Problems with Keychain

Every time I open Mail, the "Enter Password" screen pops up. If I type in the password and put a check mark in the "save to Keychain" and exclamation mark appears next to the "Inbox" mailbox in my Mail and the messages below appear.
Unable to Receive Mail
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “POP: [email protected]” or try again.
The server returned the error: The user name and password specified in Mail preferences were not accepted by the server.

If I leave the "Save to Keychain" box unmarked, then I am able to access my mail.
I have deleted the mail password from Keychain and re-entered it with no results. This was a minor problem on and off up until it became consistent a couple days ago when I "reset" Keychain.
Safari no longer does "autofill" on my online mail account even though I have the "remember me" box checked and my Quickbook software program always asks for a password now, when it didn't before. Somehow the autofill no longer works there either.
I don't feel as though the passwords are being saved to Keychain any longer. Even though I mark them to save, they do not show up listed in Keychain.

Hi,
Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities). From the menu bar click KeychainAccess / Keychain FirstAid. Enter your admin password then click Verify.
If that doesn't help..
Open a Finder window, select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.keychainaccess.plist file to the Trash.
For Safari. Go back to Keychain Access. Select Passwords on the left. Delete the *Safari Forms Autofill" keychain.
Restart your Mac.

  • Problems with Keychain, login etc etc .... help please :-/

    Hi guys,
My G5 iMac started playing up a couple of days ago.
First of all in Mail it kept asking me for my password for my email account, it wouldn't accept it and kept asking me to set up a 'default Keychain' which I did but still the 'password' window appeared every time I opened Mail ??
I ran Disk Aid and other than a couple of files out of order everything seemed fine.
I looked on the Help menu for Keychain advice and ran Keychain Aid, upon completion it said there were problems ? didn't say what or how to fix them ?
No passwords I entered into Keychain would work at all.
Then yesterday when I turned my computer on it asked for my password ? it's never done this before ..... I entered it and when the computer restarted it was all different ?? There were files on the desktop from 2-3 years ago ?? and when I went into my Pictures, Documents, Music etc there were no files there from the last three years ?? real odd i thought. Opened safari and all my Bookmarks were from 2-3 years ago too ??
Looked on here for hints and tips, did a 'safe' reboot ? installed my original OS X disc but ended up reinstalling OS X.
Then every time I switched on or restarted, it would come up as my computer and ask me to enter my name and password, neither of which it would recognise ??
Again off the installation disc I ran 'Disk Aid' with no problems then started to change passwords etc after logging in as a System Administrator in a new account :-/
Going into Users via my new account I can see two old one's both bearing my name although slightly different. One I can see is from when I originally got this computer, the other is obviously my most recent ? as all my iTunes files, documents etc are there. All that is missing now is my Pictures as all that is in that file is iPhoto. Somehow all my saved pics etc ended up in a Pictures folder within my Home (folder/file ?) within my last account. Obviously as I can't log into that account anymore I can't access my Home menu under it :-/
Any suggestions guys ? does it make any sense ? sorry to babble.

If i go into Macintosh HD then down to Users I can see my two old Home folders. If i go into the most recent, like I said earlier there is only iPhoto in the Pictures folder, this is due to an error I needed to correct before all my hassle with Keychain and Passwords started. If I could log in to that Home folder I'd be able to access my pics but my Mac isn't recognising any passwords for it ??
When you open the Finder window and you can see Desktop - Home - Documents - Music - Pictures and Movie folders there used to be nothing but iPhoto in the Pictures folder, however if i clicked on my Home folder in the Finder menu my pictures could be found within the Pictures folder in there.
Although i can see my other Home folders under Users in the Macintosh HD, when I go into System Preferences - Accounts - the only one present is this new 'system administrator' one I set up yesterday ??

  • Have problems with Keychain

I'm having massive problems with my keychain. They are not the same password as my main password to my computer itself, so everytime I open up the browser, or Safari, rather...the keychain window keeps popping up. How do I resolve this?

    Hi
If you have a different keychain password from your log in password this is to be expected
However there is a work around you can try open the keychain access application and go to preferences click on the first aid tab and look at the "change login keychain settings" check that box and your keychain will always be unlocked you could toggle it on and off as needed
Also with "keychain access" open go to the menu bar and click on the edit option and then click on "change settings for keychain login" if either of the top 2 boxes are checked uncheck them
It might be easier to use your login password to open your keychain and you can do this in this in the "keychain access" preferences in the first aid box just check the 2nd and 3rd check boxes and your keychain will unlock at login
    Hope This Helps

  • Problem with Keychain from AppleScript

Either I am doing something wrong, or there is a bug in the Keychain.
I have a script to mount disks from my Mac Pro on my MacBook Pro. I use the following code to get the password for that server (Atlas) from the keychain to be able to mount the disks :
    tell application "Keychain Scripting"
    launch
    tell current keychain
tell (some key whose name is "Atlas")
    set PWDA to password
    end tell
    end tell
Every time the script runs, window pops up to ask me to allow access to the Keychain.
I have run the script several times, and clicked the <Always Allow>, but every time the message comes back. I think this behavior would be normal if I clicked <Allow>, but when I click <Always Allow>, the script should run from then on without showing this message again.
When I change the Access Control setting in the keychain to "Allow all applications to access this item", the message keeps popping up.
After clicking <Always Allow> or <Allow>, the script works, and I get the password in PWDA. but it is enervating to have to allow the access every time.
    Any suggestions ?

