Problems with my K8N Neo3

Hello all,
My first post in the forum and it is because from Saturday to today I'm facing a problem with my great motherboard
http://us.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=170
The issue never happened before and the problem is:
- I turn on the computer
- I can hear Beep+bep+bep+bep
- Then i can't use the computer
But sometimes i can continue as normal...
This is very rare and the computer was working excellent for about 4 years until Saturday  :( ... so please help!
thanks in advance

I tend to believe the VGA card is not the problem because last sunday at night my bro tested my card in his PC and all was working fine, no beps, no resets, no problems at all... what if the problem is in the AGR slot?
unfortunatelly no friends with pci-e video cards...

Same solution, switch to PCI-E video card.

Dunno how we can help with that, go to some computer repair service then and let's test spare parts for you.
Or contact to reseller about it.

  • Problems with MSI K8N-Neo3 and Command Queing.

I had some problems with two computers, based on the MSI K8N-Neo3 mainboard - they wouldn't boot into Windows after installing the drivers for the graphiccards. Before the breakdown of the forum, some people suggested that I was using to small PSUs. In the meantime I've solved the problem, by disabling the Command Queing feature in the drivers. Seems there may be a problem with the MSI board, and Maxtor SATA drives with Command Queing.
Key system components for the two computers:
    AMD Sempron 3000+
    MSI K8N-Neo3
    1 GB Kingston PC3200 DDR-SDRAM
MSI GeForce 6600GT or MSI GeForce 6600LE graphics
Maxtor 120 GB SATA disk (6L120M0)
    Sony DVD-RW drive
Anyway, I wanna say thanks for the quick answers...

Thats not what I read (assuming this is the same correct model)
    420W double unit
    DC O/P Load Max
    +5V 42 Amp.
    +12V 16 Amp.
    +3.3V 28 Amp.
    -5V 0.5 Amp.
    -12V 0.8 Amp.
    +5VSB 2 Amp.
Agreed that one is 420W, but is that it or not?

  • Is the MSI NX6600LE TD256E incompatible with MSI K8N Neo3 mainboard ?

    Hello people,
I have a very ugly problem here. I have an MSI K8N Neo3 mainboard here, that with PCI Express and AGP slots.
It was working fine for a while, so I dont think the mainboard itself is bad.
Originally, an Inno3D Geforce 6200 with Turbo Cache, was installed on that computer. However, in the past week the owner buyed a copy of Battlefield 2 to have some fun, he also buyed an MSI NX6600LE TD256E PCI Express graphic card to replace the Inno3D Geforce 6200 with Turbo Cache.
I got that PC here today, in order to install the new MSI Graphic card, and also install the game. Now comes the ugly part: I cannot get that card to work in that computer, and I don't know why.
At first I thought that the card was defective, so I took it out of that PC and installed it on my own PC, and the card works in my PC (see signature), and my PC's graphics card works fine on the other PC (the K8N Neo3). Even the old Inno3D card works fine.
Since the card works fine in my PC (I've used it while writing this post), and my PC's graphic card works fine in the other PC, as well as the old Inno3D card, the only thing left for me to think is that the NX6600LE TD256E card is not compatible with the K8N Neo3 board, but that seems too strange for me.
Can any one here tell me if there's some kind of compatibility problems between the MSI K8N Neo3 mainboard and the MSI NX6600LE TD256 Graphic card ?
    Any help is welcome,

    Update:
The card is compatible with the board. What was incompatible with the card, was a little chip in the board (fried) which I didn't noticed during the first inspection of the board.
Curious thing is that it accepted other cards and not the NX6600LE, but in the end, not even my own NX6600 card, or any other PCIe card worked at all. I guess the little chip suffered some kind of damage due to power problems in the place where the computer was. With this in mind, an electrical technician will be sent to the place to verify the electrical installations for problems of any kind, so we can correct them and prevent future problems.
Back to the board thing,  a new K8N Neo4-F board has taken the place of the semi-toasted K8N Neo3 board. Also, and thanks to the hibrid design of the K8N Neo3, we will still be able to use it. The PCIe slot is dead for sure, but the AGR Slot still works well, so we'll use it for traditional desktop aplications, such as word processors, internet surfing, e-mail, document scanning and printing, etc, etc, etc...
Well, that's all. I just wanted you guys to know; so no one keeps looking for an an answer to this (now solved) mystery. For me this case is now closed, so if no one is interested into it, Admins... feel free to delete the entire thread
    Be well you all,
    Edwin

