Hi,
I am having problems with text in all caps when the text contains accented letters (éèàù) they are not rendered as accented caps but in their original format.
It is funny because some smaller programs less professional like iWork handle that fine?
Any suggestions?

I am still having problems with my music videos freezing (all purchased on iTunes) since the update. The first day of the update, no problems...played 6 hours of music videos and no freezing. Today...every single video froze!!! So frustrating! I rebooted, restarted, powered down and no help. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

As for question #2, you call tell how iTunes is sorting songs by the up or down arrow next to a header name.
Even the original order that the songs were entered or date added or last played can be sorted.
Much easier with a mouse or touch pad. -

View Solution.Hi - Does it print slowly from all applications or just certain ones? In either case, you can try following the steps in this document.
In addition, try going into Control Panel, Printer, right click on the printer and choose Printer Properties. Click on the Advanced Tab and select Print Direcly to the Printer.

I am having problems with my Magic Trackpad. All I can do is move the cursor and single click. I using the most current version of Lion.
In System Preferences > Trackpad > your preferences should look like this screenshot. If they don't then some 3rd party driver is conflicting. The most common conflict is USBoverdrive.

Problems with Greek accented characters
After the update to AIR 2.0.2 I cannot input into any application greek with accented characters.
Tried TweetDeck and Twhirl and neither work (used to before the update)
Is this a bug or it needs some configuration

I'm using Adobe AIR 2.0.3 on Windows machine. I wrote an app in Aptana Studio (build: 2.0.5.1278522500) with ExtJS library and I found the problem with polish national characters like ż and Ż (all the other national characters like ą, ę, ń are possible to input).
In order to reproduce, here you have the sample code in ExtJS:

As you will see - it is possible to input ż and Ż in text fields.
Now, use the same code to build AIR applicaton and then run the application. It is not possible to input those characters in Air window. Right Alt+z acts like undo operation - it removes last entered text. All the other characters work fine.

Problem with Spanish accented characters in some sites (e.g. "é" shows as "eacute")
Spanish accented vocals are not being shown correctly at some pages of a site that I use often (https-based online banking). Note that not all pages at that site show this problem.
On the problematic pages, all accented vocals are shown as a combination of the "&" character plus such vocal (unaccented) plus the "acute" string.
For example:
"Información" shows up as "Información" ---> note that "ó" was replaced by "ó"
"Débitos" shows up as "Débitos" ---> note that "é" was replaced by "é"
I tried many Unicode & Western character encoding options, including UTF-8 which is my default option, with no improvements (actually, using any encoding option different from UTF-8 breaks those pages that previously worked fine at that site).
Note that this happened even before I installed the DownThemAll! extension.
Internet Explorer does not present this problem.

Problems with Upper Case Letters on Keyboard
Suddenly my keyboard will not print a capital i. in fact, if i use the caps key, it won't even put the letter i in either upper or lower case. When i put the caps lock on, can get a capitol 'I', but once the cap lock is off it is back to the lower case i again.
is there anything i can do to correct this, without taking my computer keyboard in for service? i broke my neck about 3 weeks ago and i am house bound for the next 5 weeks.

im having the very same problem even though iv only had my ibook g4 for just under 5 months. i believe that puts me still under the 1 year warrenty for the computer itself. will they still replace the keyboard if this is the case. if they decide not to do so. i was wondering if anyone here new the part number for the keyboard that is easly installed on the g4 ibooks. if anyone here knows anything on the matter please feel free to email me on this.
as most people can see, i also have a power mac g5 desktop, otherwise called a cheese grader. if you know what i mean. theres very little i dont like apples computers. thats probally why everything in my house is mac related. having 3 ipods, 1 g4 ibook, a power mac g5, isight cam, and lots more. the point here is in the event people are trying to decide what kind of coomputer there wanting to buy. several things need to be considered before you should go out and buy one. obviously price has alot to do with your choice, but in that decision you must also consider whether or not the computer has teachnical type issues. is the company well known for having lots of problems. will you be able to get the technical support you need in the event there is some major problem with the computer that you may be inquiring on. having the apple care protection plan on all of apple's top computers is the single one thing that people dont think about when buying a new brand name computer. i cant tell people enough that buying this apple care plan is vital to the survival of you and your new computer. an extra $200-$400 is well worth the expense down the line. -
I am looking for anyone in the west Tennessee area using Wild Blue along with Apple IMac who is having a problem with their screen going complelely white every so often. Have had the maching into the Apple store in Memphis. They could not get it to fail. Help
TutorDaddy, if this Mac is still covered by the initial warranty or under AppleCare, take it in and have it looked at. As the old label used to say, there truly are "no user serviceable parts inside." Kernel panics very usually indicate failing hardware.
I have an older iBook G4 that started developing kernel panics and like you, despite reinstalling the OS from a freshly formatted volume, they kept continuing. I looked at the crash log and saw that in each instance of panic, the last bit of code to be accessed had something to do with AirPort. Knowing that the AirPort software was at then current levels, I surmised the problem to be a bad AirPort networking card which, on that particular model of the iBook, was a very small module attached directly to the logic board. Since the computer was out of AppleCare, I broke the machine down myself (I didn't realize that there could be so many barely visible screws in one machine) and removed the offending piece of hardware. My iBook lives but without WiFi, it now sits as a more or less desktop machine needing an ethernet connection to stay connected to a network.
I do not suggest you break into your iMac. First of all, I'm guessing one would need to be able to pull off the glass and have the necessary glue to reattach it, which is not really available to us consumers. If you're feeling adventurous enough to read the crash logs from each panic, you might be able to surmise the hardware component (or badly written application or library; it can happen) that's causing the panic. If it's a software issue, remove the offending software app and see if the panics return. If it's a hardware issue, it's best to let a competent service tech qualified on Apple hardware to handle it.

