Problems with newly bought p965 neo-f
Hello
Any help would be appreciated.
I just bought a new intel Core-duo CPU and I'm having problems booting and installing XP.
Here's the machine setup
cpu: intel core duo 2.13Mh
board: MSI p965 neo-f
ram: 2x512Mb Mushkin em2 pc2-5300
dvd: samsung on IDE as master
hd: barracuda 7200.10 320Gb on sata3 or 4 ...
- If I install RAM in dual channel 1 and 3, I can't pass through the MSI splashscreen. System frozen.
- If I install RAM in dual channel 2 and 4, I can start xp setup from DVD, but it freezes up at some point (loading primary stuff)
- If I only set a single channel (2), I can get a bit further in the setup process, but I get a failure at some point when copying some files from DVD to HD (never the same file on each try).
Didn't change a thing in the BIOS except the boot order
Any idea anyone?
allright
Got it to work with my friend's RAM: Kingston kvr800, 2x512 Mb
My muchkin RAM on his system seemed to work, although the system didn't seemed to respond well when we ran dxDiag or system properties (it could,nt dusplay memory status, etc)
ALSO, we realized that if I installed the 2x512Mb muchkin RAM as single channel in my system, then it went fine to...
I guess I'm better to ask and exchange the muchkin chips for Kingston

Problem with my MSI P35 Neo MotherBoard [Cannot find harddrive]
Hi guys.
So, I've been trying to install Archlinux for a while now, and I've been trying to figure out what problem Is by myself, and I've been asking a bunch of people, but it seems that it's going to a dead end.
What we figured out, and what we "think" it is, is that the controller on my motherboard does not support the system, and my SATA disk that I am trying to install on.
What i have tried is that.. I've followed the "beginners guide" to install arch linux, and when i noticed that i got a big problem with my harddrive i asked some people for help, tough we cannot figure out what the problem is..
Firstly i boot up with my ArchLinux CD.. Then i write km, to change the keyboard layout. Then /arch/setup ofcourse . After that when i try to partitionate and set mountpoints for filsystem it does not show any kind of hardware at all. So i tried to partitionate with gparted and then boot up with Archlinux again to install all my packages etc etc. But it seems like it does not write the information to anything.
This is a big problem for me cause i really want my Arch distribution to work, so please guys.. Help me!
EDIT
Just in case you wanted to know.. My motherboard is a MSI P35 Neo

Any problem with Gainward 6800GT & K8N Neo Platinum? (sock754)
Hi all! I want to buy the k8n neo p., was reading this review:
http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=6&id=1247&pg=12
The author write:
"One of the problem we encountered was the transistor positioning near the AGP slot. With extremely lengthy AGP cards, one of the capacitors located in that area may obstruct certain components on the graphics card. As such, users with large graphics cards might want to first test the installation of a graphics card before purchasing this motherboard."
I have a Gainward 6800GT Powerpack Ultra/2400 Golden Sample, the red model with double red fans, visible here http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gainward-ultra2400.html
Approx 21 cm lenght. There is any mounting problem with this graphic card and the K8N NEO Platinum?Quote

In fact this is my fear
The cooler on my card is very big, but i don't want to eventually modify it in the future because it's in warranty. Someone know what is the height of the three damned capacitors? If i know the height, i can estabilsh if this gfx card can fit without troubles in the motherboard. I want an MSI don't want to buy an Asus -
Problem with overclocking on k9n neo v3
yesterday I've updated to your latest bios ver 2.2.
I have a lot of problem with the overclocking ability of this board.
I think that is great that you put H.t multiplier in the new bios update.
But why you c'ant change the voltage to the core?
1.3 is realy not enouge.
I c'ant get normal oc from this board.
please fix this.
tha's really annoying.
another problem is with the memory multiplier.
I can't change it at all. even if I doing downclock!
the board can't get start. and the display is blinking.
so I have to clear the cmos!
that is frustrating.
I hope that you fix all that problem with your next
bios update.
thank you.Quote from: Misko78 on 08-November-07, 06:19:26
I have neo v2 board. There is no improvement in bios 2.3 I've managed to reach 250MHz FSB but only with auto option in memory speed settings. Also i've noticed that memory is always around 375MHz when on auto although modules are rated at 667MHz.

