Problems with iPod Click Wheel

alright, about a week ago, the menu button on my iPod stopped working. So, to try and correct the problem, I restored my iPod using the iPod Updater. On the one hand, this did get my iPod's menu button to work, but now the click wheel isn't functioning. I've tried toggling the hold switch back and forth, as well as resetting it, but to no avail. What's odd is that sometimes the click wheel will work (in a very limited capacity...only like half of the wheel responded) for a few minutes...then it will stop. If anyone has any suggestions of advice, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Somebody, anyone, help please? If no one has an answer can someone point me into a direction where someone does? A tech support number or something?

  • Problem syncing iPod click wheel games to nano 3rd gen?

Hi, I've recently encountered a problem with syncing up my old nano with all of my click wheel games. I was hoping someone could help me, as I need to figure this issue out before Christmas. So, here's what's wrong:
I plug in my iPod to the computer, bring up iTunes, and set up all of the games I want to sync under the "games" tab. Once I click sync, it recognizes that the files are missing (I've tried to locate them, but to no avail; I think they've been deleted).
My problem; however, is this: I also have a 2nd gen iTouch. When apps for this iPod are corrupt or can't be located, all I have to do is find the app in the iTunes store, click "Buy" again, and it automatically downloads it for the second time, free of charge.
For the click wheel games; though, it seems that this tactic doesn't work. I tried going to the games section of the app store and tried to download the files again, for free, by clicking "Buy", but then it proceeds to tell me this: "You have already purchased this item. Would you like to buy it again? If you buy it again, you may have duplicate items. If you can't find it in your iTunes library, make sure it's been downloaded by selecting Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu."
And, by the way, I tried the advised method, too, which brought me: "All purchases have been downloaded for this account. You can burn a CD, DVD, or use shared folders on your local network to transfer them to another computer."
So, I'm at a loss. I don't want to buy all the games again, so if someone could please help me fix this problem, it'd be really appreciated.
    Thanks.

Im guessing the game isnt stated for ipod nano 5g so prob' no.
Sorry couldnt be of more help, unless you can find it in games and download it again for this generation ipod.

  • IPod Click Wheel games compatible with ipod nano 5th Generation

I've found the iPod Click Wheel Games by clicking the triangle that appears next to the "App Store" tab and clicking the third option, "iPod Click Wheel Games." But when I look at the details of any of the games it says they are compatible with:
"This game is compatible with iPod nano (3rd and 4th generation), iPod classic, and iPod (5th generation) only. It cannot be played on your computer, nor is it compatible with other iPod models or iPhone."
Does this mean that I cannot use them on my iPod nano 5th generation? or is the iPod nano being referred to as "iPod (5th generation)"
I guess it just seems silly that a game is only compatible with older versions or that the newest iPod nano can NOT operate older games.
Can anyone explain this? or has anyone tried to download one of these iPod Click Wheel Games and found that it actually Does work for an iPod nano 5th generation?

    Can anyone explain this?

  • HT1363 My ipod click wheel will not go into disk mode.  All I get is the red circle with the X in it

The only thing my ipod will do is display the red circle with the X in it.  I can not put it in disk mode, it won't work.  It's the 160 GB classic with the click wheel.  Is there anything else I can do to make it work again?

If you are unable to get the iPod into Disk Mode, the Hard Drive is likely damaged and beyond repair. You'll probably want to have it replaced either by Apple or a third party service center.

  • Can an older IPod (click wheel) be used with a wireless/bluetooth speaker? If so, how?

Can an older IPod (click wheel) be used with a wireless/bluetooth speaker? If so, how?

There is no doubt you can.
When you say photos stored on it.. in what form are these photos?? Is this your iphoto library?
If so using iphoto library on the TC has risks.. not necessarily viewing photos .. that should be fine. But if you have photos you are editing and wireless comms drop out leaving the library with a file open, it is likely to corrupt your library. Please check with the iphoto people on the discussion board if you want to go ahead for the dangers of using iphoto on any network drive.
The TC is not designed as a NAS .. in particular it cannot back itself up, nor can Time Machine backup the TC. So any files on the TC are at risk. If you manage to corrupt the iphoto library without a current backup... does that worry you??

  • I have an older Ipod with the clicker wheel. w

I have an older ipod with the clicker wheel.  Once I have imported a CD to iTunes, how do I get it to transfer to the iPod by Artist or Album instead of only each individual song?  When I import to my ipod and click on Artist or Album, it still shows the entire list of songs.  Thanks

A 15GB iPod would have to be a 3rd gen iPod.  It has a touch (not click) wheel with four touch buttons in a row that glow orange during use, correct?  That model needs to be connected using FireWire, because it cannot charge over USB.
If your new Mac has a Thunderbolt port, you can get an adapter for FireWire
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
plus an adapter for FireWire 800 to FireWire 400
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/FIR1369AD/
Another way, if you have the square white FireWire power adapter that came with your iPod, is to get a special docking cable that Apple used to sell a long time ago.  It has both USB and FireWire connectors.  Here's a listing for a third-party version on eBay
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Vanco-iPod-Dock-Connector-to-1-USB-1-FireWire-Cable-/2 71074766489?pt=US_MP3_Player_Chargers_Cradles&hash=item3f1d50ae99
(Search on "FireWire USB iPod docking cable" to see other listings.)
What you do with this thing is plug the USB connector to your Mac's USB port, the FireWire connector to the FireWire power adapter, and the dock connector to the iPod.  iPod can then sync over USB while getting power over FireWire.
I would go with that special cable, to avoid using a series of adapters (which adds complexity and unreliability) and tying up the valuable Thunderbolt port for just your iPod.

