Problems with Mail and Outlook after IMAP attempt.
I tried to set up an IMAP on Mail on my MacBook Pro, so I could have my Outlook Web Access emails relayed through my mac. I got it to where I could receive email on Mail from my OWA account, but could not send. (had something to do with not having the proper outgoing web server name.) So I just wanted to scrap the whole plan. I deleted my OWA account from Mail and it currently shows nothing there. However, now my OWA account isn't working properly. It will send emails just fine, but will not receive them. I think those messages are still being routed to Mail somehow.
Please Help, I need my OWA account for work. Thank You
I have followed the steps outlined to uninstall Office 2011, but when I try to reinstall the software I get an "installation failure" error. I'm still in limbo without access to necessary applications.
I've been reading the Microsoft forum for Office 2011 for Mac but haven't found anything helpful yet.

I'm running OS 10.11 and am having some consistent problems with Mail and Safari on my MacPro Dual 2.66. Here they are:
Sometimes, for no apparent reason, selecting these applications from the dock no longer opens the application (or a new window if already opened), but causes them to be revealed in the finder.
In Safari, when this problem occurs, another symptom seems to be that new windows will ONLY open in a new tab, even though I have preferences set to open links in a new window. If I click on a bookmark within a folder in the bookmark toolbar, Safari will open ALL the bookmarks in the folder in new tabs!!
In Mail, when I open my Inbox, clicking on various messages will highlight (in blue) ALL the messages I'm clicking on, instead of simply displaying the highlighted message in the reader.
The only way to get things back to normal is to reboot my machine, which is getting to be a total drag, especially since this seems to happen fairly often.
One other thing that may be related- if my screen saver is running, and I move the mouse to go to an active screen, the computer will "freeze." It stays like this indefinitely- I figured out that if I press the button on the machine itself it will go to sleep, and I can wake it up and then everything is fine, but I don't understand what's going on.
I have tried using Disk Utility and Disk Warrior, and have used OnyX to clean out my system cache and aall sorts of other stuff, but to no avail.
Is anybody else experiencing any of this? I'm starting to get really frustrated. Thanks for any advice.

I had posted earlier that I had Flash payer problems and then QuickTime and PDF preview problems too, on my Intel PowerMac. I could not figure out what the problem was, because fixing permissions and moving plugins did not work. Console indicated that the Quicktime components were not found, with the problem in a webkit pref file somewhere (nil field value). Anyway, I bailed and reinstalled Leopard from a 10.5.0 DVD, and then updated using the combo updater to 10.5.3. Everything worked. Then, after the 'Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 1', it all broke again. This time, repairing permissions resulted in:
User differs on "System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4.2/Home/lib/jvm.cfg", should be 0, user is 95.
User differs on "System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4.2/Libraries/classlist" , should be 0, user is 95.
Now it all works again. This is obviously a flaw with the Java update, and also somehow Disk Utility did not find it earlier. Anyway, take a look at reverting the Java update, or manually changing user for those files (I suppose user 0 is root, but maybe it is nobody).

It's my first time in this forum.
I have a problem, with Rescue and Recovery, after installing Norton Internet Security 2010 on my T43.
The message I get it:
"Rescue and Recovery is unable to back up the file 'C:\Documents and settings\all Users\Application Data\ Norton\ 00000082\00000109\000003c1\cltMLS1.bat' Because the file is either corrupted or being used by another application. Please close any application that could be using the file.
I tried to close the Norton but I couldn't find how.

the reason for this situation is, that the antivir files are protected from being modified.
This is the reason, why this file cannot be backed up. I assume, that you would get much more such messages, as there are surelly multiple files files, that are protected like this.
So the solution is to block folders from being archived. Please start RnR application and in the configuration set this folder as the excluded one.
This will skip the backup of this file and will fix your situation.
Please let me know, if you have covered this.

