Problems with Iphone 3G after OS4 install...

Was super excited about the OS4 release, so I updated iTunes, and installed OS4 to my iphone. Since the backup was taking forever (6hrs), I just left it overnight. This morning when I picked it up, there was a message on my computer screen that an error occurred. I took the iphone, and see that the system now says 4, and I have the camera app, but not the multi-tasking function.
Any thoughts on what is going on? How can I fix it?

when trying to install os4 on my ihpone 3G, the back up sticks at about 10%, stays like that for hours & eventually i give up & turn it off, if i back up normally, it takes about 20mins.

  • Reception / Battery problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1

There are major reception and battery problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1.
I can not believe that Apple did not test this for major bugs like this one is.
I am a business user and can not effort to have bad reception. Apple wants to gain in the business clients... I never had this with my former BlackBerrys!
I need a reliable phone not a play thing like this is right now, it just needs it to work propely. And if a major bug like this comes along, fix it immediately. After the iPhone4 story, now this...incredible! Going back to my reliable BlackBerry! It just ain't reliable and takes forever to fix a problem.

I have the same issue after iOS 4.2.1 update. I am using iPhone 3GS officially unlocked by Apple. I tried using different SIM cards and both carriers show same problem when using phone in 3G mode. Phone falls back to EDGE mode showing 'E' from '3G' at start. I have reset the phone and rebooted several times and moved to different cell areas in the city just to verify the problem.
I had no such issues earlier. I also have Nokia E71 which shows full signal and has no such issues.
I have posted the bug on apple iphone feedback page. I hope they Apple will fix the problem and test the release properly on all models before releasing to public.

    Hi srikka,
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with the iOS 8 upgrade on your iPhone 5s; I know how frustrating that can be, especially on a device you use every day like a smartphone. • Problems with Norton antivirus after Tiger install

I installed Tiger yesterday and it all went well. After the install however, on every restart or when turning on the computer I get this error message:
Norton AntiVirus Error. Norton AntiVirus Auto Protect could not continue. Please reinstall Norton AntiVirus and restart.
Of course, I did the reinstall for Norton but continue to get the error message. Any assistance is appreciated.

There's no question that the exploit is serious, but it is a very narrow exploit, only involves specially-crafted RAR files, and there's both a completely adequate workaround and a virus definition to flag potentially compromised RAR files.
Given that, there's no reason to uninstall NAV: simply implement the workaround, download the latest virus defs, and stay away from RAR files for a bit. I expect we'll see a patch shortly.
The hysteria that this problem has generated from some, as well as some of the responses — uninstall NAV, throw out NAV, etc. — is wholly unfounded given the workaround and available virus def.
There have been Mac OS X exploits announced for which an Apple-provide fix took a couple of days to publish. Given the response to this Symantec issue, I'm surprised some didn't advocate uninstalling Mac OS X at those times.
As you point out, there are those who exchange documents with Windows systems, employ macro-enabled documents, etc. Uninstalling NAV vs. using the available workaround opens them up to a wider range of threats. Doing so simply makes no sense — i.e. is "nonsense" in the dictionary definition sense of that word — given that the available workaround and virus definition address the RAR exploit until a patch is published. That's not disparaging: that's fact.
Why waste the time or expose one's self to other potential threats when the workaround and virus def are available and the patch is forthcoming? Uninstalling NAV vs. using the available workaround and virus definition is "throwing out the baby with the bath water."
The Symantec-bashing that has transpired in a variety of threads since this problem arose is also unwarranted. NAV is a good product. I've used it for years and recommend it. I have no financial relationship with Symantec: I simply like the product, use it, and I recommend what I use.
ClamXav and the underlying ClamAV engine are also good products and I recommend ClamXav for those who can't afford NAV or prefer an open source product. But the ClamAV engine has also had similar exploits found in its code, so it also has an imperfect track record.
As software complexity increases, finding all of the potential exploits in the design or testing phase is increasingly difficult. All software installations are a matter of trust as to if the developers did the best job they could to ensure a product free of defects, including security exposures.
    Good luck!

