Problems with new Audigy driv

<p class="MsoNormal">I have just installed a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum Model SB0090 to replace my old SB Li've. When upgrading from older Audigy drivers to the latest drivers available on the Creative support website, I find that they cause serious problems with my 4. digital speaker system (Boston BA7500G). With either of the newest drivers installed, when I adjust the volume using either the Creative Surround Mixer or the Creative Remote Control, it causes the rear speakers to stop working. Closer investigation revealed that moving the volume slider in Creative Surround Mixer had a strange effect in Windows Audio Control Panel. Upon opening the Speaker Volume tab in Windows Audio Control Panel, it revealed 8 speaker channels (suggesting that it detected the Audigy card as a 7. when in fact it only supports? 5.). When I moved the volume slider on the Creative Surround Mixer (in either direction) it had the effect of moving all but three of the speaker volume sliders in the Windows Audio Control Panel (Right Channel, Left Channel and Channel 8) to zero, with the result that the rear speakers stopped working. Inm other words, Windows was insisting that the speaker setup was 2. and not 4. as in the Surround Mixer selection. ?It made no difference if either or both of the checkboxes ?Synchronize with Windows Control panel? in Creative Audio Console or ?Move all sliders at the same time? in Windows Control Panel were checked or not. This problem is present in both SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000.exe and SBAX_PCDRVBETA_US_2_8_000.exe. It does not appear to be present with the older driver SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006.exe, so for now I have rolled back to that. In fact, with SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006.exe Windows Audio Control Panel only shows 2 channels in the Speaker Volume tab; Left Channel and Right Channel, but all speakers in my 4. system work and the controls in Creative Surround Mixer and Remote Control all work fine. I would like to be able to take advantage of the fixes available in the two newer drivers but they cause me serious problems. Can anybody help? Finally, the presence of a beta driver on the website suggests that a newer version is coming soon. I wonder?if this issue be addressed with the new driver.

I have some problem as you with new drivers SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000.exe and SBAX_PCDRVBETA_US_2_8_000.exe. Only in my case I use SB Audigy and headphone 5.. Always when I check 5. in Audio Console it reset to 2.. I can set 2. or headphone only.Message Edited by AlkaliX on 09-3-2008 09:53 AM

  • Problems with new Hard Drive

I've just fitted a 250Gb Samsung hard drive to my MacBook Pro. I'm trying to do a clean install of OS X from the DVDs. I've partitioned the new drive to a single partition using disk utility and whenever I verify it or try to install OS X it gets stuck on "Checking Volume Bitmap".
    Any ideas?

New drives often need extended preparation:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
If you continue to have problems then either the drive is defective or it is not properly installed or it is not compatible with the MBP.

  • Restoring backup problems with new hard drive

Recently had to replace my hard drive (OS X Tiger 10.4.10). I had backed up iLife, iTunes and documents using the Backup utility (saving to external hard drive) and iDisk, so thought all would be well. My new hard drive has the updated OS (Leopard 10.5.5) and I cannot work out how to retrieve my stuff.
The Time Machine application obviously has no memory of my backup plans, and 'Backup' doesn't seem to exist, so I can't follow the restore instructions on that application. I can see that iLife and iTunes have been backed up on my external hard drive - I just can't see how to put the contents back. I have re-installed iLife and the iTunes application is ready and waiting.
My iDisk is completely empty - which means something is wrong or I completely misunderstood the point of it...
    Any help gratefully received

    Hi Lupe!
If you post the exact model number of the Seagate drive, I'll give the jumper setting a look to see it there is a limitation on setting to "slave." I wasn't aware anyone was doing that.
As near as I can tell, the basic problem is that the first-gen 733 QuickSilver does not have support for "large hard drives." That means that 128G is the maximum it can deal with. You can use the 160G drive, however, by using Disk Utility to create a partition of under 128G, say 125G, leaving the rest of the drive unformatted. Then it should work. Select the partition format as Mac Extended HFS+ Journaled.
Your G4 is older than the ones that this forum covers, thus the difference in hard drive capacities and also how hard drives are jumpered. You may want to make friends with folks in the forums for older G4s here:

