Problems with Personal Oracle Instal on WinME
Hi,
Can someone throw some light on this, please?
I am trying to install Personal Oracle on a machine running ME.
When I use Personal Oracle for '98, it stops with a message about the paths to Source and Destination of the software. I checked many times about the availability of the directories, but it does not go forward. I tried the JREW = ... in the COMPATIBILITY95 section of the WIN.INI without success.
When I try to install Personal Oracle for Win2K, it apparently installs the EE, and tries to configure the network. Here it asks for the name of the host. When the server and the client are to be on the same machine, what is the need for a network connection?
That aside, what is the correct version to install on a ME machine? Are there any work-arounds for these problems?

I am having a problem with Windows Fusion installed on a MacBook.
I am having a problem with Windows Fusion installed on a MacBook OS 10. When attempting to use a Browser, (either IE, or Chrome), under Windows Fusion, I cannot browse to ANY page except Gmail.com.
I checked all security settings, and found no problem. Neither browser will allow me to do ANYTHING other than go to Gmail.com!!!
I am not sure if I have some virus on my Windows side, because Google and Safari both work perfectly on my Apple side, just not when running Windows Fusion.
Is there some setting I am missing, or do you think I have malware/virus issues?? My Internet connection is DEFINITELY working fine - I can send, receive, open, and close all my email on Gmail only, and can navigate freely on Gmail, but cannot get to any other site even hyperlinked to Gmail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you've already tried my previous suggestions, it may be that something has tampered with the DNS settings in your Windows VM, which might bypass the settings your Mac uses. Assuming you're using Windows 8, these instructions explain how to check and change the DNS settings. There's also a link in those instructions listing a variety of suggested DNS settings. If you do try changing the settings, record what the settings currently are in case you want to return to them. -
Has anyone experience with personal oracle on a lone machine?
I keep changing configurations around trying to connect with personal oracle running on my own machine. Right now, EasyConfig doesnt like any of the service_names I give it and gives me ORA-12514. Please post or e-mail me. Thanks
According to the information on this page the required Aircard 580 card is NOT compatible with any version of the Mac OS. Which is really odd since the banner across the top of the page proclaims "wireless, mobile web access for your mac". Perhaps they intend for you to buy a compatible phone and use Bluetooth connectivity to allow the phone to act as a modem for your Mac.
The built-in wireless of your Mac does not allow you to connect directly to cellular networks like BlueMobility.
After some more digging... I found this page which supposedly lists the Mac compatible options. -
Which Forms version works with Personal Oracle 8i
Can any one let me know which version of Forms/Developer works with Personal Oracle 8i (8.1.7)? The OS that I have Personal Oracle 8i is Windows 2000. Also is the Forms/Developer version that goes with this available for download? If yes, where?

Aruna.you can use forms/reports developer 6i (for client/server and web) against 8.1.7 P.E. on windows 2000. I tested this configuration in the past and it worked fine. You can download the forms/reports developer 6i from OTN (from the forms download page).

Discoverer 3.1.x Install on NT with Personal Oracle 8i
Can Discoverer 3.1.x be installed on a Windows NT machine that already has Personal Oracle 8i (8.1.6) installed on it? If so, how?
The Discoverer Installer posts some contradictory error messages when I try to do this.
First, if I try to install Discoverer to a separate ORACLE_HOME, the Installer tells me that the Installer does not support multiple installations and that Discoverer must be installed in the same ORACLE_HOME as the existing Oracle8i.
But when I rerun the installation trying to use the existing Oracle8i ORACLE_HOME, the Installer tells me that this ORACLE_HOME directory is already being used for "Oracle 816 Production" and that "It cannot be used as an Oracle home for 'nt'".
This is an odd contradiction. IMHO, it seems that Discoverer and Personal Oracle 8i would be a rather natural pairing, and that Oracle Corp would be interesting in having these 2 products be able to co-exist on the same machine.
The Install.wri notes (July99) do indicate that Discoverer 3.1 cannot be installed on the same machine as Personal Oracle 8.0.3 but can be installed alongside 8.0.4. Also, in another posting (http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000117.html) in this Discussion Group, it would appear that Discoverer 3.1 can be installed with Oracle 8i, but how?
(As a footnote: I would definitely prefer to install Discoverer into a separate ORACLE_HOME from the Oracle server.)

There are two possible ways to deal with this issue:
1. Install Discoverer into the first (Default) Oracle_Home on your machine.
2. Install the RDBMS into another ORACLE_HOME.
Discoverer cannot be installed into a non Default Oracle_HOME.
Also...
In this scenario you can do the following.
In the Oracle Installer you write DEFAULT_HOME in the NAME field and the you enter a directory different from the one Oracle8i is installed in. In many cases this does the trick. But you can get into a scenario where you still gets the errors message. In this case you exit the installer, starts a Dos Prompt and enter regedit, to edit the registry. Here you
find the key
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\ALL_HOMES\DEFAULT_HOME. You change the value of this key to DEFAULT_HOME and then start the installation again.

Developer rel 6i connection problem to Personal Oracle 8i (8.1.6)

I have a very general problem regarding the connection to
personal oracle 8.1.6 database from developer 6i products.
I have oracle 8.0.5 client database portion and developer 2.1
installed on my WIN98 machine in as DEFAULT ORACLE HOME.
Then I installed Personal Oracle 8.1.6. in a separate directory
and separate ORACLE_HOME. I am able to connect from the SQL*PLUS
8.0 to the Personal Oracle 8.1.6
Then I installed D2K rel 6i in DEFAULT ORACLE_HOME as I was
informed that FORMS 6i should be installed in the DEFAULT ORACLE
HOME. Now when I try to connect to personal oracle 8.1.6 from
forms 6.0.8, the error message comes as the 'ORA-1034 ORACLE NOT
AVAILABLE '
I made sure that the directory in which the D2K 6i is installed
takes the first precedence in the PATH environment variable of
the AUTOEXEC.BAT
I made sure the listener for the personal oracle is working.
I seek your guidance.

