Problems with mac book pro display

it's happen to me twice already, when it goes into sleep mode and I try to get it out of it the image gets all scramble and I have to reboot the computer manually meaning I have to hold the power button because everything on the screen is scrambled. Does anyone else out there have this problem or is this something that I should maybe worry about and return the laptop.

on one of your original install discs (prob the second one) there should be a utility application on it somewhere called 'apple hardware test'. you can run it (I think you need to boot from it, there should be instructions) and see what it tells you. there's a shorter test and an extended test, which can take some time but is worth doing. it literally will go off and test every single RAM module one by one, every CPU and bus element, the graphics card, video and sound ports, thermal sensors and fans.. the works. so when you run it, it will make your fans kick in to top speed at some point, and it will also display all sorts of coloured bars and so on as it tests your graphics card. this is all normal. it'll take a while, last time I did it on a G5 I think it took quite a bit over an hour, but that machine had a lot of RAM installed. at the end it gives you a report listing all of the tests and the results. it's by no means going to find any possible problem, but it is certainly a good diagnostic tool if there are serious hardware issues. it's prob one of the first things they would run at an apple authorised service centre if you brought your machine there.
good luck.

  • Problems with mac book pro (os x 10.5.8)

    g'day
recently i have, for me serious, problems with my mac book pro (os x 10.5.8).
discovered that it runs slower and somewhat unstable, i attempted housekeeping and burned large files on cd. furthermore i deleted some files i do not use to trash from 'application'
now once i turn on straight i get a garbled screen with tool bar on top.
if i start with installation disk 1, i get to the complete start-up and is operational.
upon opening the 'dock' to open safari for example - comuter freezes for a few minutes with spinning rainbow wheel.
    what might be the problem?
    did run
    - safe start-up - no change
    - disk utility - all ok
    - hardware test - all ok
    - extended hadrware test - did not work
    - activity monitor - cpu - user 16%, sstem 4%, indle 87%
                              - system memory (2 gb) - free 850 mb, wired 172 mb, active 970 mb, inactive 51 mb
                              - disk usage (185 gb) - 135 gb used - 50 gb free
what else can i do? anone encountered similar?
would truly appreciate our kind assistance
    thanks a lot

Insert your OS installer disk and reboot while holding down the c key. Select Utilities>Disk Utilities. Then run Repair Disk on your ard drive.

  • Battery problems with mac book pro

I just bought a mac book pro in March 2014.
Since there, when I put the machine in the sleep mode , next day the battery is over..
I already tried a chat with apple and I couldn't solve my problem...
After that I took my machine in apple store, they tried to solve my problem , and they couldn't.
I left my computer there and I picked up after some days...
And my mac book continues with the same problem since the first day of use
    Thanks for your help

Sounds like this Apple article might help:
Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity
Note the article has one section that has not been updated to reflect a change in Mavericks. In step 3, the  Show" window is gone. To select "All Processes" as required, use Activity Monitor's view menu:
Once set according to the instructions, tell us if Activity Monitor any processes are using more than about 10 percent of the CPU cycles.
NOTE: This won't tell you much if you do it right after a restart. Use the computer normal for a half-day or so after a restart. That gives time for any bad actors to start working.

  • Problem with mac book pro

I just bought a new mac book pro. it has just been 2 days when I started getting a message saying that I need to restart my computer. My computer will just hang (and a dim light on the screen will appear with the message). The message is in the middle of the screen (in diffirent languages). Since i can not do anything ( i can't cancel the message, etc.), I would restart my computer. It usually happens when I'm connected to the internet (wi-fi). But one time, it happend even if I wasn't connected to the internet. Why is this happening? Is there something wrong with my new mac book pro?
    please help.

don't bother reinstalling yet. It could be a hardware problem with the logic board. Try this:
Open up your hard drive and navigate to the following location:
Macintosh HD -> Library -> Logs
Find the 'panic.log' file and double click on it. It will open up in the 'Console' application. Look carefully though all of the text and see if you can locate a line similar to the following:
"panic(cpu 1 caller 0x00351082): mbuf address out of range 0x750208"
If you see this line, phone Apple and tell them that you've been told by an Apple engineer that your machine could possibly require a logic board replacement. Let them go through their usual checks with you but insist that they allow you to send them your panic.log via email. By looking at the log they will instantly be able to tell you whether or not your board needs replacing (under warranty, of course).
Let us know how you get on

  • Stefanofromarezzo, problem with Mac Book Pro

I have a Mac Book pro, very often is going very often in crash and I'm obliged to shut-down forcedly and restart. anyone have a suggestion for me ??? thank you !!!!

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • Problem with Mac Book Pro not sending error reports to Apple.

Every time Safari or Firefox, or any other application crashes or I have to force it to quit, I get an error report and when I click to send it to Apple I get a message saying it failed and cannot send to Apple. Anyone know what's going on? I have a Macbook pro (15 inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009).
Oh, and my Safari is Version 5.0.6 (5533.22.3). Think it's time for an update?

Thank you! Seems weird that they would even offer it if they no longer accept it.

does any one know how to fix a problem with my book pro that has a gray screen with a folder with a question mark on it?

Hello Mokhtary123 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
It will help us diagnose your problem to know the exact model, size, year built, RAM installed and OS you're running.
    But basically your system can't find the boot disk. Usually this is a symptom of a dead/dying/corrupted hard drive;

  • Is dragon speak family version compatible with Mac book Pro?

I received the dragon speak software recently and was wondering if it was compatible with Mac Book pro. Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Works for me.
It's not as good as the Windows version though. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives.

  • My camera Nikon D800 don't work with Mac Book Pro retina... Why ?

Somebody Know why my digital reflex Nikon d800 don't work with Mac Book Pro retina ?

I shoot tethered which requires that the D800 be recognized by the laptop.
However, I just figured it out. Nikon changed their USB protocol so that the D800 doesn't show up as a mass storage device.  That said, the d800 IS recognized by image capture and be computer in general, just not like previous Nikon dSLRs.  If you're tethering via Lightroom make sure the Nikon tethering plugin is enabled (which it may not be if you previously shot tethered with Canon).

  • Seagate plus compatible with mac book pro

Is seagate plus compatible with mac book pro and how do I know its backing up, where can I see the backed up files?

    Hello and welcome.
Click on the desktop - next to the Apple click  on "Finder - in the drop down menu click on "Preferences" - under "Show these items on the desktop" click on Hard disks and External disks. All disks inside the computer and connected outside will appear on your desktop. The external hard drive will be orange in color.
When you first connected that Seagate it should of asked you if you wanted to use that drive for Time Machine to backup to.

  • Cinema display with mac book pro 15" using bootcamp

Hi all, thank you in advance for answering my question. I just got a new mac book pro 15inch with the new cinema display, i am gonna use bootcamp to install windows vista, y question is will i still be able to use the cinema display when i am in windows system? thank you

I have the same set up, but I must be doing something wrong, because when I set up the monitor to mirror the laptop the 24" LED screen is blurry and bright. When I have it set up as dual view the 24" LED screen looks good, yet, I have to drag everything over to the larger screen.
How do I set it up as primary screen? Or make mirror screen work?
    Thanks!!!
