Problems with media players

When I go to a website and try to open an (some) images or (all) video it doesn't open. I used to be able to open FOX news and other videos easily, but not anymore. I often get dialog boxes telling me to download the newest "Flash Player 9". So I go the provided Flash Player download site and download the new Mac OS Flash Player and install it. Yet, when I go back to the website which told me I needed Flash Player, it still won't open. I've downloaded Flash Player 9 probably 6 times. I need help.
Thank you.

MPlayer and WMP don't use QuickTime for audio at all. QuickTime Player does, VLC may. If you are experiencing the same sound problems from all of them it is likely to be a system-wide sound setting...
Try restarting, possible zapping the PRAM (command-option-p-r during restart until it chimes more than once then let go of the keys) and also try these...

  • Need help with Media Players, please.

    I have a mid-2007 iMac OS X 10.9.3 (Maverick) still in perfect shape, except for what I may have just messed up.
    I was trying to watch a video on VeeHD and it said that I needed the VeeHD plug-in.  From some research I did, I learned that the newer versions of DivX don't play well with Apple and that older versions worked better.  So, I uninstalled my DivX player (and everything DivX) from my computer and installed the recommended earlier version 14.  I'm still having the same problem.  I use Safari as my main browser because Firefox was giving me problems with loading times and buffering.
    I'm wondering what I did wrong because now, no matter what video content I try to play, I get a gray box with HTML5 in it instead of the usual "Play" button (the triangle).  Once I click on HTML5, it then says FLASH and I have to click that to get the video to load.  Even on YouTube.  No matter what I do now, I can't get this to change back to the way it was and pages in general are taking longer to load and buffer.  I tried repairing permissions.  I'm afraid I may have deleted a plug-in that I shouldn't have and don't know which one.
    Does anyone have any suggestions, please?  I'm afraid I've put my foot in it.  Also, which media players should I have or which ones are the best?  Which one is the best default player?  I have an updated Flash Player, Perian, VLC, Mac Media Player, DivX v.14, FLV Crunch, and Quicktime.  Too many?  Am I missing some?  I watch videos on different sites like Firedrive, GorillaVid, BestStream, MightyUpload, YouTube, etc.,  I've never had any problems until I messed around with my DivX player (the only player I had trouble viewing with, until now.)
    All helpful, constructive suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated!

    That's exactly what it was.  I had ClickToFlash downloaded.  I've had it for awhile and it didn't affect any of my video watching until I uninstalled DivX.  I wonder why.
    Now that I understand ClickToFlash, the only thing I like about it is that it prevents videos from playing automatically when a page is loaded.  But, I uninstalled it and the loading and buffering delays went away.  Thanks very much!
    I meant to click "This solved my problem" on your post instead of "This helped me."  How can I change that?

  • Hal, usbdisk, kde - a problem with /media/* directory

    Hello,
    I am havng a problem with my usbdisk. At first it's mounted at /media/sda1, then during hibernation (kernel23archck, hibernate-scripts, suspend to disk) the script unloads usb modules. When I start the computer again my usbdisk becomes /media/sdb1 and the previous directory becomes empty. Is it possible to force hal to mount my usbdisk always in the same directory e.g. /media/usbdisk ???
    Thanks in advance.
    mdv

    I have a similar problem, when ever I put in an usb pin in mounts it first as sda1, but if I take it out and put it in again, it mounts as sdb1, and sda1 is still mounted in the media directory, so now I have both sda1 and sdb1 mounted, although the sda1 directory is empty.
    Why doesn't hal unmount the usb pin after I take it out?

  • MSI 180 - Problems with Media center III

    Hey,
    I have a problem with the Media Center III. When I want to watch TV I have to make a automatic scan in both Cable and Antenna. It seems that nearly all of my channels are found under the Antenna scan (strange I have Cable).
    Well my problem is that eventhough I set the TV source to Antenna every time the Media center III software have been shut down I have to go into TV -> settings -> change the TV source from Antenna to Cable and back to Antenna to get the channels.
    Anyone had the same problem.
    Please help, how do I get the software to remember the settings......