Problem with mail for exchange after update on E72...
Hi everyone,
I updated Nokia E-mail to ver 3.9 on E72. Now I am facing a problem with mail for exchange. I have configured gmail on mail for exchange. I recieve a warning that "unable to sync contact administrator if problem persist". It started to pop up just after the update was over and is very frustrating. Even previously i used to recieve mails instantly but now it generally takes half an hour for me to recieve them. I deleted and created mail for exchange several times but to no avail.
Also i am not able to automatically recieve mails other emails which i have configured. every time I have to manually download them everytime.
Can anybody suggest a way out.

Problems with email and SMS after 1.3.5
Let me first say that I love the Pre. Up until this point it has been perfect - I have a replacement, but that is because I dropped it (wrong angle, wrong location, broken screen). However, following the 1.3.5 update I'm now having a fairly important problem with email and sms - I can receive email and messages, but not send them.
I have two email accounts. My personal account is with earthlink. My work account goes through an ISP using the domain name of my employer. I'm not using Microsoft Exchange or Outlook. I have tried deleting and reentering the accounts and that did not work. I can receive messages but get error messages when I try to send.
The same for messaging. I don't use it very often. But yesterday I get a text message and tried to respond and got the error message.
I power the phone off every night because I have a landline and use that as the primary phone at home.
I have been looking around message boards trying to find a fix for this. Has anyone had this issue and resolved it?

I found a fix for the email problem, in posts on precentral and this board from a few months ago. The info came up in a Google search, and not searches of the boards, which is kind of frustrating. Here is the info, and the link. I really wish Palm would put info about this work around on their site, or at least make it easy for people to find. The solution is the last message in the thread linked below:
Had the same problem. Checked with Earthlink - no help. Checked with Sprint - no help. Checked with Palm - no help. Here is what finally worked:
Delete the earthlink account and start over. When you do - this is the key - set up the account manually! If you use the Pre defaults and try to change the settings it will not correct the problem. Your settings for outgoing mail must be:
"smtpauth.earthlink.net"
Use Authentication set to "on"
username is your email address
your email password
port set to "587"
encryption "none"
Again, the key is to set up manually.

Random problems with Mail and ACL
Am running 10.5.2 on a 2.8 GHz Intel iMac
Have been experiencing problems with Mail.
As I'm the only user I've set up Mail Preferences so that a password isn't required every time. However, on occasions, but not always, I get a repeated request for my password - on two of the three Mail accounts I have. No matter how many times I key in the password I keep being asked again. The only solution is to shut the computer down and come back to it sometime later when - most times - it works fine.
I have an iPod Touch which lifts mail off my server, via the same wifi connection and it works fine.
Then I had a problem where I couldn't quit Mail. I rebooted several times but Mail continued to refuse to Quit. I had to do a Force Quit every time.
I've tried repairing permissions. Takes ages then get the following relating to ACL's.
Whilst I've been using Macs since the mid 80's I'm not a techie and haven't got a clue what ACL's are or what they do.
In the past when I've (regularly) run Repair Permissions as part of my system housekeeping I've had no problems.
However, now when I run a Permissions repair this is what I get:

Permissions repair complete
After a reboot I ran Permissions Fix again, several times, every time with the same results?
I went into into System/Library/User Template but the folder has a "no entry" i.e. red circle with white horizontal bar. I clicked on this but get message I don't have sufficient access privileges.
I'm the only user and admin.