  • 2 'problems' with the K8N Diamond Plus

    Hi there.
I just bought a K8N Diamond Plus and I'm having some troubles installing my system in conjunction to my Decklink Extreme PCI-E ( http://www.decklink.com/products/sd/ ).
    Here's my configuration:
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD64 X2 4400+
    ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA
    Decklink Extreme PCI-E
    2GB  RAM ( 2 x 1gb) Kingston
    OCZ-520 12U Modstream Power Supply
    plus 6 HD's (7200rpm) and 1 DVD-+RW
The problem is, when I try to initialize the system with the Decklink, which it's a PCI-E 1x, it just don't boot. Neither putting the Decklink on the 1x, nor in the 4x slot and nor in the 16x.
The Decklink is working just fine in another system and doesn't seem to be a problem with this card.
I wondered if there's any limitation in the K8N Diamond Plus with working with the ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA plus the Decklink.
    =======================
The other thig is that when I take off the Decklink, the system boots normaly but a message appears while booting: "Not enough space to copy PCI option ROM 00:13:00".
And I don't have a clue about what's going on.
    =======================
Please enlighten me with this questions if possible.
    Thank you very much.
    Greets.
    Igor Bineli

Remove the battery away for 10 minutes, clear CMOS, start the system to load setup/optimized defauts in bios setup. After that, disable all onboard items in bios setup that you won't to use.  Save and exit.
Plug ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA card,  and start your system to check if there is the error message. If there is, borrow another brand VGA card to do a test.
Besides, update your MB bios and driver version to the latest one.

  • Reboot problem with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and 250 GB SATA HDD

I'm having a "reboot" problem with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. After turning my system on it will run without any problems, until I reboot. After a reboot it will always hang after the initial windows-bootscreen. The HDD-light will remain on. If, instead of going into Windows XP SP2, I try to enter the BIOS after a reboot (DEL) the system will also hang (blank screen with blinking cursor).
It started doing this after I installed the Maxtor 250 GB SATA disk. Before, I didn't have problems rebooting. If I disconnect the Maxtor drive I can reboot and enter BIOS and Windows each and every time. Reconnecting the Maxtor 250 GB SATA drive will return the reboot problem. I always have to use the power swith to get a working system again. It's not enough to do a hard reset (this has the same effect as rebooting).
Here are the details of my system:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B)
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester, 2 Ghz, 512 KB cache, stepping DH-D0)
    2 x Kingston KVR400X64C25/512, 512 MB, DDR, PC3200 (2,5-3-3-8 T1)
Asus Radeon AX800 Pro (256 MB)
    PSU Antec Sonata 380W
HDD Maxtor 80Gb ATA (6Y080P0, Pri Master)
    HDD Seagate 250Gb SATA (ST3200822AS)
HDD Maxtor 250Gb SATA (6V250F0 - jumpered in SATA150 mode, the mobo wouldn't work with the drive in SATA300-mode)
Aopen COM5232/AAH Pro CD-Writer ATA (Sec Master)
BenQ DW1640 DVD-Writer ATA (Sec Slave)
P.S. The NVidia IDE-drivers are NOT installed. System is not overclocked.

Thank you for all the replies. Upgrading to the latest Nvidia IDE-drivers did not fix my problem. Moving to other SATA-ports did not help either. Upgrading the mobo's BIOS is not really an option (I'm using one version before the most recent and there isn't anything in the fixlist of the latest BIOS).
Now I've contacted Maxtor for (hopefully) a new firmware.