    Some of the Jet and MDAC files of your operating system may be corrupted. Use a MDAC repair tool from

  • Software Installation Problems with Media Source and Nomad Explo

    Hello Creative Users,
    recently I had to reinstall my operating system on the PC. I have an IBM Thinkpad R30 with a Sitecom USB2.0 pccard. I am running WinXP Pro SP2 with all latest updates.
    I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra with Firmware .20.08 and an update harddri've of 80GB.
    As long as I was running the software on my previous installation everything worked fine.
    I installed the driver .26.02. This recognized the Jukebox. Musicmatch is able to communicate to the Jukebox and recognizes all files on it.
    When I installed Nomad Explorer I got an error ctregserv failed because ctin...dll is not found.
    When I tried to install Media Source from the original disk it showed an error after 30% Media Source not found. Install Media Source before continuing.
    This is what I received now with all verisons of Media Source and Noamd Explorer incl. .30.0.
    Can someone help me as synchronizing with Musicmatch is a pain.
    Thanks
    Rolf

    Hi everyone,
    as I saw many questions regarding installation problems with Mediasource or Nomad Explorer
    in this forum I will answer my own question right here. I was pointed to the answer by a friend with a similar problem on some other software.
    When trying to install the Creative software under WinXP SP2 I happens that the registration does not work. the reason are missing write attributes to the keys for
    Creative software. To correct that go to: Start, Run and enter regedit. Hit ok and you are in the registration editor.
    Find the Creative location unde HKEYS_SOFTWARE. Click right mouse button and choose
    properties.
    Check full access for your user as well the system user. click on advanced and mark both all the users you want to install from. Check the lower box below the user window sayin something about roghts being propagetd to lower folders etc. Cklick conform and ok, click confirm on previous screen and close regedit.
    Now you should be ok and able to install.
    Regards
    Rolf

    Try copying the files on your SD card to a folder on your computer, reinsert the SD card into your BB and proceed to format the card.
    To format the card go to Options > Advanced Options > Memory Card. Press the menu button and select Format Card.
    Plug your phone into the computer again via USB, making sure your device is set to be used as a Mass Storage device. Go to "My Computer" and open your device. Copy the files from your computer back to your Blackberry. Unplug your phone from the computer and see if you are able to open the files.

    hi
    I have an HD video that was shot and edited in FCP, it will be projected using HD projector via HDMI.
    i am looking for a media player that is able to play HD content as I am not so pleased with the low bit-rate of DVD's and cant burn blu-ray yet.
    i don't want to compromise the high quality that i've worked so hard to achieve when i compress to dvd...
    any experience with the various media players that are in the market ? last time i've checked "tvix" can play h264 content but cant play uncompressed...

    Hi,
    When you use "Save As" you are essentially saving the whole project file. Not exporting. So what you need to do export your movie to a format that your media players like.

  • Problems with Media and my Blackberry Bold, is it time for me to give up on RIM this is really annoying

    Hello RIM,
    Over the past year since owning a Blackberry, I have had on-going issues with syncing my music between my (2) bolds, so I know this is not specific to the hardware, I have also managed 400 BB's on a BES before so I have a fair idea of how to do things and troubleshoot issues.
    1. My music many times has sounded severely distorted through my car speakers, with lots of bad crackle that hurts my ears
    2. Transferring media between my device and my computer is actually really annoying and now I can't even find my playlists on Windows 7
    3. This should be seemless, it should not be buggy and I can't believe, having done so much support with your hardware and software that this continues to be a real problem for me
    I have a playbook, 2 blackberry bolds (I had to buy another 1 because Mobilicity does AWS only and Bell was just plain mean to me so I gave up on them).
    I am ready to go on ebay and get rid of this stuff because whilst I mostly use it as a phone (the reason I went with BB), it is important that I am able to do other things with it, without having to go through a dozen articles and issues just to get things to work, these should have been ironed out in the bug reporting process.
    So I have reinstalled both Itunes and BB Desktop Manager, both manually and via repair and tried even recopying over my playlists, this doesn't work.
    I can't believe the lousy support and buggy software, come on RIM, there is no excuses in this market, PICK UP YOUR GAME and update the BDS or I am done and so will the many other people who won't even take their time to write anything about it on here but vote with their wallet.

