Problems with iTunes Cover Flow and Windows Vista

I just recently upgraded my computer to Windows Vista Home Premium (32-Bit). I preformed a clean install and every program I have tried so far (Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Age of Empires 3, Halo: Combat Evolved, Microsoft Office XP, etc.) have worked fine, however, iTunes is having some problems (7.4.1.2). First, cover flow does not work right. It can get it to run, but it is super slow. It ran very smoothly on Windows XP, now on Vista it skips every over album cover and is very choppy. It seems like it is running at 3 FPS. Also, none of my videos will play in Quictime or iTunes. The strange thing is I can play the same videos in VLC and GOM and they work great. I just went to nVidia's web site and installed the latest drivers and my games runs fine so I don't think it is a driver issue but I am not sure.
Any advice I would appreciate,
Thanks

Well - you're not alone. I've got a very high-end video card (nVidia 8600 GTS OC), and am running Windows Vista Ultimate. Every aspect of 3D acceleration works great with my machine (World of Warcraft, Battlefield 2142, Half Life 2, Counterstrike: Source, etc.), except iTunes/Quicktime. I pretty much have the same issues: videos (all - .mov, .mp4) play absolutely horribly in both applications, and cover flow is slow/choppy at best. I think it's an iTunes/Vista issue that Apple has yet to touch, so I'm just waiting for January (I'll buy my first mac, a macbook pro, then), because for the first time in my life, I'll have an installation of iTunes that functions properly. I love iTunes. Just not on Windows machines. It leaves something to be desired.

• Problems with IS-H*Med and "Windows Vista"

Hi all:
I'm having problems with automatic installation of IS-H*Med using a computer with Windows Vista. It doesn't start. I must to install it manually, and when the user request the OCX, it hangs up.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance and regards,
Alejandro Gómez.
P.D.: Excuse my bad English.

Hola Alejandro,
could you please elaborate on your problem a little bit in detail?
I suppose, you don't mean the SAP system itself, since as far as I know, it (the application server side) is not supporting Windows Vista at all.
According to this SAP note 66971 only SAPGUI 7.10 supports Windows Vista. Do you use this version of SAPGUI?
What does not start? SAPGUI? The planning grid?(Which is the only i.s.h.med specific OCX as far as I know).
Did you open a customer support message for this?
kind regards,

• Fieldpoint Hardware Drivers that are compatible with LV 8.5 and Windows Vista

I trying to develop in LabVIEW for some Fieldpoint hardware. I was going to download the hardware drivers from NI, but only see drivers that are compatible with Windows XP and LV 8.2
Or, am I just misinterpreting this?
Also, are there any potential conflicts with me developing on Vista, if my end-user, is uding another OS?

One should welcome adversity as an opportunity to excel.

Hi Daddy-O,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments. This is a little misleading, and unfortunately the driver you are looking for is currently not directly searchable. In order to use your FieldPoint hardware with LabVIEW 8.5 and Windows Vista, you will need the FieldPoint 6.0 driver. This can be found within the disk that is distributed with new FieldPoint hardware, and any Device Drivers CD from August 2007 forward. Unfortunately, a standalone installer is not available for this driver, and if you do not have a hard copy of the Device Drivers, you can download this here. From this installer, you should be able to select FieldPoint 6.0 and install this software.
I hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify. Have a great day!

• Problem using iTune Cover Flow display

Previously iTunes "Cover Flow" allowed me to view album convers.
Now it displays: "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer".
I am able to see album covers in "Album List" and "Grid" displays.
Any ideas?

After hours of frustrating experimentation, my partner appears to have found a workaround for this problem. If you have cover art not showing up at all, or showing up in the Cover Flow, but not when you turn your iPod Touch back vertically, this is what to do. If you view the info on a single file in iTunes, you'll notice the cover art sits in the middle of the screen in the Artwork view. What you need to do is create a blank 200x200 72 resolution image file (I don't think these paramaters must be exactly as noted, you just need a square, blank image file). Then add this blank image as a second image to the album that won't display its cover art. Afterward you should have the original artwork on the left half of the display and the blank part on the right. It won't work to just use the slider to get the original file to the left by sliding the slider one place to the left, because once you exit it just puts the picture back in the middle again. You have to add a blank image file. (In fact, the second image file doesn't even have to be blank, if you just want to use another album image file you have.) Once you have the artwork you want displayed fixed to the left half, everything works fine.

• Problems accessing iTunes Store on a Windows Vista PC

I'm connected to the internet on my PC and I can get to any website I want to. I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes through Firefox. But every time I try to connect to the iTunes Store within the application I continue to get a message iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The netwokr connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again. I do not have the Windows Firewall turned on and I'm using Webroot for virus protection and I have turned off it's firewall but it as not changed anything for me.

