  • Vista Sound problems with K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum

I wonder if anyone have gotten the sound to work under 32-Bit Vista RC1 (build 5600) on the K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI (MS-7100)? Installation of the, by MSI, provided XP driver (Creative_audio_32-64bit.zip) seam to work, and the device looks installed in Device Manager, but still no sound... Also, the icon for volume control in the icon trey detects that there is no sound card installed.
Anyone with a similar problem? Any solutions? Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks!
I did try one of these drivers before without success. Now when I tried the old driver from nov 2005 it worked!

  • X850XT video problem, with K8N NEO4-F

OK have any of you, had or heard of this problem,
I just picked up a sapphire X850XT PCI E video card,
But when I install it, there is blue and red lines going through everything,
This shows up as soon as the computer post’s, so it’s not a driver problem,
Some times it looks fine, then if I try to benchmark the card, with 3Dmark06,
It gets through some of it, and then it gets the lines problem,
I looked around to see if it might have been a compatibility problem,
But I don’t see anything any where, so I’m assuming it’s a bad video card,
But before I send it back thought I would ask about it,
    Specs,
    K8N NEO4-F
    Athlon 64 4000
    1gig ram
500watt dual rail PSU  (all the voltages are normal)

PSU is a antec 500 watt
the card does this right at post, so it's not the drivers,
I have reset it more then I can count, I think it's the card,
when I put this 5300 back in it's fine,

  • Problems with K8N Neo4-F and eVGA 6600GT

Alright, I just built a new PC after my last computer died. The specs:
    MSI K8n Neo4-F
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice)
    1 GB Corsair PC3200 RAM
    eVGA GeForce 6600GT (PCI-Express
    Antec TruePower 550W PSU
Now, when I turn on the computer it seems to boot up okay, except for the fact that, well, I get no video. However, when I hit delete to enter the BIOS, I do get a picture on the screen - but it's horribly scrambled and I can't make out anything whatsoever. I can tell that it's properly going into BIOS because I can vaguely see the selection bar which moves when I press up/down, but I can't do a thing besides that. I have no realy clue what the problem is, especially since I can't even do a thing yet. I checked to make sure the card and power connectors and everything are properly seated... Could having a 20-pin connector in a 24-pin mobo make it do this? Or is it something far more sinister, like a dead video card?

Bought another PCI-e video card and still doesn't work. Guess the motherboard is bad. Ordered an Asus this time. Disappointed with the lack of help from MSI in troubleshooting/solving the problem. I had to buy a regular PCI video card and two new PCI-e video cards just to see were the problem might be; swap-tronics troubleshooting on my dollar($), that sucks...

Helo , I am hoping someone can help me with this. I have read Fafner's thread on installing a sata hard drive on the neo4 mb but the only utility program I found on wd site is called " lifeguard11 for windows". Is this the right utility to use to partion my hard drive? I burned it to a cd and and my computer will post but will not boot from that cd. I have followed the instructions that came with the mb and used the floppys at F6 but it won't countinue to install windows after that.
Also I'm not sure how to enable sata in the bios. Do I go to integrated peripherals/sata devices config. and at the top of the screen it say's RAID Enable. Do I enable that and then enable sata1 raid? I am only using one hard drive. Thanks for help you can give.

My system is similar to yours, if your just using the one Raptor you don't need any special drivers, your mother board will detect the Raptor with out any special settings. I hooked my Raptor up to SATA 1 (look on pg 2-2 of your book for the location) If your only planing on installing one operating system on your hard drive, such as windows XP pro, Windows will format and partition the drive for you.
If your having problems booting from a CD make sure you change the boot order in the BIOS (under advanced bios features pg. 3-8 of your manual) so that CD is before HD. For example, mine is set up for: First boot device = Floppy drive, Second boot device = CD Rom, Third boot device = hard drive, and etcetera. if your using more than one hard drive such as an IDE drive make sure you set the "hard disk boot priority" on the same page to the hard drive you want to boot from.
Once that is done put your Windows CD in the CD drive and reboot, Windows will guide you through the rest.