The Mail app is requesting my password - again and again.
The odd thing is that I have a three email accounts - all set up with the password stored in Mail Prefs so I don't have to enter each time - but only two accounts give me problems.
The other strange thing is that when I boot up the computer first thing in the morning and check my mail there's rarely (if ever) a problem.
I leave the computer on during the day then check my mail again after lunch - when the computer has been 'sleeping'. It's usually then that I hit a problem. Even rebooting at this stage doesn't always work. It's as if my iMac needs be shut down for several hours to work consistently.
Something else I realised yesterday was that when the computer has been sleeping and I check Mail (in the afternoon) and Mail starts requesting password over and over again - and the black whirly hovers over the account - its often impossible to do a simple Quit on Mail. I have to do a Force Quit.
First time I've ever experienced such confusing problems with Macs - and been using them since around 1986! -
Problems with mail and MSNm in certain networks
Hi,
I have a problem with my MacBook Air (OS 10.5.5) when connected to certain networks. Compared to my Dell laptop with XP in the same networks, I get the following issues using my Mac:
- Cannot receive or send mails using Entourage.
- MSN messenger wont work.
For both services I get the message that it doesn't seem like I am connected to Internet. The same applications (Outlook instead of Entourage) works well with my Windows laptop.
In addition to this, the Internet connection with my MBA is really slow.
I have the same issues with both Wifi and ethernet connection, and both in my University and where I live in a student apartment. However, it works well in a Starbucks for instance.
If anyone has an answer to my problem, I would really appreciate it!

What are the specific Incoming and Outgoing server settings for that Gmail account, and what is the exact text of the error message you get, if any? Is this a POP or IMAP account? When did this start happening and what did you do just prior to this problem starting?

PSE9 - problems with tags and Outlook. Was working fine Friday!
I had PSE8. Would no longer print or use Outook on Windows 7. Kept having to revert to a restore point. Purchased PSE9 and installed 2 days ago. Worked perfectly. Used my original keyword tags, printed and sent email via Outlook without a problem. Turned on the computer this moring and tried to send email and the program crashed and crashed and crashed. Also, now I have a bunch of boring keyword icons instead of the one I have chosen on all my photos. They are organized correctly but the icons are not the ones I chose which are listed in the organizer pane. There was some kind of Adobe update and this morning I had to go to a restore point in order to be able to email again. I have been having this issue for over a month now since I started using Windows 7. The only program I have had any problem with is PSE!!!!! After installing PSE9, I deleted PSE8 and things were still working fine 2 days ago. Am not happy and am sick of spending my precious time dealing with PSE on a daily basis.
I did assure that Outlook is set as my default email program before I posted this.

After the Mail Update 1.0 in Maverick I stil had problems with my passwords and with syncing my mail acoounts (google, icloud and my provider), Finally I removed Avast Antivirus and ..... all my problems are gone. Everything is working fine now. Avast is incompatible with Apple's new mail client!!!
Hello is anyone from Adobe out there? Is anyone from Adobe monitoring the forum? The 1.6 update has stopped the app from crashing when you were trying the sync function to the creative cloud.
However, the sync function is not working as it did in the past. If you make a change in an already existing file in the Photoshop touch app and save it, the sync to the creative cloud results in an explanation point instead of a check to the left of the filename. Toggling the sync button on and off doesn't change the exclamation point to a check. The blue line goes across the file as it normally would when syncing but the explanation point remains. As a result, the changed file is not being synced with the creative cloud.
I am not sure of the exact amount of time it takes, I am guessing about 24 hours. After about 24 hours when you do a sync, the file that had the explanation point to the left of it does change to a checkmark. However, you now have two files. One that reflects the change and has the word conflicted now added to the file name. As well as a file with the same name that doesn't reflect the change and no conflicted added to its file name.
For me at least the sync function no longer causes the Photoshop touch app to crash. However, the 1.6 update also doesn't sync properly to the creative cloud.
Making a change to a file in the Photoshop touch app and trying to sync it shouldn't result in the file not being synced or in a conflicted file. Could someone please help me in regard to this issue. -
Multipul Problems with Mail and MSN Messenger
So here is my story. A couple of weeks ago i installed Leopard to my powerbook. it all seemed to be working ok. I went overseas for 2 weeks, had my blackberry stolen, so i had to change all my email passwords. SO, now my mail program won't connect to my email accounts. I changed the passwords in mail for my hotmail and personal email account but it says it can't connect. My MSN Messenger also won't connect. It seems like some type of firewall problem, but i have no idea how to fix it. I have check my settings under security and repaired my permissions.
Any thoughts?I'm not having any problem with Gmail at all.