  • Problems on iphone 3G after the install of the the new OS4 & OS 4.0.1

    Dear All,
Please find below a list of problems that I now have with my iphone after updating to the new operating system.
    1) NO WIFI
    2) NO GPS
    3) BLACKED OUT PICTURES IN CAMERA ROLL AND PHOTOS
    4) VERY SLOW TO ANSWER CALLS
    5) PHONE IS VERY SLOW TO LOAD APPS
    6) BATTERY NOW IS DEAD AFTER 3PM AFTER A FULL CHARGE OVER NIGHT AND NO USAGE.
When I first got the iphone it really was amazing although the connectivity of the phone was not as good as my last phone it was still the best phone I have ever had. I was amazed at all the apps and how easy it was to use. It really was the best phone you could buy. There has been nothing wrong with my phone for over a year now and I have not had one complaint, until now. This new update has destroyed my phone. I had my car broken into and I had my TomTom stolen just as I got the phone. So to save money I installed a sat nav system to the iphone. This worked perfectly and I have been very happy with it as I use it for work all the time going to places that I have never been to before. This is now useless as the GPS no longer gets a signal. I will now have to get a TomTom as I have to have a sat nav for work and I have no idea when Apple will sort this out....if ever. I also go Geocaching and that uses the GPS as well, that is now on hold until works. For work I have to be in contact all the time and this is done through e-mail, updating apps, listening to the radio, watching video's and getting the weather is all done through my WIFI at home that I can no longer connect to unless I am sitting on the router. I then went to show some friends of mine some photo's that I had taken only to find that the photo's that I wanted where just black blocks.
I have always shouted about how good this phone is and that there is nothing that it can't do, if you need it to do something there will be an app for that, well is there an app for taking back to the old operating system???? I can't believe that Apple has done this! I am so close to going back to my old phone that is the Nokia N95... at least I can get WIFI and GPS with that. I am so disappointed with this phone right now it's to the point that that I'm embarrassed to get my iphone out in case someone asks me to show them something and it won't work. I never thought I would be making excuses for Apple.
I am now hearing all kinds of things about the Apple iphone 4 and that worries me as my contract is up for renewal in August, and I was going to get the new iphone 4 but now I think I might go back to Nokia or even blackberry.
Apple, this really is very poor work, this phone was a revolution and took the world by storm. I fear now that you have lost your edge in the market and are going to get a very bad reputation very quickly and Blackberry will just take over. Software must be tested fully before releasing it this is the same with the new phones. People would rather wait a year to get a phone that works and is right with no problems rather then get a phone that just more problems than it is worth. To me its sounding very much like Microsoft. This is their trick....send it out and let the public tell us what's wrong, then we will take ages trying to fix it.
Please can you look into this ASAP as I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who have the same problem as me and really want to get them sorted sooner rather than later, even if this means changing the phone back to the old operating system until you have this one sorted. At least the old one worked.
Also, an idea of how long it will be until this gets sorted would be great news, if it will only be a few weeks I'm sure I could sort something out but if I have no idea I will be forced into making a big change. As I say I will be upgrading my phone soon and I would like to stay with Apple and be a loyal customer but I fear if there is no feed back and this is not sorted I will be going to another phone.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW THAT APPLE IS TRYING THERE HARDEST TO FIX THE ASAP AND THAT THIS BLOG IS BEING TAKEN NOTICE OF.
many thanks for your time and effort in this matter, I hope to hear from your very soon.
    Ian Davis

You're in a mess because you installed two pieces of software that have not been released yet and are still in beta. If you were a registered developer(I'm guessing you're not) you'd have access to the developer forums to post your question. You're only solution is to wait until the software is OFFICIALLY released or use google & hope you don't end up making your phone permanently inoperable.

