Problems with installation of Windows 8.1 with Arch Linux GPT

Hi everyone, I have Arch Linux installed in EFI MODE with a GPT Partitioned disk. I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 on a partition, but the message that i get is "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style". How I can solve this? Thank you for reading me.
Giuseppe

The output is
Number Start End Size File system Name Flags
1 1049kB 106MB 105MB fat32 EFI system partition boot, esp
2 106MB 1050MB 944MB ntfs Basic data partition hidden, diag

6 168GB 201GB 32.8GB ext4 home
7 201GB 479GB 277GB ntfs Basic data partition msftdata
The partition in which i'd want to install Windows is the number 3.
I had windows before arch, then i installed arch having both on my computer. Only lately i have deleted windows, but i need it now so i'm trying to install it again...

  • Problems with installation on Windows XP Pro with SP1

Hi! I've two problems during installation.
I try to install Oracle 10g Enterprise
    First:
    Checking Network Configuration requirements ...
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Not executed <<<<
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.
    Second:
    Checking service pack requirements ...
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Not executed <<<<
OUI-15038: Unable to execute rule 'CheckServicePack' from ruleset 'ServicePackChecks'. The underlying test 'oracle.sysman.oip.oipc.oipcz.OipczServicePackChecks.checkServicePack' has thrown an unhandled exception [For input string: "Pac"]. If the exception results in a failure of the test and the exception needs to be propagated, then encapsulate the exception in the result object and return the result.
Recommendation: Install the recommended Service Pack.
    What I should to do?

    Hey Guys,
I am Srinivas Here who had been trying to install Oracle Database 10G on Windows X86 on Windows XP Professional.
If you have Win-XP Professional as your Operating System. Do not download the oracle Database using windows - XP Professional because XP will block certain installation files while downloading. In your machine install Windows 2000 or any other Windows version as a dual boot. First the download Database Zip files using your other version of Windows Operating system and then when you Unzip the files it will create a folder called Database and all the files will be present in it.If you want to store the same to cd for having to install the 10G Rel 2 database through CD then copy the contents of the unzipped database folder and store only the contents of the database folder and write them to CD's. Please see to it that while writing on cd's do not copy the folder itself .
After this, restart the system and get into windows XP Professional (Your XP Professional should be with Service Pack 2 in order to install 10G Database on windows XP - The Basic requirements for Oracle Database 10G on Windows X86).
I request you to check the software and hardware requirements from oracle Documents before you install the Oracle Database 10G on Windows x86 as well as Oracle Database 10G on Linux X86 or any other operating systems.
Finally, After you run the Oracle Universal installer in the last you will get messages for all products installed Success and finally it will ask the password for DBA and open the password management and give the password and reenter password and on the left you will have to unlock the items you would like to use.
In the last it will give you various URL links for Isqlplus, DBA, Enterprise Manager and a log report stored into oracle directory stored in your C:\Program files\Oracle folders. The correct link will be given at the end and you will have to watch the installation carefully. You can find DBCA and other options working. Try login in to Oracle through Command prompt, Sqlplus prompt availabe in Start ->Programs->Orahome10G->application Development-sqlplus as well as login through isqlplus link- Before this you should login at the command prompt as SYSDBA. YOU CAN SEE THAT YOUR DATABASE IS NOW WORKING IN WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL.
THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL FORUM MEMBERS WHO GAVE ME IDEA AND SUPPORT

When checking components of ECC system I did not found 'WEBCUIF' component whereas in xml file (generated by SOLMAN) it exists. Which direction I should take. I am afraid to delete entries in xml file.
You need to download and install all requirements as selected by Solution Manager for EHP4, WEBCUIF is a required component. Do not delete any entries in the xml file.

I have MB MSI-975X PLATINUM v.1 withbios ver 1.3,processor Pentium D940 (3,2GHz/800/2x2MB),2X512MB DDR-2 667MHz,in the beginning when I start the installation on WINDOWS VISTA  the computer is bloked od it is restart. This problem I solved when I put another processor INTEL 541(3,2GHz/800/1MB) whit this processor everthing is ok,but with INTEL 940 it can not be install WINDOWS VISTA .
I’m asking you for a new superstructure on bios update .

Beta 2 or RC1 candidate???? RC1 should support..........
Beta 2 is real, slow and you have alot of updates to DL, but both are pre-release products and will not work 100%.
Even when Vista is released, they will still be alot of hardware that will not work 100% and this is purely because software is always playing catch up to hardware.
It was only September, when Nvidia released some Beta2/RC1 drivers that worked properly........

