Problems with kt3 ultra + radeon 9800pro

hey guys,
heres my story (bare with me)
i bought a radeon 9700 pro around christmas time, recieved it, (almost) everything worked fine on it, etc etc. however in games, it would give me this weird flickering poly thing going on (screenshot included) after seeing this, i stuck an extra fan in my case, thinking it was a heating issue. no worky. after that i just assumed the heatsink/fan wasnt securely on the chip. whatever.
anyway, i returned the vid card, got my money back and just decided to sit on the extra money for another couple of months and let prices drop a bit.
soooo i order myself a radeon 9800 pro this week. i get it today, and im getting the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. so obviously it wasnt a heat issue, it was.. something else.
this is where you come in  anyone have ANY ideas why i would be having this problem? im attaching a screenshot i snagged of what the error looks like (if that will help at all)
i have already tried running driver cleaners, blah blah blah. i even reformatted and reinstalled windows on the drive, and im STILL having the same problem.  not to mention i get occasional lockups and bluescreens.
ive tried flashing bios, updating mobo drivers nothing fixes it.
is this just some quirky incompatability between the mobo and the vid card or what?  (i had a gf3ti200 in here before the 9800pro.. never had any problems)
so can anyone help or am i just going to have to buy a new motherboard?

"DOS'ish" ?
start with flashing the latest mobo bios before you start if you haven't allready. I recommend stick with the 3.7 Cat driver (many people are reporting worse problems with the later rev Cat drivers) and follow these directions:
1) download and install the latest via driver (i know, you have it)
2) download and install latest soundblaster driver (if you are using a soundblaster audio card of course)
3) download and install catalyst 3.7 driver/control panel/samartgart from ati.
4) disable fast-write in bios (this was causing corrupted icons and cursor in windoze).
5) go to c:\programs\ati technology\ati control panel and execute smartgart (it's a link)
6) enable - pci read/write and agp read (probably allready is enabled).
7) disable - agp write (default in my case was on causing lots of stability problems in games).
"apply", reboot, then "ok".
above solved all my probs w/9600 pro and msi kt3 ultra-aru
good luck!

  • Sound problems with KT3 ultra

    Hello All
    I have a KT3 Ultra, WinXP Pro, LG CD-RW (HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B ), 512 Mb DDR Ram etc.
My problem is that when i rip cd's to MP3 i lose all sound. This has happened with Easy CD-DA and Exact Audio Copy.
If I go into AC'97 Audio config all speakers seem to work exept the Front Left and Right. But this seems to stop them all from playing any audio.
Reinstalling AC'97 fixes it but it's a bit annoying.
    Audio driver : 5.10.0.3840
    Audio controller : VIA 3059
    AC97 Codec : ALC650
    Any help appreciated

I think i solved it by installing the 5.10.0.4050 drivers.

  • Problems with KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E)..please help

    Hey all-
    Here is my system configuration:
    MSI KT3 Ultra MS-6380E) motherboard
    AMD Athlon 2100+ XP cpu
    (2) 512mb PC2700 DDR ram (1 gig total)
    (2) 120gb Western Digital 7200rpm Harddrives (240gb total)
Nvidia Geforce Ti 4600 video card
Creative Labs Sound blaster Audigy Platinum
    LG 32x10x40 CDRW
    16x DVD ROM
    400 watt power supply
    Here is my problem:
Just built the machine, checked every plug and everything and when I turn on the machine I got no screen, no post, no beeps, nothing.
So I turned the machine, and cleared the CMOS.  Turned the machine back on and got post , went into the BIOS, set the time, date, yada yada, all the drives were detected fine.  I went in the Frequency/Voltage Control screen and the "CPU FSB Clock" was set to 100 mhz, "CPU Ratio" was set to Auto as was the "CPU Voltage, DDR Voltage, and AGP Voltage".  I saved settings and rebooted but then I didn't get a screen, no post, no beeps.
I tried clearing CMOS again, turned machine on, got back in the BIOS just fine.  I tried setting the CPU FSB Clock to 133mhz and left everything else on Auto.  Rebooted and once again ..nothing.. no screen.
I don't understand what the problem could be.  It seems that I can only get a screen when I clear the CMOS.  But even if i use the "Load BIOS Setup Defaults" or even the "Load High Performance Defaults" I still get no screen or anything when I reboot.
Can anyone help me here?  I have never run into this before.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Joe

If it is only doing it when you turn your bus speed of 100 up to 133 for the xp processor then I have had the problem.  If you are booting with a bad cpu that isn't working properly (can't run at 133)  then the computer will not POST.  As soon as you clear the cmos it sets the speed back down to 100 for failsafe.  If you try to boot a duron processor like a 700 or something on fsb 133 then the motherboard won't post.  Make sure you don't have a duron processor instead of a athlon xp or a bad cpu.  I would recommend taking it to the place you bought it or else an autorized amd spot.  They should be able to throw in another proc and check it out.

