How did you install the update - via website?  If so, you can always uncheck any optional software
Either way, Chrome behaves very badly - especially when uninstalled.  Try setting your usual browser as the default browser, and Outlook, Word, etc. should open links normally after that.
P.S. I do not endorse Adobe's policy to push optional software with their free products, but there is nothing we can do about that.  However, Adobe would not go as far as pushing spyware (Ask toolbar); most likely it was the harmless Google toolbar.

  • Problem with opening link in the Avant Browser

The Avant browser, even with flash enabled, isn't
successfully opening the link inside the email notification message

www.share.acrobat.com/**********). I get to the URL but the flash

All-in-all, this is going to be a nice Web app.

I have the same problem - shocked that this hasn't been addressed by Adobe or Microsoft.  It began with recent updates.  Adobe Reader will not open a .pdf file on the web.  I sometimes get the following dialog but mostly I get a blank screen with "Done" in the status bar.
If I open a .pdf from my hard drive I get a message about protected mode. If I click on the link in the message, I get Adobe instructions about turning off protected mode - but it is already turned off.  If i cancel that message i can open a local .pdf.

  • Problems with opening links in outlook after installing Flash player 11

I recently installed a flash plaer 11 active X update. I wasn't given the option of not installing google chrome and another program - Ask toolbar I think ( or I may have missed it ) but when I discovered the problem I uninstalled the google chrome and the other program.
After doing this I discovered that when I went to open links in outlook I received the message:
``This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.``
I am running Windows 7 64 bit and using IE 9.
Any help would be appreciated to return my system to normal.
I also noticed that chrome and the other program were installed without automatically creating a restore point.
I am very disappointed in how Adobe pushes programs on people.

  • Problem with selecting text in Adobe Reader XI

Hi all, I am encountering a problem with Adobe Reader XI and it is very strange I could not find an alike issue on the internet so I guess I have to submit a question with it.
So here it is, I am using Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.2, operating system: Windows 7. I do not know it starts from when but it has the problem with selecting text - to be copied in pdf documents. I ensure that the documents are not scanned documents but word-based documents (or whatever you call it, sorry I cannot think of a proper name for it).
Normally, you will select the text/paragraph you want to copy and the text/paragraph will be highlighted, but the problem in this case that I cannot select the text/paragraph, the blinking pointer (| <-- blinking pointer) will just stays at the same location so I cannot select/highlight anything to be copied. It happens oftenly, not all the time but 90%.
This is very annoying as my work involves very much with copying text from pdf documents, I have to close the pdf file and then open it again so I can select the text but then after the first copying or second (if I am lucky), the problem happens again. For a few text I have to type it myself, for a paragraph I have to close all opening pdf documents and open again so I could select the paragraph to copy. I ran out of my patience for this, it causes trouble and extra time for me just to copying those texts from pdf documents. Does this problem happen to anyone and do you have a solution for this? I would much appreciate if you could help me out, thank you!

Yeah,  I totally agree, this is very strange. I have always been using Adobe Reader but this problem only occurred ~three months ago. It must be that some software newly installed I think. But I have no idea.
About your additional question, after selecting the texts and Ctrl + C, the texts are copied and nothing strange happens. It's just that right after I managed to copy the texts, it takes me a while to be able to select the texts again. For your information, I just tested to select the texts and then pressed Ctrl, the problem happened. And then I tried pressing C and then others letters, it all led to the problem.
I guess I have to stick with left-clicked + Copy until I/someone figure the source of this problem. Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Problems with uninstalling and updating Adobe Reader 9.x

I have an issue with updating Adobe Reader 9.4.5. I get regularly automatic update routines and success reports after I ran them. However, when I open Adobe Reader it still shows up as version 9.4.5. So I tried to uninstall Adobe Reader completely. First of all, in the software panel two Adobe Reader versions show up: 9.4.5 & 9.3.5. Of those two, I could only uninstall the Adobe Reader 9.4.5. The 9.3.5 version doesn't sucessfully enter into an uninstall routine. As my computer expertise is limited, I don't know if there are other ways to remove that program successfully. Another odd thing is that when I open Adobe Reader, the version displayed is 9.4.5 although that was the one which seems to have uninstalled correctly. As you see, it's all a bit of a mess and I would appreciate your help with addressing this issues. Many thanks in advance.