  • 4 problems with new K8N Neo 2 Platinum

Just purchased by first MSI board after using Abit for years. Why...I read very good reviews on this board but now I wonder if I made a bad choice.
I have 4 problems with this board.
    1.       The PCI slots do not recognize any hardware. I have tried my US Robotics modem and Audigy sound card in each slot and nothing.
    2.       The fire wire port is inoperable. It does not appear in device manager.
    3.       The second LAN (Gigabit) does not function also. It does not appear in device manager.
    4.       Won’t boot with my Radeon 9600 XT graphics card. (Might work 1 out of 20 tries if lucky) It works on my old motherboard. Old 7200 works but has a hard time on cold boot.
All of this hardware still works in my old ABIT IC7-G
    Here is my setup
    Fresh install XP Pro SP2
    K8N Neo2 Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 +3500 (Socket 939)
    (2) 512MB sticks Corsair TwinX-3200LL Slots 1&2
Radeon 9600XT (Currently using Radeon 7200) as 9600 wont boot
    Antec Trueblue Truepower 480W (+5V 38A/+12V 22A/+3.3V 30A)
Board came with bios ver. 1.3 out of box
    (2) Western Digital Raptors 36MB each (Raid 0) SATA 3&4
    Plextor PX 708A DVD RW
Sent an email to MSI tech support and received the following response:
With regard to your concern,  would you please first enter BIOS and Load Optimized Defaults, then save&exit. Also please remove all current drivers for your motherboard and install them over again using the setup CD provided by MSI along with your motherboard? And then please check if in Device Manager, there is any yellow marks, then check again.
If after re-install the drivers the problem still persists, could you please tell us how you connect your HDD to system, and which is your system partition, which can help us analyse the issue. Thanks in advance.
I have done each of these several times with no luck and my reponse to MSI is still unanswered.
Other than all these items......everything else works as I am using this PC to write this call for help.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Download the latest Nvidia nForce3 System Drivers from MSI
1)Download to a folder & Unzip the File (Right Click On it)
    Also get the Following:-
    Realtek Gigabit Ethernet Drivers
    Realtek 10/100 LAN Drivers
Realtek ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers
2)Open Bios & goto Onboard Devices Ensure the following are enabled :-
MAC Lan            (Should be Set to Auto)
    OnBoard 1394
    OnBoard Giga Lan
AC97 Audio (Enable it for Now & Setup Drivers - Easy to Disable it When SB IN)
3)Install the drivers - Try Right Clicking on the Setup - Properties - Compatability Mode - Select Windows 2000 (Some Drivers Especially NVIDIA Ghave been known just to run but not Install This option should help prevent that)
See where you get through that
Note Once everything is up & running ok you may want to keep your drivers upto date by using the Unified Nvidia System Drivers, as they are usually updated quicker than the MSI ones.

  • 3 seprate problems with my K8N Neo Platnium (MS-7030)

    Hey,
I am having three seprate but very annoying problems with my new K8N Neo Platnuim. Two of the problems are audio related and one has to do with my Sata hard drive.
Audio- First of all my audio is reversed and has been for awhile (annoying for games). I also have had a problem with the drivers. I have a stereo hooked up through an optical cable and with the MSI realtek 97 (newest driver) it doesnt work. So Then I tried a different realtek driver from asus site and my optical cable worked but still reversed sound. I decided to go back to the msi driver cuase they came out with a new one and same old problems (reversed sound and no sound through optical).
SATA- Secondly I purchased a maxtor 200 gig hd and tried to install windows xp on it will leaving my windows intact on my old hard drive. Now whenever i try and boot off my new hard drive it says error operating system even if i format it and this windows works on my old hd.
Anyways sorry for my poor grammer and spelling but i would really appreciate some help on these three subjects.
    Thanks

Nobody wants to help me .... I read on a different post that u can only get 5.1 surround sound for movies through optical. You cant even get the sound check to test speakers other then R/L through optical.... This seems rediculus to me!! I have to go through analog if i want surround sound!!! Anyways this still doenst solve my problem of reversed sound or the fact that the MSI realtek driver doesnt work for optical and an asus driver (which i will now reinstall knowing about the fact that my 5.1 surround sound dreams through an optical cable will never happen ) Also my problem with my SATA drive.
P.S. Is it possible to have my audio hook up from the case to the mobo on backwards explaining the reversed sound?
Anyways thanks in advance for anyone who helps me ....