  • RAM problems with KT3 Ultra 2 causing STOP errors in XP

I've run the NEC ncramtst program on my PC and its coming up with an error in the extended memory at adddress 1B8EE01C which probably explains the stop errors and problems I've been having in XP...
I've tried reseating the RAM and tried a different slot but it still returns the same error.
The PC is only 2 months old and I have only experienced stop errors in the last 2 weeks or so and usually are at random - and occur more often when copying files - or putting load on the PC.. any ideas why the RAM is only now causing errors and what the problem is?
Are the problems definatly being caused by RAM or could it be the motherboard?
    Thanks in advance

  • Ram Problem With KT3 Ultra

    Hi Guys,
I have posted on here before.
    I have a kt3 ultra mobo.
The problem i have is when playing games the system locks up and i have to hard restart.
I have followed advice from this board the the faq ant mobo bios set up which sadly has not solved the problem.
Very strange but in the pc i have two x 256 meg ddr ram.
If i take either stick out the pc plays games perfectly. This is frustrating as both sticks work fine on their own but not together.
    ANY IDEAS ? ;(

    Hi,
Sometimes it happens that sticks just won't work together....
You might want to swap one of the sticks with a friend to see if the problem is gone...

  • Big problem with KT3 Ultra (ms-6380e v1.0) after flashing the BIOS (de

    Hello out there.
I have a real complicated matter with my Kt3 Ultra board.
Used to work fine, but after I flashed it with the latest BIOS (5.7), the board has this strange behaviour: when I clear the CMOS, the board boots up, when I change & save the settings, the board does not "come to life"(black screen & beeper silent).
It has also this weird problem: it shows garbage charaters on the voltage setting of the CPU. Instead of voltages (i.e. 1.750 etc. etc.) I have only "scrambled" strings.
I had MANY difficulties in upgrading the BIOS because the AMI-flashing utility kept telling me "bios protection enabled) (but there was NO bios-protect setting in the previous bios - I checked a zillion times)...but after trying with different revisions finally I made it.
I already tried everything (re-flashed older bios-es etc. etc.)and I'm starting to feel beat ... if you have any advice, please le me know.
It would be really SAD to put this great board in the garbage-dump....
      Bye,
    Wyk'03

im having problems with this board as well,
i had no problems with the flash,
    i did this...
    boot to win me floppy,
copy the flash files to ramdrive, flashed to latest bios..
now windows hangs when i have my ac97 audio enabled in bios...
    I WANT MY AC97!
hmmm can you get to a dos prompt from a boot disk?
try re-flashing with 1.0 again and then disable the cmos virus protection thingy, and yes it was there it was in the 1.0 bios on the main screen.

  • Problem with Kt3 ultra

Ok here is my problem.  I reformatted my computer and accidentally f-ed with my bios settings.  After clearing the cmos and flashing the bios, i reformatted again and reinstalled windows xp.  I was able to update everything (SP1, audio drivers) except the video driver.  I can install the video driver, but when i reset to finish the installation, the system goes to the windows load screen and then the monitor just goes blank.  When i go into safe mode, there is a message that my video card had problem drawing something.  I have tried every possible driver there is, and its is the same result. Anyone got suggestions?  I have AMD 1700, kt3 ultra, mx440 nvidia.  Thanks

OK i tried it in safe mode, which didnt work. Maybe i'm doing this wrong. Here is my procedure. The last working config was right before the video card is detected.  I let windows detect the card and install the driver. Then i go into add remove programs and remove the nvidia drivers, which removes the video card from the device list. I then install the 4 in 1 drivers. Restart. Then install the video driver. The restart again, which always leads me to dark screen after windows load. By the way, tahnks for your help.

