhoto adjustments.
Here is the file in iPhoto
So I export the selected photo

  • Problem with importing photos to MBP: The new event shows up at the beginning of Events rather than at the end

When I imported photos on my older Mac computers G4 and G5), the new event would show up as the last event in EVENTS. With my new MBP, the new event shows up consistently at the beginning of EVENTS (actually as the second event), and it is a big inconvenience to have to drag it to the end (through some 500 events). How can I change this? Thank you for your help!

If you have the sort set to manual then you must manually sort the events as you choose - there is no "sort manually the way I am thinking" setting - manual is manual - and for what ever reason with the current version of iphoto second from the top is where events start for you to then manually put where you want
BTW - events are a poor choice for organizing photos and extremely inflexible (as you are seeing) - albums and folder are much more powerful and flexible and are the better way to organize photos

  • Problem with imported photos color/exposure

    Hello group,
Have been working on a video of our vacation and am having a strange problem importing photos. When I import the photo, it looks as it should. When I add the ken burns effect, once it renders the color seems washed out and the exposure looks lighter. If I import them without the KB effect they are fine. I am using three sets of photos from three different digital cameras, all doing the same thing. This is using the Aperture library. Any ideas? It almost is acting like I have some sort of global adjustment set, but I can't find any such thing. I have been using the edit pane/Video FX/Adjust colors/brightness and adjusting them back with that, but this is way too time consuming. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oh I forgot to add, when I click on the photo settings in the timeline and it shows the preview pane, it looks correct then as well. I have also tried hitting the full screen play button and they show faded in that mode as well. Hope this makes sense!
    Thanks,
    John

    hey there Bastropguy,
i know this may sound wacky, but have you actually burned any of your projects to DVD & watched them on a TV from a set-top DVD player? many times what looks wrong or poor on your Mac looks fine once you burn to disc in iDVD. KB effect is a bit of a hog, using a lot of processing power to do its job so that's possibly the reason for the images looking poor on your Mac. p suggest you finish this project as a half & half for comparison & see how the images you've tweaked look vs. the untweaked.
    good luck.

  • LR 3.6: Problem with importing photos (system disk filled up).

Hi, I'm new here and in start I would like to apologize for my English. It's not very good.
I have a problem with the program Lightroom 3.6 (in 3.5 was the same)
When I import photos from disk into Lightroom, my system drive is filling up drastically.
Windows & applications (LR too) are in C (60GB OCZ SSD drive)
Catalouge is on drive D - different drive (HDD)
RAW cache is located on frive G - different drive (HDD)
When I view the photos to select the files I want to import my C drive is filled up by file:
    C:\Users\Gimmickz\AppData\Local\Temp\cr_sdk_023324  10.tmp
When I restart lightroom, the space is cleared.
I saw that many people had a similar problem (they concerned the same file: cr_sdk_XXXXXXXX.tmp) , but occurred when exporting resized images.
I've a problem with the choice of images to then work on them. Usually I select 20-30, added to the catalog and then resets Lightroom to select the next images.
This is very annoying when I have to select hundreds of images.
If a solution to this problem was already on the forum, please do not delete my topic (cost me a lot of effort to describe my problem in English) - Just give a link to the solution, or write it again - plain English as possible. alternatively, please contact: [email protected]
It is very important to me - I can not fully work on this software - please help.

    Hi Hal!
Thank you so, so much for your reply!
    Thats make sense.
Today I'm away from home, but tomorrow I'll check it, but I think this will solve my problem and I will be able to work comfortably.
However, such large temp files should not be normal... you confirm? (temp file after viewed a few (20-50) photos can be more than 10 GB.)
Best regards and again - thank you Hal!

  • IPhoto version 9.4.1 problem with imported photos from camera card reader

My wife imported a lot of photos from a camera card reader.  The  imports show up fine when she launches iPhoto, but when you double click on one, nothing happens.  It doesn't go to full size.  It just doesn't respond for any of the pictures imported.  The rest of her pictures behave normally....when clicked on they enlarge just not the ones recently imported.  I did a repair disk permissions and no luck there.  What can we do to these pictures to make them behave normally when selected and double clicked?

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • Problems with importing pictures from iPhoto to iMovie (green substitute)

When importing from iPhoto, some fotos remain GREEN, although they are correctly displayed in the import area of iMovie.
    How can Isolve this problem?

But this iPhoto Library came from somewhere else? Right? From another machine? So, how did those photos get into that iPhoto Library? Did you import one Library to another? I ask as this is one of the ways you could find yourself working with thumbnails and not the actual images.

