Problems with installing OS on new HDD.

Hi Everyone,
I have been reading around the forums to see if I could find an answer to my problem. But I have only found bits and pieces and I would like a confirmed answer if possible.
I am new to the Apple world and I have very little experience in Apple software and so my apologies for any mistakes or my lack of knowledge.
I have been given a PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz with a faulty HDD and a collection of CD’s / DVD’s. I have just replaced the HDD with a 320GB WD Scorpio Blue WD3200BEVE and now I am trying to install the OS on the PB G4. This HDD is not formatted and is fresh from the supplier.
The discs I have been given:
Apple Hardware Test: SW Version 1.2.2 (PowerBook G4)
PowerBook G4 - Mac OS 9 Install: 9.2.2
PowerBook G4 - Mac OS X Install: 10.1.4
PowerBook G4 - Applications: 1.1
PowerBook G4 - Software Restore 1,2 & 3: Mac OS Version: 10.1.4, 9.2.2
Airport Express: 4.0
I have tried the OS 9 & X Disc whilst pressing C on boot and the PB only displays a icon with a face / ?.
I have also tried booting up with the option key and I only have a sceen with 2 buttons a circular arrow and a (->).
The only disc I could get to show up on this screen was the AHT disc and this would only display an error such as not compatible with hardware / system.
Could someone please explain to me if I am doing something wrong or if you can see any other problems.
Many thanks,
Dan

Hi,
Wow never heard of this problem before... Ok, do you hear any clicking noises in this hard drive? First of all, is the HDD new? If no, I suspect it might be faulty.. if its new, there could be some kind of firmware issue preventing it from being used on the mac..
Another test I would do.. try loading Tiger's cd and see if you can format the drive from there.. AH WAIT A MINUTE... How old is your G4 Powerbook? By the way I see it your powerbook might have a drive limitation of 128GB and lower.. thats most likely the issue. I noticed your install disks have 10.1.4 - THIS IS PUMA and I believe your powerbook precedes those powerbooks which have large drive support.. In this case, you will need intech's hi-cap tool in order to format and use the drive.
Powermac G4's and powerbooks before I think 2003 don't support large drive 48-bit LBA, so this could be the problem. Do you have the original hard drive which came with that? Use that as a test to prove my theory.. if the start up menu sees the drive, then the problem is that your G4 powerbook does NOT support large drive capacities greater than 128GB.
In order for you to use that drive, you WILL need Intech's hi-cap tool and I am not sure if they still make it.

  • Problem with install on new compy, something to do with external?

Hello, so I have been having a few problems with installing Arch on my new computer. On my old laptop I never ran into this problem on any distro of LINUX I installed, nor on any other of the systems I have installed Arch on. I believe it might have something to do with the fact that I am running the live cd off of an external dvd drive maybe? I am kind of stuck here, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Problems with installing new programs

    Dear all,
since the update to OS X Yosemite, I have some problems with installing new programs.
I tried to install the Fitbit App to connect my Fitbit to my Mac but the program can't be started after installation. I have the same problem with Blackberry Blend, too. I am able to install it but it doesn't start running.
Does anybody have an idea what's the problem?
    Thank You,
    Lisa.

Did you receive any errors during the installation itself or does this happen when you try to open Photoshop?

    Thanks,
    Sinisa.

    Hi Sinisa,
    It almost sounds like this bug;
    CSCtn81201
Incorrect "Hardware Configuration Error" due to hardware setup errors
    Symptom:
Refresh upgrade stops with IMM device detection, and then server being reported as unsupported
    Conditions:
in-band USB interface was disabled, which is configurable via IBM system X or IMM (browser) interfaces.
    Workaround:
change the in-band usb interface settings to enabled.

  • Severe problem with installing and starting Audio-DVD Pla

    Hi,
after installing the new drivers (SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000.exe) for my Audigy2ZS in XP SP3 i had np mic boost and the mixer did not show the mic as an selectable source. So i rolled back to my old drivers and after that i have problems with installing and starting the Audio DVD Player. I tried so far: uninstalling everything like its said solution ID 72, checking HD for corrupted files and i did a repair installation of XP. Nothing helped. When i only install the drivers and the DVD Audio Player from the original CD everything is fine until the reboot adter installation. When the OS tries to start the "chkcolor.exe" the PC instantly reboots. When preventing XP from doing so, there is no reboot, but as soon i want to start the DVD Audio Player a reboot occurs again. When i try to uninstall the DVD Audio Player before unstillaing the drivers, the is also a reboot. First uninstalling the drivers and then the DVD Audio Player, there is no reboot.
    Any ideas?
Best regards and thank in advance,

  • Problem With PSE-2 and New 1.5 TB Drive

Hi all. First of all, I've been using my registered PSE-2 for several years with no problem. AMD Athalon 7750 dual core at 2.7 Ghz, 2.0 G Memory. WD 1.5 TB primary and WD 500 GB secondary drive.Win XP SP3. I recently had a drive fail and installed a new freshly formatted WD 1.5 TB as my boot drive. Fresh install of WinXP and updates. Now when I install Elements, it appears to install fine. The problem comes when I attempt to start it the first time I get "Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the scratch discs are full". Then Elements closes, thus not allowing me to do anything with the internal configuration of the program. I have tried unistalling and installing to the 500 GB drive, but still get the same error. I have increased my page file memory Does anyone know of a problem with installing Elements on a large drive or can anyone offer a possible solution to what I am seeing? Thanks in advance for suggestions...
    JohnR.