You may want to try the following.
Remove  all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using  the  Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by  Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Then, download the Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    and perform a clean install.

  • I still have problems with Error 1402 in Adobe Reader 9.5 Installation.  Can anyone help me?

Hi, I have a Compaq Presario C500 Laptop with Windows Vista installed.  For the past year, I've been trying to upgrade from Adobe Reader version 8 to either a version 9 or 10.  However, when I download and begin the installation, I always get two error messages:
The first one is the error 1402 could not open key.  The registry path is HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\Software\Classes\PDFShellServer.PDFShelllnfo2\CurVer.  Verify you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel.
The second one occurs when it retrys:  It say error 1402 could not open key.  The registry path is HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\Software\Classes\AcroAccess.AcrobatAccess\CurVer.  Verify you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel.
I went to the troubleshooting page and followed the instructions given.  But when I go into the Permissions area and do as the instructions say, regardless whether I click Apply or OK, I get a Windows Security message saying - Unable to set new owner on Cur Ver, Access is denied.
This does this no matter how many times I repeat the instructions for troubleshooting.  Can anyone recommend another possible solution?  Thanks!

    from:  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/access-denied-setting-ow ner-andor-permissions-on/71cdd66a-75ce-4e79-bace-89637e0dacae
First be sure you run RegEdit as Administrator
Right click the key in the left hand pane ... select permissions from the context menu
In the permissions dialog, click the advanced button.
In the advanced security settings dialog switch to the Owner tab
I assume your usercode is a member of the local Administrators group
Click the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box.
If Administrators is NOT the owner, select it in the change owner to box...press Apply...OK.
You are now back at the Permissions dialog box.
Select Administrators and give them Full control by selecting the Full Control checkbox in the Allow column...press Apply ... Ok
It has been a while since I have had to do this ... so I might be off a little on the steps.
The key is IGNORE any messages that say you don't have enought rights...
You must do each key... one at a time....:)

  • Problem with Groupwise 7 and Adobe Reader/Microsoft Office products

We recently went to Groupwise to handle corporate external email (we've been using it for years for internal email). We've run into a little trouble. The first trouble is that we had to manually push out registry settings using ZENworks (changes we took were from the tool available at- http://tinyurl.com/2su3vt). We are having trouble now with emailing from a third party program.
For example, we've got many users who email a file using Adobe Reader.Using a "clean" VMWare machine, I install Groupwise (7.0.2 currently)and install Adobe Reader and try to send the email and it works.
When the users try to use it, though, it prompts them to use either"Novell Default Settings" or "Novell Groupwise." They can hit okay, and neither of them work. They get an error message and the message does not send.
If they try to send from Word or Excel, they get a similar message.
I'm led to believe that this is some sort of trouble with Windows Messaging, but I can't put my finger on it. So, here's what I've tried today - reinstalled wms and ran fixmapi.exe. Double checked to see that IE is the correct email program in IE.
    Didn't work.
"Push out" application that assigns Groupwise as default email client.
    Reinstalled Groupwise
    Reinstalled Adobe Reader
Nothing... still is giving me an error in Reader "An error occurred while sending mail." Anyone experience similar trouble - especially with Adobe Reader (which has many important documents our users use to email).
    Thanks in advance,
    Brent Hanson--

I'm experiencing the same exact problems.  Were you able to find a resolution?