  • Problems with certain photos in iPhoto library

I have several photos in my iPhoto library that when you double-click them to get a bigger view (not fullscreen), there is a giant exclamation point instead of the actual photo. See example here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/gdavidson79/Picture1-1.png
What's going on here? Subsequently, when trying to add any of these photos to a MobileMe gallery, they are constantly in a pending state and will not upload.

The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that fails
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Problems with edited photos in iPhoto

Hi all, today I imported some photos from my iPhone into iPhoto. After I cropped the photo and tried to open it, it became black with a grey exclamation. (see photo) If I reverted the photo back to original it worked all well. I could not export the edited photo either..
Old photos which have been edited before today in iPhoto works just fine, but if I try to edit old photos, which are imported, the same thing happes. When I close the photo, the thumbnail is there of the original picture.
I hav tested to restart the machine and repaired disk permission without help. When I veryfy the disk it says the disk is OK.

  • I have problem with importing photos from my Nikon-camera...

... to iPhoto. For each photo I want to import I have to click on the cancel-button in a textbox who says that the file can not be detected and I have to reconnect to the server. Why??

This sometimes occurs if you’re importing a file into iPhoto and there’s already a file there with the same name. Digital cameras can produce many, many files with the same name over their lifetime, so it’s not uncommon to have several files called IMG_00543.JPG, for instance. Now you want to import one also called this.
What happens is that iPhoto compares the two files to check for duplicates. However, if iPhoto cannot find the file already in the database for comparison, then you get this message. It suggests that your database is damaged because iPhoto has lost track of this (or these) similarly named files.
A simple test is to rename the file you are importing - just add a character - IMG_00543a.JPG for instance. If this then imports with no issue then you might consider rebuilding your library:
Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function.

  • Is there a problem with importing photos from Photomatix into V4.4?

I just upgraded to V4.4.  When I import hdr pictures from Photomatix (stacked with the original) I get the #2 on one of the photos as I should.  However, when I try to expand the selectioon by clisking on #2 all I get is 1 of 2 or the #2, I cannot see the imported hdr picture.  I've even tried right clicking and expanding the stack but nothing seems to work.  This worked fine in V4.3 so it is a new problem.  I do a lot of landscape photography including panoramas and this is a real problem for me.  Hopefully there's a simple solution.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Problems with importing files from iPhoto to Aperture3?

I have just received my new iMac with Aperture3 pre-installed.
When I try to import the iPhoto Library (File - Import - iPhoto Library..) or try to import a single picture, the picture shows pixilated in Aperture3. When I try to import the iPhoto Library - Aperture shows one pixilated picture from the folder and then it works forever trying to get thumbnails for the rest.
    Nothing happens.
    What can I do?

  • Problem with imported photo resolution

When I import a photo either by email or application Briefcase import, the resolution is very poor. I have tried emailing or Briefcase-ing the photo either at original high resolution or a cropped 640 x 480 resolution, with the goal of using the photo as a wallpaper. When I look at it as an email attachment on my Touch, it looks great, but when I open it in the Photo application, it is VERY pixelated, looking like it was downsampled at 72dpi, or less. Is there something simple I am missing to save the higher resolution version that I see in the mail application to the Photo application so I can use it for wallpaper?
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Paul

Thanks, roaminggnome, touch is up to date, itunes is not up to date, as apple just released 8.1
I will install when at the computer I sync from later today and retry. I also haven't tried installing the photo by a cable sync, only by the pic received wirelessly...so I'll try that too.

  • Problems with organizing photos in IPhoto

I am organizing my Iphoto in preparation to move the albums to an external hard drive to make space on my laptop. I just finished deleting and re-arranging around 90 albums with 11,000 plus photos. I then realized that when I was deleting them out of the albums they were not deleting out of the Iphoto library.
I need to find a way to keep only the photos I want (which are already organized in the albums) without having to go back through the 17,000 photos in my library and re-deleting and re-arranging. I don't think that moving the albums to the external hard drive and then deleting them is an option because I found that there are photos in my library that somehow did not make it into an album. There are also photos in the Iphoto trash that I do not want trashed so I guess I will have to restore those to my library and go back through them.
I was hoping there was a way for Iphoto to automatically recognized which photos were already in albums and leave the rest in the library for me to look through and either delete or place in albums.
Any suggestions to make this process easier would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

What does that mean? You can't move "albums" outside of an iPhoto Library.