  • Raid0 problem with K8N NEO4 F1

I have had some strange problems recently after running with complete stability for a couple of months.
    1. On booting up in the morning Windows XP Pro has failed to load. Only a MBR repair or image backup worked.
    2. Problems with Raid on boot occurred with 1. No array warning and only one disk showing up after deleting array.
    I have :-
    1. Run Memtest from Dos with no errors.
    2. Run WDDIAG on both disks with no errors
    3. Checked temperatures. All less than 45
    4. Checked power voltages etc - all good
    5. Re-flashed the bios from DOS.
    6. First thing I did was turn off overclocking btw.
I have changed to RAID1 mirrored drives and things have been absolutely stable for a week. I even have the impression that the system is running faster!I have all the latest drivers installed. My feeling is that this is a bios or chip related problem though there are stories of XP fouling up the MBR when at the 137GB limit, I don't think these apply.
    Any comments would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Meditek,
First would like to go over your CD boot problem, because this totally a BIOS problem and Windows and its drivers not in the picture.  Therefore, I would like to make sure the BIOS running correctly and stably, before we get look at startup or running of Windows has problem.  BIOS Has problem Windows is going to have problems.
The drive boot sequence; If you have a drive boot sequence of (1) Floppy Drive (2) CD Drive (3) Hard Drive and you have no disks in the floppy or CD drive the BIOS should not hang on the Floppy or CD Drive if the is not disk in them or should I give any type of air message.
What I am getting from reading between the lines in your messages is that whenever you need to boot from a drive you are manually placing list in the boot priority less.  Please inform me, if I am wrong?
I would like you to set your boot priority list like the one I listed above, that (1) Floppy Drive (2) CD Drive (3) Hard Drive.  If the is any other devices list place them after the Hard Drive.  Then go to your list of hard drive and insure the drive/Array with Window in stalled on it is first on the list, this tell the BIOS and Windows It is the Windows Boot device.
Next, the CMOS Backup Battery, 2.89V is on the edge of being weak and we need to Totally Eliminate it as a problem.  I just took batteries of old motherboard that have been setting on the self for three to five years that read to same or higher.  So, get a new replacement battery the measures 2.950 or better.  Your current battery if you were having not problem I would you could still use it, but have a new on hand.
A new battery will measure over 3 volts.
Now, like take a look at the BIOS MOS reset procedure you are using.  I myself and others I have been in communications with have been having problems with procedure listed the Manual not completely clearing the CMOS Memory.  Leaving trash in some of the BIOS parameters, some of which are not even list so you do not your have completed a good total clearing of the BIOS and this alone can lead to some real weird problem that are imposable to trace to a cause.  Another MSI Form member gave me this procedure.  This procedure insures the there is no power let in the system to defeat your attempt to clear the clear the BIOS parameters.
    (1)   Unplug the AC Plug cord from the computer.
    (2)   Remove the Battery.  If your like me and has always struggled with get the little battery out when buried behind and under cables in between I/O cards.  Get a small pair of needle nose priers and press the two metal tabs together that make up the retaining clip.  Now this first time you do this it will surprise you, because if there is nothing it its way the spring contact behind it will pop it out with enough force to send it flying.  If you power supply is mounted in the bottom of your case, put paper over the grill, because if the battery goes in there you are in for at lest 12 pack day.
    (3)   With power, unplugged and the battery remove press the BIOS clear button and the Power switch and holed them for twenty to thirty seconds.
    (4)   Then, let the system set for as long as you have patience, at lest thirty minutes.
    (5)   Again, press the BIOS clear button and the Power switch and holed them for twenty to thirty seconds.
    (6)   Reinstall the battery and plug the power back in.
    (7)   Boot the system to the BIOS to BIOS Default Values, Save and Exit.
    (8)   Reboot to BIOS Setup Routine and Set all Bios parameters to the normal system operating parameters, save and exit.
Note: Do not setup your system for any over-clocking, but check you memory default setting to insure the BIOS is setting them correctly.  Mine sets the default memory voltage to below the manufactures spec.
    (9)   Reboot the system to the BIOS setup routine, YES again, rechecks that all of you normal system operating parameters save and exit.
    (10)    Check and insure there are no disks in the Floppy or the CD, if there are remove them.
    (11)    Now when the system reboots it should not hang on the floppy or CD and the should be no error messages unless Windows itself has problem startup.
Now, when you have all that done, reply and let me know how you system is operating.
And that all for today, my communication center between my right and left brain is about a tenth the of normal and this has been working it on over load for about of about two hours, so time for med’s and a nap.
    Roger
When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.

