Problems with my usb2.0 harddisc, cant mount it

Hi there!
i have an usb 2.0 external harddisc. it works fine for me a long time. 2 weeks ago i decided to delete windows from my desktop pc an plug in the harddisc to store my data before formatting.
after plug in it again to my laptop i saw only the fat32 partition on my external drive. (the external harddisc is formatted with a 40 gbyte fat and a 120 gbyte ext3 partition). the ext3 partition had gone away! i think, windows deletet it!
with mount -t vfat /dev/sdb5 /mnt/temp i can mount the fat32 partiton
with
mount -t ext3 /dev/sdb1 /mnt/linux it says:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1,
or too many mounted file systems
i tried many things. i put it back to my win2k machine an try ontrack software, partition magic and so on, nothing works. i also try testdisk and other programs for linux, nothing again.
i tried dd and made a complete image of my partition with dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=/mnt/temp/image.dd, but mount -o loop,ro image.dd /mnt/test only says something with bad superblock.
cfdisk /dev/sdb says
sdb1 Boot Primary Linux 115153.92
sdb5 Logical W95 FAT32 44885.36
ls -la /dev/sdb tells me:
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 33 Apr 27 01:01 /dev/sdb -> scsi/host3/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
i dont know what to do now? is there anyway to write back the partition table or the superblock? are there any tools do get my data back out of the dd- image?
it would be very nice if somebody help me.

It could be a corrupted superblock. Did you try an fsck? If it doesn't work you can try to do another fsck using a backup superblock, see the -b option on the e2fsck man page for help.

Problems with External Hard drive, will not mount and errors in disk utilit

i have a powerbook g4 aluminum. i have an external hard drive for it. a simple tech 100gig portable drive, almost brand new. i dont know what happened to it, but one day i was starting my computer up with it attached. it wounldnt fully start up, said "waiting for local disks" so i uplugged the external hard drive. now it wont mount and will only show up in the disk utility of my friends macbook. i tried to verify and repair, and this is the message i got.

could not read boot block (Input/output error)

1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

Hi, hjbugs, and welcome to Apple Discussions. Disconnecting the drive while your Powerbook was accessing it probably caused your problem. It may be repairable using DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro, but if you don't have access to one of those and aren't going to buy one, reformatting the drive with Disk Utility may be the only other way to make it usable again. If it contains data you need to recover first (i.e., data that isn't also stored on your internal HD or other storage media), download the free demo version of one of the data recovery utilities mentioned in this thread and use it to see what is recoverable. If the files you need are recoverable, buy the full version of one of the utilities and recover them.

Problem with WD passport 1TB drive not mounting on OS 10.5.6. Leopard macbook

I bought a new WD passport 1TB external hard drive and formatted it to FAT 32. It was working fine on my macbook (running OS 10.5.6 Leopard) & i have loaded it with files & also been using it on a windows PC with no problems.
I partitioned my macbook hard drive with bootcamp (the WD drive was plugged into the macbook at the time) and now it will not mount. I unpartitioned the macbook hard drive and restarted. I checked in disk utility and it appears there - I eventually got the option to repair the disk and I tried repairing and verifying the disk. No errors are showing up but it still doesn't mount. I now do not have the option to repair or verify the disk anymore, but its still visible.
It is still working perfectly on the windows PC but I want it primarily for use with my macbook. Is there any way to force mount the drive (the mount button is greyed out in disk utility)

That's the hardware problem screen. If the player doesn't connect or enter recovery mode, it is advisable to contact customer support for further assistance.

I am unable to sign in to iCloud because of a problem with the server, but I cant access other Apple services.

I have tried repeatedly to sign in to iCloud but receive a message about the server; however, I can sign in to iTunes and other Apple sites.
Has any one encoutered this problem?

I found the answer for my PC. The login does not work with IE which I noticed was the browser used as the default. But, I opened iCloud.com in FF and everything went smoothly.

Portege R100: Problems with Lacie USB2.0 CD/DVD Burner

Hello all, this is my first post here.
I will most likely be a regular here as i have just purchased an R100.
I'm having some trouble with an external drive i purchased specifically for the R100,
its a Lacie CD / DVD burner, model number: 300819EK.
This unit can be powered by AC or by using two usb ports.
I'm using two usb ports.
The R100 recognises the Lacie, and in the device manager list, the drive is then
listed, but it is listed as a Toshiba drive.
I'm assuming this Toshiba drive is the external drive you could purchase to use
with the R100.
The Lacie drive does work, but it seems the R100's preloaded CD / DVD
drivers are conflicting somehow and is making using the drive very hit and miss.
It often gets to around 20% of an install then hangs.
Is there an alternative driver i can download that i can overwrite the toshiba
drivers with?
Being so close to having the Lacie 100% functional means there is obviously a
way of overcoming the problems.
Hope you guys/gals can shed some light on this for me.

You will be very lucky if anyone will be able to give you some precise explanation about that. I can just tell you the follow: the fact is that this model is created and tested to work with compatible Toshiba external devices. Because of that Toshiba built in all necessary drivers into preinstalled operating system. It should help fast and quick drive recognition and also installation.
It does not mean you MUST use Toshiba drives. Of course you can use what you want but only problem can be when you try to install OS. Toshiba recovery image contains drivers for Toshiba drives and recovery procedure will work without any problem because the external ODDs will be recognized immediately.
I recommend you to visit Lacie support page and check if you can find some driver there. Toshiba has nothing to do with it if you use some third part product.

I have new motrerboard MSI k9 neo and a64 3200 and ati 1600 pro 256 mb ram. when plug box usb 2 do not have picture. I install newest drivers and msipvs3.

Problem with my USB2.0 HDD enclosure

I have just found this solution over at the Mac OS X Hints forum. The solution was posted dpr on 04-13-2006, near the bottom of the thread, which confirms my original suggestion.
Basically the USB port is not supplying enough power for the drive. You need to plug in an external power supply. Personally, I have a small third party power supply specifically for such drives.

Are you trying to use the phone in Bahrain with a supported carrier there? I suspect not. If you try to use this phone outside of Bahrain, you won't have FaceTime. This is done to prevent folks from simply crossing the border to purchase iPhones in Bahrain...FaceTime is banned in Saudi Arabia & the UAE. Sorry, but you'll only have FaceTime on that phone while using it in Bahrain on a supported carrier's network there.
