Problems with importing to After Effects

Hi,
I can't get my Motion projects imported into After Effects. I have read the manual and done exactly as instructed. When i try to import my Motion project file into AE, I get an error message in AE saying: "files of type "mofo" are not supported. I have no idea where the "mofo" comes from, since the projects are .motn format.
I was wondering if anybody else has same kind of problems, with Motion and AE?
The Motion version I am using is 3.0.2 and After Effects is the CS3 version.

Yes this is a known problem and has been discussed a few times on this forum. It only started being the case with CS3 unfortunately. The only work around is to rename the Motion Project with a .mov on the end of the name, and import to After Effects. This works but means that the very handy feature of 'edit original' stops working, and i've also noticed a number of instabilities (crashes etc) introduced as a result.
We have to hope they'll (apple and adobe) fix this in a future update.

  • Production Premium CS6 syncing problem with premiere to after effects. "The importer reported a generic error."

I have CS6 Production Premium suite. I've had it and it works fine on my laptop for a couple years and just bought a new apple desktop and now when I have a project in premiere, it won't allow me to send it to After Effects. I keep getting a "The importer reported a generic error." Really need to get this problem resolved as the laptop is not as fast as it used to be, and I'm working on a short film haha.
Thank you for your time and help.
    All the best,

  • Sound problem with exporting from After Effects

    Hello everybody,
I exported a windows media video from premiere cs5 (it was shot with the cannon 7d).
The video has 1 video channel, 1 audio channel that contains a conversation, and another audio channel that contains only music.
After I exported it, I imported the video into After Effects cs5, I added some effects, and then I exported it as a windows media video.
    The audio settings were:
    Mode- music
codec- windows meida audio voice 9
audio format- 20kbps, 22.05 khz, mono
Even though the video from Premiere was flawless, the one from After Effects contains the conversation perfectly, but the music is very low and even erratic.
    Did anybody experienced this problem?

AE doesn't deal with multiple channels. It always assumes that a file with 2 channels is stereo. You need to export the audio from Premiere separately or create a proper stereo mix, not throw two interleaved mono channels at AE...

Mac requirements are v10.7.4 or later >  Adobe After Effects CC for Mac tech specs
If your Mac is running v10.6 as noted in your profile, you need to upgrade at the least to v10.7 Lion to run After Effects.

  • Problems with lighting in After Effects CC using Mavericks

I recently upgraded to Mavericks this week and installed the Adobe patch so that AE CC will work properly. I am having issues in a comp where I have an ambient light placed in the comp with no keyframes throughout the comp. As I scrub through the timeline, the light suddenly shuts off at a specific point in the timeline. When I render the comp into a .mov file, the light is definately shut down at that point with no keyframe.
In addition, I have added a spotlight to a different comp, moved the start and end of the light to the place I need it. When I scrub through the timeline, the light is coming on about 5 seconds in advance of where I directed it to come on. When I go to a point before the the light is initiated via a keyframe, and the light is on, I click on the "eye" to disable the light and it does shut off. Neither of these were issues in AE CC before Mavericks as far as I am aware.
Can anyone confirm that they have had a similar issue or is there a known fix yet! Thanks to all of the engineers at Adobe for your amazing assistance!

There MUST be a simple answer to this problem....
There is a simple answer indeed.
    Here it is:
The highlighted button in the Comp panel enables Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) Correction.
So, instead of stretching the footage horizontally, you create a Composition with the same frame aspect and Pixel Aspect Ratio as your source footage (just drag the clip to the New Comp button in the project panel and AE will automate this) and then enable PAR correction and After Effects will give you a corrected (deanamorphized) preview so you won't see it squeezed at all on a computer monitor. When you export it, it will look squeezed until you take it to the target video application. Any professional video application will handle this correctly.Millions of people do this every day, since non-square pixels are still dominant among the most popular video formats.
Even Photoshop has had support for non-square pixels (and PAR correction in the document panel) since CS (ie. Photoshop 8.0).
Note that when you turn on PAR correction (just like when you use odd magnification levels) AE switches to a draft filtering mode, which makes type and other elements look a bit jagged. Don't worry, it's just a preview.
The ideal solution, and the one video professionals rely on, is adding video output hardware to your computer, so you can connect a professional video monitor. After Effects can provide a live preview using such a set-up.
For more information on PAR, see Pixel aspect ratio and frame aspect ratio in After Effects Help.

  • Problems with anamorphic in after effects...HELP!

I've just been given the job of designing a title sequence. The problem is that it's been shot in anamorphic. My question is how do I design a title sequence when I have been given the footage in anamorphic which I have to stretch out to fit the 1920x1080 project composition settings, design the titles and then pop it back to fit the original format for export? All my design work will go to waste as the final sequence will consist of bunched up text and obviously look terrible. There MUST be a simple answer to this problem....

  • Problems with Tutorials for After Effects CS5

I just recently downloaded After Effects CS5. I got the whole creative suite from being an IU student. I was watching the video tutorials for After Effects and when discussing importing files they talk about exercise files. I've looked all over and I can't find these files. Does anyone know how I can get them or where they're located? I'm running windows 7.

Mylenium may be right about which assets the tutorials were referring to, but I have no idea what tutorials you're talking about. We can't know what exercise files you're referring to if you don't telling us what tutorials you're talking about. There are many thousands of tutorials about After Effects, on dozens or hundreds of websites.
The best people to ask about the location of exercise files are the people who made the specific tutorials.
Keep in mind that a lot of tutorial makers (like Lynda.com) put some of heir tutorials online for free, and they sell subscriptions to the rest. Part of the subscription benefit is that you get access to the exercise files.