  • Odd video problem with KT3 Ultra 2-r and GeForce4Ti4400

I don't know if I should post this on the VIA forum or on the VGA forum, so I'm gonna post on both. sorry.
My system specs are on my signature, and anyways, here's my problem.
When I turn on my PC, the monitor shows jaggy white lines all over the screen (as if the refresh rate / resolution was too high) instead of showing the GeForce BIOS (right before the POST).
This is weird, since a year ago, when I got my MSI nForce/ MSI GeForce4 Ti4400, this wasn't a problem. And now I have KT3 Ultra 2 and MSI GeForce4 Ti4400 Chapmionship edition, and I do.
Not only that, but most of the times when I restart my PC, my monitor goes into POWER SAVING mode instead of showing the POST and Loading Windows screen.
I even try to go into the BIOS while the monitor is in powersave mode and it does go in, but the monitor is dead.
The monitor comes back to life as soon as it reaches the WindowsXP logon screen. But like I said, it goes into powersave mode as soon as I restart and until it reaches the WinXP logon screen.
I mean, this is a minor problem, but its a pain in the ass!!!!
Whenever I'm trying to tweak the BIOS, it will often times do this, and even if I turn the monitor off, unplug it from the PC, unplug it off the wall, when I plug it back in, it still is in powersaving mode, even though the PC is running.
    HELP!

No, my Ti4400 is not the Champ ed. The actual model number on it is 8871 ver-1.00. You can read about my problem's in the "Have you seen this?....." thread on this forum (page 7 now I think)
I haven't had a problem in the last couple days though. I removed some Reg tweaks (this is a DAW box) and ....dont luagh, turned up the heat in my house. I'm not sure if it was the Reg edit or Temp, but things are working ATM.
Nice to know I'm not alone though,

  • Audio Problems with KT3-Ultra MB

I have the KT3-Ultra MB and I am trying to set up a four speaker setup using the sound manager utility that came packaged with the board.  Regardless to which setup I select from the utility which configures the 3 onboard sound jacks, I cannot get any sound from the second (rear) port.  Has anyone else encountered this issue or know how to fix it?

I own 2 sets of speakers.  One is a set with 2 satellites and a sub that (The slender black satellites from Altec Lansing I think) and I have another set consisting just of 2 satellites also from Altec Lansing.  Both sets terminate in a simple headphone type jack.  Either set works when plugged in to the first audio port labelled for front audio, but neither of them works when plugged into the jack configured for rear sound.
To test them I am using the Sound Manager utility that is packaged wit6h the MB that shows a picture of your setup and allows you to click on each speaker and it sends a sound to the speakers individually, allowing you to hear which ones work and whatnot.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sound and I have downloaded all of the latest drivers from this website...
This thing is starting to get frustrating....

  • Problem with KT3 Ultra/AMD 2100+ temp

    hi,
Im not too familiar with motherboards but i know when there is something seriously wrong. I have a MSI KT3 Ultra motherboard with a AMD XP 2100+ processor. My computer normally ran at a CPU temp of 45C, but today I installed the new version of PC Alert 4. All of a sudden my CPU temp increased 15C. Now its running at 60C, which i think is too high. I havent changed anything else, and nothing has been overclocked. I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4400 and 512mb RAM. Please help.
    Thanks in advance

PS: anyone else have any other ideas? dont wanna be ungrateful but i dont think thermal paste stops working within a 2 hour period all of a sudden.
No it wont, but it has probably been running at that temp all along.....Maybe your first PCAlert was just giving false temps........Did you ever check it in the bios before?

  • [VIA] Problem with kt3 ultra 2 and 2800+ Barton

Please help. I've a 2800+ barton on my motherboard 6380E with bios 5.7 But my processor is recignized as a 2500+.
In the bios, my Fsb is 166 and all the rest is on auto. I've 1,5 GB memory pc2700 333 mhz.
I'm trying to force 12.5/13 in bios but it stay as 11.5 (saw with cpuz). What can i do to have the 2800+ recognized with this motherboard ? Help !!! I've change the FSB to 180, but with cpu-z, the processor is still a 2500+

You could try WCPUID, which can also determine the cpu that you have.
    http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html
Failing that as Wonkanoby said check the codes on the cpu itself.
Perhaps as an alternative just try raising the FSB from 166 to 167. Upon boot instead of the bios detecting the cpu, it will give you the clock speed albeit at 167. Since you have the multiplier you can then work out the clock speed at 166, if you see what I mean and determine (or have a better idea) of the cpu that you have.
    Good Luck

