Problems with Magic Mouse (Mountain Lion).

No matter what settings/gestures I use in Mouse Preferences, double-clicking doesn't work and scrolling doesn't work.  The only features that work are single- click selection, right-click shortcut menu and two-finger sideways swipe to switch desktops.  The problem began in my old iMac and seems to have been trasnferred to the brand new machine when I migrated.
Two different magic mice show the same behavior so I suspect it is a hidden setting or perhaps intereference (my wireless hub is only 24 inches from where I use the mouse...)

Has/is/does APPLE ever weighed in with a response to this issue?  This is certainly not the Customer Service oriented APPLE I have dealt with in the past.

  • Problems with scrolling after mountain lion download.

I just downloaded mountain lion today and ever since the download I am having issues with the scrolling for my magic mouse and trackpad. My problem is when I scroll down on my mouse or trackpad it actually goes up on the page and vice versa. I have seen others have had some scrolling issues but not exactly the same as mine. Just wondering if there is any known fix for this problem? I did the PRAM reset and also the SMC reset and that didn't fix the problem unfortunately.

Look in System Preferences > Trackpad (or mouse) > Scroll & Zoom tab > uncheck Scroll direction: Natural.
The scrolling direction has been changed to a technique where your push the screen up or pull it down, takes a few days to get used to.  The swipe directions will also be affected by this change.

  • Problem with Mail in Mountain Lion -- reply all function

Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion in Mail when I hit reply all my email address is included in the cc line, so I get sent my responses.  Any one else having this problem or know how to fix it?  This didn't happen in previous versions.

re: "like on my iMac, when it sleeps, it doesn't fetch email anymore like it did before Mountail Lion"
First, this really should be in a seaparate thread.
What is happening, just like my MBP, is that ML is *actually* sleeping properly. For as long as I used 10.7 on my MBP, it appered to be sleeping, but it really was not (screen black, etc.). And yes, mail would still come through.
Now with ML, it sleeps like it is supposed to sleep, and mail is not received when asleep.
Nothing wrong, no bug, just working properly now.

  • PROBLEMS WITH JAMVOX AND MOUNTAIN LION ?

I USE THE JAMVOX GUITAR INTERFACE WITH MY MACBOOK PRO. EVERYTHING WAS WORKING HUNKY DORY AFTER UPGRADING TO MOUNTAIN LION...BUT THEN, AFTER ABOUT THREE WEEKS, IT JUST STOPPED WORKING. EVERY TIME I TRY TO START THE PROGRAM NOW,  GET THE SPINNING MAC "WAIT"  BALL. IM SEEING ON VOX'S WEBSITE THAT OTHERS ARE ALSO HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. HAS ANYONE FIGURED OUT A WORK AROUND ? MANY THANKS FOR THE HELP.

I am truly disappointed in the new operating system, is there anyway to switch back to OSX Lion and perhaps get my money back?
Why do you think that is the normal performance for Mountain Lion?
First thing to try is boot into Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key on restart.
It will take a little while to boot as it runs some disk checks. Once it is done, it will show the login screen. Log in and try it out. If everything seems normal, you likely have some third-party software that is incompatible with ML.
If it is still messed up, boot into the Recovery HD (cmd-r on restart) and Repair the disk using Disk Utility.
Restart and see if there are still problems.
If so, I would reinstall ML and see if that fixes the issues.

  • Problem with Magic Mouse

I have just installed Lion onto my 27" iMac (3.2 GHz Intel Core i3) which i bought about six months ago.  I really love the new OS.  My only gripe is that when I scroll down with two fingers the screen goes up and visa versa.  I have looked in settings and cannot seem to find a solution... and yes the mouse is the right way up!  If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Just as a quick addition, I poped into my local Apple store today and they explained that the way the Trackpad and Magic Mouse were set up by apple was to feel like the iPad and iPhone, which now makes sense (scrolling up pushes the screen down and visa versa), so although it feels unatural it is the way it is supposed to work.  They advised trying it for few days wnd then see how I get on. Actually just knowing this makes it seem to work.

  • Problems with Bluetooth mouse following Lion upgrade

I upgraded my MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion, this morning, and now my Kensington Bluetooth mouse, which I have been using for nearly 2 years, has stopped working. The upgraded MacBook now only registers a connection with the mouse if it is held within about 10cm of the system, but even then it doesn't respond to any movements of the mouse. I have previously been using the mouse quite happily from a distance of about 50cm.
Is this a known problem associated with Lion?