  • Problem with 'Import Asset' after SuperDrive replacement

Hello. My SuperDrive was dead earlier this year and I replaced it last month. Ever since, I have been having trouble doing 'Import Asset' on DVD Studio Pro. Whenever I try to import a QuickTime(.mov) file, a message of "Incompatible Format" will pop up thus stop me from importing anything.
Could someone help me with this please? Any ways to fix it? Thank you.

    Dear David,
Thank you for answering my question. Would you suggest me to reinstall DVDSP? I installed everything as a chunk with my Final Cut Studio discs. Can I reinstall it individually?
My DVDSP worked fine until my Superdrive crashed earlier this January. It has been like that ever since, even after the drive was fixed. I can burn DVD directly without DVDSP. I am sure DVDSP can burn DVD too, but I don't know what happened and now the "import asset" function won't work anymore. I don't know what to do.

  • Best export format for importing into After Effects or even back into Premiere

Please look at this video, work in progress.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49_wbdKALQk
The opening, featuring a ribbon of videos, was created in After Effects, using Digieffects Freeform.
The  issue is the poor quality of the videos that are featured in the  opening -- compared to the high quality of videos from the original Premiere  project., which you can see at the end of the clip.
To create the After Effects project, I exported a series of video clips from Premiere  to mp4.
Then I imported them into AfterEffects.
The bottom line, and the purpose of this question, is I am thinking that  MP4 was not the best choice for the Adobe Premiere export.
What  is the best format to export video from in Premiere Pro CS5 to import  into after effects, or to import into any other editing program,  incuding importing right back into Adobe Premiere, if that is eever  needed.
    AVI?
    MOV
    MP4
And any other settings that will result with the highest qualiity videos for importing.
    Thanks

Okay, here's where I stand at this point regarding exporting and/or dynamic linking between AfterEffects and Premiere.
I'm in After Effects.  I create a composition I like.  So I first tried the old fashioned way. I exported it into a MOV file with the animation preset. Millions of colors.  Same frame rate as my Premiere project, which also uses MOV files with no problem.
Howver when I import the MOV file created by After effects, the NEW MOV file section of the premier project plays sluggish.  And it also causes the videos that follow to play sluggish.   And they are all MOV files at the same frame rate.
The same thing happens when I do a dynamic link between the two projects.  A sluggish response starting with the After Effects dynamic link and affecting the MOV video files that follow.
It's a very short After Effects composition.  About 3 second slong.
I have a very powerful computer built especially for CS5 and premiere --so that should not be an issue -- recently was in the top ten of the benchmark list.
Up to this point my video files have played perfectly layer upon layer with no problems.
Is there something I am not considering?
    Thanks.

  • Illustrator Import to After Effects

    Hey all,
Its been a while since i ever had a problem with importing things, in fact its never been a problem until now, and no-one seems to know whats wrong.
+ i'll post links to images as well to fully show whats wrong.
    Problem:
Im working on a project where i animate a character made in illustrator and then importing it to after effects. I made the character fine in after effects see here:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/nethstar/My_o_Fine.jpg
Then after saving it and importing it into after effects, some of the layers seem to want to move layer order or change shape, as seen here:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/nethstar/My_o_Bad.jpg
(As you can see the arm has gotten smaller, and the hand in the back is not layer behind the leg as it was in illustrator)
Im not sure what else to mention apart from, i've worked illustrator for the whole thing, there are around 57 layers and it is quite a complex layout but i managed to make everything work that wat previously with another project but for some reason this time it wont change. Ive also tried chnging the save settings many times but not really made any difference.
Im using CS3 versions of both Illustrator and AE.
If anyone could help i would be highly greatful.
    Thanks in adance.
P.S: It works when i use a photoshop file but not with illustrator, but i find it less time consuming to work with an illustrator file in case ineed to make adjustments with the the character. ALSO i found that layer order does not stay when importing from illustrator. eg - Layer 1, 5, 2, 3, 6, 4, ordering in illustrator will come out layers 1,2,3,4,5,6...and its REALLY fustrating because tutorials seem to do it with ease.

Re: layer order: You may have some invisible stuff inbetween which could throw AE off track. Removing those invisible elements may improve matters. Also check your layer naming. Give your layers respective names to enforce correct ordering. Short of that - could be a bug, could be not. I'm doing not enough work with AI to gauge this.
Re: changes in size: This may hinge on the use of compound paths and clipping masks. There are a few known issues with this, some of which have been addressed in the 8.0.2 update, but not all of them. I'm afraid only CS4 will fully resolve the matter, so in the meantime you will probably have to find different ways to deal with it. One thing you can attempt is to disable the "Preview" option for at least one of your critical layers. This will enforce a different treatment of the file and AE will re-calculate the bounding boxes instead of using the info stored in the file for the preview.

  • Problems with importing text messages from PC Suit...

Problems with importing text messages from PC Suit 7.1.18.0 to my Nokia 5800
I am trying to import a csv file that contains text messages (Note that this file was created using PC Suit 7.1.18.0) to a subfolder that I have created to My Folders but PC Suits only imports the text messages to the Draft folder. Note that initially it shows that the messages are import in the correct folder but after a refresh it shows them in the Draft Folder. Is their any setting that I should change in the PC Suit or the phone? My computer runs on Windows XP Service Pack 3 and the Nokia 5800 was upgraded to the latest firmware v20.0.012
     Thanks for your help

Most phones only allows importing of draft and archived box for SMS.
To do a restoring, you need to backup the SMS as a .nbu file using PC Suite and restore later.
If you got an SD card, you can also do a backup on the SD Card (backup.arc) then restore later (reset and restore: backup.arc and mmc).
What's the law of the jungle?

Doublechecking, roy. After making the preferences change, are you leaving the General tab by clicking the OK button down the bottom-right-hand corner of the tab?
