Problems with Pearl 8130

Lately I've been having some issues with my Pearl 8130.  I have been able to temporarily correct these problems by removing my battery and resetting the phone, but the problems have gotten steadily worse so that I have to reset it ten times a day.
Sometimes when someone calls me it won't ring (yes, I've checked and my ringer is on); it will show me a missed call, but when I check my call log nothing is there.  Yes, someone is really calling, I did confirm that with the caller.
Sometimes when someone sends me a message in BB Messenger, it will show on my main screen the icon showing I have a new message, but when I open BB Messenger there is no message there.  If I click on my Message Icon, it shows there that I have a new BB message, but when I click on it, it takes me back to BB Messenger and there is no message there.  If I reset my phone by removing the battery, the BB message is there then.
I'm getting frustrated with having to take the battery out so many times a day.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

YES!!  Memory Leak!! It's not just you.
I got sucked into getting a fun-sized Blackberry Pearl.  I love the interface, the trackball, the intelligent auto-text, the camera, the media player, everything.  It's a perfect phone.  Almost.
MY BLACKBERRY PEARL 8130 RANDOMLY DELETES ALL MESSAGES WITHOUT WARNING.
It happens to all Pearls with all carriers (VERIZON, SPRINT, T-MOBILE...)
It happens regardless of how much free memory you keep available.  I babysit my phone hourly, and it still happens.
It happens even though I have a 2-GIG memory card.
It happens if you let it sit on the counter and collect dust.
It happened to the refurbished unit they sent me to 'fix' it.
It doesn't warn you it's erasing itself.  You have to find out the hard way.
When it happens, it also continues to erase all incomming messages and missed call reports, even after it makes more room by doing that auto-brain-flush.
The only way to begin receiving messages again, is to remove the battery for a minute, and re-boot it.
Sprint tells you that it's an intentional design feature by RIM to make room. The 4 Sprint tech support people that I talked to, read from the same script.  They keep a sheet of tatterd and worn paper outlining the excuse that SPRINT brainwashed them into reading and believing.
Verizon offers to give you a newer model, but newer models do it too.  They might do it less because they have more internal memory, but since there is no set memory level for the crash to happen, I wouldn't trust a Curve, either.
RIM has people that post messages on boards like these, attempting to minimize this problem.  They pose as fake Blackberry owners, try to make you feel stupid, and blame it on the end-user.  It is not your fault.  There is nothing you can do.
My phone number is[removed personal information]
My name is Nathan.
Call me, if you want.  I'll tell you all about it.
I kick myself for recommending this phone to my friends.  I have 3 fellow Blackberry-owning friends, and they all hate me.
I am hooked on the mini-QWERTY.  It's going to be hard to go back to my LG slider.  I'm digging it out of my junk drawer tonight, and getting it reactivated.
Are you STILL thinking about getting a Blackberry?  Do it, I dare you to not have these problems.
P.S.  No, the fancy new 4.5 software does not fix this, it causes more problems.  I tried it.  Now my 'smartphone' is merely an expensive day-planner.  Wait... no, it isn't even that.  My calendar doesn't save any dates.  The microphone and handset speaker doesn't work, so I can't call anybody.  Telenav doesn't give audible prompts, it just shows you where you are, and can't tell you where to go.  I wish I could tell somebody at RIM where to go.  Of course, it would be hard to mozy in that direction with their heads shoved so far up their assas.

  • Serious Problem With Pearl 8120 - Potential Battery Malfunction?

    Hello all;
    I've got a Pearl 8120
with v4.5.0.102 OS loaded that has recently started experiencing what seems to be some kind of power related problem.
I'm aware that it's an older phone, but it's been good to me, so I'd like to salvage it if I can.
The phone shuts off sporadically now (as of about a week ago), and typically does so while I'm using some of its internet related features (be it through WiFi or Edge).  It's happened to me today just shortly after charging the battery.  When I got the phone back on again, it was still showing that the battery was almost full.  It's happened again once since then though, and this time, the phone didn't complete its boot-up process.  As is typical when I first insert the battery, the red LED will illuminate, then I get brought to a white screen with a rotating hour-glass.  This boot up process usually takes a few minutes, and the phone would keep shutting off every time I tried repeating this process.  I was able to get the phone to turn on again when I tried booting it up while plugged in.  When it did finally turn on, it asked me to verify that the date and time were correct.
Are any of you able to diagnose the problem based on the symptoms I have described?
    Thanks in advance!

do you confirm you never have the issue when the charger is plugged?
Maybe it's a bad contact between the battery and your device. Try putting some folded paper between the battery and the battery door.