I think Barbara meant photoshop 7, which was out a little before pse2.
If you hold down the Alt+Ctrl keys just after you start pse2, a dialog
should appear allowing you to choose the scratch disk (keep holding
the keys until the dialog appears)
If you have a recovery partition on your hard drive, try choosing this for
the scratch disk and then exit pse2. Then restart pse2 and from
Preferences>Plug-ins and Scratch Disks choose your regular hard drive for the scratch disk.
Newer versions of pse, at least newer than 3 or 4 don't seem to have this problem.

  • Problem with installing Photoshop elements 9 and adobe support advisor

Hi, I've received a graphic tablet with 2 programs: the first has been downloaded and works perfectly while the second, PSE9, has been giving me problems for at least a week!
I downloaded it and now I have a winzip file full of strange things (one of this is set up exe which tells me that I have to install adobe support advisor) and two files which said 3DF.tmp and PSEP9(1).zip.download and if I try to click them they tell me that I have to find on the Net the program to open them because I can't. And I don't know which program is required.
I tried a lot of times to download the adobe support advisor, I have enough space on my disc and my farewall is deactivated, but when the program begins I saw this annoyant message
cpsid_82829s5 Missing installation file bootstrapper error occured
with this code for a support from adobe 00-67325-032018052012
I unistalled it and retried, but nothing.
Please, I just want to use my tablet with the programs which are comprised in the package, why it's so difficult to download this damn photoshop elements 9????????????
    Thank you

In the error message it doesn't tell me
"Installer has detected that a machine restart is pending. It is recommended that you quit the installer, restart try again,"
neither "Installer failed to initialize. File not found. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem."
and I have enough space and I have Windows xp then I should be able to install it. I tried to unistall and install again the support advisor but nothing. I'm desperate.

anyone else having problems with popups since the new security upgrade? can't get rid of them

You may have inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it. It ought not to be related to any Apple security update.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

  • Am interested in Mountain Lion but would like to install in a new hdd.

Purchased new 1tb hdd. I am interested in Mountain Lion but would like to install in the new hdd. How to do that without media?

Download Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store, and when the installer runs choose the desired hard drive or partition on which to install it. Be sure the target volume is first formatted with a GUID partition scheme and with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the filesystem format (this can be done with Disk Utility).
The volume can be an external or internal drive, and a primary or secondary partition on either.

  • Problems with installing CS5 extended

Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a new computer and had no problems with installing Lightroom but installing photoshop CS5 is proving to be a real pain. At first it refused to install itself and after many hours of trying it finally did but then I found out I needed to update camera raw so I downloaded that but that one now is refusing to install itself. At first it told me the Applications manager needed to be updated so I did that and still it refuses to install itself. I have tried to get help from Adobe but not a single person is responding to my requests for help so I am now trying the forums so does anyone know what is going on with it?
    Thanks!

Do a search on adobe's site for the specs of cs5 and make sure your system will support it. Also see if your OS is listed as being supported. It is possible that cs5 is too old for your system.
For  now all we can do is guess. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

  • Problems with installing Win 2000 on MS6380

    Hello,
I have a problem with installing Win 2000 SP 2 on a PC assembled with a MS 6380 (Kt 266 pro) mainboard.
The setup starts but the system blocks just after the boot, when showing the message "Detecting Hardware configuration" .
    The configuration is the following:
    Athlon TB 800
    MS 6380
    128 MB DDR
    Matrox G200
20 Gb Quantum Fireball CX HDD
    Intel Ethernet card 100 pro + S
I tried to update the Bios to the latest version (1.90) and set the most conservative settings on the RAM timings. I have disabled ACPI, too.
Could someone please help me with solving this problem?
    Thanks

You have format the BootCamp partition during the Windows installation, since OSX can only do a preformat using FAT32 (MS-DOS) and Windows 7 needs NTFS as file system.
See page 7 of the BootCamp Installation Guidehttp://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

    Hello all !
    I have a problem with installing arch-0.7.
When i am booting from CD, it starts to load kernel and so on, but it always restarts.

If there is anyone, who could help me out, give me a hint or something, i would really appreciate it. I am new to linux, and while browsing different distros, i found this one. And, it seems really good, so i decided to try it out, to see if it "does my work".

  • Problem with installing and uninstalling applicati...

    hi all,
I have a problem with installing or uninstalling apps on 808. When i try to install an application through Nokia suite or when trying to run the application file from the phone's memory the screen freezes and becomes unresponsive but the 3 phone buttons work just fine. I have to shut down the phone and the screen becomes responsive again. Anything available to help me wiith this situations as I cannot use any of the apps I have. Any help much appreciated.
    Regards
    Alex

You are not alone. Im also having the same issue because we do alot of install and uninstall apps. This is the bad point of symbian. But I tired to install the latest FP2 it will be slightly abit smoother now. So you have the latest version now but did you tired to restore any backup yet? It might be the setting on when you restore that affect it. The feezing should be shorten on FP2 but it will still remain there depending on the type of apps from what I experience.
I hope they will provide multiple function to uninstall apps since it will go through a long process to uninstall apps 1 by 1.
Reason is because some apps will go through process like preparing install, process install, finalising install which take away your control for that few seconds or a minute instead runnning in background mode. Its not convenient to uninstall more apps.

I have problems with installing Elements, it gives my an unknown mistake - I already have CS4 up and running, could this be the case?

Chances are not very good that pse 4 will run on os x 10 6.8 unless you were upgrading from an earlier mac version that already had pse 4 installed.