  • Digital output problem with new Audigy 2 driv

I updated to the 02.08.0004 drivers today and everything seemed fine till after I calibrated my speakers within speaker settings. I have Z680s hooked up to a Audigy 2 PCI card using both digital out and analog. As with previous drivers I calibrated using 6 Channel direct input.
Anyway, the problem is that when I use windows media player or any other media app, with the speakers set to Coax input (digital) I get the sound coming from the rear 2 speakers, instead of through the front 2 as it should. However, this only happens if I choose a speaker calibration under speaker settings.
It's a bit annoying because I didn't have this problem before. Anyone else have this problem or a solution? Or is it a case of Rolling back to an old driver and hoping the problem doesn't stick?
    Thanks

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Boot Problem with new SSD Drive on CQ60-409SA

I have just replaced my HDD with a new Sandisk 120GB Extreme 11 SSD.
All went OK with no problems installing Win 7 Ultimate and much faster search time, etc..
The problem I have is that when I boot the laptop from cold, i.e switch it on for use, the SSD is not recognised and I just get a Black screen with Flashing cursor top left corner, but if I then press Control-Alt-Delete, the system Reboots, and then boots into windows no problem.
I am trying to find out if I can Access BIOS Advanced Options, if I press F10 during boot I only get Options like Change Boot order, and not more Advanced Option to change Drive parameters, etc... and F2 does not run Diagnostics for SDD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am very pleased with the performance increase the SSD drive gives to Windows and Boot itme except for having to boot twice.

    No worries.
What year model is your notebook?
About your request for the Advanced options, unfortunately that is not possible with a BIOS supplied by HP.
You can, if you don't mind taking the risk, go to a BIOS Mod forum and look for a modified BIOS for your notebook there. The modified BIOS will have advanced options.
Have you tried the Solution and Update finder on the Support download drivers page for your notebook? It says that it will find missing drivers.

  • Ata problems with new dvd drive. [SOLVED]

I just bought a new dvd-burner. At the first boot I noticed a lot of messages along the lines of:
    ata2 exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen
and an extremely long boot time. 3 to 5 minutes. When finally booting in to system the drive seems very sluggish to mount. Should I disable sata and pata in mkinitcpio? Is my new hardware crap?
Its a Samsung Writemaster DVD-burner btw.

  • Problems with new hard drive installation

Our hard drive died, so we replaced it with a 250 GB Seagate Barracuda ATA HD. I used my 10.2 disks to install the software and system (after my husband installed the HD itself - I know nothing about the wiring and how it all works). I've done software update online, which brings me to 10.2.8. Now, I'm trying to use my CDs and DVDs to install any other applications I'd purchased, such as iLife. The disk icon appears on my desktop, but when I double-click it the installation does not launch. Then, I tried clicking on my installed applications, and they weren't opening either. I put an Apple Hardware Test disk in and rebooted, and my mouse wouldn't work to click on the "run test" button. What does all of this mean, and how do I fix it? Could the HD be installed incorrectly? This leads me to yet another question: when I replaced this HD with the Seagate, does my computer still have a SuperDrive? Sorry for so many questions in one post. They all relate to starting from scratch and re-installing everything with this new HD. Thank you for your help!

now, I had iPhoto open flawlessly and my install DVD for iLife seems to be working fine (installing Quick Time now). I have no idea why it took a few re-boots to get these items working. HMMMM... Assuming all goes well, my only question now is whether or not I still have a superdrive if I replace a dead hard drive?

  • Problems with new hard drive in zen x

i bought 2 new hard dri've a toshiba 80GB Mk8032Gas and a Hitachi Travelstar 80GB Hts54680j9at00 and somehow?i can't format hard dri'ves cause it says hard dri've problems. this is driving me nuts any help will be nice.?