  • Fsb problem with Neo4 Ultra

I have been having a problem with my neo4 ultra that seems to be pretty common.
I can not boot past a fsb of 219 reliably.
    My system is
    AMD64 3200+
    MSI K8N Neo4 nForce4 Ultra
    Wavemaster Case
OCZ Gold Series Dual 1GB DDR PC-3200
    Thermalright XP-90
    OCZ ModStream 520W
    Sapphire Radeon X800 XL
I am doing it all with clockgen to up my FSB to find the best results. I am on 1.24 BIOS
    My Basic BIOS settings are
    FSB = 219
    HTT = 4x
Mem at 166 Voltage at 2.85
    Mem Timmings at 2.5-3-2-8 1T
    CPU 10x startup - cpu-z reports voltage at 1.58
Rasied FSB by 5 at a time to 251 and super pi failed.
Changed vcore to 1.60 and the best I could get super pi to run at was 247. So I decided to start fine tunning my memory.
    I set mem to 180 2.5-3-3-10-1T
Used clockgen again and what was interesting was FSB of 255 passed with a superpi of 34 sec. Now it failed at fsb258.
Changed mem timmings to 200 2.5-3-3-10-1T
And best I could get was fsb=230 and superpi failed. I decided to keet the 180 divider and see how far I can drop the timming at 180.
So I ended up at this
    FSB =251
    HTT 4x
    Mem 180 2-3-2-8 1T volts = 2.85
    CPU 10x Volts cpu-z reports 1.63
Runs prime stable all night at these settings.
But here is the thing if I go into the BIOS and change fsb to 221 My machine will not boot.
I am guessing the power up sequence is wrong in the BIOS

I cannot boot at over FSB 219, either. Will overclock fine with Clockgen when in XP (have tried up to 270 fsb, and the CPU will run 2574mhz at 1.5). But have to reset bios if I set the FSB over 219, regardless of memory HTT, vcore, etc , settings. I've been watching other forums and have seen MANY people with the same problem. One of the things I have in common with a lot of other people with this problem is that my Winnie 3500+ Retail will not run much over stock with the low vcore that this board gives as default. I have used Core Center, Sisoft Sandra 2005, and CPUz 1.27 to check vcore once in windows. All of them show 1.36 for vcore. That's lower than default of 1.4. And when I set the vcore for 1.55 and the overvoltage thingy to highest percentage in bios, all the monitoring apps show 1.526, which is waaay lower than it should be (1.67). Now, I will concede that the monitoring apps could be wrong. But, I believe the 219mhz POST issue is due to the start up vcore and multiplier is PROBABLY default at post. So, if your FSB is set for more than the CPU will run at it's default vcore and multiplie + set FSB, then the board freezies at POST. If the bios would just boot at whatever you set into the bios, then there wouldn't be a problem, unless yoiu have set thingswaay too high. Then it would just do what it does now, not POST, and you would have to reset the bios. There are a lot of Winchester core CPU's out there that will run high mhz at default voltages. But, there are a lot of newer Winnie's that won't. Mine is one of them.
Now it seems that there is a limitation on the board of 1.55 vcore with a Winnie. Even using the overvoltage setting. What is that all about? You put overclocking friendly on the retail box, on the product page on the main site, and all the review sites say overclocking potential is graet, and then you limit the vcore to 1.5v? Crazy logic (or should I say "Fuzzy Logic")   I am close to eBaying this board (only had it 2 - 3 days, but won't send it back to ZZF for replacement as all of them could have the same problem) and go with the DFI or the Abit Fatality.
Am I saying all this right?

  • Problem with K9N Ultra and Windows 7!!

    Hello,
    I have the following system:
    - K9N Ultra (MS7250 - Version:2.0)
    - AMD Athlon 64 3500+
    - 4x Kingston KVR533D2N4/512
    - NVIDIA GForce 7300GS
    - Seagate Baracuda: ST3120827AS (7200rpm)
    - NEC DVDRW ND4571A
I am running Windows XP SP3 but when I try to install Windows 7 (either 32 or 64 bit versions), when the system boots up, I choose to run from CD/DVD, the files are being loaded in the beginning but then the system is stuck in the next screen where it says Starting Windows with the green bar. I have left it for up to 90 minutes and it remains there, no change. I have tried with several different disks, always the same. I tried disabling legacy USB drivers, disabling on board audio, disabling USB and having a normal keyboard and mouse, always the same, no change whatsoever, the system halts at the same point every time.
Can someone please offer some help?

i tried once more, again disabling onboard audio, legacy, floppy, everything.....same thing, when the files are loaded and the screen goes at the green bar, the DVD spins down and halts there for ever.
i am really pissed with this problem. i have installed windows 7 in all of my computers and this is the only one that absolutely refuses for windows 7 to be installed!
hmm..what do you mean about the PSU? why would the installation of 7 have a problem with the PSU? 2 days ago i installed again windpws xp sp3 (just to see if they would install in contrast to 7) without a problem. i am really tired of changing keyboards, DVDs, taking RAM in and out etc to it...i could live without the need to take a PSU out of another pc and install it to that one, is there some BIOS fix for the problem you mention?
the bios is version 3.00 from what i read.
also..what is nvidia boot agent that is the fourth option of boot in my bios??