Problem with itunes and iphoto after time machine restoration
After an apocalyptic type meltdown in my hardrive the other night, I now have a new one. I have restored as much as I had backed up using time machine when I turned my computer back on for the first time. However in iphoto it lists all the different albums I have, but all the photos come up as grey squares. They are definitely on the computer as you can see them in the iphoto originals folder in the finder window.
A similar problem with itunes. My itunes library is totally blank, with no songs whatsoever. However the songs are there in itunes music folder.
How can I restore everything back to normal?

There are separate sections for iphoto and itunes.
It has to be so complicated because Apple made TM to do too much and be too many things to too many people.. a horse designed by a committee. It has become flakey in later editions.
If you still have the iMac you can move the files directly from the source.. you don't need to use TM backups at all. -
I am having a problem with the Java plug-in and Microsoft Outlook 2003. When I have Outlook running, going to certain websites (like cbs.sportsline.com/collegefootball) will crash my browser (IE). I get a message like this:
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.

There is much more to the error message which appears as a text file on my desktop. If I close Outlook and try to go to that same CBS site, it works just fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?In Window, the dlls are not private to one
application. They are logically shared. Not true in the sense that would affect this. DLL Text (code, read-only data in some cases) is shared. DLL Writable data is NOT shared between apps - each app gets its own copy of the data pages.
However, it's possible that when Outlook runs, it interacts with IE (which has deep tentacles into the system) in such a way that when Java calls into native IE code, it is affected as an innocent bystander.
Make sure you also install all the Office patches. If that doesn't help, try upgrading your Java VM to the latest version (you are using the Sun VM, right?). -
Problems with mail and address book
Hi,
I need help with my e-mail. When I try to add receivers the program jams up and the round colourful thing indicating "thinking" starts to spin. Does anyone know what could be the problem? This thing happens every time when I create a new message and try to add receivers. I have had this problem about two weeks now and it is very annoying.
Please help!3 suggestions:
1. Quit Mail. Launch Font Book. Select All Fonts under collections, and then highlight all of your fonts under Fonts (Edit --> Select All). Finally go to File --> Validate fonts.
Based on the crash reports some have submitted corrupt fonts have been the issue.
2. If that does not resolve your issue, then you may need to rebuild your Envelope Index. Quit Mail. Go to Home Folder/Library/Mail. Change the name of the file labeled "Envelope Index" to "Old Envelope Index". Relaunch Mail and allow it to reimport your messages.
3. Finally, if that does not resolve the issue, then quit Mail. Go to Home Folder/Library/Preferences. Drag the file labeled com.apple.mail.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and see if the issue is resolved.
These have worked for others with similar issues recently. Let us know if any of these suggestions help. Cheers! -
Problems with WRT54GS and EasyLink after adding Comcast Digital Voice.
I had a working network. Cable modem (Comcast), WRT54GS, 2 wired PCs (one XP/SP3, one Vista Home Edition SP1), 2 wireless laptop PCs (one XP/SP3, one Vista Home Edition SP1) and a HP OfficeJet 7210 printer (connected to WRT54GS as network printer). Everything was fine and worked.
Then, I added Comcast Digital Voice. Obviously, they switched the cable modem for a new cable modem with the phone service option. Now, I can't print to the OfficeJet from the wired Vista PC, and EasyLink displays "initializing" for as long as I'll wait (5+ minutes).
I finally have to kill EasyLink from the TaskManager. Any help or ideas appreciated!

Go to Solution.I solved the problem. It turns out the new cable modem and problem with EasyLink initializing were "red herrings".
The problem turned out to be a classic network problem! The hard-wired Vista PC had the wrong IP address. The wireless XP PC had the printer configured by network name instead of network (i.e. IP) address.
When I deleted the printer on the Vista PC and re-added it with the correct address everything worked fine.
Apparently the printer got a new IP address from the server on the WRT54GS after the installation of the new modem. Also, it looks like Vista doesn't report a communication error for a network printer, but does for a USB direct connect.