  • Problems with iPhone 4S after upgrade to ios7

I've upgraded to ios7 but have no longer got any folders or app icons? How can I get them back?

    Hello AndyYork,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like after updating, you are unable to find your apps and folders.
First I recommend searching your phone to see if the apps are installed:
Search iPhone. Drag down the middle of any Home screen to reveal the search field. Results occur as you type; to hide the keyboard and see more results on the screen, tap Search. Tap an item in the list to open it.
You can also use Spotlight Search to find and open apps.
    From: iPhone User Guide
              http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph3c511548
If you can find them with the search, I would recommend checking for additional home screens on the phone.
Swipe left or right to see other screens.

If you still cannot find the apps on the phone, you may have to restore from a backup you have either in iTunes or in iCloud.

  • Still having problems with insufficeint permissions - after clean install

I'm seeing this on multiple friends' computers, and now have it on mine.
An auto update fails with the error of insufficient permissions.  (I can't find how to post a screen shot of it.)
I read through several discussions, and ran the manual uninstaller, then checked for the files as denoted on the FAQ, and tried to run the installer after downloading it and still cannot get Flash Player installed due to insufficient permissions writing the files.
I am on Windows 7 64 bit(current patch level), IE(9.0.14), and have d/l the latest Adobe Flash Installer.
I know that at least 1 of my friends is on Windows 7 32 bit, IE, and whatever the latest Adobe Flash update is trying to install.
I am running on an Administer account while trying this.
When I was first asked for help I checked and know that my friend's account was Administration as well.  Last month I reran the flash installation file and used the "Run as Administrator" option from an administration account and the installed worked.  That did not fix the issue this time.  As stated above I have it on my system now and some other friends have it on theirs as well.
How can I fix the issue?  How can I make sure it doesn't come back when the next auto audate takes place?
    Edit addition:
An auto update kicked off and it failed too.  Here is the log at this point:

  • Reception problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1

AFter upgrading to 4.2.1, my 3GS iPhone is experiencing bad signal, bad quality and frequent disconnections.
This was repeated even after my provider replaced my device to a different 3GS device, running 4.2.1.
inserting my SIM card to a NOKIA phone, showed strong signal and good reception.
Did anyone experience reception problems on 3GS running 4.2.1??
    Thanks,

  • Charge have problem with iphone 5 after upgrade to IOS7

    Dear everyone,
I just upgrade to IOS 7 for my iphone 5,unfortunately is when i charge it ,a message displayed is accessory is suitable and % battery not up but down.I try a way as switch off is battery up again.
    How to solve this problem.
    Thanks a lot
    Son

    Hi
I cannot find it again, but I found a possible answer in another forum.
It is correect. Ios 7 has an option for auto app update.
The information is left on the screen to advise you which apps have been updated. Apparently they will clear after a week, only time will tell.
If I find the link I will repost.
One thing I noticed was that if you delete the app the update notice goes, only to return when you reinstall.......weird.
    Cheers
    Andy.

  • Problem with iPhone 5 after latest update

After updating to iOS 6.1.3, I find that my iPhone 5 speaker not functioning. No sound in music or video or any application needs the speaker. If someone faced this issue and solved it, please tell me what to do in this situation. Many Thanks in advance.

If he has actually Activan Locked it then only he can unlock it, either by providing you with the account ID and password, or by removing it from his list of devices (as he should have done before returning it) - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4515
If you are unable to get him to do this then I'm afraid you will not be able to use the device - there is no other way of unlocking it at all. Apple cannot unlock it for you.

    Cheers

Is she using a case that may be blocking or partially blocking the iPhone's proximity sensor?
If she is using a case, remove the case to see if the same occurs without the case.
If the same does not occur without the case, she needs to use a different case that is specifically designed for the 3G to take into account the iPhone's proximity sensor and light sensor.
If she isn't using a case, the standard troubleshooting steps in order are power the iPhone off, an iPhone reset, restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup, restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup.