  • How Can I Recover Paid For iPod Click Wheel Games

Well, well, well.  It seems that Apple iTunes had really ****** me off today.  Here is what happened
Recovering iPod Classic Click Wheel Games
Here is my story and at the bottom are my Questions
The hard drive on my old computer crashed and I bought myself a new one.  When I finally decided to put more on music onto my iPod Classic something happened.  iTunes disabled without deleting my $300 worth of iPod Classic Click Wheel Games.  I've called and contacted them for support to no avail.  I believe I forgot to authorize my new computer before putting on my new music.
Just before Christmas I called Apple support asking questions & the man on the phone didn't have very good advice for me.  He said that maybe iTunes could replace the games for me.  So I started looking at iTunes for iPod Classic Click Wheel Games and they were no where to be found.  Apparently Apple had removed them from the store and yet they sell iPod classics.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/30/apple-removes-ipod-click-wheel-games-from-it unes/
After Christmas I tried again to contact them about my iPod Classic to try and have my $300 worth of click wheel games replaced.  While I waited on the phone for an hour while they played poor quality music into my ear giving me sever headache.  I was already frustrated as it is and when I got a hold of someone she I had trouble understanding her.  (I have poor hearing, had a headache and was frustrated)  She gave me advice to contact Apple about the iTunes store.  I called again and got a hold of someone who i could better understand.  He gave me a step by step information which was the same as the last person I had contacted.
Now I sent an email to iTunes store asking if i could get help
All the iPod Classic Click wheel games files were still on my iPod.  Now I needed some way of retrieving the files.  I made a that attempt at contacting apple and they told me that i Could "Check for Available Downloads".  Which was the very first thing I'd Tried.  But these are files which i believe apple only allowed One Download.  I could not get my files from Apple.
Now I sent them a 4th Very long message stating what happened and Asking for Answers for Four Questions.
The files are still on my iPod Classic & I would like to Please get some answers to My Questions Which I WANT You PLEASE to Help Me with.
The files are still on my iPod Classic & I would like to know.
    1) Is there a way for me to Re-Activate my 2.3gb of iPod Classic Games so that they will once again work?
    2) Is it possible to copy the games from my iPod onto my computer & How Can I Copy these iPod Classic Games from my iPod Back Onto my Computer?
    3) If I can find these files from somewhere else lets say one of my friends or Bit Torrent.  Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
    4) If I find a way to replace my games without Apple & iTunes help.  Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
After all I have already paid for the files.
I really want to Download these games back from Apple iTunes Or to re-activate my iPod classic games and copy them from my iPod back onto my computer.  It seems that this isn't possible.  If this isn't possible I Am Going to Be very Skeptical about ever getting a iPod Touch or iPhone.  I've already been telling a lot of people about my problem.
So Far Unfortunately for me Apple & iTunes has not been very much help.
Thank You for reading my message.  Please help me with the answers to the 4 Questions
The message which they sent back Has Made Me Angry.  I'm Not going on apple pay per incident Paying $35 for a phone call if they can't send me an email with answers to these four ******g questions.  So I suppose you can tell that right now I Am ****** Off.
Since I sent the first message I authorized my new computer which didn't re-activate me games.
Then I went onto Google searching "how to copy files from iPod to computer."
Which Led me to this website
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/
I downloaded a trial version of Touch Copy
Somehow I managed to re-activate my lost games and copy most of the files back onto my computer using "Touch Copy".
Then I downloaded the last 4 missing files from somewhere else but I'm not posting where i got them.
Now that I have fixed my problem without Apple's expensive help
I Really Want To Know the answers to questions # 3 & 4
    3) Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
    4) Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
After all I have already paid $300 for the files.
I Thank You For taking the time to read my message.
    PLEASE HELP ME

Transfer your purchases into an authorized library, recover other media from the device, restore the device.
    2) Is it possible to copy the games from my iPod onto my computer & How Can I Copy these iPod Classic Games from my iPod Back Onto my Computer?
Transfer your purchases into an authorized library
    3) If I can find these files from somewhere else lets say one of my friends or Bit Torrent.  Can I copy or download the files to Replace my $300 worth of games and put them back onto my iPod?
Not really. All ClickWheel games should be locked to the account used to purchase them. If your friend wished to authorize your library that would work. At the time of purchase you were told that you got only one (successful) download of the content after which it would be your responsibility to maintain backups.
    4) If I find a way to replace my games without Apple & iTunes help.  Will Apple iTunes let me put the games back onto my iPod without deleting them thinking that I have stolen something which i paid for?
It will be fine. If you transfer the games into your library they can then be copied to any compatible device where they will work. The key is that the library doing the transfer is authorized to the relevant account when you update the content.