  • Problems With MSI K8N Neo Platinum

Posting some probems I have face and wondering if you folks have experience similar problems. I bought 2 and bot hahve same problems (sold both of it). Another friend of mine have also same problems with the board.
    1. SATA 1/2 don't work properly. I have detection problems using SATA ports 1/2. The comp will not detect my IDE devices and hang at POST screen. Reboot/reset don't solve the problem. I have to turn off and on to get it to work. Problem is only sovled after switching to SATA 3/4.
    2. Network disconnection problem. The NIC will auto disconnect and reconnect back by itself, esp. when under overclocked conditions.
    3. Cannot overclock much using DIMM slot-1 esp. when mem is over 230MHz. Must change to slot 2/3. Even so, I do face BSOD stating an USB driver is the cause of the issue.
    4. Comp will sometimes unable to reboot at FSB between ~210-240MHz. 250Mz and above seems OK.
Now, I am using Abit KV8 Pro 1.1 and it works fine though. No FSB reboot issues. I am using 1.1 with latest BIOS, thus not AGP/PCI lock issues. Hope MSI will fix those problems mentioned ASAP cause my Abit don't work with mobile A64s. :(

Seriously, I have absolutely no idea. It may be a QC problem, it may be a design problem, its may be BIOS or others. The only thing I know that after I jump ship to Abit KV8 Pro 1.1, all these problems are gone. Only problem is that Abit don't support mobile A64s.
BTe, just another problem or maybe over conservative restrictions. When using DDR333 RAMs, the BIOS will not allow you to manually set it to 400. Thus at 200MHz FSB/HTT, your RAM is stuck at 166MHz. Pretty stupid restriction I have to say.

  • Big problem with MSI K8N neo 2!!!

I don't know what it is, but it's a big porblem that many people have with their new K8N Neo 2 Pl motherboard. The problem is that the system freezes and you must push the power button or the reset button.
It happens randomly, when i move my mouse, when i am copying something, when i download something.
I have already updated my bios, with no result. My brother has totally the same specs like me. We bought it at the same time and he has no problems and my pc freezes all the time.
    What could it be?
    specs:
    3800+
    POV 6800 Ultra
    Twinmos Matched 1Gb PC3200
    2 x 160 Gb maxtor Diamandplus 9
    Akasa 460 Watt.
Msi what the have you done with my motherboard?

How does that dual power rail thing work? can one device pull from both at the same time? (i.e. the cpu) if not the 14/15 amps from only one of the rails wouldnt be enough, if that is not the problem, it sounds like you got ahold of some dodgy memory. run memtest86+ from a boot floppy, if it clears 10 hours, well start looking for other culprits. it may very well be the motherboard, but the best way to get help is not to go on a forum dedicated to that manufacturer and start cussing at them.

  • Bluetooth problem with msi K8N Neo4-54G

I buy a msi K8N Neo4-54G and it was said on the box : "MSI Dual-Net Card (World First 802.11g+Bluetooth on single PCI Card)"
dont find any driver or something for bluetooth, but Wi-Fi work perfectly.
I hope someone know how to fix that problem.
    thanks for your help

You may firstly clear cmos and load defaults in the bios, and if it is available, please attach us a picture of the screen which the issue occurred when you hit enter during the its detecting the SATA hard disk. I am a little confused about what you said. Please tell me what changes have you made before the issue took place. I just want to help, so do many other people. But please firstly give us more detailed information.
I did it and nothing! Should I restore the original bios version that came with the mother?
I'll explain the problem: You enter BIOS, go to the disk properties (where says LBA, LARGE, CYLINDERS, HEAD, etc) and hit enter, usually the screen goes blue and shows a line at the bottom of the screen (they are like triangles pointing downside) and 2 seconds after everithing comes back showing the data of the disk ok? Well, now it hangs forever in the "triangles pointing downside" part and I have to restart the machine...
Does this belongs to the issue of the K8n neo4 platinum with the maxtor hdd's ??? The mobo is malfunctioning?
    Please helpppp! Thanks!

  • Stability Problems with a K8N Neo4 System

I just purchased the following system:
    MSI K8N Neo4-F
    Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
    1GB Corsair 2.5 CAS PC3200 (400)
    MSI Radeon x800 256MB
    WD 7200 RPM 80G HD
    Antec True430
    NEC 2500 DVDR
I installed XP Pro and had just about all of my drivers installed when I began to see random lock ups where the mouse and everything would freeze without coming out. I would reboot, the same thing would happen. I reinstalled windows again. Same. I swapped the PSU, thinking it could be that, but no avail. I had the memory in the 2 green slots, which seemed wrong, so I switched it to green 1 and purple 1. I switched the voltage on the ram down to 2.5v. Nothing has seemed to help yet... I'm still getting these freezes, any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    John

I got the same problems. Suddenly there was no response to my keyboard and mouse.
I tested the memory with memtest86, but no problems showed up.