  • Any problems with K8N neo4-FI and Creative X-FI Xtreme Music ???

Hi. Anyone having problems with the mentioned combination. (I've heard about incompatibility issue with creative and nforce4 chipsets) and since I have the mentioned board I would like to avoid future problems and maybe go with Audigy 4 instead. Thanks in advance.

    Here's MSIs technical support answer:
Sometimes before, there was incompatibility issues between the X-FI Xtreme card and motherboards based on nforce 4 chipset. And then, Creative official has stated it existed on almost noforce4 motherboard, not only some or one manufacturer, so user met this issue should contact Creative.
But from Creative's official statement as you find, they thought it caused by nforce4 chip, but our motherboard chipset is from NVIDIA. If NVIDIA had no plan to change the chipset architecture, we can't solve this issue. So we suggest you'd better not use this audio card if you use this MB.
    Best wishes,
    MSI Technical Support
Now when I think about it, I have been using SB live 5.1 for years now and I have changed several platforms (VIA KT 400, Nforce2 (Soltek, Epox), Nforce 3 (soltek) and finaly Nforce 4 and have noticed strange behaviour with many of them in combination with mentioned card (I had to remove additional raid controller card because of skipping video and audio during video capturing on Nforce 2 platform). Now with SB live 5.1 removed, on MSI neo 4-FI it seems that occasional freezing of video on my DVB-T Pinnacle card has gone. I was convinced that the reason was weak reception (although my neighbour from just a few blocks away had excellent picture), but now I am not so shure. I don't know if I want to risk the possibility of repeating all those problems again even if it' "The most powerful audio processor in the world".

  • Memory frequency problem with K8n Neo4 Platinum

I have 4 banks of memory installed:
    2 x 256 GEIL ddr400 Cl2 and 2 x 512 CORSAIR ddr440 cl2.5, total 1.5Gb ram.
They are in dual channel mode, but they run at 100hz and not at 200hz.
If in the bios i set the manual mode for the memory and set 200 hz, than after the reboot they are at 200 hz but in games like wow, css or others the system freezes.
If i let the auto mode for the memory, the system set them at 100 hz and so the problems disappear.
I see the value 100 or 200 hz in the "cell menu->ddr rate". This value is confirmed from cpuz.
How can i set them to 200hz without system freezes?

Quote from: JayBee on 13-December-05, 03:27:53
3 gigs (256x2 + 512x2) is an inherently unstable combination.  While the system could boot that way, you are asking the memory controller on the cpu to negotiate too much when it must run one channel at one type of timing and the other channel at an other.  Even under the best circumstances, you can boot that way but will fail memtest when system is stressed.  Only stable way to use all 4 dimms slots is with 4 identical modules (same size, cas, etc, i.e., same everything). When it comes to mixing sizes like that (2x256 and 2x512), Intel can do it (memory controller is on the board) but AMD cannot (memory controller is on the processor).
Edit- mixing brands (Geil and Corsair) is an other reason why it has to fail.  Intel could do it.  AMD cannot.
Edit Edit- What 400 Watt psu is that?  Note that you need 18 amps on +12 Volt rail minimum for Neo4.  Does your psu have that?  Just because the label says it, does not make it so.  Check what brand it is.
The output at 12V is 18A

check VGA power cable(if your VGA got it), try with another VGA. could be PSU too.
i already did, but this combination isnt listed in that topic as the rest of the leds here aint red...
so what? vga isnt getting enough power? i connected the two hdd power connector to the vga just like its manual says. "Two hard disk drive power dongles off of seperate power supply cable bundles." what should i check then?
a chieftec 420w should be more than enough for a pc like mine from what ive heard and read. :S