    Well you know the playbook is actually pretty cool but didn't seem to be ready to go out on time and being a late entrant to the market I would have expected them to showcase the playbook better, especially like how Nintendo gets out there and gets everyone playing with it hands on, there are some things about the Playbook that actually make it unique but it has been poorly marketed.
    Unfortunately getting BDS and everything to work properly should not be an issue, I have already spent thousands of dollars on hardware and my phone provider, what am I actually paying for here? So I will spell out some things that make the Blackberry Playbook special and what I would have been pushing had I been in charge of marketing. Firstly I would have had a few different campaigns going, one that targeted business corporate customers, regular business customers and the public that use them as their choice of smartphone and open to potentially buying one.
     1. Flash works really great, come on blackberry, why couldn't you team up with Facebook on this one? Facebook looks better on a Playbook than any other tablet I have seen, in fact the web looks better in general.
    2. Stereo speakers(dual), movies sound great, music sounds great and so do games, in this area, Playbook has the upper hand.
    3. USB & HDMI out - Allows much easier portability of presentations and transferring of files and now I believe there is the Wifi Sync as well.
    4. Blackberry Bridge - You know it's like RIM got backed into a corner on this one, but you know, I think this is the most secure way to operate a tablet, I love how when I turn off bluetooth on my bold, my personal and private information is removed and I can pass it to friends and family without my personal communications being looked into, with the other tablets, it's pretty hard to have different people on them, without probably creating different profiles, with the Playbook, you could share it between a team and it would seamlessly operate between them.
     5. True Multitasking - You know, you can play music, whilst playing a game and you can switch between applications, this funtions pretty awesome. I put on some cool music and loaded up a game on the device and someone whom had an Apple device was sincerely impressed he could listen to music whilst reading or playing games etc. This could also enhance Business Presentations that require audio in the background whilst displaying and going through different information / files or charts.
    6. QNX OS - I mean wow Blackberry, this Operating System is fantastic, I love it, this was an EXCELLENT choice and this I will give you 5 stars on, I can't wait to see what QNX can do on the Blackberry and I would not be surprised if the QNX OS became a major OS against the others, it definitely is polished and apps just install and are ready to go in no time.
     RIM has been ahead of the game and because of it's great name with-in business circles they have almost sold themselves and whilst it's nice to see that RIM has sold over 250,000 units with-in the first week this could have been drastically improved by realizing when getting into a NEW market, they need to do the proper marketing and get the devices out there with subject matter experts to educate people whom are checking them out so they can share that information with their friends.
     Google paid a very large price with their Nexus One because they where over-confident and thought they would sell based on their name alone, this could have been a learning curve RIM did not have to deal with. There are actually other nice things about the Playbook, the apps that are in their app store are pretty cool and when Android apps are available it will be cooler.
    I like the size of the tablet I can comfortably reach accross the screen to hit all the keys on the digital keyboard making it any larger and I couldn't hold it in my hands with the same comfort; copping out to apple fan boys thinking they must have a 10.1" tablet is not necessary, this is the perfect size to sit in your hands, some people think they are small but if they actually watch a movie or play a game on it or look at websites by "Playing with it themselves" they will react differently and actually suggest if your going to do a 10.1" tablet, also keep the smaller sized one as well.
    Suggestions :
    - Working on building in more extensions for gaming such as Unity so that games like battlestar galactica online etc could be played online and directions could be replaced by using the gyroscope.
     - Hire more people if you are having problems meeting deadlines, these companies, including Apple are taking risks to win the market, if your going to take a swing at your competitors, please make it a punch and not a jab, the biggest thing you still have on your side is the market you already had and the market share you have been losing and since we all upgrade our devices so often at this time, come out with something special and we will continue to support you. Okay now that I have that off my chest I feel better. DAMMIT !