    Hello Manjunath.
This looks like a configuration problem.
Please check if IP_NETWORK is set to the name of your network adapter and
if your IP_ADDRESS and IP_SUBNET are set to the correct values.
    Note:
    - IP_ADDRESS is a new IP address that is not used by any machine in the network.
    - IP_NETWORK is optional
If you still get the same error debug your db2mscs.exe-call:
See the answer from  Adam Wilson:
Can you run the following and check the output:
    db2mscs -f <path>\db2mscs.cfg -d <path>\debug.txt
I suspect you may see the following error in the debug.txt:
    Create_IP_Resource fnc_errcode 5045
If you see the fnc_errcode 5045
In that case, error 5045 which is a windows error, means
ERROR_CLUSTER_NETWORK_NOT_FOUND. This error is occuring because windows
couldn't find the "public network" as indicated by IP_NETWORK.
Windows couldn't find the MSCS network called "public network". The
IP_NETWORK parameter must be set to an MSCS Network., so running the
Cluster Admin GUI and expanding the Cluster Configuration->Network to
view all MSCS networks that were available and if "public network" was
    one of them.
However, the parameter IP_NETWORK is optional and you could be commented
out. In that case the first MSCS network detected by the system was used.
    Best regards,
    Hinnerk Gildhoff

  • Dual boot Windows 7 (64) and Arch Linux (64) problems

    Hello:
I am new to Arch Linux and just finished installing the 64bit on my laptop. It had a prebuilt Windows 7 (64) installed which I kept but split the hdd from 160Gb to 80Gb and 80Gb. I installed Arch there and set 4 partitions, all of them as Logical - a 64 MB ext2 /boot partition; a 512 MB swap partition; a 15 GB root partition; and the rest as my /home partition. My partitions look like this:
    Disk Drive: /dev/sda
    Size: 160041885696 bytes, 160.0 GB
Heads: 255 Sectors per Track: 63 Cylinders: 19457
Name Flags Part Type FS Type [Label] Size (MB)
    sda1 Primary Unknown (27) 12889.02
    sda2 Boot Primary NTFS 106.93
    sda3 Primary NTFS [] 73915.11*
    sda5 Logical Linux ext2 65.81*
    sda6 Logical Linux 509.97*
    sda7 Logical Linux ext2 15002.92*
    sda8 Logical Linux ext2 57549.55*
The install was succesful(this was running from the core install cd) and I installed GRUB to my /boot but when I restarted it loaded Windows 7. I have used Knoppix USB disc to boot and see my Arch Linux install files and edited the /boot/gur/menu.lst file.
In Windows I installed EasyBCD 1.7.2 and tried to get NeoGrub bootloader working as a dual boot. I tried getting rid of the boot flag for Windows with cfdisk and setting it to my (Logical) sda5. That did not work. So far the only way I have booted into my Arch Linux install has been by going to the Live CD, choosing "Boot from Existing Linux Install" and editing the command files there.
    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro
    initrd /kernel26.img
My goal is to get a dual boot working for Windows 7 and Arch Linux 64 and continue installing the Xorg and KDE to Arch. I just don't know what the problem is here. I don't mind reinstalling Arch if something went wrong, but I would like to keep my Windows running in order and add Arch on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ran the LiveCD and chose "Install to MBR hd0". I ended up with this:
    setup hd(0,1)
    Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists.....yes
    Checking if "/boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5" exists.....yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5 (hd0,1)".....failed(this is not fatal)
Running "embed /boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5 (hd16)".....failed(this is not fatal)
    Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0,1) /boot/grub/stage2 p (hd0,1) boot/grub/menu.lst".....failed
Error 31: File is not sector aligned
My entry for Windows into the menu.lst looks like this:
    # (0) Arch Linux x64
    title Arch Linux x64
    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/3841273c-d91e-41d6-9dbf-716a15d03a01 ro