That sounds pretty close to my problem too...
My 60 GB Zen Xtra (aka: the mp3 wonder brick) died a sad death this new year's eve
with an unexpected headphone snag/drop combo.
After that fatal drop, it would boot up to the rescue screen and only the Reboot option worked.
Choosing any other options just made it say: HARDDISK PROBLEM.
Then the other day, I finally got motivated to resurrect it from the dead,
so I went to Comp USA and picked up this monster:
    Seagate Momentus 5400.2 20GB Hard Dri've
    5400RPM, Internal, 8MB, ATA/00:
    http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=BROWSE&N=2002+502460+42949670 7+400093+429496694+429496676&Ne=30038&product_code =344258&Pn=Momentus_5400_2_20GB_Hard_Dri've
I took out the old busted dri've and the new hard dri've fit right in place...
snug as a 20gig bug. I put the whole thing back together and started it up but after aaall that,
it still does the same thing as before. It takes me straight to the rescue screen.
Option : Clean Up - Lets me select it but does nothing and goes back to rescue menu.
Option 2: Format All - Displays: Harddisk Problem
Option 3: Reload OS - Displays: Harddisk Problem
Option 4: Reboot - Reboots just fine and comes back to rescue mode screen.
So with the new dri've, I plugged it into my computer via USB and it didn't even recognize the device.
I then installed the newest drivers from Creative: JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_0_00
Then suddenly it pops up on my computer- New Hardware Added: Nomad Zen Xtra!
    Woohoo! Progress.
So then I tried the famous firmware upgrade- ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.
At first, it said my battery levels were too low so I let it charge and soon it started installing fine.
I clicked UPGRADE and clicked past all the warnings and then it displayed- Upgrading in Progress. Please Wait.
On the Zen's screen, the rescue menu even changed to the data transfer image. So it's communicating!
Followed by- Player is now rebooting. Please wait.
But at this point the Zen's screen goes back to the rescue menu.
It seems like it just needs some help rebooting because it just hangs at this step,
so I've just been scrolling down to Reboot and rebooting from there
(like I said, it's the only working option on the rescue menu anyway).
My computer beeps and dings, acknowledging that a USB device is being connected and disconnected as the Zen reboots.
And here is where things go stagnant...
Once the Zen fully reboots, the firmware upgrade says- Checking connected device. Please Wait.
And it just hangs there. The Zen doesn't enter rescue mode.
Instead it displays the data transfer image. It will get stuck like that,
but the second I move the scroll wheel in any way during this process,
the data transfer image goes away and it goes back to the rescue menu.
The whole time, the computer still says: Checking connected device. Please Wait.
even though the Zen doesn't appear to be transferring anything anymore since it's at the rescue menu.
Yet, if I unplug the USB cable or reboot the Zen at this point, it'll say: Firmware Upgrade Failed.
I even tried installing this older firmware to see if it might work better: ZenXtra_PCFW_LA__20_08
and it appears to install successfully but the Zen doesn't show any signs that it's been upgraded to Ver. .20.08.
It still just starts up in rescue mode and displays the same old symptoms.
In fact, when I try to do the newer: ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03 firmware upgrade afterwards,
it doesn't even acknowledge any upgrade to .20.08.
Instead, it still says that I'm upgrading from the original Ver. .03.02.
Any suggestions would be sooo greeatly appreciated.
My music world has collapsed and I feel like I'm stuck in the emergency room at the Zen hospital.
    Thanks sooo much,
    -pablo

  • Problem with new hard drive

    Hi all,
The hard drive on my Aluminium iMac broke recently (it was running Tiger), and I replaced it last night (I bought a reconditioned hard drive online that was formatted for Macs. The hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750 GB,Internal,7200 RPM). When I restarted the Mac it appeared to work okay, and went through first to the screen where you select your lanaguage, which I did, and then goes to the 'Mac OS X Utilities' menu. Here I can choose from 'Restart from Time Machine backup',  'Reinstall Mac OS X', 'Get help online' or 'Disk Utility'.
In the ideal world, I wanted to go for 'Reinstall Max OS X' but it's saying 'Set up or install a new copy of Lion', which I don't have (or, apparently, the memory to do it anyway!). I put in the Tiger installation disc, and although it recognises it in Disk Utility, I can't work out how to install it - no option comes up when I put the disc in, and no icon appears on the desktop.
As you might have already guessed, I'm not a computer expert, so if anyone has any help they can offer whatsoever then I'd be enormously grateful!
Many thanks for reading, and have a good day.

It sounds like the drive may have had Lion installed on it previously; and that the Lion recovery partition (which is created automatically when Lion is installed) may not have been erased. If that's the case, then you should be able to install Lion from it via the menu command you've found.
Note - there is no disk for Lion. It is only recently that it was made available on a thumb drive. Prior to that it was download only - hence the recovery partition, to allow a re-install in the event of a munged or erased system.
Re starting from the Tiger disk...
If you are using a wireless keyboard, wait until the startup chimes sound before pressing the C key.
You can also try pressing the Option key instead at that time. This will bring up Startup Manager, in which you can select the Tiger disk by clicking it, and then press Return.

No. Apple replaced the disk drive with a solid state drive (SSD) instead. The SSD is faster the old disk drive.

  • Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver

I rummaged around in here looking at opengl topics and others associated with the above error, but I'm not seeing what I'm encountering (or I am and I don't recognize it!).....
I bought CS4 a week or so ago, and installed it on a system running XP32 with service pack 3, 4GB of ram withe the /3GB switch set, nVidia 8600 GT card (which according to the list is supported), and multiple spindles for images, scratch, applications, and so on. I found other topics earlier so I downloaded the most recent drivers for my video card.
I'm not crashing and burning, but I'm getting some messages...
I opened an image, and while working on it I wanted to do a transform/warp. I got the message that Photoshop couldn't perform the operation because there wasn't enough memory. It didn't crash but I had to shut down CS4 and restart it to do the warp.
Most recently I opened a couple images for a panorama, and while doing the merge I got the message that "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled gpu enhancements." It tells me to check for the latest drivers - I've ALREADY got the lastest drivers. Again, no crash, just the warning. It completed the panorama.
There have been a couple other occurrences of messages of this type, so I'm curious if there's some set of preferences or system settting I need to adjust to optimize things? I've alrady adjusted the nVidia settings because I also run Lightroom and they're having problems too.
I've read the tech notes for the video and such and didn't find any set of optimizations there so is there a set of adjustments beyond the preferences that needs to be adjusted to improve memory and video performance? And if so, can someone point me to them.

As I understand it (suspect at best) XP32 can address 4 gig of memory. the /3gb switch lets the applications get at 3 gig of that. If my video card takes the first 256MB, and XP is guaranteed the other 750 of the 1st gig, and in the CS4 performance preferences I should be giving it from 1462 - 1895 MB (I've given it around 1890), that leaves me with another gig or so... Is that limited to applications or can XP use it? In any case, I'm not crashing, I just get the message every so often about being out of memory. I don't recall ever seeing this with CS3, but new version, new oddities...

  • Problem with the Display Driver

    Hi.
I just got this message when I started Adobe Photoshop today, that's the CS4 edition, about that there was a problem with the Display driver: "Photoshop have encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for the latest software. GPU enhancements can be enabled in the Performance panel of Preferences"
My problem is not what to do but how to do it. I went to System profiler and found something "ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro, and: Chipset Model: ATI,RadeonHD2600".
And so I want to ATI's website but can't find what I'm looking for.
    Any help?

I have cs6 - master collection. I bought it on last december and i didn't upgrade it.

It all started out when I got my nice shiny new iPod. I installed the latest 64 bit version of iTunes and connected my new iPod. First thing iTunes told me was that the iPod was corrupt and needed to be restored. I thought no big deal. The iPod is new with nothing on it so I had nothing to lose. The iPod was stuck in restore mode for about 8 hours and I gave up. I rebooted the computer and reconnected the iPod. Now iTunes could not see the iPod.
You may need to know that this computer is a newer Dell Studio XPS running the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium.
I followed all of the recommended solutions on the page for Windows not seeing an iPod. When it came to reinstall iTunes is when the real challenge started. Lots of problems with not being authorized to write some registry keys and iTunes would roll back the installation. Each time I installed iTunes I installed as Administrator. I had to jump through all of the hoops of deleting these registry keys what would not delete. I installed several times, each time deleting a new registry key that the installer would not overwrite. After 2 days I finally got iTunes reinstalled.
However iTunes would still not see the new iPod. Messed around with this for another few hours.
I have an old computer that I seldom use. This is an older Dell Dimension running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. It had an old version of iTunes. I thought I would try getting the iPod to work on this computer. This would at least tell me if there was a problem with the iPod itself. I updated the iTunes to the latest version. Connected the iPod. It was seen but said the iPod was corrupt. Did a restore and all appeared to work fine. So this tells me the problem is not with the iPod, but with iTunes on the other computer.
I went to my other computer, the one that I want to use iTunes on, and reconnected the iPod. It was seen this time but iTunes said that the iPod was corrupt and needs to be restored. I started the restore process. It has been restoring for over 10 hours now.
I really don't want to start over with all of the problems I had reinstalling iTunes.
Anyone have some suggestions on what to try next?

Made some progress during my lunch break. I started suspecting a problem with the USB driver for this iPod. I found KB article 1538 which was helpful.
I went to the device manager and deleted anything that looked like an Apple device and deleted all USB mass storage devices. I also deleted the device drivers for these items at the same time. I then scanned for hardware changes and the iPod was found.
The iPod is now seen in Windows Explorer. It still has the name I gave it when it was connected to my other PC. So I suspect the restore that was taking over 10 hours never had a chance to start. From Windows Explorer I was able to access some folders on the iPod.
iTunes would still not see this iPod. However I hope a reboot will solve this.
Ran out of time and needed to go back to work. I will update how this worked.