  • Printing problems with Flash Players 10.1 and 10.2

    I'm having problems when printing "lengthy" reports under Flash Players 10.1 and 10.2. (By "lengthy" I mean 15+ pages, but it seems dependent on the content of the pages.)
    Symptoms: On OS X with Safari (with debug Player 10.2) I get timeout errors. On Windows with IE (regular Flash Player 10.2), the system crawls to  almost a halt, heavy CPU and memory usage.   With Firefox on Windows, the Flash Player will crash. A user with Player 10.1 on Windows also reports The Flash Player crashing in Firefox (he has 8GB of RAM).
    The reports print fine under Flash Player 10.0
    There was an earlier post here about what seems like the same issue. (http://forums.adobe.com/message/3486765)
    There is a bug report (https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-6087), but so far no response from Adobe.
    I'm surprised about how few reports there are about the issue, which makes me think it may be my code. (But it worked under 10.0.)
    I'd be interested to know if others are experiencing the problem.
    Better still, if anyone has any tips on how to resolve the issue.

    This is rediculous.  I have an application in use by thousands of students, and their teachers are supposted to be able to print login sheets for their classroom.  This was functioning fine for years, and now with the latest player upgrades, it's failing to print or printing only a few of the total pages.  I'm even seeing it print one additional page each time... first successfully printing 3 pages, then 4, then 5, when printing with adobe acrobat to PDF.  What happened?  What is this talk of timeouts when printing?  I'm not getting any error messages, it's just completing the file and displaying the PDF with only 4 of the 15 or 20 pages that Flash should have sent to the printer.

  • Problem with media encoder and re-opening projects

    Dear all, I'm a newby and I'm having a very strange problem.
    I've made my first premiere project and all seems ok in the preview. Then I've tried to exported it in avi using media encoder. This is a 1024x682 color movie, 25fps, duration about a minute. Avi export setting was xvid compression, and after a long wait (10 min) and nothing started, I've re-tried with divx. After some more time, media encoder blocked and I needed to put it down with windows task manager. Then I closed normally premiere.
    After re-opening premiere I've selected the saved project, but it do not open and a message appear (in my language, so I'm trying to translate): "Impossible to open a sequence of the project. It was not possible to associate any sequence preview file or codec to this kind of sequence."
    Moreover I've tried do create some other simple projects but none of them can be opened!
    More info: Premiere pro CS4, Win XP sp3 32bit, PC AMD64 3200+, 3 GB ram.
    Inside project: a couple of avi non compressed video and a couple of jpg still images. And some transitions and text. Background music. Very simple.
    I hope you can let me know how to get back to my project, and also to export in avi. Help! Thanks!
    Addition:
    PS: maybe the codec error I attach can be the cause? How to solve?

    Unfortunately, both Sherlock and G-Spot do not see the Adobe MainConcept CODEC's correctly. Adobe uses a naming convention, that they do not understand, but it's done to "hide" those CODEC's, so that other programs do not overwrite them.
    Now, there have been reported instances, where a full-paid version of PrPro has "reverted" to the trial version. The trial version cannot do anything with regard to MPEG.
    In those cases (do not know the causes), the fix has been to uninstall CS4, run the Adobe Clean Script CS4 several times, rebooting between each run, then installing CS4 again, then updating it. This has worked in every case, that I can recall.
    What caused the full-paid versions to revert is a mystery to me, and I have yet to hear of the cause.
    Sounds like your full-paid CS4 now thinks that it's the trial version. The steps above should get it fixed for you.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • MicroPhoto - Problems with Media Explo