• Authorization Problems with iTunes 7.1 and Vista

I'm running Windows Vista Business edition. Any time I try to play a purchased song, I get prompted that "you've already got 5 computers authorized to play this", but when I check my actual account settings, it says I've only got 3 computers our of 5 authorized (which is correct). I've tried updating to the latest version of iTunes (7.1) and it didn't help. I tried to run the "fix the seurity permissions issue in Vista" application that Apple released and it doesn't even appear to run (gives me the EULA, I hit 'accept' and it just closes the window).
Iv'e checked all of the standard issues that I've seen bandied about. Yes, I'm using my administrator account (my only account on the machine is my admin acct.). I've tried right clicking and launching it as an admin (just in case..)...no change. Songs that I have purchased since upgrading to Vista work just fine and will play. Anything purchased before the upgrade WILL NOT WORK.
I'm just kind of frustrated as other people have mentioned as well. I've got many many songs that I cannot listen to at all due to this issue. Plus to be honest, I'm afraid to plug in my iPod to update it. I don't want it to "update" and then all of a sudden I can't even play the songs from the iPod either. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it as it is getting a bit tiring.
Thanks in advance.

Hey there - It sounds like you have songs from more than one account in your library.
When you try to play a song that needs to be authorized it'll have the account ID that it was purchased with listed in the pop-up window (where you enter your password).
This is the important part: Make sure that the account ID that the song asks you for is the ID that you login to the iTunes store with when you check how many authorizations you have left.
Hope this helps!

• Performance problems with iTunes 7.4.3.1 + Vista

I've got a really annoying problem since "upgrading" my PC to Vista Ultimate (actually it was a clean install).
Vista all working and performing fine. Download and install iTunes + import lib. When I went to use iTunes as soon as I open it it's already starting to struggle. It pauses a few times when opening then eventually is operable. I use the "Cover Flow View" when looking at my library and scrolling back/forward is nasty. Very sluggish and slow. Firing up a video is the same. It's very choppy.
After searching I've tried the tricks with disabling Direct3D etc. in Quicktime but not surprisingly it's made no difference.
One thing to note is that my soundcard (m-audio 24/96) is not yet supported and is disabled in device manager. Not happy about this but I figured I could still use itunes+ipod so not the end of the world (yet). I doubt this would cause this problem but you never know.
Additionally my itunes music folder is pointed at a share on my network. Always has been from day 1 on 100mbit and it worked fine and I'm now on a gigabit LAN. Again, I doubt this should make any difference.
PC vital stats are below. Hardly cutting edge any more I know but still more than capable.
P4 3ghz (sock 478 version)
2GB Ram
Nvidia 6800GT
Vista Ultimate
iTunes 7.4.3.1
5th gen iPod
I'm getting really irritated by this problem now
Any ideas?

Very strange. Yesterday all the problems magically disappeared! It's now working perfectly.
I loaded about 30GB of lossless tracks into the lib and did some seemingly unrelated windows updates yesterday but that's it. I guess there might have been something in one of the updates so we'll see how long before another one breaks it again.
It has nothing to do with windows, or any updates from microsoft. iTunes is coded by Apple, and poorly at that. Many suspect they do it on purpose because it is in their interest to trick the dumb minded public into thinking that a Mac is faster than a PC. Which isnt really possible since they run on the same hardware now.
There can be slight performance differences due to OS, but there is No way in **** that windows would ever slow down iTunes to its present state.
Windows Media Player is silky smooth and winamp is even smoother......
iTunes is horrible.
The features and tools are nice, the hardware it syncs to (ipod iphone etc) are all lovely... Its just too dam bad us Windows users get NO support from Apple what so ever.
Its payback for what Microsoft did with the windows media player on the mac. WMP was programmed like crap on the mac, and they eventually just stopped developing it for the mac. MS has no interest in Apple looking good, and Apple has no interest in windows looking good.
Its a dam shame too, because as they pull these BS games with each other, they ignore us users, who have paid our hard earned money for their products.

• ITunes 1.6 and Windows Vista 64bit Help

I have not been able to use iTunes properly since I got a new computer with Vista 64bit. I can play music, browse iTunes Store and watch Video, but the problem comes when I try to attach my iPod Touch or try burning a CD. With the last version, it seemed that 64bit windows Vista was not supported so I just decided to wait for an upgrade. I download iTunes 1.6 from Apple.com and try to install and it says I need the 64bit iTunes Installer. Did I miss the download for it?
This is the error message I get...
This iTunes Installer is intended for 32-bit versions of Windows. It is Highly recommended that you download and install the 64-bit iTunes Installer instead.
All I need is a Link to the 64-bit Installer because I cant find it.

What's supposed to happen is that when you go to the download page, http://www.apple.com/itunes/download, it's supposed to recognize that you're running 64 bit Vista and then you get the 64 bit iTunes installer. But I've seen reports that FireFox users are only getting the 32 bit installer page.
Can you try that link with IE? And do you get a different installer then?

• Need some help please, itunes 7.1 and Windows Vista

Hello,
I've got a bit of a problem here with itunes and my ipod nano.
Basically I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit and when I connect my ipod to my PC the found new hardware wizard pops up but can never find the ipod nano.
In disk management the ipod is showing up but in itunes its not.
Could anyone advise on this please?