Well, after 2 days of completely refusing to work, the mouse suddenly requested Bluetooth pairing, and has worked ever since. I don't know why it took 2 days, though.

  • Problems with mail in mountain lion

I installed mountain lion and since doing so I cannot get past the migrating data window when I try to open mail.  I have tried deleting the envelope index (although I can't remove it from the trash as it continually says it is in use).  I have also tried moving the smartmailboxes.plist and backup files to my desktop but still no joy.  Can anyone suggest what to do next?
    Dan

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
    Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

  • Problems with iMac since Mountain Lion upgrade

So , several problems that I have experienced since upgrading to Mountain Lion.
    1. When I "log off" off my iMac from the top left "apple" symbol, I get the rainbow wheel of death.
    2. When accessing YouTube home screen or yahoo in Safari, the page is a white screen. Nothing more, nothing less.
            *  I have been reading some people saying that this happens to them too, but only when using an account with parental controls.
    3. Hard drive "grinds" incessantly.
            * I have never even seen the rainbow wheel or heard my hard drive grind on my iMac untill this upgrade.
Anybody know of any solutions, or also having these issues?

For anyone else having the "white screen" issue with youtube, and/or yahoo issue. I seemed to have repaired the issue. I turned the parental controls off for both of my kids accounts, restarted my Mac, and the problem vanished.
I also turned the parental controls back on after this, restarted the computer, and the problem came back.
*** This is 100% a Parental Control/Mountain Lion glitch. Hopefully Apple knows and is working on a solution. The sooner they fix it, the sooner I can turn the parental controls back onto my kids accounts.

  • Problems with OS X Mountain Lion installation

What to do? This message keeps on prompting on each attempt to install os x mountain lion. "This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading." Even after deletion of the os x and re-installation, the same message keeps on prompting. Thank you for your help.

Try repairing your hard drive.  If the hard drive is corrupt, that could be corrupting the download.
If that's not the problem, it could be that your internet connection is bad, and is corrupting the download.  Try a different network.

  • Safari update - problem with magic mouse

Hi all, I recently installed safari update to 5.1 (6534.50) on a mabbook pro OS X 10.6.8. Ever since update, I've been experiencing the problem with safari reloading pages and kicking me out of websites that use flash player (back to log-in screen). I can deal with that by using another browser, however the update has really messed up my magic mouse. At first, every time I put my macbook to sleep or shut it off, the mouse would stop responding when I woke the mac up. I would have to disconnect the mouse and reconnect. But this was really eating up my batteries, so this morning I shut the mouse off when I put the mac to sleep. Now it won't connect at all. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Thanks Carolyn and Barry,
I did what Carolyn suggested - moving the .plist file into the trash. I have not resetting the PRAM or SMC yet.
When I go to system preferences>Bluetooth, I get a screen that says:
Bluetooth power is off. To use Bluetooth, first you must turn it on. (Note - my mouse is turned on)
Both ON and DISCOVERABLE are checked.
In the middle of the screen, it says No Devices (Set Up New Device...)
When I select set up new device, it finds my device and attempts to pair but is unsuccessful.
Resetting the SMC and PRAM scares me. After reading the links that Carolyn provided, I remembered another weird issue I had with my mac shortly before the update and mouse issue. For some reason, my clock suddenly became out of sync and I was on a 2000 date. I got an error message and reset the clock manually. Could this be the cause of my mouse issue? I feel like every step I've taken to get my mouse working again has made the problem just a little bigger!
    Thanks again for helping me!
    Judy

  • Problem with Magic Mouse pairing

    Hello Apple Support Communities
I have used a Magic Mouse for some time, maybe now an year. But I started having this problem today.
When the Magic Mouse did not connect with my MBP, I removed the mouse from the Bluetooth and tried to put it back.
But the Bluetooth Setup Assistant is saying that the pairing did not work, and asked for a passcode or a different pairing method.
    Here's a screenshot:
Also, I tried using the System Prefrences and click on mouse to set up my Magic Mouse, but it said the same thing; pairing failed.
    Here's a screenshot:
Is there any solutions to this problem? I hope that you can get me an answer fast, as I use Magic Mouse a lot with my MBP.

Not knowing what machine you have, it's age, and its current OS X and version doesn't help people help you.    Please could you fill in your profile.
Do you have, or know someone who has a wired mouse?