    Hi,I've had my 8GB MicroPhoto for about 8 months now and I have trouble using the Zen Media Explorer. On My laptop, which uses Windows Vista, I cannot access any of my media files (which includes Music, Playlists, Photos etc...). The page freezes and the window does not close. I can however access photos and music and whatnot if I access the files through My Computer, but I can't sort or edit them. Also, while importing music from CDs, the track information that appears is not in english, but?in strange symbols, some which appear to be chinese, and some that are clearly not. Finally, when trying to access my music files on another computer with Windows XP, I can open my photos/music/ect., but when I open the folders, the tracks that appear inside are not those which should be there. For example, if I open a folder which reads "Radiohead' I'll get tracks from all over my player, seemingly at random. I know I have a lot of problems and I'd greatly appreciate it if someone knew how to solve even one of these incredibly irritating glitches. Thanks,Lisa.

    <FONT face="Tms Rmn" size=2>
    Regarding the corrupted DB problem, it may be due to some of the Microsoft Jet and Microsoft MDAC files of your operating system being corrupted. Use a MDAC repair tool from:
    http://www.macropool.com/en/download/mdac.html
    The above tool has fixed the problem of MediaSource's corrupted database problem for many users. You may want to try it. If the above did not work for you and your operating system is WinXP SP2, you may want to uninstall WinXP SP2 and re-install WinXP SP2 to repair it.

  • Problem with media print styles in debug versus nondebug mode

    Hi,
    I am trying to debug why the same page (and code) will print one way on one server and another way on another server. These servers are a dev and test server with the same version of cf 9 installed.
    I am working on a page that has two divs floated left next to each other.
    [div 1] [div 2]
    We had problems printing this setup in IE 8, so I created a CSS file for media type print that removes the float from div2.
    So in my page I have:
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../common/main.css" media="screen"/>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../common/mainPrint.css" media="print"/>
    In main.css the class is:
    .documentArea {
          margin: 2.5em 1em 0 1em;
          float:left;
    In mainPrint.css the class is:
    .documentArea {
          margin: 2.5em 1em 0 1em;
    On the Dev server, I am able to view the page correctly in IE and it prints correctly with div 2 below div 1:
    [div 1]
    [div 2]
    When I move the SAME code to the our Test server and view it in the same IE browser, the display of the page is correct but the printed page only displays div 1 and not div 2 at all.
    After some investigations, I discovered that the the print CSS worked when debugging was on and not when it was off. We turned on debugging on the Test server and the CSS worked correctly for printing. I also changed the name of the style to my name (leslie) and it still didn't work. I thought perhaps a default style in CF might be overriding it.
    I am wondering if there are default CSS files in ColdFusion.
    If you have ANY suggestions as to what is happening I would greatly appreciate it!
    Regards,
    Leslie

    Just to clarify ....
    If the ERROR_CODE parameter is made an 'OUT' parameter instead of an 'IN OUT' parameter the correct return value is given for the OracleCommand invocation but the WRONG value is still returned for the EF Model invocation i.e. just changing the parameter from 'IN OUT' to just 'OUT' does not fix the problem.

  • Problems with music players in Safari

    I love myspace.com, and purevolume.com. Both sites play music. When I was using dial up, with AOL as a browser, I had no problem getting the music...it just took very long. Now, I have wireless through a local utility company, and I use Safari as my web browser. Now, when I go to these websites, the players do not work. What happened? Is there a setting in my preferences I have to adjust? The player in myspace is called Standal one player. I'm stupid when it comes to the web, and getting computers to work...someone please help me!
    thanks

    so here is the answer to my own question. after doing a bit of clicking and reading, I figured out that these websites use Macromedia Flash player version 7. AOL I guess comes with this program, and Safari doesn't, would be my only explanation. So, if you are having the same problem, go to the Macromedia Flash Player website and download it. Version eight is out right now, and works great! Happy listening.