  • Problem with snow leopard and adobe reader

The United States Postal Service uses Adobe Reader to print labels with their "Click 'n Ship", a great service. I recently installed Snow Leopard on my Mac and I can no longer print labels with USPS Click 'n Ship. Applecare suggested I reinstall Reader (didn't work), or try with Firefox (haven't tried it yet). If this is a glitch, it will effect thousands of people who use USPS services. But maybe I just need a plug in, or need to make some change in the Adobe Reader Preferences. Any help out there in cyberland? ---Ken

    Hi,
I have Firefox but mainly use Safari
I was also getting a blank page when I tried to open a PDF.
It seemsI that when I downloaded the update version of Adobe Reader, it switched off the "Read & Write" back to just "Read".
if you go and get information on a PDF or Adobe  program (Command I), under "Open With" should say  Adobe Reader App  and at the left bottom where you'll see"Name" then below that,"everyone"-now just across you'll probably see "Read Only".(if you don't see this then go to step 5). This should be Read & Write so that Adobe Acrobat can create the Adobe Reader program to allow you to open and use a PDF.
If you have Adobe Reader 10.0 on your Apps, try going to step 5 below
    1) Go to your user folder on your hard drive (ie: "lew").
    2) Open Library/Application Support/ folder.
    3) If there isn't an "Adobe" folder, create one now (go to File-->New Folder menu item) and name it "Adobe".
    4) If there is an "Adobe" folder, right click on it and choose "Get Info".
    5) Expand the "Sharing & Permissions" area at the bottom of the info window. (click the triangle) so that  "system", "admin" and "everyone" appears.
    6) Click the lock icon in the lower right of the window.  Enter your password in the dialog that appears.
Now you'll see various choices you can make and "Read & Write" is open of them.
    7) For your username (ie: "lew") entry under "Name", make sure it says "Read & Write" to the right of it.  If your username isn't listed, make sure to the right of "everyone" it says "Read & Write".
Now Acrobat should launch properly when double clicked in the Finder as well as when viewing PDFs in Safari.
If this works please let me know

  • Problems with all versions of Adobe Reader Changing shortcuts upon install.

I am using windows 7 and attempting to install Adobe Reader 9.3.4.  When I do this all of my shortcut icons change to Adobe Reader icons.  Also, the destination links in the shortcuts have NOT changed but when I click on something such as the calculator it will try to open Adobe Reader.  The shortcuts return to normal when Adobe Reader is uninstalled.  I have installed several older versions of Adobe Reader and the same thing happens.  has anyone heard of this happening and if so do you happen to know of a solution?

There was some discussion here around this issue. Please refer to the following post:

  • Problem with highlighting texts in Adobe Reader X

i've a problem with the highlighting tool, it can only highlight one word at a time, it isn't possible for me to drag and highlight. i've tried updating but to no avail. in addition, i can't use the snapshoot tool either. basically any function that requires a click-and-drag motion is disabled. i'd greatly appreciate it if a kind soul may help me with this issue please!! thank you very much!

PDF files have to be specially enabled for you to save the contents. It appears the old version of these files had this capability, but the new version does not. Without Acrobat you will be unable to save the files. If these are truly government files, you can try going to the government's website and see if you can download a copy that will allow you to save the form field data.

  • Problem with forms created in Adobe 9 not saving in reader X

We have been using fill in forms I created in Adobe 9 pro and suddenly people were complaining they cannot save the form with their information.  I have discovered that all of those people have acrobat reader X.  I looked for solution and found that original form needs to be saved with "extend features in Adobe reader".  when I did this it seems to have corrected problem.  Does anyone know another way to accomplish without redoing the form? There are many forms and they  have been widely distributed and would be difficult to redistribute. They worked fine with Acrobat reader 9.

In order for a modified form to be saved with any recent version of Adobe Reader, the document has to Reader-enabled, which is done in Acrobat 9 by selecting "Advanced > Extend Feature in Adobe Reader". So if the forms worked with Reader 9, they must have had the rights applied through this process or by LiveCycle Reader Extensions. It would be interesting to see a form that is fillable/saveable with Reader 9 that doesn't work with Reader 10.