  • IPod click wheel won't take any files

I have an iPod with a click wheel, and have had many problems with it. When I first got it I loaded my music on it from my Dell PC. I have had many problems since, and currently I cannot get it to retain any files transferred from my G5 iMac.
When I connect it via FireWire, it appears in iTunes and seems to update perfectly. However, when I eject and subsequently disconnect it, the first screen that appears is the one which asks you to selesct a language. When I try to access my music, there are no files on the iPod. Is this a problem with the internal hardware of the iPod or is there a software solution to this problem?
    20" iMac G5 Intel Core Duo, 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hello, Ryan, and welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I am sorry that you have had problems out of your iPod. This sounds to me, like the backup battery, or logic board is having problems. Since you disconnect it from the firewire cable (which is also its power source), the backup battery would kick in, the backup battery keeps information stored in a small memory module, called a bios chip. This memory module keeps up with information like, "My name is iPod, I love music., etc.". When the battery goes dead however, the memory does not keep the information, so when you start it up with the bios empty, it needs the information again, like "What is your Language, What time is it, etc." You could get the battery replaced at the Apple Store Genius bar, or send it into Apple. There are also some third-party vendors, but I like the original Apple parts.
    Hope this helps,
    Cory

  • Freezing iPod Click Wheel

I was using my iPod Click Wheel 20G almost a year with absolutely no problems. I was satisfied. Like a month ago I downloaded latest update from apple web. Since then my iPod freezes very often. It hasn't played continously more then 30 songs (sometimes much less). At the end of the song it just stops playing and all I can do is to reset it. I tried to restore it to the factory settings, use the software which was on included CD, use downloaded update ... but nothing works. Can anyone help?? Thanks.

    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.

  • ITunes 6 & iPod click wheel

    Hi all,
Is anyone having any problems with iTunes 6 & iPod click wheel. I got two iTunes gift cards for Christmas and I cannot buy music until I update my iTunes which is 4.01 to v 6.x. I was just wondering if anyone had nay issues with this update.
    Thanks
    G4 dual 1.25Ghz, FP 17   Mac OS X (10.3.5)

I've not had a single problem with updating to iTunes 6.0.1.
I use a 1st gen. 5 GB iPod (scroll wheel) and it works fine with the latest software.
I would recommend updating the system software first to 10.3.9 (your info says you use 10.3.5)
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I transfer the music content on my old IPOD (click wheel) to Itunes in my new computer for subsequent transfer to a new IPOD

How do I transfer music on my old IPOD( click wheel) to Itunes on my new computer(Windows 8) for further transfer to a new IPOD nano

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • 4 Questions RE:  iPod Click Wheel 40 GB (HP-Refurb)

    Hello All-
I just connected my 40 GB iPod Click Wheel (HP Refurb.) and am a newbie to the world of ipod. I am using iTunes 4.6 & Mac OS 10.3.5. (I haven't upgraded to iTunes 6 on purpose because I thought this older version would be better suited to my older iPod...)
My first reaction to the sound was not great -the sound in general was flat (not full range) and the volume was too low.
To test the sound, I imported the same song into the ipod in 3 formats: AIFF, Apple Lossless & MP3 (160 kbps). To my surprise, the AIFF sounded the worst! (it had low volume and a reduced frequency range (it sounded and very flat) Why, I have no idea-
That said, I have 4 questions for the forum:
    1) Is there anyway to boost the volume on my ipod? (it is not the European model, it is an HP Refurb.)
    2) Is there anyway the ipod can use the EQ settings assigned to a particular song in iTunes?
    3) Is there anyway the ipod can use volume settings assigned to a particular song in iTunes?
    4) Is there anyway to import my custom EQ settings (for a particular song or in general) into the ipod EQ menu?
In general, I want to improve the quality of the sound-
And specifically, I would like to be able to boost the volume and have more control over the EQ .
(iTunes has a fairly decent EQ, my fingers are crossed that there may some way to use some of those features in the ipod, --iTunes is so seamlessly integrated with iTunes in all other respects...)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance-
    tmp

    1) Is there anyway to boost the volume on my ipod?
(it is not the European model, it is an HP Refurb.)
You have tried turning the volume up, right? ALso, make sure sound check is not enabled. (Settings-->sound check-->off)
    2) Is there anyway the ipod can use the EQ settings
assigned to a particular song in iTunes?
Yes. You need to have any EQ enabled on your iPod (settings-->EQ-->pick one). When you play a song, the iPod will use the EQ you set in iTunes instead of the one set on the iPod. If the EQ is set to off on the iPod, no EQ will be used.
    3) Is there anyway the ipod can use volume settings
assigned to a particular song in iTunes?
It should be. Are you noticing any difference between songs with higher volumes set?
    4) Is there anyway to import my custom EQ settings
(for a particular song or in general) into the ipod
    EQ menu?
    No. I would...

I would also update iTunes and make sure the iPod's software is up to date...