  • The same old problem with temperatures (K8N Neo Platinum)

I have problems since bios v1.0 on my K8N Neo Platinum with temeparutes.
I have installed a Prometeia Mach II St colling unit
I Tested the v1.0 official bios, the temperature was allways -65º full ou idle, what it is impossivel.
In the moment i flashed the bios to v1.2b5, temperature changed to 49º, and I did not move in nothing. The same temperature appears in all bios since v1.2b5. Now I have the v1.4b2 bios
    Sorry the Bad English

Here are the instructions to reflash the BIOS for your K8 Neo. I am currently running ver.1.4 with little problems. My only snafu is the LED for my optical mouse stays lit even when system is off, however I have no RAID, Ethernet, onboard sound, or SATA drives. I have just a simple basic system, and I don't overclock. My board is the K8 Neo Platinum socket 754, with an AMD64 3000+. YOU MUST HAVE A FLOPPY DRIVE CONNECTED TO SYSTEM FOR THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO WORK!.
Flashing BIOS on K8 Neo per MSI. READ ALL instructions before starting.
1.Check your BIOS for flashing protection and disable it.
    2. Know your board model#. a. Open case and find model# on the board between the PCI slots, or b., boot system and at first DOS screen you will see 'W7030ver1.4122101'. This means you have a MSI model 7030 motherboard with BIOS version 1.4 issued on 12/21/01.
3.Download the Bios that matches your motherboard model and version#.(I believe the Neo Plat had two versions, 1.0 and 1.1). I have 1.0. It will be found between the PCI slots. Create a folder on C: drive labeled 'C:\TEST'
4.EXtract the BIOS file to C:\TEST folder.
5.Create a boot floppy. For XP, at Desktop double click My Computer, right click floppy drive, click Format to format the disk, then click 'Create MS-DOS Boot Disk'.
    6. Set boot order to floppy. Hit F11 to select boot device.
    7. Insert boot floppy and restart system.
    8. At A:\ prompt type in the following,
    C:\ (enter)
    cd\TEST(enter)
    awdfl833c(space)w7030nms.130
The w7030nms.130 is the BIOS file name you downloaded to C:\TEST. Keep in mind you're dealing with DOS file names, so you may need to open a DOS window in Windows, and search C drive for the TEST folder and write down the DOS file name of the BIOS file BEFORE you start the BIOS update.
    9. Reboot when prompted. It shouldn't take more than 10 seconds to update the BIOS.

  • Optical Out problems with MSI-K8NS Motherboard Adapter

I have an MSI-K8NS motherboard which came with an extra PCI mount bracket for coax/fiber digital out sound. I just bought a Creative surround sound system set with digital decoder. I hooked the header into where I believe the pins should go into the motherboard and even have a light at the ends of the cable (seemingly has a signal, I presume). I have no idea how to enable this in software, however. The Realtek software that is installed doesn't seem to have any configuration for this digital out, and I can't find a way to use it. I've searched these forums, but still have no idea what's going on. Could someone please help?
    Thanks!
Edit: Ok, so it looks like the SoundManager software needs to be in 8 channel mode for spdif to work. I don't understand that, but at least I got it working. Hope this bit of info could help someone else out!

    Quote
My best guess is because you are running the default BIOS. Try running with one stick of ram just to start with, so that you have a stable enough system to upgrade your bios to 1.3
I tried running the system with a single stick of ram and still the same thing happens
    Quote
did i miss it or have you not mentioned that since your ram is 166MHZ you have changed the memory divider to 166 in BIOS?
When I started the computer up, the motherboard automatically picked the memory modules up as 166Mhz.
    To Paul:
I tried to run the memtest86 several times.  It starts off for a while, then the computer hangs up as pervious situations.  It could just be that the RAM i am using is imcompatible.  I may have to invest into Corsair RAM modules.