After some reading and testing, I found the solution, which is quite simple once you know.
Apologies to Apple : there is no bug in Keychain ...
I tried to use an item that was already defined in Keychain for afp. Therefore it kept on asking me every time to allow access.
Nov I defined a new item in Keychain, named AtlasW, with the password and "Allow all applications to access this item".
    The script is now :
    tell application "Keychain Scripting"
    launch
    tell current keychain
tell (some key whose name is "AtlasW")
    set PWDA to password
    end tell
    end tell
It just asks me once to allow access to the item, the first time I run the script, ad then it works without any message showing any more.
    Problem solved.

  • Reverting to no login necessary and problems with keychain

For some reason I don't understand, my iMac now requires me to log in even though I'm the only user. First that happened, now there's also an Other account.
My Keychain has me locked out. My password doesn't work. Isn't it possible to reset the password for it?
This is a lot of problems to be having on such a new computer

Replacing the SIM card necessitated restoring the software and all of the applications I have purchased.
The applications would not wok with the new SIM card. During this process I lost all of my application preferences and info (like scores in games I was playing) and all of my sent mail for mail accounts other than mobile me even though I have backed up the iPhone completely before the restore. A lengthy process with a frustrating ending.

  • I'm having a problem with keychain password, I never created Oneida

I Just ordered a new laptop and it is asking me for a keychain password which I have never created.  can anyone help me?

I don't think you provided a login password when you setup the computer. Your Apple ID is not your password, but it can be used to change a password if you configured that option during setup. You need to assign a login password. This should also become your Keychain password.
    Forgot Your Account Password
For Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
        Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
instructions in the dialog window that will appear.
         Or see:
Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password
OS X Mountain Lion- Reset a login password,
OS X Mavericks- Solve password problems,
OS X Lion- Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Should this not resolve the Keychain password request please let me know. Write your password down and store it somewhere safe in case you forget it.

  • Problems with keychain and safari

Ever since I hooked uo my wireless router I am prompted to enter in a keychain password when I use safari. Problem is my administartors password does not work. I can stay on safari but get kicked off of p2p networks.
I have tried to turn my keychain access off but I can not unlock the keychain access. I have booted up the install disk, and reset the admin password, but that does not reset the keychain password.
How can I turn off and/or reset the password.

wait.. do you have WEP enabled on you router? If so that is probably a seperate pass from your usual keychain password which is usually your login pass.
When WEP is enabled you are asked for a pass to connect to the wireless network. If that is the case you have to remember the pass you used to set it up or find the person that set it up for you so you can connect.
    Good luck...

  • Sync has problems with Keychain

Hello to everyone else who is spending much longer than they would like on getting 10.5 to work properly!
I have manually updated my keychain login preferences after they didn't import properly from my backup. However when I go to sync now i get this message: *You entered an invalid .Mac member name or password*. Verify your .Mac member name and password in .Mac System preferences.
Then when I go to system preferences I get this: *Keychain error*.There was a problem saving to your keychain. Please try again or use Keychain Access to verify your keychain. Error: -2147415734.
As far as I can see my login details are accurate.
    Any one got any ideas?
    Thanks
    Stephen

OK - I seem to have solved this one. Sorry to waste your time.
Any idea how to get my mail messages back into my INBOX? I have a backup saved but Leopard is steadfastly refusing to recognise and import them.

  • Problems with Keychain and

I was on my computer and I tried to change something in the system preferences and the computer wouldn't let me. I noticed that the keychain lock on the bottom. Of the screen was locked so I made a attempt to unlock it but it wouldn't let me. When I put in the info that I always put in for my administrator's name and password that has never been change that I know of it says that it not the right name or password. I don't know what else to do at this point can someone help. I don't care what I have to do.

Since there's no lock associated with the System Preferences window, you need to provide more information. Exactly which prefPane are you trying to unlock? Alternatively, go to http://search.info.apple.com/ and search for *reset password* and review the various articles that search returns, since that might be your only option.

  • Problem with keychain

I keep having a pop up menu when I open Mail which says:
    "please enter your keychain password"
I enter my login password and it says incorrect password. So I started up from the system disc changed my password, and it still does the same thing.
How can I correct this issue. The same error message pops up when I try to access machines on my network.

