Wow! That is crazy. I've been using a Windows formatted iPod on my Mac for many years without a problem. But just recently, I have the same problem as the original poster. Sometimes I connect my iPod to my Mac and it does not mount. Rather, the iPod acts as if I plugged it into a wall powered USB cable. It charges, but does not mount. No sign of the iPod on the Mac. If I unplug it and try again (and maybe a 3rd time), the iPod finally mounts.

Although my music appears somewhat OK on my IPOD, when I try to listen via my computer(windows vista)when I click on the song, it says it cant find the original music. When I go to the music folders, some music appears and some does not. Also, some of my purchased music is missing and when I sync up, all of it does not get back to my iphone and library appears to be worthless on my computer...HELP Please

I recently upgraded from itunes 7 to itunes 8 on my windows XP PC. That's when i had issues syncing my 2nd gen shuffle.
When i try to drag songs directly on it, itunes says i can't
I made a playlist and use auto fill. But when I remove it from the dock, it's either not updated, or the new songs are at the bottom of the playlist when they are supposed to be up higher. I end up having to hit auto fill twice to make it sync correctly.

384MB of Ram (works really good)
USB 1.1 connection
Pentium 4 clocked at 1.285 GHZ

unchecked options: open itunes when ipod is attached, Sync only checked songs, convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC, Enable sound check, Limit MAX volume, enable disk use
All those are NOT checked. Sometimes i enable disk use for seeing the IPOD_Control folder, but either way it still messes up.

This is a well-known issue. Apple changed the internal file names used with iTunes 8, which makes the ordering on 2nd generation Shuffles behave differently. There is no good workaround, apart from moving the files with a hand-crafted AppleScript program.

When viewing my albums through cover flow, it shows Cease To Begin as two separate albums, one with only Islands on the Coast, and the other having Islands on the Coast with 3 other songs. If I delete the album with only one song from my IPod, it deletes the song from the other "album" as well. If I go to "All Songs" by Band of Horses, it only shows one Islands on the Coast, so it is not a duplicate issue. Also, in Itunes, it only shows one album. My iMac crashed as I was importing some pictures. When I restarted it said there was a problem with the library and it needed to be repaired. After the repair I find that when I open Aperture I get an error message:There was an error opening the database for the library “/Users/samswallow/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”. I quit that and Aperture closes. I have reinstalled Aperture and it makes no difference. All my photos are still there in Aperture Library Masters and can be seen in Preview. I would value any help on this.

Did you do a repair or a rebuild? And did the action complete normally?
I would do the permissions repair then the library repair again and if you still get the errors do the rebuild. Note before doing the rebuild you should have a backup of your library. While it rarely happens rebuilds can make things worst.

Before itunes 7, my tracks were in order that they appeared on the album, now they are in alphabetical order. Is there a way to make it go back the way it was before the update--in order by track number?

I was having the same problem and I knew there had to be an easy answer. I knew it for sure when I saw your topic unanswered. Just right click, or control click on the bar where it says name, album, genre, etc. and select "track number," this will give you the option to put them in their original order.
You can also access this under "view options" in the view pull down menu.

I'm currently using iOS8.0 on my iPhone 5 and have had problems with music deleting frequently and my phone freezing when I try to re-download it. for some reason it's only letting me have about 70 songs at any given point, but if I have more than that then the next time I open the music app I tend to find a lot of them have been deleted? This is incredibly irritating as I frequently use my phone for music, also whemever I'm downloading songs it tends to freeze my phone and I have to restart it.
I've tried updating to 8.2 but it's not letting me currently.
Any suggestions?

Problems transfering music library from RealPlayer to IPOD

Just bought the 80 gb IPOD. When I transerred my music library, which is very large and (unfortunately) on RealPlayer, many of the songs are cut off when I play them on the IPOD. They still work fine in RealPlayer on my computor. But the IPOD cuts out (and goes on to the next song) when there is approximately 15% of the song left to play. Very strange.
More key facts: 1. library is about 68GB. 2. All of the library was originally saved using the RealPlayer software. 80% of the library is in the RealAudio format (.ra extension); the balance is with the MP3 format. The songs that cut out on the IPOD are all ones that were saved with the RealAudio format. The ones with the MP3 format work fine on the IPOD. So, 80% of my songs on the IPOD end early 3. Most of the songs were saved on the then-current RealPlayer version during 2004 or 2005. So it was not ancient technology. All was saved at 192kb/s whether it was in MP3 or RealAudio format. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Problem uploading music to my ipod nano 4th gen with this new format

ever since the new itunes format, I'm having problems upoading my music library to my ipod Gen 4. I plugged in my ipod, brought up my library & uploaded a few songs; But all of the sudden my library disappeared & album covers showed up & could not get back to my playlist to upload more songs. would someone Please let me know how to navigate this?