  • Mac Pro Early 2008 problems with firewire 400 drives

I am having some sporadic problems with firewire 400 drives and am trying to figure out my best options going forward. System 10.5.2 has hung on me twice in the first week of use, and each time I noticed from console there were some problems accessing one or more of these drives (even though I wasn't doing any reads/writes to/from them). Just before one of the crashes, Disk Utility also had problems "seeing" these drives. My external firewire drives are:
    Maxtor OneTouch III 750GB
    Acomdata enclosure/Seagate 400GB
    LaCie d2/160GB
    LaCie w/Lightscribe DVD
I have this "cobbled" arrangement because I just upgraded from an eMac and needed these drives to manage video files, audio files, photos, etc. While I'd love to go out and buy new internals to install in my spare bays, and migrate the data to them, I will have to do that in stages as my budget is tapped out at the moment. My MacPro is the base version of the early 2008 units, with 300GB internal.
In the interim, is it worth troubleshooting firmware updates for these externals, or am I destined to continue to have firewire problems? Is there a straight-forward/inexpensive way to remove these drives from enclosures/install in drive bays with an adaptor? I believe the external hard drives are all ATA type drives.
Thanks in advance for any counsel.

I would assume that the Maxtor may be SATA. Does it have an eSATA port? Also, there were a lot of threads (in OS X Leopard forum) about those OneTouch units. Same can be said for LaCie problems.
Yes, check for firmware and configuration. In some cases, and what I do with any new OS, is to reformat all drives - gradually. Given the age of the eMac I'd guess firmware is out of date, and that the drives are formatted some time ago. While you don't have to use GUID, it is a good idea eventually, or just reformat a drive.
Don't forget to test your drives with Disk Warrior (4.1) also.
750GB WD Caviar is $139 SATA.

Are you using daisy chains? you have one FW bus shared by front and back ports. Do you have any on FW800 or using FW400 to FW800 adapter cable? PCI Express FW400 card might even help a little.
Never had trouble with OWC enclosures:

  • Will Time Machine with Leopard Sync With New Hard Drive and Snow Leopard?

My computer is a 20" iMac that I bought in late 2008. The hard drive had trouble so Apple repaired with disk utility. Week later, more trouble so they did full hard drive erase. Data was backed up on Time Machine, 500GB also bought in 2008. After full hard drive erase, and reinstall of basic software, upon reboot, computer would power on then immediately off. It doesn't get past white screen. They advised a new hard drive install is needed.
A computer friend can install a hard drive just fine for me. However, I do not have the Leopard install disc. He could do it with Snow Leopard but I am scared. I'm afraid because my Time Machine last backup was with Leopard, not snow Leopard. I do not have my application discs with me, they are in storage in another state. Thus, if upon adding replacing hard drive and installing Snow Leopard my computer won't be able to sync FILES and APPLICATIONS from Time Machine because its on Leopard I will have a problem.
How can I either 1)Get a Leopard install disc and do that with the new hard drive install OR 2)make sure that a Snow Leopard install with new hard drive won't prevent my Time Machine from being able to install the saved FILES and APPLICATIONS if I don't have original APPLICATION (ie Aperture, Photoshop) with me? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
That Mac should have come with Leopard. If so, call AppleCare. They'll send you replacement discs for a nominal fee.
Once this is sorted out, make a 8-10 GB partition on an external HD or your internal HD, and use the Restore tab of Disk Utility to copy the Install disc to that partition. Then you can boot and run from it instead of the physical disc. It will boot and run much faster, too.
He could do it with Snow Leopard but I am scared.
If he does, and doesn't provide a retail Snow Leopard disc, you must buy one ($29). It's a violation of the license to share software, and you'll need a SL disc to do things like restore a Snow Leopard backup, or the Snow Leopard Apple apps, or repair the internal HD.
Your best bet is to stay with Leopard, at least until you have access to your 3rd-party software discs.
What you can do, however, is borrow his Snow Leopard Install disc (assuming it's a white Retail disc, not a gray one that came with his Mac), and use it to do a full system restore from your backups. That's not a violation of the license, since you don't install or use OSX from that disc; you just use the Installer utility on it to restore the Leopard OSX and all your data from your backups.