  • Many Problems with pearl flip

intermittent: no ring, no vibrate, dropped calls, flipping networks, typing erratic, slow dial, slow wifi, can't change from letters to numbers when typing, too many problems,,,, got to get rid of this, I need to have a reliable cell phone to keep in touch with my business.
I even tried calling my blackberry ( sitting next to me) from the landline phone on my desk, and it went to answer machine and did not ring.
I have to keep changing the network setting to manual to keep on Rogers, but I live on the border and when I move around near the border, I have to keep changing back to automatic so it will pick up calls.

  • Problem with Blackberry Pearl 8130

My girlfriend has the Pink Blackberry Pearl 8130 from Verizon Wireless. She has had the phone for about 4 months and occasionally we have noticed that when she recieves text messages or voicemails the phone will make the alert tone and you see the arrows recieving, once thats done the messages disappear from the phone. When you click on the inbox there is nothing there for text messages. We were just wondering if anyone else with this Blackberry Pearl from Verizon has had any problem like this?
    Thanks!

I guess you did say that her VM's are disappearing too. She's probably running out of memory. Try a hard reset (removing the battery). When you do that it should boost the memory a little bit. It's good to complete a hard reset as much as possible. I try to do it at least once a day.

Have NEVER had a problem with synchronizing my calendar - now I get a message

Hmmm...strange indeed...OK, then the next thing I can think of is for you to perform a complete start over with DTM:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.

  • Pearl 8130 will no longer sync with Outlook 2007 or Entourage 2008 Calendar via USB

I currently have the Pearl 8130 v4.5.0.77 running Desktop Manager v4.7 on my office computer (Windows XP) and Pocketmac on my home computer (iMac OS 10). I do not utilize the BES - all syncing is done via USB.
I previously used the earlier version of DM and had no issues syncing all information between the BB, iMac, and XP machines.  Now I can no longer sync any of my Calendar information - one-way or two-way - to or from the BB to either computer.  My, tasks, contacts/address book all sync without issue.
I've read through the various threads in this forum (and other online forums) and tried the various fixes with no success.  Any help is much appreciated.  The calendar sync is critical otherwise my Pearl could be cast to swine.

I had the same problem.  I found this answer in the Solution Center and it worked.  I found that after adding Facebook to my BB it had changed the default calendar.  This Resolution fixed it!
    Resolution 1
To resolve this issue, change the default calendar service book by completing the following steps:
From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Advanced Options > Default Services.
Change the value of the Calendar (CICAL) field to the desired calendar service book.
Save the changes and synchronize again.
    Resolution 2
Upgrade to BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0.97 or later.  For instructions, see KB03901.

    Hey dumpeal2,
    Welcome to the forums.
Try following the instructions here to backup and do a clean reload of your device software. http://bbry.lv/cKy9A0 if you get the same result then I would suggest contacting your service provider and have them escalate your issue to RIM.

  • Pearl 8130 Bluetooth stop working with GPS

Has anyone experienced a situation where your Bluetooth BlackBerry was paired with your automobile's GPS system and was working fine, then stopped one day and can't get it to pair up anymore?  We have an 8130 that was paired to the car's GPS system perfectly then suddenly stopped working one day.  After taking it to the car dealer and having them look at it they determined it was a problem with the phone.  They were able to pair up another phone to the car without any problems.  I took the phone and tried pairing it with another GPS system, that can pair up with another working BB, and was not able to get the phone/GPS to pair up either.  Has situations like that happened before?  What can be done about it, if anything?
    Thanks.

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Pearl 8130 Synchronization Problem

    1.  My Pearl 8130 has a funny (okay, odd, not funny) synchronization problem.  The address book synchronizes okay, but during the address book synchonization process, the progress window, says wait a moment, then the progress bar (thermometer) and the entire progress window just go poof! and stop.
    2.  There's no error message or anything which would indicate that it wasn't a successful synchronization aside from the fact that the window doesn't come up to say X Items Changed, Accept, Re-Synch, etc.
    3.  I've already removed and re-installed the software.  I've taken the phone to the local Sprint service center where the technician said that he had successfully removed and re-installed the address book data.  (Although he did go into the other room, so he might have been pulling my leg.)
    4.  Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Mine has a different problem - it will begin to synch the calendar, then i get an MS error message that the Desktop manager has stopped working.  no explanation.  i talked to BB support and the only fix was to take out and put back in my battery.  it workedfor two synchs and that's it.