I'm having the same issue, very frustrating, is there a way of starting over again? I can log in with my admin log in, but when I open mail it asks for every password for every mailbox _every time_!~ I realize that the main USER login is different from the mail passwords but it always refers back to my Computer "USER name" Please enter your keychain password
"Mail" or "Keychain Access" wants to use keychain _" MY USERNAME"_it always says invalid pasword.
Is there a way of starting over from scratch? Without loosing everything?

  • Installed lion have problem with keychain password

When i type the password for systems certificate itsays the password that i use for all the other keychains is wrong.  I get the multicolor spinning wheel each time after i enter the password.

Hi. I am wondering if you have solved the problem yet? I haven't had any other replies, so maybe my post isn't visible in the right places!
I have tried booting up in Safe mode, completely re-installing OS X Mavericks in Recovery mode, and repairing both permissions and the disk in Disk Utility, all without success. Those little windows are still there!
I came across 'How to KILL Keychain from Safari access' in More Like This, which appeared to be helpful, but the link given by Ash, doesn't seem to be active, as I just get the Apple Support home page.
If anyone else sees this, do you have any suggestions, please?

  • Can anyone please help me with Keychain problems?

    Hello,
I'm using a MacBook Pro with Maverick.  I installed Maverick yesterday and ever since then I've had problems with Keychain.  I realize that many people have had problems with it post Maverick installation.  However, since I'm relatively unfamiliar with Macsy systems I would like to find out the following:
    1) How essential are the entries in Keychain i.e. if I delete them all, will it affact the functionality of my MacBook Pro?
    2) How do I delete all the entries if doing so won't cause any problems?
    3) Is there something else I can do to fix the problem without deleting everything in Keychain?
At the moment, when I logon to my Pro, I have to enter my password and a password related to Keychain.  This is the message that pops up:
OS X want to use the 'Local Items' Keychain.  Please enter the keychain password.
I select cancel and are then logged in to my Pro.  However, various other apps are then affacted by the Keychain, most notably my iCloud.  I am unable to log into my iCloud through System Preferences because it requires a Keychain password. Safari is also affected by it.
This is extremely frustrating because I didn't set up a Keychain password.  It seems I'm stuck in a loop.  I've tried to reset the Keychain and to restore to defaults, but in order to do so, I have to enter a pasword, which I don't know.
I just want to start again or remove Keychain, but as far as I can tell, it is not possible to get rid of Keychain.
    Many thanks.

OK, I have resolved the issue.
It was al very complicated and I had enough really, so I decided to take some drastic action.
I created another admin user account, ensured that it was working, went to user accounts and deleted my original account with the problem.  It is working fine now.
I know this is not really a solution, but it was fine for me since I had just set up my original user account, so there wasn't anything to lose really.

  • In Yosemite, I can;t operate for more than a few minutes with Keychain or Safari asking for my login password.  How can I turn this off, and still be safe?

Using Yosemite, I an't seem to work for more than a few minutes without being asked for my login password.  Keychain wants it, Safari wants it, iCloud wants it..the list goes on.  Then in 10 minutes or so, they all want it again.  Passwords are being stored by Safari as usual, but new tabs or pages bring up the request.  How can I turn this off and still have protection?

    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

  • Problem transferring keychain access to new iMac

just bought a new iMac, but am having problems with keychain access which has not automatically transferred with Migratiin Assistant.
can anyon help please? My old computer is also an iMac.

Are you really using 10.4.9? 'Apple Menu > About this Mac' should tell you the correct OS X version number.
The keychain is stored inside your home 'library'
On your old Mac or old backup find the /Users/YOUR-OLD-USERNAME/Library/Keychains folder. This may be hidden! You will need to use the Finders 'Go Menu > Go to Folder…' to open the library within that folder. Just drop the old home folder into that field to complete the path and add /Library to the end of it.
Double click that file & it should import that into the Keychain Access database.
Eject the backup & double check that you can still read items in the old keychain. It should copy it into the new library - but I cannot recall if 10.4 behaved the same way.

  • HT6065 I installed this update.  I have never had problems with "multiple prompts to unlock "Local items" keychain" until after I installed this update.  Now, I can't get it to STOP prompting me.

So how do I fix this?  How do I get this to go away?  It's prompting me for a password that I haven't ever set up!

I have the same problem with three pop-up prompts:
    (1) com.apple.iCloudHelper wants to use the "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
    (2) CalendarAgent wants to use the "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
    (3) AddressBookSourceSync wants to use the "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
I can enter my login password and the prompt goes away for a little while, but eventually returns.  Or I can click on "Cancel" many multiple times and it goes away for a little while, but returns again.
I want a solution too and hope this additional information will help.