That is correct freq., 375Mhz means 750Mhz effective... -
Problems with 9600XT and k8t Neo 2
I have a problem with my 9600XT and my board...
Sometimes the board indicates grafic-card failure at post (8 beeps in a row).
After som trying it will work and windows will start. Games work just fine!
I should say that when i installed the new board my old 9600XT didnt work (8 beeps) And i had it replaced, and after getting the new 9600XT (RMA-return) it have worked just fine until a few days ago...
MSI k8t neo 2
Sapphire 9600XT
AMD 64 3500+
Q-TEC 550w (possible problem?)
Bios: 3.30
I also have a problem with the data execution (dont know it in english). explorer.exe is shutting down sometimes due to the data execution protection. No viruses according to nod32...Maybe you should your memory module in DIMM2 (the other green one), if it's in DIMM1 right now. Or you could try another module, if possible.
Here are the beep codes:

Odd collection of problems with newly purchased used iMac
I have recently purchased a used iMac from eBay (an Intel model from 2006). I've been trying to get it set up over the last couple of days and have had one problem after another. I suspect a hardware problem, but would like to be able to pin it down before I contact the seller and ask them to take (and pay for shipping on) a return.
Here are the symptoms:
The iMac came with OS 10.5 freshly installed. I ran Software Update, which offered to install a combo update to bring it up to 10.5.8. I said yes, and it downloaded the update, restarted to complete the installation, and then hung at the same point for hours during the installation. I finally gave up and shutdown by holding down the power button, then restarted and tried again to run the update through Software Update -- and it hung again. I did a new fresh install of 10.5, and thereafter was able to download and install the update properly.
Afterward, I used the computer for a while without a problem and installed a few applications that I have known to be compatible with both Leopard and Intel Macs in the past. After it finished with the installing, I opened a Safari window and the computer became unresponsive, except that I could move the spinning beach ball around the screen. I left it for ten or fifteen minutes, then tried to force quit, but the force quit dialog box wouldn't come up. I held down the power button to shut down, waited ten seconds, and restarted.
Suspecting bad memory, I installed Applejack and Memtest and used Applejack to run Memtest in single user mode. It found no problems with the memory. (The computer did not come with a disk to check the hardware.)
I restarted, tried to open Safari and found that the cursor was "stuck." I went to check the USB connection for the mouse, when I heard the startup chime and then watched as the iMac rebooted on its own. A screen notice said:
The computer was restarted after Mac OS X quit unexpectedly. Click report to see more details or send a report to Apple.

The report also showed an unusual screen artifact -- a black line that went across it, but was not on the rest of the screen.
I opened Safari to look up information about kernel panics, and found a similar black line across its window. Later, on a different page, there was a blue line -- and on another page after that, various blue and black lines appeared. I restarted Safari, and it still showed odd lines. Those lines were only on the Safari window, not across the whole screen.
I have very little experience troubleshooting problems of this sort, and I'm hoping someone with more experience can tell me what significance the panic report has and how it might relate to the other problems. Like I said, I expect that I'll need to return this iMac (which I've only had for a couple of days now), but I'd like to have a clearer idea of what's going on before I contact the seller.
Any help would be much appreciated!Safari just unexpectedly quit. I don't know if the report offers useful information, but here it is:

Problems with newly installed RAM
Please help!
At first, my IMac 2008 wouldn't start... It was showing grey screen and beeping 3 times in a row. So I ordered new RAMs (4 GB matching pair) instead of my old 1 GB. After 'playing' with correct positioning for (seemingly) hours nothing was happening at all. Then I put back the old memory in along with 1 new one in the other slot and the computer finally turned on. I went to check if IMac recognized the new memory and it did showing 3 GB of it instead of the 1 GB I originally had. Anyway, it convinced me that the problem is not in the new RAMs I purchased. To make the long story short: my IMac worked for about 15 min. and froze again. I had to turn it off manually. After that I was back to square one. When I put old memory in - I get grey screen with 3 beeps. When I put either one or both new RAMs in - nothing happens. It was my first time swapping the RAMs so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong or if it's me at all. I'd appreciate any help anybody could provide. Thanks in advance!!!Hi artnsus, I will make this simple for you. I bought 16 gigs of ram from OWC. One stick went bad in a matter of a few days. The grey screen and 3 dong sounds is a a bad stick. The other guy is right, Apple computers are very picky about their ram. I ended up with a kernel panic as well. That's was real fun! Let me say that again. That was not fun! So, here is exactly what OWC emailed me and said I should do after I install ram in my Mac,
Gently clean the memory contacts with a soft pencil eraser and make sure you seat them properly into the slots.
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM (should be done any time you alter the ram configuration)
1. Shut down the computer (should already be off from install)
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until you hear the startup sound ("bong") for the third time.
6. Release the keys.
Let me say this, nowhere in Apple's Instuctions of adding or replacing ram does it say anything like this needs to be done! I don't really get this and to be honest I don't trust buying ram from OWC. Oh, let me also say this. OWC also said that my iMac could take up to 32 gigs of ram while Apple specifies only 16. They say they do testing but they failed my test and honestly I don't see myself doing much business with them again. That's not to say they are to a good company, I just don't think I want to by ram from them again. -
Sound problems with songs bought of itunes.
i just updated to 9.0.1 and 10.5.8 and now all my 256 kbit m4a files bought of itunes sound very strange, somehow muffled or phasey.
i can tell it pretty well as i'm comparing different formats of my own song.
1. my original master .wav file : sounds normal
2. a 320 kbit mp3 bought of beatport (DJ download shop) : sounds normal
3. a 256 kbit .m4a bought in the itunes store : sounds muffled and phasey now.
if i drag the same file to the desktop and listen to it with quick look it sounds normal again , so it's definitely an issue with itunes.
i don't have any options activated in the settings which could affect the sound and i'm listening in a professional studio environment.
i found another topic regarding this problem but it's in the itunes for windows section.
i wonder why there aren't any other people complaining about it cause it really easy to notice.
nobody else seeing this on a mac ?
----sorry for the triple post, but earlier that day i had a strange error message, numbered -1. I looked for info on it but i could find none. Whenever i tried to start iTunes this error would occur. I eventually solved it, but could that affect the songs I bought earlier? This was the first time I had trouble syncing songs to my iPod.

Problem with newly built computer
I just built a computer (first time ever) and here are my specs:
350 watt PSU that came with Enermax case (28A@+3.3V, 35A@+5V, 16A@+12V)
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
2x512 MB Kingston DDR400
ATI Radeon 9700 pro
When I turn it on, everthing works great...... it runs perfectly. Unfortunately, when I tried to install Windows XP pro, after it formatted my HD and tried to auto-reboot, the screen just went blank. The fans kept running, the DVD drive still looked active, everything looked fine except that nothing showed up on the monitor. In fact, because of this, I thought the monitor might be the problem so I swapped monitors but same thing happened.
I soon discovered that everytime I restart, the screen just goes blank. If I turn off the PSU and then back on and start the computer back up, it works fine again - it's only when I reboot.
BTW, my D-bracket stays at CPU initialization when I try to restart.
Over at http://www.techimo.com a guy suggested that the PSU probably was too weak. Is that the problem, or is my mobo screwed up or something else?
Thanks,