  • Problem With Newly Downloaded Desktop Manager Multi-Language v.4.6.0 With Media Manager

I just updated my desktop manager software this afternoon with the newer version that's in my subject line. The backup/restore feature works fine, but when I try to open the media manager, it opens, says no device is connected (when it is), and then gives me a pop-up message saying that an error has occurred (doesn't say what error specifically), and that the program needs to be restarted. I have tried it numerous times, and it always gives the same error message. Any ideas?
FYI, I have a Blackberry Pearl 8130, and am on the Verizon network.

First download the latest USB BB drivers from the following link"
    Download Software
Perform the clean install of 4.5 without MM from here
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22

  • Sync problem with 2 computers

I have a very frustrating problem with my Blackberry.
I sync my BB with my desktop computer and my laptop.  Things happen smoothly and with no errors - but it is very difficult to get the same information on all three devices.
When I change an item (Task, Contact, Calendar, or Note) on computer A, the BB is updated with that information, as it should be.  Where the problem arises is when I subsequently sync with computer B.  At that point, the sync doesn't recognize that the information on the BB has changed, so it doesn't update on computer B.  Then if I change the same item on computer B, it overwrites the previous change on the BB, so I lose the first change that had gotten there from computer A.  After a while, computers A and B are very different in their data, and the BB is a random combination of the 2.
The only way I have found around this problem is go to the item (after the first sync above) in the BB, edit it, and save it.  At that point, computer B now recognizes that the item has changed on the BB, and it updates the item on computer B.
Since I make frequent changes on both computers, this whole process is a tremendous hassle.
There must be a flag in the BB that is set when an item is updated on the BB, but it doesn’t get set after a sync-driven change.  Hence the subsequent sync doesn’t know about the change, and treats the item’s data as old.
The thing of it is, I used a series of Treos for years, and never had this kind of problem.  This is the one area that makes me regret having switched mobile platforms – and it’s a big, daily regret.
I have updated the desktop software to the latest version (several times), without this behavior being affected.
    Here are my system specifics:
    Blackberry:
    Verizon World Edition
    Model 8830
    Firmware version V4.2.2.176
    Desktop manager version 4.6.0.12
    Computers:
    Windows XP
    Outlook 2003
    Help?
    Thanks!
    - Nate

I am having this same issue. I have spent hours searching forums for a solution. natehine, have you found any solution? anyone else have any ideas? I have a pearl 8130 through sprint and per their website I am using desktop manager 4.3. However, thinking DM 4.7 would fix the issue I upgraded and still had the same problem (so I have reverted back to 4.3). I can sync fine on one PC but once I try to sync changes to the other PC (doesn't matter which order) I they are not recognized. Any help to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  • DM for Mac device updates for Pearl 8130

    hello!
i discovered the DM for mac today when searching for ways to update the device software on my pearl 8130. i downloaded it and have had no trouble backing up or synching, but am supremely frustrated with the device update process.
i am currently running 4.3.0.97 and the core apps and system software are in the 4.5 range. when i select these updates and attempt to run them -- regardless of whether i choose to include system or third-party app backups in the process -- everything's cool until the DM says it's "Loading OS..."
my pearl reboots itself every time i get to this point, which causes a "DM cannot connect to your device. Reconnect and try again" message from the DM. i've taken out the battery, rebooted the DM -- nothing is working.
does anyone know why this auto-reboot is happening and what i can do about it? alternatively, does anyone know how i can download system updates WITHOUT DM, but still using a mac?
    thanks!

I had the same problem and gave up.  I did my updates using the Windows XP version of DM using Bootcamp on the mac to launch XP.  I tried XP via Parallels first but it seemed to have issues with XP seeing the 8130 via USB.  I didn't bother troubleshooting and went straight to Bootcamp and running the MAC as an XP only machine.
Hopefully with everything updated I can use the Mac DM alone but I'm having problems and starting to regret I didn't stick with Missing Sync until MAC DM is more mature.
