Problems with Links...

Hello,
for whatever reason on my home page I have put two links and when I try to check them online I can't click on it. What am I doing wrong? I never had that problem before as I have plenty of links through the web page and don't have a problem there with clicking. Suggestions?

I can't work out the exact cause, but it's almost certainly related to your use of absolute positioning and z-index. Using absolute positioning for page layout is normally a huge mistake. See the following article for details: http://apptools.com/examples/pagelayout101.php.
Absolute positioning removes content from the document flow. One of your absolutely positioned elements is almost certainly preventing access to the links.

We have been having issues with links on our email templates. Some of the links point to the following URL:

Sometimes we get “Unknown internal error” on the web page.

Hi Wesley,
This is rather late, but we've seen the same thing frequently (and I believe can replicate it). It's caused when you a creating a new email by copying the content of an existing one with a name space in it.
Upon copying, the link gets scrambled. The approach we use is to copy the email in to a new template, then strip out all of the URL links and add them back in.

Problem with links for external user

Hi,
We´re using SAP NetWeaver Portal 2004s SPS 10 and we have a problem with links within notification-mails:
The link to the document (e.g. within a subscription mail) consists of "http:///...". Only user using the portal within our network can open this links. All external user can´t open this links. How can I change the URL so that our external user can open the links, too?

We already have another URL for external usage. My problem is how to define that created links to documents and folder are automatically using the external URL.
If somebody receives an email (e.g. subscription) the URL to the folder is:
http://<portalserver>:51000/irj/go/km/navigation/documents/Public Documents/Documentation
But it should be:
https://<externalportal>/irj/go/km/navigation/documents/Public Documents/Documentation

Indesign CS6 on MACs with OS 10.8 are having problems with links

Hi
Indesign CS6 on MACs with 10.8 are having problems with links. All links to other files have to be updated when opening a file although definitely nothing has changed to the linked files.
We can rule out our company's networking and the system hosting the files (HELIOS software on RedHat Linux VM). This happens with newly created Indesign files and with old ones. E.g. we create a file on Tuesday, save it and open it again on the exact same MAC on Wednesday and all links to other fiels (.indd, .png, .bmp, etc. nothing uncommon) have to be updated as they all show the yellow triangle + black exclamation mark symbol next to them. Has anybody else experienced this, What can we do? We have tried absolutley everything and updated all software from MAC OS to CS6 itself but nothing seems to help on the long run.
Any further information required?

We actually noticed that there also seems to be something wrong with the timestamps:
If we open the infos via the MAC finder to a file (.psd e.g.) which is linked in one of our indesign files, it states a certain date of creation.
If we then switch to the Indesign file we just opened in which we had to update all links and open the infos to exactly the same file we looked at in the finder, a different date of creation is stated. So there also seems to be a mistake here (hope it's clear what I mean).
We are ruling out our network as the error cannot be "re-enacted". We have created numerous test files in Indesign (simple white page containing one link to a .psd file which is also used in one of the supposedly defective files) and have opened them on various MACs with various OS versions over the past days/weeks but unfortunately the files open without any notifications or errors.
Just as a background: a few months ago, the problem seemed to occur between MACs with differing OS, 10.6 - 10.8 at first. A file which was created on a 10.6 MAC could not be opened without updating all links on a 10.8 MAC. That is why we updated everything to 10.8. The error did not occur for about 2-3 weeks but then reoccured again.?
Have you heard anything similar?

Strange problem with linking to external vob-file

I have a strange problem with linking to external vob-file. I
have created a link using BudApi:

This code opens mpg-videos correctly, but nothing happens
when I try to open vob-files with the same code. The strangest
thing is that when I change the default program for vob-files to
WinDVD this code works and the file opens, but when I change the
default program to Nero Showtime this code doesn't do anything
(when I open the file 'manually' from the folder, it opens
correctly on Nero Showtime). My client uses Nero Showtime, so I
really would appreciate any help on this one.

If you open a command prompt, do you get an association
listed like this

okay, Before the upgrade to os5, we were able to go to the website to get the e-edition of our local paper. The way their website is designed you first see part of the first page and then there is a link to take you to the full page. Everything worked just fine. Then after the upgrade, last Saturday, i am able to get the first part of the page, but when I click on the link to access the full page it goes to a blank page -about:blank. I do have safari on my laptop (an ibm) and the link works fine there. Is it a problem with Safari, the settings on my ipad or what? Please help?

How do I fix problem with linked and cropped image frames not printing properly when spanning pages?