Problem with displaying any picture at all.
Hi there, one of my iMacs has a problem with displaying video.
When I turn the computer on the screen shows a yellow-orange hue in the centre, and it's getting wider across the screen and bright, eventually it turns to a white screen. Now I know for a fact it's nothing to do with the logic board! I can control the computer with remote desktop and dim the screen or make it brighter. My question is, is it the cabling that is faulty or something else?
If it's the cabling, how can I open the chrome neck and change it?

There are components within the border of the iMac G4's display which
may affect the image as they wear out and/or fail. The inverter, is one
item that is in the panel along with the backlight and liquid crystal layer.
Removing or replacing the wire harness between these components,
the computer base and LCD panel, is a bit of work. This topic has been
addressed in these forums at one time or another; and a few owners
who contribute here have experience taking these apart. In the past,
getting a known-good display with chrome arm and harness, from an-
other iMac (perhaps one with logic board failure) and combine two,
was an answer when the complete display & arm were known good;
as this saved a fair amount of work on the upper end. Still, taking the
lower orb shape apart is a significant task; to have it work right again.
The cabling could be faulty; the inverter could be. And there may be
yet another associated component failing which produces symptoms.
Taking apart the chrome arm may not be such a good idea; I've seen
the expanded view of one taken apart by a metal cutting saw, and it
has a big spring inside, and a bit of tension. There also are friction pad
parts inside that loose their ability to hold up the panel, so some owners
sought to replace those to varying degrees of trouble.
There should be a few step-by-step instructions. One of the contributors
to the iMac G4 forums here was Mr Totes; one of his web pages had a
few images of take-aparts he'd done. Other sites had basic stuff, such
as replacing optical drive and hard disk drives, thermal paste, RAM, etc.
If you were able to see the correct system images from a second display
via the VGA adapter cable, in mirror mode, the attached unit certainly is
suspect; and the computer is probably repairable. Otherwise, there is a
video component on the logic board not considered a separate part; and
if that fails, the usual fix is to get a reman logic board or another iMac.

Problems with input accented characters after moving JInitiator to JDK 1.5
After upgrading from JInitiator 1.3.1.18 to JDK 1.5.0_06 (jdk plugin in IE), the input of accented characters (in our case portuguese) isn't working anymore in text areas on the forms (Forms 10g).
So, if you push first the "´" key and then the "a" key, you should get as result "á" (worked correctly with JInitiator), but after upgrading to JDK 1.5 you will get simply a letter "a".
Pressing Alt + 160 shows correctly "á".
Somebody can give a clue about this problem please?
Downgrading again to JInitiator is no option for us, as we need a more modern JVM (for a Dicom viewer applet we developed), and IE crashes if you have an Oracle form running with JInitiator, and then try to open another IE page with an applet requesting JVM 1.5 ...

Problem with East European letters such as Č, Š, Ć...
Hello,
I am from East Europe, and in my language there are letters such as Č, Ć, Š, Ž, Đ. When creating SMS message, and first time when some of those letters appears, 91 character of sms message is used for it, even I choose Reduced Character Support.
For example:
- at beginig i have 160 characters for one SMS message
- if I type letter Č, number of characters is lowered to the 69 (!!!!)
At earlier versions of software for my phone, all of those letters (ćčšž) were problematic. With this latest version, the problem remain just with letters Č and Đ.
Is there any solution?

Scanning problem with HP Photosmart Wireless e-All-in-One B110 series
I have installed the captioned printer with my iMac.
The printing and the copying functions are fine, but the scanning function simply cannot work.
I have tried scanning photos to the computer using the available software, i.e. iPhoto, Preview and Image Capture. However, none of them worked. The following error message kept popping up:
The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device.
Try the following steps. After each step, try scanning again
- Restart the program.
- Close all programs that may be using the device.
- Reboot the computer.
I have tried all the steps, but the problem remains.
I have also tried to use the scanner directly through "Print & Fax" in "System Preferences". Whenever I clicked the "Open Scanner" button, the screen showed the message "Trying to open scanner session..." and then ended with the message "Failed to open a session on the device."
Could someone help me solve the mystery? Thanks a lot.I had the same problem when I had installed the HP software for that printer on a standard user account on the mac.
After I had uninstalled it and installed on the standard user account and installed the software on an administrator account on the mac, it worked.