  • Troubles with HP OfficeJet 6500 E710n-z on Arch Linux

Recently, I have tried to use my printer after five months break. It used to run smoothly on Arch Linux with hplip. However, now, I have not managed to make it print properly with hplip again. This is my configuration, as seen from the CUPS web interface:
Driver: HP Officejet 6500 e710n-z hpijs, 3.12.11 (color, 2-sided printing)
        Connection: hp:/net/Officejet_6500_E710n-z?ip=192.168.1.4
After trying to print some test page, the jobs listing in the CUPS web interface showed me a error message "Filter failed". I deleted my .cups and .hplip directories in my home folder and reinstalled cups and hplip. The same symptoms appeared again after restarting and a fresh installation.
HP_Officejet_6500_E710n-z-400     Unknown     Withheld     98k     Unknown     pending since Sat 05 Jan 2013 04:22:46 PM CET     "Filter failed"
My Arch system is up-to-date. I heard that it might have become necessary to install the hplip-plugin somewhen in the last month for some HP printer models. If I understand the table at the bottom of http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/mo … 10n-z.html correctly, then the hplip-plugin is neither required nor available for my printer model. I tested also installing it from AUR, just because it was worth a try (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hplip-plugin/), but this made matters worse, having my printer to madly produce almost-empty paper with some crap characters at each page top. As expected, the hplip-plugin was a dead-end, and I uninstalled it to continue some experimentation with printing test pages (all on the same page, mind the trees!). Resuming the printer, CUPS prints
***** Unable to open the initial device, quitting.
Looking at the number of hits on Google, this seems to be one of the favourite error messages. I looked at the output in /var/cups/error_log

Indeed, some errors show up. I find it strange that ghostscript is called with a parameter -sDeviceModel="HP Color LaserJet 2600n" -dDuplex=true even though I clearly have an inkjet printer and no laser printer – and also specified the correct printer model. Also later, I can see the two lines
    D [05/Jan/2013:16:39:10 +0100] [Job 407] prnt/hpijs/hpijs.cpp 269: unable to set device=HP Color LaserJet 2600n, err=48

which to the best of my knowledge indicates some internal mess. Raising the debug level in cups.conf did not tell me anything new.
Notably, using the hpcups driver at least makes the printer print pages properly, but the wonderful (mind the trees) duplex-mode seems to only be available when using hpijs when selecting the PPD file in the add printer wizard. That is why I want to stay with the driver mentioned above.
The trouble for me is that the printing pipeline is so complex and so many components are involved that I have no real good starting point to where exactly post bug reports. I would appreciate if some fellows with the same printer and the same errors could confirm my description. Or even point out how to get that organism to paint ink properly on the paper. Any ideas where to start? Or references to better resources regarding the combo of HP OfficeJet 6500 E710n-z and Arch? Is it just an regression bug and will be fixed? Is my system corrupted in some way? There is lots of open questions I don't quite feel able to answer all by myself. Any hints for troubleshooting appreciated!
    Edit:
After some more reading and troubleshooting, I have filed the following two bug reports at hplip:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1096418

    SCAN ISSUE SOLVED!!!!
I have an HP Photosmart 6500a Plus printer that is connected via USB to a less than 1 year old Dell XPS 8300 tower running Win 7 64bit Home Premium Edition.  The print function worked fine but scans would halt mid-way through the scan and eventually the software would indicate that it had lost connection with the scanner.
After EXTENSIVE testing, I determined that the problem was with the Dell tower and NOT THE PRINTER.  I hooked the printer up to a Dell Inspiron mni-tower running Vista and had NO PROBLEM scanning.  I hooked the printer up to a Gateway laptop running Win 7 Pro and had NO PROBLEM scanning.
On a hunch, I inserted a POWERED USB hub in between the Dell XPS 8300 tower and the HP Photosmart 6500a Plus and was rewarded with a, first time ever on the XPS 8300, complete and flawless scan.
I surmise that the HP Photosmart 6500a Plus was not getting the required voltage from the USB on the Dell XPS 8300 tower and that was causing the scan to fail.
    WOOHOO!
Been chasing this one for several months...

  • Trouble with a wired connection on my fresh Arch Linux Install

I am a new Arch Linux user. I used to use Ubuntu exclusively, but I'm to the point where I can no longer stand a lot of the issues with the new development and Canonical. Anyways....
I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop with an RTL8110SC (Module R8169) Ethernet port. (Pardon me if my terminology is wrong; please correct me if it is so I can learn? ) During the install process with the CD that I made, I had no issues connecting to the Internet. However, whenever I boot into my install, there is no connection. I've tried pinging various web pages and nothing will happen. I know that my hardware is compatible, but I do not know what to do next. I've tried everything under the Wiki's Beginner's Guide and the Network Configuration Guide.
I just realised after I wrote this top portion that it no longer is connecting via CD, either. Pinging is giving me errors about no packets being received.
Please help me with this matter? I would love to start using Arch Linux!