We are using InDesign (ID) to develop and print church bulletins which contain a combination of text frames and graphics. One of the graphic types we use are TIF files which are high-resolution scans of hymns.
A hymn usually has a combination of the musical score, plus the lyrics - with many verses., so the modular structure is 'staff' composed of a treble clef, followed by verses, followed by a base clef.
If the example above had 6 verses instead of one, we would crop the image by adjusting the frame, so that the treble clef and the desired verses showed through the frame.
We would then copy and link the frame - piggy back - adjusting the next content window etc....so we build a custom version of the music as a series of linked frames - each with the same base image, but a different frame position.
So this works fine, when we do this on a single page, but when we then add a 'last staff' at the top of the following page, we encounter print problems with some output devices.
Imagine a two-page spread, with a full page of music on the left, and the last staff (treble clef, verses, base clef) unit as a separately linked frame at the top of the right page of the spread.
It displays correctly, and will print individually as pages correctly, but when we print it as a booklet, the last frame drops out and we have blank space.
I can print the document to PDF and it works fine, but if I print it to a copier or laser printer I get drop out.
It is inconsistent.
Previews are always okay. Individual page prints are okay, but when you print the entire document, the last frame in this kind of linked series gets blanked.
If we create and name the image differently, and call it in as a new image - (not linked to the previous), but it is still a large image that is cropped to a small piece, then it doesn't print.
If we save the last frame as a different image type (take the TIFF file into photoshop, crop it and save it as a jpg - so it is only the 'snippet') and then import it, it works fine.
So my question to you InDesigners....is there some setting or tip or trick I need to know to be able to link a series of frames with the same base image, but different crops and make it span across two pages properly.
Or do we need to play this game of crop and trim the image so that it doesn't drop out?
Any thoughts, advice, direction would be gratefully received!

I did a lot of such hymn things in the past, but I was alway working on the scans in Photoshop, like adjusting, retouching spots and cropping. And I was always seperating those images to be more flexible so I never run into such a problem.
I am always scanning in a higher quality level than I would need, I scan it in color, this allows me to eliminate paper color easily, even if I need 1-bit images at the end, I do it in color, so I can also turn the image.
I did once run into a similar problem with a scan I have got from a copier-scanner machine (it was not a song). But saving as PSD resolved my problem.
So I would suggest: Open your files in Photoshop, resave them as PSD files and use those instead. If you use 1-bit images (which is fine for this type of images) you should use a resolution equal to the printer's resolution.

Adobe Standard 6.1 Problems with links

Hyperlinks in pdf's don't work.
I have created a 9 page newsletter in Microsoft Word. Each page contains articles with various types of hperlinks. Most of these links contain a "click here" type instruction. In the first 6 pages the links work well. In the last 3 pages some links work but most don't. In the past the newsletter has gone well using this process until lately. Over the last month 4 staff have started having problems with these links when converting a Word document to a pdf using Adobe Acrobat 6.1. We re-installed the program on our pc's and the server and downloaded updates. One staff member uses 8.0 Professional and he had problems with the links this morning too. Our IT help desk people can't help us and we MUST get our newsletter onto our website today. Any suggestions would be extremely welcome.

First, be sure you have updates to AA6.0.6, the lastest version of AA6. I have no idea about any AA6.1. How did you create the PDF? To get the links to work properly you need to use PDF Maker. Printing to PDF will allow links, but they are only those that Acrobat or Reader recognize as such and are not actually built in links. If you start getting into non-standard URLs that include spaces and punctuation, then Acrobat will not properly recognize the links.

Problems with linking to private content?

Soon after we moved our publically-accessible content into the Public Site Manager, the links to our private content stopped working. Even repeating the "Copy Link" in iTunes does not result in a link that works. I've already posted about our as of yet unsolved problem in this thread:

Problem with linked server...error 7302

I have a very perplexing problem with a linked server.
We are running SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2003. We have two instances, PROD and TEST. Both instances have a linked server to a DB2 environment using the IBMDADB2 driver. Both linked servers are identical. Up until a few days ago, both linked servers worked fine. Suddenly, I started to receive the following error when trying to access the linked server on TEST:
Msg 7302, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_testlinkedserver, Line 1
Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1" for linked server "cm_nw".
I have tried *everything* save restart the server (which is going to come tonight), reregistering the .dll and querying through openrowset (openquery and testing the connection in SSMS both fail). This includes:
1) Recreating the linked server
2) Going into DCOM and modifying the msdainitialize and checking the permissions.
I am logging into the server using Windows Authentication, but this has worked and nothing has changed on that instance at all. I'm in the Administrators group anyway, as is the SQL Server service account, and that group has permissions on MSDAINITIALIZE. There is nothing in the SQL Server or Windows logs to indicate why the linked server cannot be called.
Note the linked server is set up to use a security context (user name and password) and both linked servers are identical in this aspect. If I recreate the linked server without a password and uncheck "Allow Inprocess" in the provider I get:
The OLE DB provider "IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1" for linked server "CM_NW" reported an error. Authentication failed.
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1" for linked server "CM_NW".
OLE DB provider "IBMDADB2.DB2COPY1" for linked server "CM_NW" returned message " SQL30082N Security processing failed with reason "3" ("PASSWORD MISSING"). SQLSTATE=08001

I don't know if that is coming from the SQL Server end or the DB2 end.