  • Audio 5.1 problem with K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Hi,
First of all, apologize for my bad english (I'm French).
    I have a problem similar to aberdeen5...
I recently installed 5.1 speakers on my motherboard, but in Windows, Media Player and PowerDVD I only get sound on the 2 front speakers.
I set 6 speakers in PowerDVD and 5.1 surround speakers in the windows control panel. In the mixer, the sound is on for the six speakers.
I test the speakers with MSI CoreCell and the MSI sound control panel and the 6 speakers work fine...
In dxdiag (DirectX utility), the sound test works only on the front speakers when the software buffer memory is used, but when the test used hardware buffer memory, the sound comes well from the 6 speakers...
I've installed the nVidia unified driver for the nForce4, and the latest Realtek AC97 drivers ( a3.73 WHQL)...
If someone has an idea, or had the same problem and solve it, eventually even with an other motherboard, I thank him very much to help me :-)
    Have a good day !

    Hi,
Finally I tried what you suggested, but the problem remained.
I desinstalled Realtek drivers and installed manually the last nVidia audio ones, included in the 6.53 release. The sound is better, but in PowerDVD it remains on the 2 front speakers...
Perhaps my version of PowerDVD (OEM 5.0) can't play in 5.1... I will try the Deluxe 6.0 version.
when you use 5.1 speakers, do you here the 'ting' sound onthe 6 speakers when you turn on/down the system sound in the task bar ?
I will reinstall the Terratec in my new config and see the behaviour in Windows and PowerDVD 5, then I will know about it.
I will post a new topic later with the solution if I found something. The posts in "New Nforce audio drivers?" from syar2003 were also useful for me. It's difficult to install the audio drivers and choose between "MCP nvidia" and "audio codec nvidia".
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Problems with K8N Neo4

As far as I'm concerned I do not care of overclocking my mobo, I just want it to be stable; period. And from what I've seen it's not.
HTT is all messed up , Vcore is not what it should be , specific memory is needed for the mobo to function properly; sometimes I cannot get it to post and have to "play" with the power on switch yelling "run forest run".
C'mon , after a zillion posts of people complaining about stability issues. I'm sure that MSI can come forward and say "ok we acknowledge the problem and will try to resolve it as soon as possible". This is what I expect from MSI and that was the reason of my preferance to MSI products, please do not proove me wrong.

It's good to know that everyone is hurrying to provide you with answers, nice one guys .
here goes the series of questions; you might be able to help me....,
    1. how come my HTT is set on 5x and central brain identifier says 800 ? Should it be 800 ?
    2. The default vcore shows 1.35 in the BIOS health status,, however when I set it to 1.425 it goes from 1.36 to 1.41 (fluctuating)
    3. The PSU is not the problem, and I hope you're NOT implying that a computer with just the mobo , PCI GFX card , CPU cooler , 1 HDD, 1 Mem stick, and of course mobo  (tried that also) needs a 420W PSU to work !!! you can make a rough calculation over at http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
Also by posting on this forum , I hoped that user complaints or suggestions were conveyed to MSI; one way or another, since after all I can see a big  "MSI SERVICE" label on top of the page while posting this (silly me).
After all, MSI could as well advertise this new mobo as a "PC in a box" containing the right PSU, Mem sticks, and CPU. instead of a standalone component that is affected by your personal choices of other partss.
I can as well lay back on my couch waiting for MSI to release a Stable Bios, reading the posts of others. And since you're saying that there is no MSI representative or any authorised staff  reading the posts (which in my opinion should be) there is no point on posting anymore. I'll just sent a letter of complaint to MSI..
    Thanks Guys

That's all fine and good, but not always the case. Sure, some batches/runs are better than others, and some weeks of production are just good clockers, but it is hard to tell what ANY chip will do just by looking at the markings on it. Getting 3G on stock vcore would be almost unheard of - unless the chip was made to run at 3G of course. 2800Mhz isn't too bad and exactly what I run on my Brisbane 24/7.
The only real way to know what any chip will do, IMO, is to buy from someone who has abused already tried it