Ping is a very basic command that is fundamental to debugging networks at the lowest levels.

What we can tell so far..
    You have an Ethernet Interface.
    You have an Ethernet Address.
You cannot look up domain names (bad)
We are trying to see if you can see other computers if you know their address.  This will tell us if it is a DNS or a routing problem

  • Recovering earlier installed Windows 7 after installing Arch Linux

I'm trying to boot windows on my ASUS notebook.
There was windows 7 from the very beginning (disks C:\ and D:\), then I divided disk D:\ on several partitions and installed Arch Linux. I overwrited Windows boot information by boot part of Linux. Now I want to recover windows, that I still have on hard drive. It doesn's matter what there will be: dualboot or only windows (but dualboot is prefered).
    Disk info:
    [jhon@fckrsns ~]$ sudo fdisk -l
    Disk /dev/sda: 698.7 GiB, 750156374016 bytes, 1465149168 sectors

I tried to recover MBR with different ways:
    with syslinux:
    [jhon@fckrsns /]$ sudo dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/bios/mbr.bin of=/dev/sda
    0+1 records in
    0+1 records out
    440 bytes (440 B) copied, 0.0226394 s, 19.4 kB/s
    with ms-sys:
    [jhon@fckrsns /]$ sudo ms-sys --partition /dev/sda1
Start sector 2048 (nr of hidden sectors) successfully written to /dev/sda1
Physical disk drive id 0x80 (C:) successfully written to /dev/sda1
Number of heads (255) successfully written to /dev/sda1
    [jhon@fckrsns /]$ sudo ms-sys --mbr7 /dev/sda
Windows 7 master boot record successfully written to /dev/sda
But there is still no way to boot windows.
I run grub-mkconfig before and after these manipulations with MBR:
    [jhon@fckrsns ~]$ sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    Generating grub configuration file ...
    Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-linux
    Found initrd image: /boot/initramfs-linux.img
    Found fallback initramfs image: /boot/initramfs-linux-fallback.img
    No volume groups found
    done
    [jhon@fckrsns /]$ sudo os-prober
/dev/cdrom: open failed: No medium found
    No volume groups found
I installed rEFInd, now I have two choices on boot screen: vmlinuz-linux, which it founded, and my earlier installed grub bootloader.
Maybe I missed something, but i don't know what exactly.

Now I know that I don't need MBR at all (but google told me that recovering windows = recovering MBR..)
Are there any ways to recover boot information on EFI system partition from Linux without using Windows Live CD and it's bootrec.exe?
I have bootmgr and bootmgfw.efi files on /dev/sda3 (partition with windows installed), what else I need? Simple copy of bootmgfw.efi to /boot/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi and addition of custom menu item to /etc/grub.d/40_custom does'nt work. There is Windows now in rEFInd and GRUB menus, but there is error on loading.

  • Resize Windows XP to install Arch Linux

I boot archlive and when I go into Cdisk to setup the partitions, Windows Controls the ENTIRE partition on the Hard drive.. How can I resize it so I can install Arch Linux onto the system?

    Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeefinitely. (Emphasis on the "Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeefinitely")
If you're not careful, it's very easy to lose data from Windows partitions due to fragmentation.
Not to discourage or anything. Just be careful.

  • Problem on installation of windows 2003 Standard Ed. 64 bit with 10 GB RAM

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the Oracle 10G R2 on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition 64 bit on HP machine 64 bit.
My problem is that the Oracle is seeing just 4GB of RAM.
I found some Oracle notes that explain this problem for machine and OS with 32 bit.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Sergio

    Are you installing Oracle 32-bit?
(In that case, the process virtual memory addressing is limited to 2^32 = 4GB. Note also it is virtual, not physical memory)
64-bit editions (e.g. for X64) are available from:

  • MOVED: MSI 975X PROBLEM WITH INSTALLATION ON WINDOWS VISTA

This topic has been moved to Vista problems.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=101708.0

Beta 2 or RC1 candidate???? RC1 should support..........
Beta 2 is real, slow and you have alot of updates to DL, but both are pre-release products and will not work 100%.
Even when Vista is released, they will still be alot of hardware that will not work 100% and this is purely because software is always playing catch up to hardware.
It was only September, when Nvidia released some Beta2/RC1 drivers that worked properly........