I was able to resolve this issue by editing the registry. I imported a registry file called "IBM DB2 ODBC Driver - DB2 X64" from one of my known working servers that has a linked DB2 server installed. So what I'm thinking is happening is that SQL
Server is somehow editing the registry causing it to break.
If you can go through the ODBC administrator and test your connection successfully, than you will know that the problem is not DB2 Connect but it's actually SQL Server.
For anyone that is still having this issue I would look in the registry for any DB2 X64 drivers to see if you have any. If not you can always create the following registry file and call it "IBM DB2 ODBC Driver - DB2 X64.reg" .

Once you've created this file go ahead and create a backup(if desired) of the registry and execute the reg file and restart SQL Server to see if this resolves your issue. If this does resolve your issue I would recommend taking a backup of your registry
in case it breaks again. Keep in mind, other applications may experience issues that have been changed if you revert back to the backup.

Problems with links and the "advanced" field

Has anyone else had problems with the advanced field when
making a new link? It seems I have to edit it three or four times
before it will actually take the link I put in ("
http://www.blah.com/" instead of
"../../"). Anyone else?

I am having the same problem... although I am only trying to link between "One of My Pages" i.e navigation menus.
It is pretty random which links work and which don't as far as I can tell anyway.
The links work fine when I activate hyperlinks in iWeb but as soon as I publish to a folder some of them don't.
I will post if I find a solution, but I have read and tried just about everything.

i have make a database with linked list for a School student counselor.
The to be store is
student name, ID, Counseling Date, Progress
In there there will be record for a student and the Date and progress has to be stored for 4-weeks as the counseling is on weekly basis. These data items will be multivalued(what u say in Databases) how i can store this repetitive data in linked list for one student.

Problems with linked ComboBoxes

It's been 3 days since i'm having the same problem :
I have 2 comboboxes in a JPanel, and the things to be displayed in the second one depends on the first (for example selecting 'Hewlett-Packard' in the first combo box display all HP model in the second one)
When i select a item in the first combobox, an actionPerformed is fired, and i can populate the second combobox. Unfortunately, the combobox disappear in my panel, but if i click on the place where it used to be, the popup list display correctly... !
I just want to know hox can i make it visible anyway. I've tried combobox2.repaint() method within the actionperformed method (combobox2 is the name of my second combo box as you've guessed), but it doesnt work...
Something else too : in my first list, if i select another vendor, the list in the second is not removed, but the list of workstation of the second-select manufacturer is appended... I've tried here the combobox2.removeall() method, but here again, no results....

that makes sense now was driving me mad as I couldnt find anything saying it wasnt supported, makes sense seeing as its a flash server. Annoyning thing was it was playing in the content viewer locally when I previewd the folio you would think that would not be the case if it was not supported. Im going to try the rtmp links in a player in a web page and view it on the ipad out of curiosity and ill let you know. Out of interest have you done anyting with imported html into indesign as part of your folios ? I havent as yet but am curious to know how it holds up ?

(Go to the Express Edition forum at Oracle Database Express Edition (XE) and give them some hints about what the problem is. )
At the very least you will need to tell people: operating system, browser, whether you have Firewall turned on, whether you are using anti0virus, whether yo have upgraded the Application Express interface.
You can volunteer that information, or you can wait until people ask for it, but you will need to provide that information. And if you force people to ask - it's quite likely they will get bored with your problem.

Problem with link in SWF file

for the site building I'm using the software iweb - on mac.
the site is almost complete but i have 1 big problem.

I'm using a head menu in flash
i have this flash from some template i downloaded from the internet and all i had to do is change the buttons names and to change the links of the buttons to point to my html pages.
and now to the problem :
to get to the problem in general - the flash head links don't work
if i press it in the site on godaddy nothing happens i just don't see the flash head and instead i dee a page that says something like "the page can not be found"
if i go to my desktop to my site directory and press the links the only thing that happened is that the button is changing the color like I'm in the right page but I'm still in the original page.
and the strange thing is that by if i only open up the SWF file and press the links are working
and it's open up my browser and to the right page

Hi. It looks like your code is not finding the mp3. At least,
I can reproduce your error code by removing the mp3 from the
directory, or renaming it.
Btw, if you test with FF instead of IE, you'd see the error:
Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2032:
Stream Error.
at KZFlash_fla::Sound_2/KZFlash_fla::frame1()