Download times out after 3 hours or so when using a 256k ADSL line (23KB/sec). Can I get the same download via FTP? Or in smaller chunks?
Many thanks in advanceThe OCI drivers require a client-side DLL in order to work. I believe it also needs some of SQL*Net. The client-side DLL is available with the Oracle Client software distribution.
You need to install the Oracle Client software that matches the version of the JDBC drivers you are using on the machine where you are trying to make the connection (the client).
If you are using the ORacle 8.1.5 JDBC drivers, you need the ORacle 8.1.5 Client software (regardless of what version of the database you are connecting to). Check the Paths tab in your project properties to see what version of the drivers you are using. By default it is 8.1.5 with JDev 2 and 3.0.
If you want to use a different version of the JDBC drivers, make sure to see the online help for switching driver versions.

Intermittent problem with Personal Hotspot
Hello All
I think either my iPad 2 or my iPhone 4 is mental. Can anyone convince me otherwise?
For some months now I have been experiencing an intermittent problem with tethering my iPad 2 to my iPhone 4 Personal Hotspot.
Sometimes it works without a hitch (although I have to turn the Personal Hotspot on the phone off and on again to get iPad to 'see' it) and at others, like now, it shows me the message 'Unable to join the network 'iPhone'. It throws the message up so quickly that even though it 'sees' the phone in the list of networks, it behaves as though it can't actually be bothered to even try to connect.
I have tried reboots and restarts, 'forgetting' the network, changing passwords, sacrificing a chicken... all the usual stuff. But still when it gets in this kind of mood it stubbornly refuses to do anything. I have even taken it to the Apple store where, not surprisingly it worked first time and the assistant looked at me as though I was an idiot. It then proceeded not to work for a couple of days again as if punishing me. There is no problem with the general Wi-Fi connection as I have another phone (an Android) that I run as a Hotspot too. It has never once had a problem connecting to this or any other Wi-Fi connection..
Confusingly, and rather irritatingly, after a few days of this not-connecting lark it will have a few days of not having a problem connecting at all. I won't have changed any settings on either iPad or iPhone and so I have no way of figuring out why this is happening. This has been the same situation with all versions of iOS I have installed ever since buying the phone in April 2012, and the iPad in June 2012.
Please, is there anyone out in the ether that can suggest a solution to this? Or is one of my Apple products simply mad? I have given both devices a strong talking-to, but this hasn't sorted the problem either. Next, I think I might have to try sacrificing a goat.I have the same issues with my iPhone 5 (6.1.4). I do not have an answer for you, and perhaps my "workaround" will lead someone with more knowledge about these things to offer us more information.
When I turn on the Personal Hotspot and it does not show up as visible on my iPad or MacBook, or offers that ambiguous message about being unavle to join the network, I perform a few steps that almost always resolves it. I have to go through these steps twice sometimes. The order of operations seems to affect the outcome (at least it appears to me that it does)
Turn off WiFi on the client device (iPad, MacBook, Windows laptop, KindleFire, etc)
Turn off Personal Hotspot on iPhone
Turn off Bluetooth on iPhone
Turn off WiFi on iPhone
Then turn on Personal Hotspot and allow it to automatically start WiFi and Bluetooth.
Turn on the client WiFi services.
Connection successful!
As I said, I sometimes need to perform the steps ablve twice, but it eventually works. It is incredibly frustrating to go through these hoops to make the device perform. I do not know precisely when the problem began to occur, but I don't think it did not occur on my iPhone 4s with IOS5.
Any help from the Apple guys would be appreciated. I think it is a software issue, because the shutdown of services and restart seems to resolve the issue. I guess I might take a trip to the Aple Store to have them look at this behavior. -

I have problem to install ExtendScript ToolKit 2. I had installed ExtendScript ToolKit 2 and removed it with the Uninstaller. Now I want to reinstall it but it doesn't work. The setup says there is a conflict with the already installed ExtendScript ToolKit 2, but I have removed it.
What can I do?
I have searched in the registry about keys with the ExtendScript ToolKit 2 and removed it, but no success. I have searched in the file system for ExtendScript ToolKit 2 and removed all, no success.
How can I force the installation?

HansI have just had exactly the same problem and I ended up telephoning Adobe support - officially free products such as the ExtendScript Toolkit 2 do not get telephone support.
The person I spoke to at Adobe suggested I run the CS3Clean utility, and that worked for me. See http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402767
BE SURE TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN FULL FIRST
In my case I only needed to run level 1 in the utility. Bit of a pain though to have to uninstall everything and re-install. -
Problem with starting Oracle HTTP Server

Different Problem with Unable to Install 3.0
Running 2.2.1 with no problems ever. Was able to do minor upgrades without problems.
I have installed 34 applications including some that use a great amount of space (Oxford Complete International Dictionary, several Skyscape medical books, Lexi-Comp medical drug book....)
Backup can be slow when I sync.
Last night, I installed 3.0; after 2 hours of backing up, as per on screen dialogue box, the backuo was 2/3 done when I went to sleep. This morning it is stuck at the same point, about 2/3 of progress bar unchanged...