A little update about this issue and it's good news. I've managed to get the ipod show up in disk management with the ipods name and when I open itunes and plug the ipod in, it pops up in itunes.
Heres it is just like it should be, a result!
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1293/untitled1ln0.jpg
Basically what I did to fix this issue in Windows Vista was the following
1.Click Start type run in the search bar and then msconfig.
2.Click on the Services tab and "hide all Microsoft Services".
3.Click Disable All for all the non Microsoft services that are showing.
4.Click OK
5.Click Restart.
6.When your desk top loads up click OK for the msconfig menu which pops up.
7.Open itunes and connect your ipod.
It should now show it does for me.
Now follow step 1 again and load all services as your pc would start normally again and reboot, again your ipod should show up now as it should.
I hope that's useful if anyone else experiences the same.

I had hoped that a multimillion company like apple most successful in this nich of the market would want to keep its customers and provide us with up to date valid software but NO..... 9moths later same problem!

1. Firstly a box appears with a sliding bar with " Please wait while windows configures iTunes "
2. When this finsihed another box appears " iTunes stopped working "
3. When u click OK (the only option) in the task bar on the bottom right a small bubble appears with the statment " Data execution prevention has closed iTunes "

Appart from throwing my iPod in the Thames and getting a samsung mp3 player, i dont see any solution... anyone have any ideas?
My Thanks in advance!

iTunes is a free program - it doesn't make good business sense for Apple to hire people to troubleshoot problems on Windows hardware - they'd have to hire hundreds, if not thousands to remote in to PCs and spend time fixing this kind of thing!
If you are getting that message about data execution prevention, you need to get DEP turned off, come **** or high water.
How about turning off UAC, can you even do that?
And with UAC turned off, can you disable DEP?
How to Disable UAC
Remember you can always turn these back on to keep your system "safe" - this is just a test to get iTunes working.

• ITunes 8.1 and Windows Vista...

I recently made the "upgrade" to Windows Vista, and iTunes 8.1, after getting my iPod repaired.
I'm having serious issues syncing my 30GB iPod video with iTunes.
I have gotten either a BSoD or and error reading "The iPod 'xx' cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found."
I've done some reading up and found that Vista has been having problems with the latest iTunes.
Is anyone else facing this problem, and can it be helped?
I'm seriously getting frustrated.

I am having the same problem. I have a brand new HP Pavillion laptop, about 24 hours now, and I cannot get itunes to show either my ipod or my iphone. When I plug in my ipod, it does show on the ipod that it is syncing, but nothing is showing up in itunes. My iphone shows nothing, not even that it is powering. I know the computer has something to do with it, as every time I plug in my phone, the computer says it has to download the driver, even if it just did five seconds ago. If anyone is having this problem, or has had it and can resolve it, please help.
Thank you.

• Problem with Itunes 9.1 on Windows 7

Hi all
Problem with the 9.1 version of itunes. I download the update and everything went ok and till i reboot the pc and gave me this messages. "Apple sync notifier "The program can't start corefundation.dll missing from this computer".
Trying to fix the problem i uninstall itunes, Quick, apple application device, apple mobile device, and software update and reboot the pc and reinstall everything. This time everything went right and no more message but now if i click to open itunes it not runs and safari is making my computer slow and it freeze for seconds.
Any idea what could be my problem?

Same problem here. Running the iTunes network diagnostic doesn't enlighten me: it tells me that connectivity to the iTunes store is fine. My firewall tells me that when iTunes starts it attempts to connect to "http://wpad/wpad.dat" which of course fails because the unqualified domain name gets my local domain added to it (and I don't have a host called ipad on my network).

• Syncing my ipod (itunes 7.1 and windows vista)

Everytime I try to sync my ipod it says that I do not have enough write access and to check the permissions on my music folder. I am the computer administrator of course on my own computer and I've made it so all my music files are shared and all permissions are allowed. However it still says the same thing everytime, no music or videos will upload. So if anyone knows how to fix this or has had the same problem who has windows vista please help me.
-thanks
Dell XPS 400 Windows Vista Home Premium

I think the problem is that if you have songs that are not in the itunes folder and they are in the root music folder in vista these are the songs that still have the WinXP file path for the songs listed in itunes. All my songs in the that folder had the WinXP file path. I changed them to AAC format and it put them in the itunes folder and they now have the right file path and that solved the write access error that I was having. I was able to upload all my songs after that.

• Pairing problem with Docs to Go and Windows 7

First, I'm not sure this is the correct forum. I've setup a new Windows 7 laptop and installed Docuemnts to Go (latest version downloaded, no updates needed). An was able to pair with both my iPhone and my iPad. iTunes syncs fine (but that's using a USB cable). I entered folders and files for Docs to Go to sync (the same ones as on my old laptop running Windows XP). Then Docs to Go desktop couldn't find the iPhone and I needed to pair again. I have reinstalled the desktop application, double checked Bonjour, both laptop and iPhone are on the same WiFi. But, I can't pair the two devices to sync my folders and files. Dataviz hasn't been any help - followed all their instructions, e-mailed Tech Support and got a reply that said to do exactly what I told them I did!
Anyone have this problem? Anyone have a solution?
It seems to be a problem with one or the other (desktop application or iPhone app) not communicating via WiFi properly. I'm assuming that that's a Bonjour issue.