As for the error, does it occur on the new computer or the old computer. If it's on the old computer, could it be that the hard drive is beyond the 137GB limit of old BIOSs?
Also, I've come across this when I overclocked to much. I solved it by resetting the CMOS with the jumper. You can look in the manual but its the jumper to the right of your CMOS batter (which is to the right of the 4th PCI slots).
It kind of looks like this:
Pin Pin Pin 3
Pin Pin Pin 2 --->Jumpered (little cap)
|
Pin Pin Pin 1 ---
To reset, physically unplug your power supply and wait a bit (like 5 seconds). Then move the jumper so that it connects pin 2 and 3. Wait 30 seconds. Then put it back to connect pin 1 and 2 (important or your motherboard may break). Voila, CMOS reset.
I was lucky, I just toke my HD from my old computer, putted it n my new config. And yes it worked after installing the additional drivers. -
Problems with SATA and 865-Neo Series 2
Hi All,
My configuration is as follow:
MS-6278, 1GB OCZ RAM, Enermax 465VE P/S, Ti42008x, Seagate 250 and 320 SATA Perpendicular drives - no raid setup.
Okay - So I have 2 SATA drives and 2 PATA CDROMS in the computer.
Everything has been working fine until last night.
What happens now is that when I boot up the computer, the post screen comes up, all drives are detected and I get a single beep. Then the computer sits there. I watch the HDD light, and after the first initial seek and detect - the HDD never moves again.
I also tried booting off a CD by hitting F11 during the boot up tests. I get the option to select a CD drive, and select it, nothing happens. Stuck at post screen.
No power outages, no weird behavior up until I soft rebooted the machine. Since then I can't get past the BIOS.
I did do a factory BIOS reset and then I was able to boot using the Windows XP CD, but couldn't find the drives in recovery mode (since the SATA driver hadn't been loaded).
I tried leaving the working settings alone and disconnected the power to the SATA driver, and still could not boot off the CDROM with SATA setup.
Any help, ideas? Is my motherboard dead or something?
Thanks in advance!CPU - Intel 2.8 Hyperthreading.
Really weird.
So I took your suggestion and downloaded Seagate tools. Then I reset the BIOS so that I could boot from the CD. Of course, my SATA drives were not found. So I went back and activated the SATA in the BIOS. This time, I put left the Seagate disk in and tried F11. Bingo - I was able to run the CD. Then I ran the File System and Quick Disk checks. The File system test said that both of my drives had files errors. The util said I needed to fix the files using the Windows disk.
Then I quit. I have three CD drives - so I left the Seagate disk in, and put in knoppix and windows. I attempted to boot of the Windows disk and got a cannot book NTLOADER error, then it went to the hard drives and started booting up the OS!
I rebooted once, no problems!
i am running Scandisk now on the boot drive - no errors on 1, 2, 3/5 stages - stage 4 in progress now.
I will keep you posted. -

GeorgeOnly the most recent backup is kept (unless you are on a Mac using Time Machine). The location of the backup on your computer is :
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
The date of the last backup should be shown in Edit > Preferences on the Devices tab (it is on a PC anyway).
If you want to do a restore to a backup (which should restore all your apps data and settings) then there are instructions in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079 (it's not something I've needed to do) -
Wallpaper problem with newly imported images. 1680x1050 displaying @840x525
Hello,
I imported some new images into Aperture and I want to use them as Desktop wallpapers for my computer. The images original size are 1680x1050 and they appear to retain they're size upon import.
I then go to System Preferences -> Desktop and ScreenSaver and find my images in the project I placed them in. All my previous imported images that were imported many months ago still display fine however these new images are displaying 840x525! I know the exact size because after selecting the image I can drag its thumbnail view from the preview area.
I then tried just specifying the folder in my hard drive where the images are located and the Desktop and Screensaver applet had no problem displaying the images at their original size 1680x1050 so I don't believe anything is wrong with them.
I tried looking throughout Aperture if there was an import setting that could be affecting this but I didn't find anything. The only thing I've done recently was upgrade my system to 10.5.4 with the Software Update tool. Is there anything else that can be wrong here?
Note: I tried using this wallpaper as well as still have the same issue, http://ironmanmovie.marvel.com/downloads/desktops/images/desk03_1680.jpg
I would appreciate any insight to what can be causing my images to display smaller than they really are on my wallpaper. When viewing them in Aperture they are the correct size.
Thanks,
- Jakebump

Problem with newly installation of Bridge
I can not get a newly installed Bridge program to connect to the internet, update or display thumbnails. CS6 runs fine as does Camera Raw. This is a new computer running Windows 8.1
Right, just icons with the NEF designation and none of the Meta data from the file. I run Bridge (which in my opinion is a lot more than a file cabinet) all the time on another computer. I am aware of the Help - Update command, but when I try to perform an update I get an error message that I am not connected to the Internet (which I am) and that my user does not have admin privileges (which it does).
I appreciate the help. Please give me anything ideas or I'll have to suffer through the Chat help on Monday.
Thanks -
I just updated my desktop manager software this afternoon with the newer version that's in my subject line. The backup/restore feature works fine, but when I try to open the media manager, it opens, says no device is connected (when it is), and then gives me a pop-up message saying that an error has occurred (doesn't say what error specifically), and that the program needs to be restarted. I have tried it numerous times, and it always gives the same error message. Any ideas?
FYI, I have a Blackberry Pearl 8130, and am on the Verizon network.
